It's not always easy to watch a Hatching. The young hatch out of their shells, cause commotion, and wander about the hot sands looking for Theirs. It's not always easy seeing what's going on-- you watch one pair Impress only to miss another dragon or two hatch and find Theirs in the same span of time. Sometimes dragons find their quickly--while others take their own sweet time.

Sometime between the first egg hatching, and the last, there were at least two eggs that spilled two dragons--twins!

Zenobiath's has a pair of twins in her own clutch (blue Macuith & green Xochith) and with Aresoth's own genetics mixed in, the two lucked out with two eggs hiding two little secrets within.

2 Green Haflingers
1 Green American Paint
1 Blue American Paint

If you're interested in trying to win one of the four, then this is the contest for you!

[Please note, it's possible there is another set of twins -- we may give out one more as NPCs upon graduation, or even have more than the two sets of winners, here. It's undecided at this point.]

Begins: Now
Ends: Monday, January 20 @ 9am Pacific Time -- if we feel we need to push it back due to lack of time for participants, we will extend it one ore week but WILL open up the Feast Thread to get that going! :3

The Contest & Rules

This is essentially going to be a Candidate & Dragon Profile contest. We're basically asking you to either create an appropriate Candidate, use one that WAS signed up in the Candidate Thread as Swappable and didn't Impress, or to create someone brand new.

While you do NOT get to choose what horse breeds we as a shop plan on using for these twins (these are pre-determined so we can color them up quickly) -- you do get to apply for them.

You may apply for one of each of them, but you cannot use the same Candidate for all four. You'll need to create or use separate Candidates for each entry. You also have no say on who could be playing the twin.

Just because one person applies for one of the twins, doesn't mean that they will be guaranteed a win. If we don't care for the Candidate or the dragon in question--or if we feel the dragon or Candidate would need too many changes to validate a win--then we will simply NPC the twin and try to home them down the road.

Past Hatchling Activity Will Be Considered! That said, we understand RL can consume individuals or life circumstances have kept people from being active in EoP. Just because you haven't had the time to write your old hatchling(s) doesn't mean you won't win-- it just means if you your entry is going to have to be strong, and hopefully, you won't cut out once you win.

If you're new to the shop, we won't hold activity against you, either.

We just hate to see clutches with a majority of inactive shop goers, which is why we're big about trying to press activity. We give out all sorts of dragons and flits and art and promise we will do so again--we just like our hatchlings to be played--it can really change the dynamic of the clutch, and is just more shop fun. :3

You may enter if you Impressed. Since we did away with the old rules, don't let Impression stop you from trying your luck again.

You may enter if you're staff. Staff are players too. As I (Uta) have Impressed Vardoth I will NOT be entering so I can judge this bad boy. Vardoth is plenty of dragon for me. <3

You may edit your entry until close. But know we likely will read them as we get them so I wouldn't deviate too much.

No crying about this contest or who wins it. Treat this with the same rules of any other Hatching.

Winners Must Go Through QC Just because you win the dragon/rider doesn't mean they're ready to go. After winners are announced, please post them in the Approval Thread so Cheri and I can QC them as needed. Don't count on the winning entry being the final draft--and some changes may well be extensive. Also, if we start the QC process and you refuse to complete them or alter them to get through approval in a timely fashion (more than 30 days), then you will forfeit the pet to be part of the Theme/Clutch and we will roll a new winner. Art will not be delivered unless the pet is QC'd and approved! If you do take too long, you will still get a pet, but it will not be part of the Hatching or Theme.

We won't be held hostage in QC and have other, more active players miss out on the win.

Your characters were not the first to Impress, nor the last. They were soundly somewhere in the middle. Try to avoid mentioning WHEN they hatched/Impressed. Just know they hatched.../gestures

Standidates are OK but they need to have a reason to be at the Hatching and physically present near the Sands. Remember, these things are by invite only (unless you're living at the Weyr/happen to be there for some reason when one goes on)

You will get 3 stages of art -- Hatchling, Weyrling, and Adult. The hatchling art will be delivered upon completion of your approved character through QC. They'll be dropped together though so might be a little later depending on timing--but we will try to get the babies colored up quickly!

You get no say on appearance. None. Colorists will treat these babies the same they would any Hatching derg.

Lastly, please fill out everything. And I mean everything. Don't skip namedays. Don't skip part you didn't think about.

Pro Tips from Past Contests
Don't try to be the edgiest person in the room and play up trauma or complicated characters unless you're going to do it well, and have it make sense! The more complex they are (including the dragon) the more Cheri and I are likely to find flaws or reasons it wouldn't work. Sometimes simple is better overall!

Don't try to break the dragons. Yes, we've given dragons some in-depth character, and yes, we've made some that toe the line in personality -- but they are ultimately Pern dragons. They ALL have empathy. They ALL must abide a Queen's commands. They would NEVER hurt another person after Impressing (though they might try to scare them with snarling or growling). Don't give them special powers or some way to separate them as special. Keep them Pernese.

While your dragons name needs to tie into the horse theme, we do ask to avoid taking names from gods/goddesses directly. You can derive a name from them i.e. Ares turned into Aresoth. -- Allowed. Ares into Aresth (with you claiming he's based off the god Ares) would be no. If you simply used a Pern Name Generator or came up with Aresth because you liked how it sounded and it had no association, also likely ok. If you're not sure about a name, ask Uta or Cheri. Names might well need to be tweaked in QC otherwise.

Remember, Candidates know what they're signing up to. If they're too feral or fight the system, they'll be kicked out and sent back to their home. Make sure your characters being in a Weyr and Impressing makes sense.

Let's Paint!

Name: Rahmsii [Accepted profile]
Age: 20
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Non-commital hand gesture
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft:Leathercrafter
Physical Description: Rahmsii is a short squat person, but one full of wiry strength. He stands around 5’2, easily short enough to be an elbowrest to most of his friends. At a first glance one might think there’s nothing but softness under his cloak. His shoulders are broad, his limbs thick from a life of physical work. Rahmsii quite enjoys carrying something heavy over his shoulder and wagging his brows at someone who might not believe he’s not capable of doing so.

Rahmsii has an apronfold of soft belly. Legs and thighs with more softness than muscle making him look pearshaped. He’s quite pale despite being out in the sun so much. Blue veiny lines seen in the soft padding off his arms. There are quite a few scars on him. Mostly on his hands from his crafr. He has knuckles full of rings, pounded from dull mined metal. Places on his knuckles are covered in pink and white scars where has buried his teeth in as a child, a habit he used to indulge in while aggravated or overstimulated. His face is square, his chin soft with a double shadowing under it.

His cheeks having a dark, patchy shadow growing in that he prefers to keep just barely enough stubble to cover his face. Rahmsii’s cheeks are round and a bit red, making him smile like a waxing moon. Slowly growing and lighting up when he finds reasons to laugh. His smile is full of crooked teeth, hidden by thick full lips, some spun in their places others a bit too sharp. Rahmsii daintily laughs behind his hand, his smile is one of the only things he’s self conscious of.

Long dark hair squarely framing his face. Growing in thick and usually getting tucked behind his ears. Occasionally he’ll twist beads or cloth into it if he feels the need to look more presentable than usual. Rahmsii is seldom seen without his earring, a small jewel studded through his left ear. He wears dark colors usually, he feels naked without a fur around his shoulder to bury his face into while he’s thinking.

Personality: Rahmsii has a stern expression. His eyes sharp, brow furrowed, lips almost always pursed. It’s offputting and unattractive, and hardly indicative as to what's going on inside his thick skull. Usually he is much brighter spirits than he lets on. Surely less judgmental than he looks, as well. He leans into conversations that he may not be welcome in, giving his two cents anyway. Thinking sometimes he is more welcome than he is. Rahmsii takes nudges to budge out occasionally as a challenge, and finds it not worth to be hurt over if someone gets cross about it.

You are likely to find Rahmsii laughing, even when alone he’ can still be in fine spirits. He keeps to himself generally, finding comfort in the quiet din of his hobbies and his work. Rahmsii is a bit hard to understand sometimes. He can be easily overwhelmed needing a few moments to collect himself and his thoughts. Other times savagely working his teeth into his knuckles to exert needless anxiety or frustration, something he has (mostly) grown out of. It appears in moments of extreme duress. For as far as bad habits go, it’s probably not the worse he could have picked up.

At what his worst, he was be prone to flying off the handle letting his anxiety and temper get away from him. Its only ever directed only on himself, never wanting others in his crosshairs. His long hair pulled - lip bitten to bleed, thoughts whirling too quickly now and again. It has become much better over time! A life with understanding friendships, and especially learning to be patient with himself helps him think far more clearly in times of distress.

To work his way through things means affording himself patience and understanding that not everyone can handle things easily, and that its okay to be working on one’s self. This has grown to extend to others, he’s particularly good at picking up when someone’s being far too hard on themselves. Rahmsii is at his best when he keeps busy, his mind on his next project, working on a skill. He flourishes when his routine is predictable. Learning leather crafting has become quite a blessing.

Routine of crafting, good people, and a cozy home at the Weyr has made him more able to think through his anxieties. His support system gives him desire to think his way through what’s bothering him and how to move all that anxious anxiety into his crafting projects. Throughout upheavals in his life he’s marked them by making something beautiful. A fine leather-backed journal when he became searched, an intricate canine collar while he’s dealt with a difficult ‘family’; seeing something lovely in a time of stress helps him keep his nerve. It feels like he spent his times of hardship doing something constructive as well, rather than simply suffering his way through it.

He keeps a collection of finely cleaned bones and hides. Some are cast off from the leather and carcasses he’s used to working with. Some of them are from simply scavenging things from out in nature. Rahmsii considers them to be priceless treasures of his and keeps them hidden away with the most important of his things. Perhaps if he trusts someone an awful lot, he’ll show them the small skulls and bones he’s come to cover so preciously.
Positive Trait List Patient, Empathetic, Diligent
Negative Trait List Paranoid, Obsessive, Temperamental
History: From a young age Rahmsii knew his father was Renivar, a wealthy lord holder. He was never one of Renivar’s brood officially, born not to the man’s wife, but instead to Safina who he would see often and in secret. That was until Rahmsii was born one winter, proof of that scandalous union (heirs after all!), and turned cold on Safina in an instant. If Safina blamed her son of this, she never shown this. Her gentle guidance giving Rahmsii enough of a sense of compassion to keep from losing himself to his temper.

Rahmsii grew up working hard to keep his little family fed. His mother, who ailed (then later passed) of a wasting sickness. Scratching the land to grow food, to care for their pair of grazing cervine. He was no stranger to hunting - doing his best to keep anything on the table, and clumsily learned how to make basic leather goods. He is particularly skilled at making collars, his childhood canine Red having quite a few. It was enough to keep them from starving, as if Renivar cared about such a thing. If they were all to die as a heap of bones, he wouldn’t have any more gossip of his infidelity to his ‘strong’ marriage.

With the loss of Safina, he grew rather close to a wherhandler named Tikva. Rahmsii found it easy to laugh in presence no matter the nettle in his heart from loss. Free from that irritating, sympathetic ( or judgemental, depending on who it was) look that most others in the camp gave him. Tikva’s hulking bronze wher never seemed to mind that Rahmsii cooed to them like a canine pup, cradling their great head in his lap. It didn’t feel so lonely losing someone, when there was another shoulder to lean on.

The circumstances of Rahmsii’s search are a bit… scandalous. Told with a laugh when he’s had enough fine wine, and there’s someone to laugh with. Renivar’s only child, his heir to the camp, fell ill of the same sickness that stole Rahmsii’s mother. Between heir and lineage politics, and uneasy ties that revolved around greed and bloodlines Renivar sought (finally) to to acknowledge he had another child.

Acting as though he never had disowned Rahmsii and his mother in the first place, and what a beautiful thing family was! That Rahmsii should be heir to secure the financial future and Renivar's bloodline as lord holder.

Perhaps it was the anger he felt for Safina who was always so quietly brokenhearted and who had gone without for so long. Or perhaps it was their cloyingly sweet tone his "father" took. Perhaps it was Rahmsii being put on the spot in front of a small audience (as thought to make it so he couldn’t refuse). There were a thousand ways to deal with it, and Rahmsii to throw a punch and make a fool out of all of them! Refusing, wiping blood from his stinging knuckles, and shrieking about how Renivar ought to have just drown him like an unwanted kitten as a child - than allow him to live to try and make him look a fool... certainly was one of those choices.

Even though the riders were there on business rather than search, Rahmsii must have made enough of an impression on them to be extended the choice of weyrlife. It led the easiest out, putting the small-town politics of the cothold far behind him. If they truly found Rahmsii worth of impression and not just a spectacle, its a mystery to Rahmsii. He did his best to keep his head down, and be deserving as a candidate. He paid attention to lessons and candidate masters, and did very little to rock the boat.

He stood for a few clutches, impressing to a thoughtful little blue dragon. That had burst from their shell - who was irritated beyond all words. Really Rahmsii! How could you be so thoughtless. If you simply had your wits about you, my brothers claws would have never found you. But how could you have all your wits without your Tobiath.. yes, that must be so!

