Name: Falxath (FAL-xath)
Colour: Green - #006E24
Hatchling Length: 6’7”
Hatchling Height: 2’2”
Hatchling Appearance: Falxath is a rather large green, her chest is deep and her wings are long and pointed. She has good endurance for one of her colour and mediocre speed and maneuverability in general flight, but something about the slightly odd shape of her wings and the general form of her body make her nigh on unbeatable in a straight dive. She will need to ease her rider into the experience of her stoops, if she doesn’t then the g-force might just make them pass out.

Personality: The full force of Falxath’s attention is… it’s a lot. Her gaze is piercing to begin with and add to that her intense mental aura and it can add up to an intimidating presence to more timid characters. She’s not aggressive but she’s definitely assertive, quick to make her opinions known on any subject and slow to back down from a challenge. Despite her sharp appearance and rather forceful presence however Falxath is actually a very even-tempered dragon, almost nothing ruffles her feathers be it insult or aggression.

Falxath is a highly focused dragon, she prefers to complete one task nice and neatly before moving onto the next where possible and works best under these conditions. She’s a hard worker too and, if there’s a lot to get done on what she’s concentrating on, her rider may have to remind her about things like food and sleep. She’s also a very cooperative dragon and will seek to foster the same spirit among her clutchmates and beyond, when everyone works together in the niche they excel at most the world moves forward.

Mind Voice:

Why me?

Inspiration: Falxath is inspired by the peregrine falcon. She is named for the latin word falx, which is related to falco (falcon) and refers to the silhouette of the falcon's long, pointed wings in flight.

Maybe I wasn't cut out for this...
Turn 183 - Month 9
Falxath 3 months old

Lianly stood on the lake edge, watching her dragon splash in the water. The temperature was dropping already with the turning of the seasons, the young woman already wearing a thick jacket most days. Fort mountains were much colder then tropical Narat and Lianly wasn't sure if she would adjust any time soon, let alone get in the chilled water with Falxath for some months.

Which brought them to why they were here. The pair had not been preforming very well in their lessons for weeks, not even average or passing which would have been fine but badly. Their last lesson on swimming had not looked good. While all the other dragons had seemed happy to swim, Falxath had been hesitant to get in the water at first. Since then Lianly had taken to turning bath time to double as short swim lessons, despite the green's insistence that she didn't need them. While it was true the young dragon was not a bad swimmer, they needed to show they were putting in effort and working hard for the Weyrling Master.

Bath time over, Falxath waded out of the water to shake off and present herself to be toweled dry. You're upset... Falxath's voice was quiet in her mind, not quiet understanding why her partner was upset. She wasn't hurt and no one had done or said anything. "I'm just... really tired..." Lianly said carefully. It was not a lie, but it was a mental fatigue rather then physical.

You should rest then The growing green was now big enough to be forceful, but the woman took no urging to be guided back to the barracks. The dragon made herself comfortable in her wallow while Lianly dropped onto her bunk but didn't lay down. It was too late in the day to take a nap, and she wasn't sleepy. Falxath fidgeted, worried but not distressed.

You are still upset. The green's eyes were a deep blue but speck of yellow swirled slowly. Lianly took a big breath to try calming herself. If Falxath got upset then the others would pick up on it, and if they noticed the Weyrlingmaster would deffinately find out. It wasn't a big deal, it was her own problem to deal with.

What is wrong? she finally asked. Lianly hesitated, but there was no reason to keep it to herself. Nothing would change unless she got it off her chest, but she rather not speak out loud should the others hear her worries.

The woman had never expected stand out, nor had she wanted to. She was an apprentice all over again learning a new craft, but Lianly would never have called herself very smart which made learning hard. Average was fine, average was normally acceptable, but they were failing, or would be if she hadn't been pushing so hard to keep up. She wanted to be better, she wanted to do well! Not just for her but for her dragon, whom she worried had stunted growth due to her negligence. She had been a clear head taller then her sisters in the beginning but now had fallen in line with her sisters who had grown well. She tried, and tried, and it was just never enough and it didn't seem fair.

Lianly felt like such a failiur.

No Falxath shifted and opened a wing, inviting her rider to cuddle against her. Facing the wall the large green body would block the view of others, giving her some privacy. Now blanketed by the dark wing Kalec crawled under to join the huddle, the blue whistling softly in his way to try and cheer his master up. You try so hard because you care, and the others know it. You will know what to do when things get though, because they have never had to fight for it. It will get better, I am still growing and I love you. You have never hurt me, I love you.

Tears fell silently down her face, she felt so silly. It had only been 3 months, they still had another year of Weyrlinghood and another year after that of hands on training in a wing before being a full Rider. It was a long way still to go and she was breaking down already. She hoped Falxath was right. She couldn't let the Ista riders down who saw something in her and took a chance on her. Couldn't let her sister back in Narat know she wasn't doing well. Couldn't let Falxath down, K'lir and Ostarath that helped her so often, nor the rest of the class. Not the Weyr, or all of Pern. She was a dragonrider, or would be proper one one day.

Tired of mind and drained by her tears, lulled by her firelizard and warmed by her dragon, Lianly slowly drifted into a quiet sleep.

Tomorrow would be a new day