Rahmsii was awash with such warmth. Irritation gentling to the softest chiding. You must keep yourself safe for me. The blue leaned up on hind paws to get a better look. His wedged head ever so gently butting their bonded. Emotions spilled out the man, quietly streaking down his face. Concern and love knitting over the empty places in his heart.

Other: Rahmsii has a brown firelizard named Blood and a green named Bimble.

DRAGON
Name: Tobiath
Origin of Name: Tobiano is the most common spotting pattern on American Paint Horses, characterized by rounded markings with white legs and white across the back between the withers and the dock of the tail, usually arranged in a roughly vertical pattern and more white than dark, with the head usually dark and with markings like that of a normal horse.
Color: Blue
Inspiration: Around 500 A.D., several tribes brought spotted Oriental horses from Eurasia to Spain, where they were bred with the native horse stock. The breed began to thrive and resemble what is now known as standard Paint Horse markings. When Spanish conquistadors came to the United States, they brought these horses along, which are believed to be the ancestors of the modern American Paint Horse. The American Paint Horse is known for its amiability and pleasant manner.

PersonalityTobiath has a thirst for knowledge. Whether its small gossip, or how glassblowers are making a new sort of piece - a new ballad- he watches carefully to commit the fact to memory. There’s no trace of shyness to him, he’s never afraid to ask questions and learn more. When there’s much to observe and comment on, he is most in his element! He craves enrichment and will prove to be quite a handful for his rider if he gets too bored. Tobiath picks up on secrets and has a problem determining which of them ought to stay private. He may be seen as untrustworthy or perhaps as an eavesdropper, especially if this unfortunate knack of his goes on without restraint.

This dragon is intelligent, but perhaps lacking common sense. When it comes to using large words and looking self-important he has it in spades. He enjoys a conversation of wits. He enjoys witty conversations, even in mock debates. He doesn’t become emotionally charged in such instances, and finds no reason to hold a grudge if he was on the “losing” side. He’s not afraid to mince words with someone who outranks him, and has very little care for that he is ‘simply’ a chromatic dragon.

Drumming up new ideas is when he's at his most eloquent, speaking in rich and fascinated tones. He will stay up late into the night musing over such things even so far as waking his rider with new ideas (and usually having a pillow thrown at him, as its such a common occurrence).

Tobiath can accidentally come off as an enormous snob. He doesn’t understand how someone can not simply know all the things he does. When he explains something, it's usually with a scoff, or an oversimplification as though speaking to a child. He might have the tendency to annoy his clutch mates with his rather know it all attitude. He generally has no idea why someone might be angry with him when this happens.

This dragon has very little common sense and needs a tremendous amount of patience when it comes to being taught something he doesn’t have the knack for learning. Anything that’s more instinctual - such as certain maneuvers when flying will leave him stumped. He will have a rather hard time swallowing his pride when it comes to these things.

Emotionally, he cares very deeply for those who earn his affection. Those he finds fascinating or with vibrant personalities he holds closest in his hearts. He has incredible affection for his family, in particular his parents. Tobiath may even divert to their wisdom in times where he does not trust his own. He will always be rather close to them. Tobiath isn’t one whose are profound flirt or heartbreaker, instead he will be incredibly romantic to the singular dragon of his choosing regardless of what color their hide has.

Size: 25’
Physical Attributes: Tobiath is a gaunt looking dragon. He will always be a dragon that you can just about see every rib through their hide. He isn’t one for over-indulgence when it comes to his prey. Instead he needs reminded to pull himself from his ideas and to have a decent meal. His haunches are boney, the peaks of hide above need particular attention paid to them when oiling.

His wings are oversized for his thin frame, fluttering and ostentatious. While young he needs to keep his wits about them so he isn’t to get his claws caught. His headknobs are long, sweeping backwards at an arch, more akin to horns on a caprene.

Additional Notes: Tobiath doesn’t have much confidence when it comes to chasing. Even if theres someone who catches his eye - he needs much convincing to take to the air in Flight! Due to Tobiath’s smaller stature, and not being the most physically adept, he does have a smaller and cooler flame. He'll need to work hard to compensate for it. He’s more likely to forgo an injury when he’s focused during threadfall and finds being fussed over by healer silly.

Why Me: Oh darling Rahmsii, Tobiath thought long and hard in his shell about which candidate to impress, and his hearts turned towards you. There is many heavy, panicked thoughts that flutter through Rahmsii’s mind that Tobiath has a gentle way of helping him wade through. While some may be irritated with the blue’s logic driven ways, its used for a higher purpose of helping Rahmsii refocus himself when too carried away. Gentle, logical reminders and soothing words about how things truly are rather than the caricature that his rider anxiety paints can be as good a balm as any.Tobiath on the other claw, is a creature who needs the gentle care of another. He may have not considered this benefit while in the shell. Without their careful attention he may do things such as skip meals, or forgo seeing a healer for an injury or postponing a much needed oiling. Rahmsii is at his best when bust and caring for others - thus caring for himself by extension.

Would you be willing to change the color to match a twin? i.e. If you tried for the green but we needed a blue? Or vice-versa? No

Haflingers Ahoy!

Existing Standidate - I've copy-pasted her over, but existing! 1 noted alterations (she's cut her hair, lmao)
Name: Niika
Age: 29
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice Healer
Physical Description: Niika is not delicate in any definition of the word. While not considered tall, her broad shoulders and strong build give her the impression of being larger than she is in presence. She has almost golden red hair that once was worn in a characteristic braid but has since been cut shoulder length and dark blue eyes that almost look black unless in the right lighting. She has several scars from overly eager dragonets.
Personality: Niika may know more about you than you do about her - she is a quiet individual who is easy to miss unless she wants your attention and more often than not...she doesn’t want it. She may not be a shrinking violet, but she spends more time taking everything in than she does trying to stand out. Niika is very pointed with her observations and when she shares them, they are worth being listened to. These can be strong opinions about the things she sees, or saying things that polite company would bypass. But not all opinions make their way out of her mouth. Her filter is strong, but only as long as she herself decides it needs to be - nothing she says is by accident.

However, Niika struggles to think very highly of herself, quick to find the things that are wrong with herself through some lense she has guessed other people look at her through. Clearly there is some gaping flaw she has she just can’t find to fix to be so unwanted in her life, or so she sees it. This same low self-esteem also makes her prone to envy other people for the things they have that she wishes she could have for herself. Why can’t she have it too?

That said, she is the kind to suffer through her sadnesses after simple glimmers of hope - even if her heart is trampled all over she is capable of picking up the (envious and grudging) pieces to try and move forward - even if she has to climb over a large pile of fear and sadness to move on. While she may take it all with her, she is at least still moving forward - always.
Positive Trait List Reserved, Observant, Persistent
Negative Trait List Quiet, Low Self-Esteem, Envious
History: Niika was born in High Reaches Weyr to a couple who would put their daughter into the creche and leave her to be raised like many children - under the feet of everybody else. Life was mostly uneventful - the same scraped knees as any kid, and eventually the same candidate chores as any other.

However, like many candidates, no dragon would come to her. After years of waiting - and hoping - she would move out of the barracks and have to find another niche for herself. At first, this was in the kitchens. However, over the last few turns she has found something she treasures more highly in the world than her broken dreams - and is leaving the Weyr she spent her life in to find a better way to serve it. While perhaps older than those she will be learning with, she has made the choice to become a healer.

[[Added in for potential impression!]] While attending the most recent hatching at High Reaches as the guest of the Weyrlingmaster Assistant, A'zota, and trying to assist Greenrider Alosha in managing what eggs were hatching what color she all but missed the little green amongst all of the others who were hatching in eagerness to go find theirs.

She all but missed her deviation from her sister to approach the stands, gently pushing through several candidates with occasional pause to nose a hand and offer a sweet thought here or there. And the little green noticed the lack of attention too - You waited all this time, and now you're not even looking for me? There was a tinge of despair in the voice but she only had to ask once to draw Niika's undivided attention.

My Niika, I know you will never break the hearts of your Nibbioth....so please....don't leave me alone down here.

She'd never.
Other: Anything else you want to add?

DRAGON
Name: Nibbioth
Origin of Name: All Haflingers today trace their lineage through one of seven stallion lines to Folie, the foundation stallion of the breed. The N-line was founded in 1920 and has produced the most stallions and has presence in all Haflinger breeding countries. The stallion who headed the N-line, Nibbio, is Nibbioth's name sake.
Color: Green
Inspiration: The Haflinger is a breed of horse developed in Austria and northern Italy (namely Hafling) during the late 19th century. Haflinger horses are relatively small, are always chestnut with flaxen mane and tail, have distinctive gaits described as energetic but smooth, and are well-muscled yet elegant. The breed traces its ancestry to the Middle Ages; several theories for its origin exist. Haflingers, developed for use in mountainous terrain, are known for their hardiness. The foundation sire, 249 Folie, was born in 1874; by 1904, the first breeders' cooperative was formed. All Haflingers can trace their lineage back to Folie through one of seven bloodlines. World Wars I and II, as well as the Great Depression, had a detrimental effect on the breed, and lower-quality animals were used at times to save the breed from extinction. During World War II, breeders focused on horses that were shorter and more draft-like, favored by the military for use as packhorses. The emphasis after the war shifted toward animals of increased refinement and height.

In the postwar era, the Haflinger was indiscriminately crossed with other breeds and some observers feared the breed was in renewed danger of extinction. However, starting in 1946, breeders focused on producing purebred Haflingers and a closed stud book was created. Interest in the breed increased in other countries, and between 1950 and 1974, the population grew, even while the overall European horse population decreased. Population numbers continued to increase steadily, and as of 2005, almost 250,000 Haflingers existed worldwide.

Haflingers have many uses, including light draft, harness work, and various under-saddle disciplines such as endurance riding, dressage, equestrian vaulting, and therapeutic riding. They are also still used by the Austrian and German armies for work in rough terrain. The World Haflinger Federation, the international governing body that controls breed standards for the Haflinger, is made up of a confederation of 22 national registries, and helps set breeding objectives, guidelines, and rules for its member organizations.

Haflingers are one of the most tolerant horse breeds in the equine world today. They are known to be extremely quiet, gentle, and willing to learn. It is a breed that will support a beginning rider or listen to the commands of someone with expertise with relative ease. They are outgoing, extremely friendly, but they are also very sensitive. Their high intelligence can make them stubborn, prone to teach themselves bad habits and unwilling to change their mind easily if they've decided they are in the right or don't trust who they are learning from. They also want to form deep bonds with their handlers and if not taught to respect personal space early will take any attempt at enforcing it later as rejection. Once they decide they are done with someone, a Haflinger will buck, kick, and even bite to remove someone they feel are mishandling them.

Personality Nibbioth's intelligence will be something many who work with her will note early on - she is quick to learn new skills and retains them well. Whether it is proper flappies technique or the Basic Ground drills, she'll completely sink her teeth in and be ready to make it part of what she lives and breaths - and she's happy to help her siblings too! And that friend over there! And the Weyrwoman's dragon, hello Great-Gramma Eveleth!!! However, not all new things this outgoing girl learns will be what she should know and if not gently redirected from it early on, there will be no stopping her - the bronzes and browns are getting special lessons? Well she wants them too! What do you mean she'll never lead a wing or catch a queen and doesn't need them? Well why shouldn't she get to know? Without a gold sister she may be late to discover those lessons as well, but... it is best she never find out about such things in the first place. Once things are learned, they are never forgotten.

Handle this smart green gently, as once she digs her feet in, she won't be pulling them up even if you use a sledgehammer to try and get them out.Any she finds particularly unpleasant will find the friendly and sweet green do a turn on a mark - she will snap her jaws at other dragons, false-swipe to keep them away, and will absolutely become a wrench in the gears of someone she has decided she doesn't want to work with. Looking down your nose at Nibbioth? Reject her friendship that she is so desperate to give? She is a sensitive green and will react accordingly. Even if forced to back down, she will hold a grudge for a long time.

Fortunately, Nibbioth is usually a congenial green with a large amount of patience and her stubborn ire will not be earned quickly. She will be happy to work with any of her siblings and in fact will usually prefer following their lead. Nibbioth has no delusions of grandeur - she's a green and has no problem with that.

Positive: Intelligent, Outgoing, Patient, Congenial
Negative: Stubborn, Sensitive, Aggressive, Grudging

Size: 23'

Physical Attributes: While not the smallest of greens, Nibbioth is stocky for her size, with thick, strong legs and smaller than average, but strong, wings.

Additional Notes: While she will never be considered the fastest or the strongest of her green sisters, Nibbioth's dexterity will shine in manuevering through rough terrain - both on foot and wing.

Chasing Nibbioth will be a task that heartbreakers may want to avoid - she will fall in love with every dragon who catches her and unless she is let down gently she will hold a grudge for being, as she sees it, spurned. That said, she does not have a preference for either male or female dragons and will happily fall into the arms of either.

Why Me: While many of the candidates may have been good enough for what Nibbioth needed, none of them were quite as good as Niika - a young woman who still hoped to be needed by a baby dragon. Niika knows what it is like to be jealous over feeling unwanted and hopefully will be able to teach Nibbioth a thing or two about handling such feelings and her more reserved and off to the side ways will hopefully keep Nibbioth out of other's personal bubbles. Nibbioth, on the other hand, can trust Niika entirely with her own need to be loved unconditionally and her outgoing ways will hopefully help the young woman make so many of the friends she's been lacking out of jealousy! If both get wound up, however, there will be trouble and Niika may have to learn to manage her feelings a little better to keep Nibbioth in line. Between Niika's keen observation and Nibbioth's intelligence, there is nothing they can't do!

Haflingers Ahoy!

Name: Shiammi
Age: 18
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Who knows? Not Shiammi!
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Healer; Apprentice
Physical Description: A slender, tall, waif of a girl with bright blue eyes and pale blonde hair, made brighter by the dark umber of her skin. Ribbons and bright beads are often twinned through the thick braids she keeps her hair in during chores and lessons. Her wardrobe shifts based on her activities and the only constant is a scarf from her father.
Personality: Sweetfaced Shiammi with her mother's soft eyes and her father's bright hair. Sunshine condensed into mortal form is a most accurate assessment of Shiammi. If her voice is raised it's in excitement, in frustration often with those around her that are more willing to fight than talk but never in anger. Anger causes more problems than solutions, mountains out of things that shouldn't be mountains. Anger hurts when a tongue should soothe. And so too Shiammi's tongue is always wagging with both balm and questions. 'Why why why' an endless cascade of innocent curiosity and genuine wonder. The questions are never intentionally malicious, accidentally no doubt as she always speaks before thinking but never intentionally made to hurt. Apologies for hurt feelings are as quick to leave Shiammi’s mouth as the original offending question. It just doesn’t do to hurt someone.

And why should she hurt people intentionally? Why break people apart when it's much more satisfying to build them up. Building them up with kind words and laughter is much easier than trying to stop the big hurts that she can't control or worse to cause more hurts to those around her. Too many siblings, adopted or otherwise and cousins have taught Shiammi the value of rolling with the punches, of maintaining her kindness even in the face of savagery. The world hurts and she can't do anything about that but she can offer a softer place for others to turn to. If she wants for anything, no one is likely to know. Shiammi demands nothing from life beyond the ability to help others. Wanting things is, after all, what causes most disagreements in the first place.
Positive Trait List Cheerful, Curious, Soft
Negative Trait List Acquiescent, Chatterbox, Soft-hearted
History: A weyrbrat through and through, Shiammi’s parents were riders at Western. A green and blue pair that fell together and apart so easily and constantly that Shiammi learned to count the early turns of her life by the presence and absence of her parents. There were no disagreements that Shiammi saw, simply Civosse and Taseya’s attentions turning to different things until they swung back to each other. A perfectly reasonable order to Shiammi’s little world. That was until she was finally sent among the crèche when her demands on their time grew to be too much. The loneliness in the shift was not a loneliness of being alone but rather of being one of so many running underfoot. Thus began Shiammi’s quest to ease whatever little heartaches she could in an effort to soothe her own.

Life among the other weyrbrats passed as normal, siblings born from Civosse and Taseya’s joint and separate flings popping in among Shiammi’s friends as the turns tumbled on. Familiar but not quite but no less beloved by Shiammi all the same as she passed from weyrbrat to apprentice healer as soon as she was allowed to leave the weyr for the Healer Hall. It seemed a natural enough calling. Helping others was all that she was good at, so being a healer would have to do. Or so Shiammi believed, not daring to hope or ask for more. Others were suited to be candidates and she would help them as a healer. A perfect illusion shattered by her father’s very own Akoketh as the blue came through on search. Western had a clutch hardening on the sands and they’d been sent to sniff out potential candidates.

Akoketh seemed to think her capable and Taseya’s smug pride dared to spur Shiammi to think that maybe she could Impress and if not there was no harm in becoming a candidate all the same. That resolve saw her back at the weyr and through the clutches that passed without her Impressing. Not everyone impressed after all but she was young and being close enough to the dragonets as they sought Theirs was fulfillment enough.

Then came her father’s transfer to High Reaches and Shiammi’s own request to be transferred as well. She was still a candidate and High Reaches did have a clutch on the sands. And even this change in Weyr seemed to continue Shiammi’s ill-at-impression luck. Until a little green nosed through the candidates while her siblings fought and squabbled.

*They are being terribly silly aren’t they Shiammi Mine? Squabbling over who belongs where! So utterly silly of them! Color means nothing if you know nothing! Don’t you agree?* One heartbeat to the next, amusement and disdain tinging the voice in equal measure. *Your Aveligenth would never be that silly!*
Other: Shiammi has a number of siblings through both parents and they're spread between Western and High Reaches.

DRAGON
Name: Aveligenth
Origin of Name: Aveligenth from Avelignese, the other name for Haflingers.
Color: Green
Inspiration: The Haflinger, also known as the Avelignese, is a breed of horse developed in Austria and northern Italy (namely Hafling in South Tyrol region) during the late 19th century. Their current conformation and appearance are the result of infusions of bloodlines from Arabian and various European breeds into the original native Tyrolean ponies.

Breeding farms are in several countries, although most of the breeding stock still comes from Austria. In 2003, a Haflinger became the first horse to be cloned, resulting in a filly named Prometea.

Personality Steady Aveligenth. Confident Aveligenth. Intelligent Aveligenth. The patient calm to her siblings warring and snapping and strife. She is a green yes, she’s aware of her station, yes. Why would she be angry with that? That is simply the way of the world and that’s that. The fanfare is for her siblings, Aveligenth is much more interested in devouring new knowledge. New skills, new techniques for flight, drills, anything. Quick as a whip, Aveligenth’s greatest pleasure is in learning. At least one new skill or nugget of knowledge a day is absolutely necessary to keep her happy.

Aveligenth’s confidence often leads her to giving advice freely even if she isn’t quite sure how something goes. Hers likely knows and if even Shiammi doesn’t then they’ll find out together! No one should be left bereft of knowledge when it’s available. Knowledge that isn’t available or something she shouldn’t be privy to? Nonsense. Absolute nonsense. If she’s told no, then there better be a good reason for why she shouldn’t know something. ‘Because I said so’s are the easiest way to get Aveligenth’s sharp tongue and mind going at the new target of her ire. Why? Because that’s no answer at all! In fact that’s avoiding the question altogether!

And there lies a Aveligenth’s greatest flaw. Her confidence in her intelligence and desire to be given a laundry list of reasons why she should not be privy to new or sensitive information. She is happy to accept her station and even happier to avoid stepping out of line if it’s for reasons that have been explained to her satisfaction. She will accept nothing else, it would be disrespectful to her intelligence to. She can understand! She can understand very well if only someone would explain to her and not brush her aside or worse insult her very impressive (per her own standards) brain. As quickly as Aveligenth’s anger bubbles up as steam bubbles does when her intelligence is insulted, so too does it disappear into the air when she’s been appeased. It would be unreasonable to hold tiny misunderstandings against those around her after all.
Size: 22’
Physical Attributes: Long legs on a solid body, Aveligenth is a small green just under the average size for her color. Her elegance lies in the strength of her body, muscles well defined and proportionate for her size. Aveligenth’s tail makes up the majority of her length and her wings are just big enough to appear comical.
Additional Notes: Aveligenth’s skill in flight will never be in speed but rather in adapting to new situations as they arise and correcting herself on the fly. Aveligenth’s only consideration for chasers is if they can capture her attention beyond catching her body. Are they simply chasing because they have nothing better to do or do they have something to offer in conversation or daring to Aveligenth? That ideal of wanting something beyond a singular flight also informs her nonchalance at both male and female dragons chasing her. If they’re capable and meet her criteria then whyever would she deny them?

Why Me: Aveligenth saw a kindred soul in Shiammi, a fellow seeker of knowledge though Shiammi’s methods do need refining if you ask Aveligenth. She also needs someone to teach her that it’s okay to want things beyond being a doormat for others. Aveligenth has the confidence for them both in that regard. No one insults either of them and gets away with it, Aveligenth’s rebuke will be swift and merciless. For Shiammi’s part, her natural tendency to avoid conflict and arguments is something Aveligenth sorely needs to temper her especially when she feels she’s been insulted even if that’s hardly the case. Not everything is a slight against them and Shiammi will have to learn to stand up for herself when things are an insult to her and Aveligenth.

Haflingers Ahoy!

Name: K'zi [Kyzier] - Link
Age: 21 turns (app says 20, not updated)
Sex: Nonbinary (Afab) - They/them
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice harper, candidate
Physical Description: Kyzier's hair is a straw blonde in color, worn down in a casual braid. It's relatively straight (unlike them), and long enough to span their back while braided. The hair framing their face, however, is shorter, just past the chin, and barely long enough to fit into the loose braid they wear, should they try. Their eyes are a brilliant blue, reminiscent of the ocean, and their skin is tanned. They have a tendency towards surprisingly subtle colors in their clothing, but do enjoy wearing more ornate things. Clothing with multiple parts may be preferred, but they rarely wear the bright colors that one might assume they would. They have a fine sense for fashion, and enjoy wearing more expensive things, putting great effort into looking nice. They do not wear dresses, and prefer to make their own fashion rules, when it comes to what is proper and traditional, at least. They're of average height, around 5'6", with a sturdy, strong build. They look more feminine than not, so they compensate with masculine clothing.

Personality: cheerful, immature, energetic, stable emotions, reckless, impulsive, thrillseeker, easily bored, determined, ambitious, tenacious, ambigious but decisive legacy goal, playful, eager, INTENSE, sociable, controlling (leader????), overconfident, stubborn, opinionated, foolish, enjoys extremes

The world has not yet taken its toll on Kyzier. They remain young, immature, and fiercely cheerful, with a sort of innocence about them. They're optimistic about their future. No, they're absolutely certain things will turn out right! And not that they don't know that bad things happen, of course! But nothing bad has ever happened to them, which they interpret, subconsciously, as a sort of immunity to bad things happening. They have not yet been taken down a peg, and instead, they think that everything will be smooth sailing for them. Clearly, they're invulnerable, and even if they know, deep down, that mortality happens to everyone, they've never actually stopped to think about negative things happening to them.

Kyzier has all the energy of a whirlwind or hurricane, without the emotional volatility one might associate with them. They never seem to tire, and can continue moving at a high energy pace for hours on end. Their emotions are relatively stable, however, and even at their peak energy, they rarely lose control of themselves. That said, they're a bit reckless and impulsive, tending to act without thinking, and throw themselves into new situations which, though exciting, may be dangerous or detrimental.

A bit of a thrillseeker, they tend to seek out high risk, high reward situations and intensity. While they are rarely disturbed by anything, letting things roll off their back with ease, they're prone to intensity in their relationships. One can have strong feelings that shift constantly, and not be especially upset when things end up going south, after all. They like new, exciting things, and generally get bored easily.

Bored, maybe, but not unfocused. Things may get dull, but they know when things are necessary...for their goals, anyways! They push through the boring things with admirable tenacity, and their determination to succeed is strong. Kyzier is ambitious, and they want to succeed. Their current goal? Impress a dragon! A wher would be alright, too, but they've got strong expectations that a dragon is in their future. From there--the world is their oyster! They don't have a focused goal yet, per se, beyond just wanting others to know who they are. They're not sure how others are going to know their name, how they're going to leave their legacy, but by the first egg, they'll DO it.

Playful and eager, they can be a bit overwhelming in social situations. They have a certain intensity, a certain force of personality, that sometimes drives people away. That said, Kyzier is socially driven and enjoys being around people. They're a generally friendly person, and if you can get past the whirlwind of chaos and bossiness, they're very pleasant.

Bossy? Noooo, they're not bossy, they're just a leader! And leaders need to take charge, so that's what they'll do. They're confident in their abilities (and their success), perhaps too confident. The bigger they think they are, the harder they fall, after all. They don't notice their flaws, and exaggerate their positive qualities, and tend to assume other people are wrong when they try to show them the opposite.

After all, they are a stubborn person. They know the best way to do something, after all. They have an opinion on everything, and everything they have an opinion on is correct. Not that they can't change their mind, they just have to come to it of their own volition. Pressuring them to change their mind doesn't work well. While not exactly the best "team player" with peers, however, they do make a decent leader...in some regards. They don't play well with the idea of democracy, for example, or following someone else. If they're not in control of a situation, they get annoyed, an oddity for them, in other situations. When no one will step up and delegate, when no one is willing to do what needs to be done, they will do it. They take charge of situations so naturally that one might think they were born to lead. That said, several other qualities mean that even if they are a natural leader, that doesn't mean they're the best leader. Just because someone can take charge of a situation, be decisive and determined, and gain some positive results, doesn't mean that recklessness, stubbornness, or foolishness make for a good leader.

They enjoy extremes and attention, but it doesn't always need to be positive extremes or attention. Sure, they avoid acting out, generally, but they like to be on everyone's minds. They want to be talked about, known, and have a legacy. To some degree, it doesn't matter if it's for a good thing or not (though good things are, obviously, preferred). They like intense extremes, and seem to be equally in their element when things are exceptionally bad, as when they are exceptionally good. Monotony is their enemy. Shake it up a little, and they'll be much happier.

Positive Trait List Determined, Optimistic, Ambitious, Sociable
Negative Trait List Reckless, Immature, Overconfident, Stubborn

History: Kyzier and Zedrais likely had parents, at one point. They likely had been named. Maybe they'd even been dearly loved. The twins would never know the circumstances of their birth, and no one could provide enough tiny details to give a clue. The truth of the matter was this: two infants, clearly identical twins, had been left outside the door to Kyrasi's house. Who had left them there? They were about two months old, having arrived on the ninth month, the 22nd day. Their celebrated date of birth was two months prior to that fateful arrival.

Despite the dirty, unknown truth that the twins had been a burden to their mother, who had abandoned them as her caravan passed through, the twins had a charmed life growing up. Kyrasi, and her wife, adopted the two children and raised them as if they were their own. When the question came up, Kyrasi and Zierdred sat the two down and told them what they knew. No one knew who their parents were.

Despite this, Kyzier was the fierce leader to their sister's quiet, withdrawn personality. They got along surprisingly well, even if Kyzier was a bad influence on the otherwise well behaved girl. They got into trouble when they were together, and Kyzier led the charge every time. Their parents loved both children, even problem-child Kyzier, but things got strained eventually. Kyzier grew bored with their home, and requested to leave the minor hold and move to the harper crafthall.

They were granted their wish, and became an apprentice without much fuss. They had fun, but also learned a lot, eager to perform and make the magic of song and dance happen. They didn't care much for the studying and archives, but they forced themselves to sit through it. They have been intently studying and have made senior apprentice, and hope to make journeyman soon.

Still, they have always turned their head to the skies, and hoped for a dragon. They're still young, but they know they'll be searched and Impress long before they age out. They just know it. Why can't they be a harper and a rider, after all?

To their surprise, they didn't Impress at Western, and they didn't Impress to something shiny or large. They would have it no other way--but their lovely green found them on the High Reaches sands. Such a perfect, little thing, and despite the role they were forced into, both dreamed of more...

When Metaeproth approached, she seemed almost dejected--the only one who could reject her, the only one she could be truly, truly sensitive to the loss of...Would you really rather that your Metaeproth be bronze? You don't...want me to be a green?

Shocked, Kyzier knelt before Metaeproth. "Not at all! Greens are best! I just...didn't realize it before! How could I have ever wanted something big or shiny--you're just wonderful. Perfect!"

Other:
-Nameday: 2554.07.22 (may not be 100% accurate, see history)
- This is totally their theme song.
-Born in a travelling caravan.
-Lived at a minor Hold under Western territory, then to the harper hall. Searched to Western, Impressed at HR Swap.
-Adopted by Kyrasi and Zierdred along with their sister, Zedrais as infants.

DRAGON
Name: Metaeproth
Origin of Name: Prometea is the name of the first horse clone--one belonging to the Haflinger breed. Her name, in turn, comes from a feminine form of Prometheus, who created human life from clay. Prometheus gave fire to these humans, against the desires of the gods; a fitting name for a clone, in many ways. Like Prometea, Metaeproth knows she is not one of a kind or unique; like Prometea, this dragoness does not, cannot, reject her roots. She is a green, just as she is a haflinger. That, in her mind, does not prevent her from doing something great. //Note: I'm fond of Nibioth or Nibbioth, if this one doesn't work, but Kyzier wins!

Color: Green
Inspiration: Haflingers are strong and muscular, but quite small, as far as horse breeds go. They have surprisingly elegant builds, despite this, but some are shorter and stockier, while others are taller and more elegant in form. They are hardy creatures who work well in difficult terrains, due to their experiences with mountains. With Arabian ancestors, a version of the Haflinger has been in Austria since the middle ages, but the modern, true breed began around 1870, when Folie, the father of all Haflingers, was born. The name comes from the "origin" location, Haflinger, Italy--in the South Tyrol region.

Not only do these horses have a reputation for kind, quiet natures--they have these traits as a general breed requirement, to be recognized as true Haflingers. There are several lines of Haflinger, but all originate from one stallion, Folie. Haflingers have almost disappeared as a breed in the past, but through careful breeding, remain as a strong presence in the horse world.

According to one blog, the haflinger has several unique personality traits. Despite their tendency towards gentle tolerance, despite the requirements for the breed, they still have personality. Intelligent, they can often be surprisingly stubborn, and can be even aggressive when their patience reaches its limit. Sweet, gentle, but a bit too social, Haflingers enjoy spending time with others, even to the detriment of important tasks--and they can be very sensitive to rejection. That said, they do not show emotion or pain easily, and can seem very stoic. They can be very kind and trusting, but if that trust is betrayed, they tend to struggle--becoming rebellious or aggressive. Despite all these quirks, they have a reputation of being one of the sweetest breeds of horses.

Other sites describe the Haflinger as incredibly docile, social, and intelligent--a very outgoing personality. Cheerful and hardworking, they can provide many services, from therapy and pleasure riding to more manual work. That said, they can be easily bored and require a challenge.

Petmd describes the horse as "tranquil and determined." As the "tractor of the Alps," they are a hardy, brawny breed, suitable for many tasks, ranging from farm work and being mountain pack horses to western horse shows. They have a unique trait about how they move, as many consider it "energetic but smooth."

Note: this was written by someone who knows nothing about horses, and thus includes all my research and careful digging! It's probably too much, but I wanted people to know where my ideas come from, in case they're horribly off.

Personality Despite her color--low in rank and high in population--Metaeproth is determined to stand out. Being a green does not mean she cannot be great, and she views her green coloration as a strength, rather than a handicap. Sure, she has more to prove, more obstacles to pass, and High Reaches is set up against her--but that doesn't mean she can't be great. Even if she is only able to leave her legacy, rather than being in control, she is determined to do so. Her goals are a bit more focused than Kyzier's, however--she wants to lead. She wants to be in charge. She wants to rise to the top and be important. Sure, leaving a mark on the world is important, but Metaeproth is more focused than that alone.

In some ways, Metaeproth matches a haflinger--she has several of their traits, from general patience and kindness, to the stubborn, intelligent nature that can drive them to be aggressive. However, she is anything but docile and quiet. In some ways, she knows she should be, as a green. In other ways, knowing that she 'should' be only makes her more determined. Naturally, she is a social creature, driven to be around others. Sometimes, she needs to learn boundaries, as she is keen on both meddling and spending too much time with others.

Together, the world is their oyster! Metaeproth is more than happy to buy into Kyzier's optimism regarding their future. She is ambitious, with a sharp edge to her. While certainly not ruthless, she's prepared to make necessary sacrifices to get to the top. That said, she has a big heart, and loves easily. She doesn't want to HURT anyone to get to the top, so these are mostly self-sacrifices. Her ambitious nature is extreme, and she is willing to work hard and fight for what she wants. She knows she can lead others well--so why shouldn't she fight for the position? She enjoys being in control of situations, and trusts herself and Kyzier more than anyone else, when it comes to doing things right.

She is an empowered dragon, believing in her own inner and outer strengths. Confident, but not quite conceited, she is comfortable in her own skin and rarely worries about others' opinions of her. That said, she can be rather judgmental, and is quick to jump to conclusions. She is surprisingly cynical, believing in the worst in society as a whole. Individuals can be good, and she's going to love fiercely and strongly, but she's very aware that people, and society, can be cruel. Perhaps this is why she rarely takes things personally, and often judges moodiness to be someone's general disposition. Metaeproth forms opinions quickly and easily, be they about people or something else, and is loud about what she believes and why. To anyone who will listen, she shares her thoughts. The flip side is that she can be quite passionate--in loving, in working, and in playing. She makes time for leisure activities, of course, and enjoys listening to Kyzier's music quite a bit.

In many ways, this passion will not serve her well at her weyr. Perhaps they will be transferred, or perhaps guidance will mellow her out with age. Regardless, she is likely to butt heads with several of her siblings, openly speaking out against their treatments of the lower ranking dragons. This may land her in trouble. She will let personal insults roll off, unconcerned, but will snap at anyone who dares imply that greens and blues, even browns, are inferior. And don't you dare be rude to any white dragons, either!

"Curious" is a word to describe her. Metaeproth likes learning things. She wants to know how and why things work. Unfortunately, she's also nosy, interested in meddling in everyone's business. More than a bit of a gossiper, but with good intentions, she likes to know what's going on with everyone at the Weyr. She's a bit of a matchmaker as well, and enjoys pushing people to confess their true feelings, and things like that. In general, she's a romantic creature, who is prone to dramatic displays of affection--collecting flowers for a lover, for example. She loves deeply and often dreams about falling in love. Metaeproth is resilient, so despite occasionally crushing on someone who isn't interested, she is able to move on with her life easily.

Metaeproth is fiery and fierce, with a bold attitude that stands out. She refuses to bow to others, and those who act entitled cause her to bristle. That said, she is respectful enough--she just hates when others talk down to her or mistreat her, and will definitely speak up for herself. Assertive, to be sure, she doesn't let herself be put down or harmed.

While Metaeproth can be rough around the edges--unorthodox, passionate, and certainly fierce--she is nonetheless a loving creature. She cares deeply for others, and will always be fond of her siblings, even if she knows they are not necessarily...going to be "good" dragons. That's okay. She'll still love them, albeit in a somewhat complex way. Some are too traditional, but she will give them tough love. Some may be fools, and she will butt heads with those dragons, but she will love them regardless. She doesn't tolerate meanness or cruelty. Standing up for yourself is great! But don't be a bully. Metaeproth is quick to stand up for others, with a protective streak a mile wide. If you are timid, afraid, or simply unable to stand up against those who treat you poorly--do not worry, for Metaeproth is here! Naturally, at High Reaches, this may only make things worse...

In fact, she can be a bit...involved in others' business, too. Meddling, invasive, and nosy--but well-meaning--she often advises others or butts in when she shouldn't. Sometimes, people don't want her help, and this is foreign to her. She's definitely the sort to want to help others, and because she trusts her own capabilities more than theirs, she feels as though it's her responsibility to help them. She enjoys being in control of situations--especially those that pertain to her--and can be a bit bossy. What she sees as good leadership qualities, others often see as negative ones. Sure, she can take charge, but she's often not supposed to, and sure, she can keep others motivated and hold them accountable, but isn't she a bit demanding? She expects the best from others, even though she doubts their capabilities. Certainly a good leader (Metaeproth herself) would make them more capable, right?

Quick to anger and quick to forgive, Metaeproth's moods are a bit mercurial. She hates certain things and behaviors, and will not hesitate to tell someone off, but seems to forgive them easily, so long as they're not a repeat offender. Prone to giving second, third, and fourth chances, Metaeproth is nonetheless capable of maintaining a limit on things that are important to her.

Despite being a green dragon, one of her defining character traits is that she's motherly. Fierce, tough-love motherly, but motherly nonetheless. It's a shame she'll never have children of her own, but it doesn't stop her from trying to mother just about everyone. She desperately desires to mother dragons from clutching to...forever, really.

Positive Traits: Ambitious, passionate, loving, fiercely protective, motherly, romantic, assertive, big heart
Negative Traits: Cynical, mercurial, bossy, demanding, controlling, nosy, invasive, judgmental

Size: 20ft
Physical Attributes: Metaeproth is not the giant creature Kyzier longed for--nor is she shiny. She is, in fact, quite small, though at least she's not the smallest green ever. Kyzier will quickly need to reconsider their "bigger is better" perspective! While her facial features are surprisingly dainty and regal, her body verges on bulky. Twenty feet in length, maybe, but that's twenty feet of pure muscle. She's strong and powerful, without any evident fat or wasted space. Even more, Metaeproth holds herself with power and strength, each movement precise and decisive. She is surprisingly elegant and poised, despite being so strong-looking. She is quite physically capable for her size, and her flights will be slightly longer than one would expect.

Additional Notes: Metaproth regrets the fact that she is not a queen for one reason and one reason alone: babies! She wants desperately to be a mother, and will settle for "mothering" any young weyrlings she takes a liking to. Equal parts mentor, mother, and matron, she will take a "tough love" type of relationship with these weyrlings, and will model much of her "mothering" after hold-esque human relations. Even if it's a bit weird (you'd better not judge her). She will settle for mothering humans, as well--little odd things, so incapable at birth, but won't Kyzier go make one of those little cuties for her? She won't push them, of course, but she is gleeful at seeing any young creature of any sort.

Despite being at High Reaches, she has never wished for shiny hide. She disdains it, in fact, being very comfortable as a green dragoness. Maybe gold dragons have natural power, maybe they have command (she'd like command, though!), but she is not one, and does not regret this.

She is panromantic. When she rises, she only picks males, however, as if hoping that somehow she will magically clutch. Magically. She's happy to chase other greens, however, and can be extremely romantic. She believes in the power of greens, the strength of the largest fighting force, and will never cease encouraging her green sisters.

Keen and quick-witted, Metaeproth seems to have a knack for betweening. Her between accuracy will be strong, and she will master visual exercises easily as a weyrling. As an adult, it will be her strongest ability in threadfall, but is by no means so exceptional as to win her any awards. Her flame length is on the longer side of average, but exceptionally thin--precise, maybe, but she will not be known for easily flaming entire clouds of thread.

Why Me: Kyzier may not actually have room for advancement with a green, but Metaeproth is happy to (try to) lead them to a place of power. Both rider and dragon believe in their potentials, their abilities to do whatever they put their minds to--despite the odds being stacked against them. Metaeproth, if given the right guidance, may eventually be content to help and guide from the sidelines, and may help Kyzier be more comfortable with doing so. If not, they may be a force to be reckoned with, refusing to back down. Only time will tell.

Metaeproth loves Kyzier for their fire and determination, and matches them every step of the way, albeit with a more mature outlook. Kyzier needs to grow up a bit, have a bit more maturity, with less of that innocence/naivety/general silliness. Metaeproth knows how the world REALLY runs, and she'll guide Kyzier to navigate that. Despite her determination and optimism, she knows greens are given no power at High Reaches. She will remind them of the place the world expects them to be in, their supposed role, while helping them strive for more.

Filled with their own opinions, Kyzier may occasionally clash with their bonded, but the pair will always be good-natured about it. There will be power struggles and irritation, but eventually, even that will fade away, as they grow more comfortable in the bond. Regardless, they will be as close as any rider and their dragon; they just often feel friction. It isn't because they're too different--rather that they're too similar.

Still, Kyzier has the edge and curiosity that Metaeproth seeks. Ambition and drive are vital, and Metaeproth would have no other candidate to be her rider!

Haflingers Ahoy!

Name: Lyfrocier
Age: 22 - 3554.01.02
Sex: Male.
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual.
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Courtesan, clothing designer specialization.
Physical Description:
Tall, athletic, and well-built, Lyfrocier looks far more like the kind of man who'd be accustomed to physical labor as opposed to his former craft. At roughly 6'4", he's already got plenty of presence on his own, but the way he carries himself makes him appear to loom over others without much effort at all. For all his size, though, Lyf isn't particularly strong at all, and instead excels in more dextrous areas than anything else; as a result, he moves with a sort of dancer's grace, and maintains a kind of poise that gives him a regal air.
His features are sharp and distinctive, with a prominent nose, equally prominent cheekbones, and a near-perpetual scowl topped off with heavy eyebrows for a decidedly displeased expression. He has a well-trimmed beard, kept short and clean, and wears round glasses that would give him something of an adorable, owlish quality, were the rest of him not so harsh. His eyes are a dark brown, and his tightly-curled hair is the same color, save for one shock of white just above his right ear due to a birthmark that stretches to the corner of his eye in a similarly bleached patch that stands out against his dark skin. Usually, Lyf keeps his hair tied back in a utilitarian bun from which nothing is permitted to escape, and his clothing is kept pristine and well-cut at all times. He favors light colors, and is only begrudgingly swapping to anything darker so as to avoid besmirching it with the work of Weyrlinghood.

Personality:
For all his frowning and looming, Lyfrocier is actually a very...measured man, with little seeming to make any ripples on his surface. He appears to take everything in stride, provided it’s nothing that directly affects him, and often serves as a near-glacial force of balance in stressful situations. When under fire, Lyf is highly skilled at maintaining his composure, keeping his head above water until every bit of the problem has either passed or has been resoundingly dealt with. He tends to respond to these issues with the same calmness, although he’s shown himself to have plenty of bite to him should he finally be pushed far enough--he’s not exactly a forgiving man, and while the first instance of this type of thing will be met with a cool hand, if it resurfaces past that, he responds with far more harshness and finality. He’s not against giving people a chance to prove him wrong, but he has his limits, of course.

As opposed to many social matters, he finds his stride in the pursuit of knowledge. Lyf has a particularly voracious intellect, and one of his few joys is the study of...well, honestly, whatever he finds intriguing at the time. Anything that catches his interest doesn’t so much attract it as it does--completely devour it. When Lyf finds something to focus on, he throws every bit of his intellect and attention into learning about it, picking it apart and discovering every intricate nook and cranny there is to find. As a result, he’s surprisingly knowledgeable about a variety of (debatably useful) topics, but when it comes to things that don’t really captivate him, he finds it difficult to keep his attention where it belongs. In some ways, this tendency branches out to cover the people he interacts with as well--if he finds someone intriguing, he’ll hang on their every word (in a way that he hopes isn’t too terribly obvious, of course), but if they come across as dull or uninspired? He can hardly wait to be finished with this conversation.

Lyfrocier knows how to navigate most social situations quite well, provided they’re in a formal setting or at least have some guise of it. When placed in a strictly casual environment, however, he flounders more often than not, and will find any reason he can think of to leave before he makes an utter fool of himself. He’s set himself up to project a very specific image, and if he isn’t completely sure he can pull that off, he’d almost rather not try. He’s unfortunately rather pessimistic, especially when it comes to his own view of himself, but anything more than brief glimpses of how bad it truly is under everything else is highly unlikely. Lyf doesn’t really know how to handle deeper emotional connections, and while he’s not completely sure that he wants to isolate himself in every way possible, he’s just clueless on how to talk to people on a genuinely personal level.

Unsurprisingly, given his nearly complete lack of optimism and how easily he fixates on matters, Lyf tends to go over his own failures again and again, particularly if they were major setbacks of some kind. Although he also tends to blow these mistakes far out of proportion, there is a bit of a purpose to these over-exaggerated views of what happened: self-review. Lyf is constantly looking over his own...everything, really, analyzing himself with just as critical an eye as the one he takes to his fashion designs. What is deemed acceptable is kept, and even expanded upon--whatever isn't, however, will be excised as quickly as possible.
Unfortunately, this results in quite a lot of bottling things up, especially if they're distasteful traits or memories that he'd rather not engage with; at his absolute worst moments when his composure finally cracks, all of these unsightly things come spilling out, much to his disgust. It's at these rare times when others can finally get a good glimpse of all the things Lyfrocier tries to hide, as well as some of the internal mechanisms that keep his near-clockwork facade going, and he utterly despises that kind of vulnerability. He considers his restraint to be one of his best features, and the fact that he's (supposedly) able to keep all the less-than-pleasant bits of himself out of the public view is a testament to that--in the same vein, however, he also places far too much importance on these smothered traits, blowing them far out of proportion in his own head. He’s very critical of himself and his own actions, and will pick what he’s done apart until he feels that there isn’t anything more he can say on the subject. Usually, this takes months.

He hates showing weakness of any kind, and is usually far too proud to dare ask for help. As a result, he keeps a bit of a wall between himself and others, not wanting to open the door for any deeper interactions that might result in anything unpleasant escaping; this almost exclusively applies to his own emotions, and any more ‘genuine’ displays of how he’s feeling are completely considered to be mistakes on his part. Lyfrocier does not in any way like making mistakes, and is often far too hard on himself, especially when what these ‘errors’ on his part usually are--feelings he sees as unbefitting someone of his position, although...his position has certainly changed now. Bedavith has made it easier for him to stomach these failings and see them as something far less severe, and although he’s still hard on himself, he at least has someone to lean on that he knows will never let him down.

Positive Trait List: Attentive, composed, diplomatic, calculating, intelligent.
Negative Trait List: Pessimistic, obsessive, proud, self-repressing, headstrong.
History:
The only son of a minor Holder just outside Western Hold, Lyfrocier has always been used to a well-padded life and high standards. He was raised to hold himself with the grace and dignity befitting his station, and hold his family and Hold above all else--and why wouldn't he? To be a Holder was to be an essential part of Pern, and he fully intended to take up that mantle when it was time. Until then, however, he entered into Courtesan training, at first intending to learn the ways of diplomacy and negotiations; instead, he found his attention caught by something less...well, diplomatic. He had a burning interest in design from the moment he first began studying it, and his decision to pursue it seemed only natural to him. If he wanted to be a respected figure eventually, he'd have to look the part, wouldn't he? And considering the nature of what he'd decided would be his work, Lyf reasoned that he'd pick up plenty of people skills on the way. Negotiations for materials, tactful ways to handle unpleasant designs (and people), maintaining a high quality of work and keeping up his standards--it all made perfect sense to him. His parents, although somewhat confused, provided no opposition; they were more than happy to see their son pursue his own interests, and helped him find the master that he felt would be the best for him.

In this manner, Lyfrocier dedicated himself to his training, quickly showing plenty of promise in his chosen craft. He picked up the majority of his more avant-garde tastes from his first master, and remained a rapt student until it was finally time for him to walk the tables. After becoming a journeyman, Lyfrocier decided to branch out just a tad, spreading his attention a bit beyond the local epicenter of Western Hold itself and into the areas surrounding it. It was in one of his periodic trips in search of just the right fabric for his projects that he ran into someone with a bit more information on him than he would have liked, and Lyf quickly decided that he well and truly hated the overly familiar way the dragonrider talked to him. He was part of a trading caravan, and served as something of a guard; what really threw Lyf for a loop, however, was when the guard asked how his father's dragon was faring.

As things turned out, once all the misunderstandings and short bursts of yelling had died down and were replaced with proper explanations, his father wasn't his father at all, at least...not in the biological sense. Who he'd known as his uncle, a man who had been practically stricken from the family records for leaving his family in favor of becoming a dragonrider, was in fact the man responsible for his existence--and Lyfrocier didn't like this one bit.
So he did what he, in his measured and well-planned wisdom, thought was best: hunt the b*****d down and ask him what his problem was. He'd left his Hold and family behind, and all for--what, really? Thread was gone. Dragonriders weren't keeping the Hold running, and surely he knew that. Lyf was certainly old enough to set off under the guise of taking a trip to study another designer's work, and with a little finagling through his connections, was able to track him down without too much difficulty.

At the end of it all, he'd come face to face with...someone not even remotely like what he'd expected. S'roc was--relaxed, easygoing, and sat proud and unbending upon his Brown, unwavering in the face of Lyfrocier's judgment. After far more arguing than he'd ever admit, not to mention tears, which were the worst possible outcome, he had his answers. They weren't enough to really explain it all, but Lyf was able to build a slightly different picture of his life than what his parents had painted.

S'roc, then simply Syrocelle, had fallen in love with a woman as a young man of 23, going completely head-over-heels for the daughter of a fellow Holder. Their courtship had been brief, but fast--and it wasn't long before they got in over their heads. Together, they had a son--Lyfrocier--and for two and a half Turns, things...went. They both had quickly discovered that they weren't ideal parents, and were terrified of ruining their child's life before it had even properly begun; how would they know that they were doing anything right? Lyfrocier had been an unexpected arrival in the first place, and they had never quite been able to pick up the momentum they felt proper parents should have. After the pair had been approached by a rider with the intention of offering them the mantle of Candidacy at Western Weyr, they weren't terribly sure what they should do--on one hand, the promise of becoming dragonriders was practically a dream come true, and their union had been somewhat scandalous from the start. The Weyr could be a fresh start for them, away from the judgment of Syrocelle's family and the trappings of his status that felt more suffocating than anything else.
There was just one problem, however: their child.
Syrocelle's younger brother had been trying his best for a family for Turns to no avail--children were all that he and his wife had ever wanted, and despite no small amount of effort, they remained childless. After they approached him and his wife, there had been plenty of arguments to be had with regards to why they were leaving, but Lyf was taken in all the same, and without a second thought at that. It seemed a simple enough solution, really, and had, in fact, worked out quite well by all accounts. Lyfrocier had hardly had reason to complain about his home life, and had grown into a fine young man, although perhaps a touch too tightly-laced; as for S'roc and his love, they hadn't lasted much longer once the pair Impressed and found their hearts lay with their dragons instead of each other.

At the end of it all, Lyfrocier was...stunned, to say the least. S'rel had laid it all out so plainly, as though he had nothing to hide--and really, Lyf didn't think he did. What motive would he have, besides? It was all in the past to him, and that was that. Lyfrocier himself remained unwilling to change much of his own views, though; S'rel wasn't his father, no matter where his parentage truly lay. His family was waiting for his return, and although he was far from content with the knowledge he now had, he deemed it to be enough for his tastes.
The way S'rel had talked about it all, though--having a dragon, becoming a rider, all of that--it left...something of a curious imprint on him in a way he hadn’t anticipated. The man's dragon seemed to think he had the makings of a rider in him as well, and Lyfrocier found himself at a crossroads much in the same way S'rel had. Surely a little independence wasn't going to be that big of a deal--he'd have to keep it under wraps of course, much like he'd hidden this very visit in the first place, but it would be...easy. His parents trusted him without a doubt, and while going behind their backs for something much more serious than a day trip was almost enough to make him balk, Lyf couldn't shake the thought. His doubts were by no means insignificant, and there was a large part of him that simply wanted to turn around and go back to his home, leaving S’rel and his dragonriding in the past where he should have stayed.
He did. S’rel was by no means his future, and Lyfrocier had too much to think about to make a rash decision right then and there. He returned to his family and continued his training, throwing himself into his work as he processed everything he’d learned; he kept their meeting a secret, reasoning that it would never come up again.

Months later, however, he was approached again, this time by a different Searchrider pair. Again, he said no, although--this time, there was more hesitation. The thought that dragonriding had slipped through all of his walls to become something he almost yearned for was...difficult to stomach, and Lyfrocier wanted to find a way to smother it as quickly as possible. So, he did what he thought made perfect sense--once again, he took matters into his own hands, and decided he’d go through with it, tracking down the rider before he'd left to return to Western. He'd go be a Candidate just for a short while, enough to whet his appetite and then be done with it. He explained away the trip to his family as a different posting for his craft, and was sent off with plenty of blessings and fond farewells.
As it turned out, that decision had the opposite effect. Much to his chagrin, Lyfrocier found himself steadily growing enraptured with Western Weyr, turning his interest toward what it had to offer. He used it as inspiration for much of his newer designs, something he’d sketch out after he’d finished his lessons for the day, and started to wonder if perhaps this hadn’t been that bad of an idea after all. He’d still come back home once he’d gotten his fill, of course, and thought he was doing a good enough job at not getting attached to the Weyr at all. When there came news of a clutch on the way, he reasoned he’d Stand for it--sure, it was in High Reaches of all places, but once he had this one clutch behind him, he’d leave and return home.

As a result, he agreed to be a part of a Candidate transfer from Western, and came to Stand for High Reaches' newest clutch. His first impression of the Weyr was that it was cold, stodgy, and dreadfully...plain. It was without a doubt an important Weyr with plenty of its own merit aside from its obvious contributions, but he quickly found himself missing the feeling of Western, and almost regretted agreeing to the transfer. Really, he'd expected nothing more than a Hatching under his belt, some memories to either look back on or smother indiscriminately, and eventually returning back to Western after what he was sure would be an 'unsuccessful' trip. It would be just the one time--that was all he'd planned for himself, after all. Just once, to try and understand what made his biological father tick enough to maybe wrap his head around it all.

Things went very, very differently.

His first Hatching was--not as much of a mess as he'd heard they could be. While there were certainly injuries, nobody had died, as was apparently so common, and Lyfrocier was terribly glad for that. The heat of the Sands was oppressive from the moment he'd stepped onto them, and he'd made sure to position himself off to the side in more of an observational manner than anything; he refused to get any closer without having first-hand experience to help him judge the situation as accurately as possible, and still couldn't decide if he truly wanted to Impress in the first place. Truly, he thought that maintaining this doubt was the best course of action he could take--surely no dragonet would approach him, and that would be that. It was a clear-cut plan, as far as he was concerned, and Lyfrocier thought it to be largely foolproof.
One egg, largely unnoticed, spilled twin Greens out onto the Sands, and Lyfrocier barely noticed them. One of the dragonets within, however, certainly noticed him.

What do you MEAN you don’t want to Impress? That’s why you’re HERE, isn’t it?
He thought he was being hazed at first, really. Maybe it had been too clear on his face, and one of the other Candidates had figured out what the source of his doubt was--he hated to think that he’d have been that easy to read, but he supposed that it...could be possible. It made sense, at least, and although he was far from pleased with the idea, he wrote it off as nothing more than a bit of 'friendly' harassment directed toward a new face.
Don’t you know when a dragon is talking to you, dimglow? The voice came again, and this time, Lyfrocier had had more than enough. He looked around for the source, only to pause--a dragon, she’d said. Was he in trouble with one of the riders for something, then? That would be his luck, wouldn't it. You’re not in trouble! At least, not yet. If you say you’re not here to Impress again, though, I’ll show you trouble.
There was a dragonet at his feet. One of the twin Greens from just a few minutes before, now sitting before him and practically glaring up at him, eyes whirling red.
And rainbow. Lyfrocier thought he knew what color was, but as he looked into those faceted eyes, he felt as though he'd been utterly colorblind up until that moment.
You’re here to Impress ME, you idiot. So if you don’t-- If you don’t want me… Her hide dimmed at the thought, and Lyfrocier was suddenly awash in every ounce of her pain. His heart ached in more ways than he'd known it could, and as he slowly sank down onto one knee, she pressed on, propping her tiny paws up against his shoulders to keep him at eye level. Well. I--I’ll figure something out. I'm strong enough. There was a pause, and the prickle of uncertainty that ran up his spine was sickening. But...you want me, right? Why wouldn’t you want your Bedavith?

Shards. He’d have a lot of explaining to do in the future, but for now, his world had been reduced down to one round little Green hatchling. Oddly enough--he found that he was okay with that.

Other: He's a skilled artist and tailor, and is currently working on a whole wardrobe's worth of outfits to match Bedavith. He's very secretive about his designs while they're works in progress, and while he isn't opposed to drafting anything up on commission, if he's going to be making it, he'll generally disappear for a few weeks and then return out of nowhere with what you've asked for.
He has a particular fondness for fruit, and would very much like to learn how to bake a really lovely pie with some sometime. In the kitchen, though, he's hopeless.

DRAGON
Name: Bedavith
Origin of Name: El-Bedavi XXII, the great-grandson of the full Arabian El-Bedavi brought into the Haflinger breed’s bloodlines to reinforce Arabian traits, was the sire of 249 Folie, who would become the foundation stallion for his breed. Bedavith’s name is taken from his own.
Color: Green
Inspiration:
The Haflinger, also known as the Avelignese, is a breed of horse developed in Austria and northern Italy (namely Hafling in South Tyrol region) during the late 19th century. Their current conformation and appearance are the result of infusions of bloodlines from Arabian and various European breeds into the original native Tyrolean ponies. The foundation sire, 249 Folie, was born in 1874; by 1904, the first breeders' cooperative was formed. All Haflingers can trace their lineage back to Folie through one of seven bloodlines.

Personality:
First and foremost, Bedavith is almost unusually aggressive. She's hellbent on just about everything, from her day-to-day duties to her most distant dreams--and she fully intends to see everything through to its logical conclusion. Bedavith doesn't seem to know how to take no for an answer, and is a willful, headstrong creature who tends to react first and think later when her ire is roused, something that will require her rider's outside influence to temper. For all her force and fury, Bedavith doesn't usually register as much on most people's radar--she can play the part of just another compliant, agreeable Green should she need to, and does so quite well for most of her interactions. She prefers to keep her true intentions close to her chest, and doesn't trust easy, either; if she's not completely sure that whoever she's talking to is on her side, she'll keep mum without any second thoughts. Unsurprisingly, she tends to look on most others with no small degree of suspicion, and has a tendency to keep others at arm's length until she can be sure of their motives.

Bedavith's dedication is nigh unmatched, however, and when she finds a niche she can call her own, there's practically nothing that can take her out of it. She latches on to things with an ardent ferocity, and will defend what she's claimed regardless of the consequences. Most social repercussions are the least of her concerns, and Bedavith doesn't care much for the opinions of others--provided they’re not close to her. If she counts them as her close friends and confidants, Bedavith is almost desperate to keep their approval, which can lead to a new spread of problems should she unintentionally befriend someone with less than stellar motives. The company she does keep is without a doubt what she’ll defend with the most vigor without much regard for what they’ve done, and she’s very much in their corner until something truly inexcusable ousts her. Bedavith doesn’t respond well to losing people, be it from disagreements or Threadfall, and her hearts will keep aching long after the initial event. When she does love someone, that same fierceness is always present, and as a result, their absence leaves her directionless and bitter until she’s able to properly work through these feelings.

Positive Traits: Adaptable, vibrant, outgoing, protective.
Negative Traits: Untrusting, brash, stubborn, short-tempered.

Size: 20'
Physical Attributes: Small, stocky, and sturdy, Bedavith is a barrel-chested Green with short legs and wide wings, and it’s already quite clear that she isn’t going to grow into anything wispy any time soon. She's definitely built more for endurance than any kind of fancy flying maneuvers, and that suits her just fine--what’s the point of being showy if you can’t back it up, after all? Her headknobs are practically nubs, and stick out from her head at somewhat of an odd angle, pointing sharply outwards. Her favorite spot to be scratched is immediately behind their bases.
Additional Notes:
Bedavith knows what she wants in flights, and she fully intends to get it. Metallics are her guilty pleasure, but as long as any chasers are suitably robust and have an equally forceful personality, she's likely to pay them plenty of notice. Whether she’s chasing or being caught, Bedavith makes full use of her exceptional (for a Green, anyway) endurance, and will do everything she can to stay in the fight for as long as possible.
She’s not just hellbent on chasing what she wants--this innate ferocity extends to fighting Thread as well, and she will push herself to the absolute limit in defense of Pern the moment she’s able to. With Lyfrocier’s help, she’ll eventually learn how to play it just a bit safer, enough to where she’s not going to burn herself out quite so quickly, but she won’t feel as though she’s done enough if she’s not exhausted at the end of it all.

Her flame spread is short, but impressively wide. It’s best for handling bigger clumps at short range, and she has no qualms with getting close enough to take care of Thread properly.

Why Me:
Bedavith and Lyfrocier have plenty in common, but there's enough of a difference between the two of them to where they don't wind up getting caught in an echo chamber. Bedavith saw a man who, like her, was not willing to settle for anything less than what he deserved, and, despite some unfortunate pessimistic tendencies, had the willpower to chase after it more often than not. She wanted that--wanted a partner that wouldn't bend, wouldn't break, and had the potential to truly be something great with just the right nudges at just the right time. Bedavith is by no means a fan of the restrictive status quo of High Reaches, and Lyfrocier's Western training ensures that he wouldn't dream of seeing her as a lesser dragon simply because of the color of her hide; instead, she knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that he'll take her dreams and aspirations of greatness to heart.

She saw a kindred spirit in Lyf--a matching heart for both of her own that could better control her temper and direct that aggressive energy toward something more productive, even beneficial. Whereas she is the force and fire between the two of them, Lyfrocier is the careful, watchful director, someone who understands why she feels how she does and knows just what to do about it. For all his distance and distaste, Bedavith knows that he’s not a heartless man, and what she sees in him under it all speaks to that. In the same manner, she understands him, and wants to help him properly deal with all those ‘unpleasant’ things he keeps locked away. Someone with his kind of potential and spirit shouldn’t be kept chained by their regrets, and Bedavith has no intentions to let that stand. Lyfrocier is Hers, and they will become better together than they ever could have been separately.

Let's Paint!

    Name: Rykin

    Age: 24 (3551.11.07)

    Sex: Male

    Sexual Orientation: Mostly homosexual

    Weyr: High Reaches Weyr

    Rider Rank: Weyrling

    Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Woodcrafter

    Physical Description:
    • 6'3"
    • Black hair
    • Cautious but warm green eyes
    • Medium caucasian
    • Solid and chore-muscled
    • Well maintained, tastefully embellished clothing

Personality: To an outside observer, Rykin can seem rather indifferent and lazy, his defense mechanisms coloring everything that he does. He spent the first two-thirds of his life doing his best to be less than who he was, with very few exceptions, and that brusque insensitivity is a hard mask to shed. There are those who have seen beyond it, but even showing his beloved sister his true emotions feels too revealing these days.

In truth, he cares immensely about how others feel and what they think, and he wants nothing more than to see them happy, even at his own expense. He is very good at internalizing his negative emotions, though at this point he has pushed down so much heartache, jealousy, and irritation that it's starting to seep out around the edges. Rykin holds himself apart, preferring loneliness to the threat of disappointment.

As a Western Candidate, he takes his position very seriously. He is a conscientious, detail-oriented worker, but not a particularly fast one, a holdover from his days as a woodcrafter. He likes to take his time to make sure that everything is done exactly how it was meant to be, which is easier to accomplish when you're scrubbing a sick dragon's ledge than when you're preparing an intricate carving on commission. He is exceedingly patient and enjoys the praise he receives for a job well done.
(adapted and updated from meep personality but still has lots o meep in it pls don't sue)

Positive Trait List: diligent, sensitive, loyal
Negative Trait List: unhurried, slow to trust, repressed

History: The youngest of five brothers, with one sister several years behind him, Rykin was far enough along in the string of children that he never merited much attention. His father, Drykstan, was a Tanner, and his mother Malbrina was simply Drykstan's wife. She arrived by arrangement from another cothold at 15, and had her first strapping boy for him within the year. Both were perfectly content with the situation, and very quickly grew fond of each other... and had another boy, and another, and another, and another. The first became a Tanner like his father; the second became a Smith, the third and fourth added more Tanners to the family, which was just as well, as the first was Searched and became a dragonrider. When Rykin was five, his mother finally had the daughter she'd been wanting for well over a decade, and he attracted even less of her interest after that.

As he grew, Rykin learned the family craft from his father, primarily to fill his time and do something productive until he was old enough to decide if it was indeed the craft for him. The cothold certainly didn't need another Tanner, although he did have a good eye for detail and finer work. In his youth, he was often quietly shadowed by his little sister, Nadry, and the two became close, as the babies and odd-ones-out of the family. Where he received little notice from their mother, she got little from their father, and she was given no craft training. But she was curious, and when no one was looking, Rykin would sometimes share with her what he was learning.

Though he kept up with it for a number of years, no one batted an eyelash when Rykin admitted that Tannercraft held little appeal. Hoping to eventually move on to Woodcraft Hall, he took an apprenticeship in a neighboring cothold at the age of fourteen. For the next two turns, he saw little of his family, catching up with them during holidays and for the rare nameday. He was truly happy, and it was all the more fulfilling because his happiness was a result of his own choices. Unfortunately, his choices were also poised to spark great pain, leading to one of the most difficult periods in his short life.

Rykin had only tangentially been attracted to the girls he had known throughout his adolescence, so it was no surprise to him when he found himself trading secret kisses with a handsome Farmer's son at a busy Gather. It was a surprise to his conservative family, however, and he was promptly disowned by his parents and most of his brothers once his preferences had been revealed. Thankfully, his oldest sibling had been at High Reaches long enough to disagree with some of his family's views. M'yk and Dobrokhoth graciously brought Rykin to Lemos Hold where he tried to shrug off his past and begin his studies in earnest. He thrived as a Woodcrafter, walking the tables at twenty and receiving a firelizard egg as a gift from a beloved teacher. He trained the little flit to deliver messages to M'yk and Nadry—who, not long after Rykin became a Journeyman, was Searched to High Reaches. After she Impressed a brown, she became as much an exile from the family as he was.

Searched at twenty-two, Rykin now lives at Western Weyr, the craft that he loves reduced to a hobby. While he was once cautiously excited by the idea of becoming a dragonrider, his injuries at the claws of Yoneth and his advancing age have left him doubting if this is the path for him.
(early history by meep, recent by me!)

Other: Rykin has two flits, Brown Burl and Green Bark. His brother M'yk, sister Nadry, and nieces Oranie and Elibrie all call High Reaches home.

DRAGON

    Name: Toveroth

Origin of Name: Tovero is one of the spotting patterns exhibited by the American Paint.

    Color: Green

Inspiration: The American Paint Horse is a breed highly valued for its color and markings, but it is also a favorite because of its unique refinement and intelligence. Its current popularity notwithstanding, the Paint Horse has long been used in performance competitions as a show horse. It comes in various colors, amongst them, bay, chestnut, black, palomino, gray, buckskin, and blue roan. More important than their physical coloring are their distinctive white markings. While the marks vary in size, the patterns are standard. The two predominant coat patterns of Paint Horses, the overo and tobiano, are distinguished by the position of the white coloring on the body. The American Paint Horse has a muscular and firm neck, strong legs, sloping shoulders, mid-size ears, and intelligent eyes.

Personality: On the surface, Toveroth is a bright and affable young green who knows her place in the weyr and is happy to fill it. She has no kooky aspirations toward leadership and she's oh so enthusiastic about fighting Thread. She's the definition of a perfect chromatic.

And if you believe that, she's got a weyr to sell you in Nabol.

Most of the time, the facade Toveroth delights in presenting is just a heightened version of the truth. She would never covet the position of Wingleader, not because she thinks she's any less than a bronze, but because she has better things to do with her time. She's enthusiastic about Threadfighting because it's what she is meant to do. She is exceedingly observant and believes herself to be an excellent judge of character, and as such, she glides through life compulsively telling people what they want to hear. That's fine when she's dealing with her superiors and delivering on her promises, but when she fibs a bit too much to those she longs to be close to, the fallout once they find out can lead to a messy spiral of continuous lies.

She strives to perform at the best of her ability, for herself more than anyone else, but if her goals are in line with yours, her drive will prove mutually beneficial. Toveroth truly believes that with enough hard work they can end Thread once more, and she looks forward to the day when the people and dragons of Pern no longer have to be afraid.

Positive Trait List: optimistic, observant, adaptable
Negative Trait List: perfectionistic, selfish, cunning

    Size: 22'

Physical Attributes: Despite hatching small, Toveroth will grow to an average size for her color, though her slender legs and neck will give her the illusion of height. Her notably powerful wing muscles facilitate her exquisite maneuverability in the air, but she will always struggle with the conservation of stamina when left to her own devices. She will need a steadfast presence to keep her from tiring prematurely while fighting Thread.

Additional Notes: Toveroth's flame is slightly shorter than average, though she often makes up for that with precision. She will joke that it is longer than her twin's for as long as she lives, whether it actually is or not.

When she rises, it will be in a thoroughly unremarkable place amongst her sisters, neither first nor last. She will continue to do so regularly but not rabidly, the calculating side of her overtaking the obsessive in this case. She is looking for something more than a balm for a biological urge, and once she has a list of suitors who she is fond of, she will rarely let anyone catch her who isn't on it.

Why Me: It didn't require that deep of a dive into Rykin's psyche for Toveroth to know that he was her perfect match. He has a calming anchor of a mind, a steady presence that slows her tendency to go too far while supporting her desire to be the best that she can be. Toveroth saw a well of devotion in Rykin that was swiftly drying up, and she was transfixed by the idea of having a little of it for herself, while also helping the young man be less afraid of giving it to other people and causes. The green's ability to weed out and engage with friendlier sorts will help lessen Rykin's trust issues over time, allowing him to forge the long-lasting relationships he should have had for years. In the interim, she will gladly be the one he loves the most, a constant reminder that he too is worthy of the good things he has coveted ever since his family turned him away.

Though it is not her intention, Rykin will also benefit from observing and discouraging his dragon's multitude of little white lies, coming to the realization that he has been guilty of a similar sort of detrimental posturing for years.

Let's Paint!

Name: Niselle
Age: 19
Nameday: 3556.11.25
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heteroflexible
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice Beastcrafter (Hunter)
Physical Description: Niselle is a young woman prone to provoking double takes - not necessarily because of any kind of jaw dropping beauty, but simply because her appearance can be unexpected. The first thing that usually gets noticed is her fiery red hair, kept cropped short and with a curly texture that's nigh impossible to tame. Her olive skin and near-black eyes are entirely normal in comparison, and while her face could be called pretty, it's hardly her most striking feature. The second thing that's usually noticed about her instead is her stature. While she's a short woman, she's also one who is powerfully built - with broad, muscled shoulders and a healthy padding of chub that hints towards a woman who is accustomed to doing physical labor and has developed a frame to support it. And in a reflection of this, her sense of fashion is almost entirely practical. She isn't one to wear flashy cuts or expensive dyes, preferring instead durable clothes who can stand up to the demands of Weyr life and sturdy boots that won't wear down in a couple Turns.
Personality: Growing up in a big family helped shape Niselle into who she is from the very beginning, giving her a strong emphasis on the importance of family early on. To her, family is more than blood. Family is made up of the people you choose to invite into your life in every aspect, the people who uplift and support you unconditionally and for whom you do the same in return. And anyone who manages to find themselves among the group Niselle regards as family will find her support unwavering. Whether they need an empathetic shoulder and comforting words, a friend to encourage and offer advice, or an ally to fall on the sword for them - Niselle is happy to do whatever it takes to see her loved ones healthy and happy.

But Niselle is sometimes too willing to sacrifice of herself for her loved ones. She's always been the type willing to pick up extra odd jobs to earn a few extra marks to buy sweets for her siblings. The one willing to stay up late into the night to nurse a sick family member, and risk becoming exhausted and sick herself. More than once she's found herself tagging along on pranks that should have been simple enough, only to get caught and pipe up to take the brunt of the blame to ease the punishment on her companions. For her, at least, being assigned extra chores was far from the worst punishment imaginable. So taking the fall for someone else never seemed to bother her.

For Niselle is nothing if not diligent. She throws herself at every task assigned to her with her whole heart, whether it was learning how to properly make a noose trap to catch game alive or mucking out the weyrs of sick and injured dragons. She's never shied away from hard work, especially not when she knows the end result will pay off. And if she has to spend ten years of her life doing the same chores day in and day out, she'll consider it all worth it if there's any chance that a dragon waits for her at the end of it all. And truly, she's of the opinion that any good thing is worth both working hard for and waiting for if that's what it takes. For sometimes you can find other small joys in the waiting, and even bigger joys when your patience is at last rewarded.

This steadiness of her doesn't come without disadvantage, however. Niselle can be prone to digging in her heels when she is convinced she is right in something, and will rarely budge when she is certain her way is best. When she plants herself firmly enough, she is an immovable force, and if a loved one is dead set on something she knows is a terrible idea, she'll do everything in her power to convince them of such. Her will is not something to take lightly, and sometimes she can trample over those who are more passive without really meaning to. But it's never meant maliciously - Niselle only ever wants the best for those she surrounds herself with, and sometimes she just... Knows better than them.

The last thing worth mentioning of Niselle is that, beneath the steadfast and devoted outer layers lies a spark of adventure. There was a reason she so loved getting into mischief in her youth, after all - and it wasn't just the good fun of playing a prank on someone. There is a bit of a thrill seeker nestled deep in her heart, the kind of woman who would love nothing more than to fly fast and high and drop into free fall just to hear the wind rushing past her ears and feel her heart hammering in her chest. And perhaps it was this spirit that drives her ever onward towards becoming a dragonrider, towards the freedom of flight and the dangerous duty of calling herself someone who fights Thread.
Positive Trait List: Family oriented, supportive, diligent, patient, adventurous
Negative Trait List: Self-sacrificing, headstrong, willful, thrill-seeking
History: Niselle was the fourth child born to her parents - Journeyman Beastcrafter Kanismera and Master Healer Izielle of High Reaches Hold - followed shortly by her twin brother, Kaniel. In the end, she wound up being one of six children, with an eldest brother with no twin, another set of twin siblings preceding her, and one last single sibling born after her and her twin brother. While her family was larger than her parents had ever anticipated having, there was never any doubt that they adored each of their children. Niselle grew up surrounded by love, with plenty of siblings to find mischief with and parents who always encouraged her to pursue her passions.

And for the most part, aside from the occasional bit of mischief stumbled into with her fellow holdbrats, Niselle's life was peaceful.

The biggest event to happen to her family was when her eldest brother was Searched to stand at High Reaches, and went on to Impress a Bronze. The first time he was able to return home to visit, suddenly the world seemed so much bigger and full of possibilities. Up until then, Niselle had been working as an apprentice under her father, learning how to hunt live game to send to High Reaches as part of the Hold's tithe to stock their pens. But confronted with the very real possibility of becoming a dragonrider?

It was only to be expected that the next time a Searchrider came around, she and the rest of her siblings all but sprinted out to meet them - with their parents' blessing of course. And the remaining five siblings were successfully Searched and transported to High Reaches Weyr over two trips.

Niselle in particular took well to Candidate life, already used to the physical labor of learning to hunt game and capture it alive. And while neither she nor her twin Impressed on the first or even second clutch they stood for, she never seemed to let it bother her. Because she had set her mind to becoming a dragonrider, and even if she had to wait to Impress on the very last clutch she was still of age to stand for, she would.

She never expected Thread to return before she even Impressed.

It was an unexpected twist that turned her world upside down. Suddenly she got to see firsthand just how dangerous - how deadly being a dragonrider was. Even at High Reaches Weyr, where riders were still trained diligently for Threadfall, there were horrific injuries and deaths during that first fall. It was a rude awakening for her and her siblings to realize that being a dragonrider was no longer just a matter status and a fun new adventure. It came along with duty and very real potential consequences.

But even with the rather grim reality check, Niselle only doubled down after a brief period of realigning herself to this new reality. What kind of person would she be if she wussed out now and went back to a boring, if safe, life as a hunter in High Reaches Hold? Definitely not the kind of person she wanted to be!

So she stuck it out, standing for every clutch she could. And by the time Zenobiath's clutch was on the sands, she had stood for no less than eight previous clutches. Maybe even more - after four years as a Candidate during a Pass, it was all starting to blur together.
Other: Niselle has one firelizard from an egg gifted to her by her father not long after her eldest brother was Searched - green Mischief. In her younger years, Mischief often served as a lookout to warn her of approaching adults or potential tattletales when she and other holdbrats were setting up pranks.

DRAGON
Name: Uvaldoth
Origin of Name: Uvaldoth is named for Uvalde Doll, the 1965 and 1967 APHA National Champion Cutting Horse. Two of her children - Jose's Una Muneca and Doc Doll - went on to become top APHA performers as well. She was inducted into the American Paint Horse Foundation's Hall of Fame in 2012.
Color: Green
Inspiration: American Paint Horse

The American Paint Horse can trace its ancestry back to the horses brought to North America in the 1500s by Spanish explorers. It is believed that these horses most likely had Barb, Andalusian, and Arabian bloodlines and already sported the distinctive spotted and two-tone coloring their descendants are known for. Many of these horses ended up roaming wild across the continent, and were eventually adopted and bred by Native Americans.

When North America was colonized, British colonists started to introduce thoroughbreds to the gene pool, creating a sturdy working horse with a keen intellect that was steady on the trail. This continued until 1940, with American Paints sharing a gene pool with Quarter Horses up until the foundation of the American Quarter Horse Association, which excluded horses with too much white from its registry.

Despite this, the breed remained popular, and survived to see the formation of the American Paint Quarter Horse Association and the American Stock Horse Association - the two of which joined in 1965 to form the American Paint Horse Association which now maintains the breed's registry.

The registry counts approximately 100,000 members in roughly 40 countries around the world. The American Paint Horse is a very popular breed in part because it is suited to riders of all experience levels, and the breed excels in multiple equestrian sports, as working horses, and as all around general riding horses.
Personality: Uvaldoth is a dragon brimming with energy from the very moment of her hatching, bursting from her shell alongside her twin and charging towards a cluster of Candidates without much warning. It turned out well for her that time - she found Hers, after all - but this kind of energy and lack of forethought is something she seems to bring into her life every day. And it isn't for lack of trying, either. Even with the steadying influence of her rider, Uvaldoth has more energy than she seems to know what to do with, and is prone to making snap decisions without pausing to think things through.

It's especially egregious because she can think things through when she takes the time. In the moments she's burned off most of her energy and capable of finally slowing down, Uvaldoth proves herself to be a remarkably intelligent dragon. She picks up new maneuvers and wing formations easily, and for all her impulsive decision making, sometimes her quick thinking proves her well. She's the type of dragon with a mind that races constantly, focus hopping from one thing to the next, but when she does focus it's truly a sight to behold.

And nothing gets her focused more than competition. While Uvaldoth is capable of friendly rivalries, she also has a bad habit of setting herself up to compete against anyone and everyone, regardless of whether or not they're interested in competing with her. She's always pushing herself to do better, to be better than her peers. She wants to fly faster, rise higher, go farther, flame longer than any dragon she sets herself against, and is prone to wearing herself out in pursuit of competition.

But as competitive as she can be, she always puts those unrealistic expectations on herself. Outside of her self-imposed challenges, she is a friendly dragon who is capable of getting along with almost everyone. The pressure of competition may see her thriving, but surrounded by other dragons is where she flourishes - eagerly socializing with anyone willing to stop long enough to chatter with her. She could easily spent hours each day catching up with whoever came close enough for a quick hello, and lingered past her initial greeting to actually engage with her. And with her keen intellect, she remembers all the fine details of each of her friends, from whose favorite meal involves wherry to which dragons also favor her own favorite sunning ledge.

Positive Traits: Friendly, highly social, intelligent
Negative Traits: Competitive, hyperactive, impulsive
Size: 21'
Physical Attributes: Uvaldoth is on the shorter side of average length, but she has an overall strong and well-balanced body. While she is a bit heavier than most greens her size, a glance makes it clear that the extra bulk is all muscle - with most of it concentrated along her flight muscles and hindquarters. And her heavily muscled chest is perfect to support her wingspan, which is rather large for a green of her size, giving her excellent maneuverability.
Additional Notes: Uvaldoth is capable of powerful ground takeoffs thanks to the muscle in her hindquarters, and her well developed flight muscles allow her to rapidly accelerate to top speed. She is also capable of surprisingly tight turns for a green of her bulk. Unfortunately she has terrible stamina even for a green, and will need a firm hand to make sure she doesn't wear herself out early into Threadfall with fancy maneuvers.

She rises an average amount for greens - usually between three to five times a Turn, depending on how she feels. She welcomes all who'd like to chase her, even fellow greens - and frankly her fellow greens stand the best chance at catching her. She breaks out all her wildest acrobatics during her flights, wearing herself down quickly but making herself difficult to catch thanks to all her on the wing turns and agile maneuvers. Those who hope to catch her will have to impress her with their own feats of agility and acrobatics!

Out of all her clutchmates, she is closest to her twin, Wahokinth - although she also has a mild rivalry with him. They challenge each other to do better each day, and their biggest disagreement to date is over which of them is older. Uvaldoth will swear to her dying breath that it was her nose that came out of their egg first!

Why Me: Why do the tides follow the moons? Why does the sun rise and set? Why does the Red Star bring with it Thread? It all simply is, and for Uvaldoth, it simply is that Niselle is Hers. For who else could be Hers but Niselle? Willful Niselle, who can reign in the worst of her impulses. Thrill seeking Niselle, who she can share the joys of acrobatic flight with. Loving Niselle, who she can always rely on to talk with her until the small hours of the morning if that's what it takes to get her to sleep.

Uvaldoth chose Niselle for balance, to both smooth out her rough edges and to bring forth the parts of themselves that could be even greater. Much like her, Niselle doesn't let the dangers of Thread intimidate her, and is fully prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice if that's what is required of her. Her rider is the woman who can bring her to focus when she most needs to, who can guide her impulses where they are best served. A woman who won't look down on her for wanting to befriend everyone she possibly can, who will support her desire to challenge herself to be better every day. A diligent woman who doesn't shy away from work, and would be more than willing to work with her until finally her energy is spent and her mind is calm.

And in return she can give Niselle that ultimate joy of joys, to take her to the skies as her heart has always so truly desired.

Would you be willing to change the color to match a twin? i.e. If you tried for the green but we needed a blue? Or vice-versa? Yes

Other Note: Niselle and Uvaldoth were originally written to tie in to an entry written by Redbud-Tree. In the event Redbud-Tree does not win her twin while I win Uvaldoth, I am perfectly fine with tweaking the references to him!

Let's Paint!

Name: Velen [x]
Age: 19 20
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Unsure
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Weyrbrat
Physical Description: Bearing the family genes of being somewhat short [5'6"] and having long blond hair that curls towards the ends into wisps (though his is closer to brown now that he's older), Velen also has the kind of face that makes one think he's 10 instead of almost twice that. His youthful but low-key energy lends to the idea that he's just an overgrown kid who happens to be sporting vague beginnings of facial hair. Like Fela, he has large, expressive eyes, though his are green, and softer features. He might be sporting a bandage or two on his hands as he's not always careful around knives.
Personality: Velen has no special ambitions other than to care-take and be himself, to the frustration of his mother and sisters. He has a flair for cooking, yes, and sometimes something more specialized besides for a special occasion, like a dessert for a certain sweet tooth, but he does it because he likes to give, he says, and not because it's anything special. Instead of walking the tables at Southern Hall, he chose to stay with his family at High Reaches, where he could curl up with a piece of cheesy bread in a private corner and relax.

Velen has come to associate his hobby (not his trade, he stresses) with feeling good and free, and he'd rather not tarnish it with the idea of being, gasp, apprenticed. Faranth knows he'd just as soon fail out, not because he didn't have the talent but because he didn't have the will or ambition to pursue an actual rank in his craft. Even when he does something for someone he knows they would like, Velen frets about it not being good enough. Imagine having to actually put effort into things, to be scored and criticized by strangers. He shudders at the thought.

No, he'd be happy to be a homebody, whether it's for his family, or for someone else. He's quite knowledgeable in housekeeping and is happy to dust and wash dishes; it's one of the only areas outside of cooking where he doesn't tend to slack. But reading up on history, studying texts? Ew. Why bother when he knows he'd be a good butler, maybe to someone rich? His mother is certainly happy with the idea if he is, though his older sister Fela objects. While sometimes he does feel oppressed by the weight of every opportunity he's passed up, Velen for the most part is carefree and ready to assist others--or else ready to continue running away from said missed opportunities by diving into a new task.
Positive Trait List conscientious, empathetic, family-oriented
Negative Trait List lazy, self-doubting, responsibility-averse
History: Like his siblings, Velen grew up entirely within the creches of High Reaches, with a few of those turns spent directly under Fela before she moved to pursue her mindhealer training. It was around this time that all of his sisters were abroad, in fact, with Emielle courting a contract as a dancer with a semi-famous troupe and Eathel packing up to tour Pern with her then boyfriend. Left with only his mother, Velen was quick and happy to try and pull his weight around the house. Doing so seemed to help him avoid the big question she wanted to ask him: what was he going to do with his life?

For a time, "take care of you" sufficed.

When it no longer did, Velen sold his mother the idea that he might pursue something in cooking, as that was his favorite part of the assigned chores. Luckily for him, two of his sisters returned around that time and distracted Vaethela from her wayward son's future with their own sets of drama. Velen rode out the waves humming and relieved, but now that the waters have settled again, he's set to avoiding the question some more. "I want to stay here and help," he'd say, which was the most resolute answer he could think of.

"Fine," Fela told him sweetly. "You can be a candidate and a cook, can'tcha?"

Oh so very lucky that weyrbrats were allowed to be part of the instruction, Velen now bides his time scraping by in classes, eager to slip away and cook a comfort meal. Some part of him thinks it's good to have a set schedule with a possible future, but there's another part that says it's just another waste spent on him.
Other:Younger brother of Fela. Does not actually like sweets but knows how to make them for others.

DRAGON
Name: Kingunth
Origin of Name: Colonels Smokingun, or "Gunner" as he was more commonly known as, was a famous sorrel overo Paint stallion. His accolades earned him immortalization as a Breyer model horse in 2001, and NRHA inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 2003. Earning nearly $175,000 during his competitive career, Gunner also earned a Register of Merit and Superior in reining from APHA. As a sire, Gunner quickly proved his ability to pass along both his great temperament and athleticism. To date, his get have earned more than $5 million in NRHA earnings, making Gunner one of only five stallions—and the only Paint Horse—to reach the milestone. He passed away on July 8th, 2013, from complications of laminitis at the age of 20.
Color: Blue
Inspiration: American Paint Horse
Decorated by nature, the origins of the Paint Horse in North America can be traced back to the two-toned horses introduced by the Spanish explorers, descendants of horses from North Africa and Asia Minor. Inevitably, some of these colorful equines escaped to create the wild herds of horses roaming the Great Plains. Captured and gentled, they raced alongside the vast herds of buffalo and traveled hundreds of miles on cattle drives. Cherished by the finest horsemen of the Western frontier, both Native Americans and cowboys sought the hardy horses loudly splashed with color.

Over time, breeders gradually improved the conformation and athletic ability of the rugged descendants of wild mustangs and cow ponies. Each generation passed its unusual and unique coat patterns and coloring to the next, creating the American Paint Horse. Today, the stock-type conformation, natural intelligence and willing disposition make the American Paint Horse an ideal partner for pleasure riding, showing, ranching, racing, rodeoing, trail riding, or just as a gentle friend for the kids.

A registered Paint horse should conform to the same "stock horse" body type desired in Quarter Horses: a muscular animal that is heavy but not too tall, with a low center of gravity for maneuverability, and powerful hindquarters suitable for rapid acceleration and sprinting. Built for versatility, the American Paint Horse is generally short-coupled, strong-boned and well balanced. Yet Paints display a remarkable degree of refinement and beauty, especially about the head and neck.

Personality: There's no getting around it: Kingunth is large. Massive. Fat. His dexterity suffers in the fine motor skills department, he enjoys meals like a glutton, and there truly seems to be nothing spectacular going on in the mind. Did you see how he tripped over himself when that dragon came by? Or how he doesn't seem to hear you even when you're shouting into his horns? Don't let Aresoth or Zenobiath hear, but that blue over there stewed a little too long in his shell to be right in the head...

Yes. Keep laughing. The lumbering, chubby fart of a gold couldn't possibly care when he's thinking of his next meal, right? Little do they know that said meal may be non-material: such as a plan of their own undoing.

Kingunth, or King simply, thinks he's too clever for his own good. He learned quickly what it means to be a blue at High Reaches, and he intends on rising above it. He can act the fool, leveraging his weighty body and the stereotypes associated with it to hide under the radar, while he plots. Or perhaps he'll create a different persona to better situate himself with someone. He's ambitious, no denying it, but like a cat in a room of rocking chairs, there's simply too many things that tempt him. Should he cultivate a relationship with that sympathetic dragon to get a claw into their social circle? Should he "accidentally" catch someone doing training outside of class on his way to find a juicy piece of meat? Should he devise a situation to become the victim or the hero for attention? So many things to try and succeed and experiment with, so little time. He's very caught up in the want to be known and less clear about the how part.

Kingunth's intelligence and pride lies in his ability to consider all sides of a situation before selecting the (obviously) correct or most amiable response. This makes picking up new techniques and training in general very easy for him. He's the type to have several hundred plans, unknowingly picking up new ones and forgetting to complete others in his quest to have it all. This is where he can come across as dimwitted or forgetful as the blue gets lost in his own thoughts, pursuing something fresh and promising at the cost of a long-con. This can also happen with others he meets, often mixing up names and memories as his more sociable-minded plots backfire. Not everyone has the same memorable qualities as King, after all, but he doesn't hold mediocrity against them. Some are quite fine where they are--but not this dragon.

Not that he means to be a malicious chaser of fame and fortune. On the contrary, when not enacting something, Kingunth is quite polite. Perhaps not the friendliest or most open of dragons, but not someone who intends to leave a sour taste in your mouth on purpose. Conflict leads to more energy having to be expended, more attention diverted, and ugh. What a waste of time. He'll intentionally make himself out to be bland or dim to avoid rocking the boat if it's not planned.

This blue doesn't intend to create deep relationships with anyone but his rider, and as such unless a purpose is served, he tends to shy away or divert attention from himself. Selfish as he can be, Kingunth isn't out to hurt others while doing so--well, unless you're a rival. Then you can stand some humiliation when he pulls the curtains back and reveals the brain behind the brute. He can be quite competitive if someone gets under his skin. Still, there's a silver lining to his achievement hunting: he won't cause trouble during Threadfall and will be a model dragon to work with while working or socializing. He also reserves a gentler side to those that he calls his, should King ever actually open up enough to someone besides his rider.

In a sense, Kingunth is paranoid of not giving exactly the sort of impression he toils for hours creating in his head, and if caught off guard by genuine kindness or should an idea go awry, he can become flustered and fixated on his mistakes. How could he not forsee this? Is he not brilliant? He tries to take these moments in stride: it makes faking them later easier to pass off as the real thing. Only...Sometimes he wonders what the "real thing" is: The fat idiot, or the skulking plotter? The clever blue, or the conniving one? Kingunth's mask (or masks, if developed) as his shadow, and the more he refines this ability to create personas, the less he will understand himself at his core. It's hard to say where he got this idea that he has to pretend to get what he wants, but it's a pervasive part of him that his rider will have to negotiate as they grow and train.

Kingunth brims with energy, but much like his personality it's a subtle kind. His athleticism won't be noticeably until later, but he truly is a workhorse of a dragon: seemingly nothing short of a twice-over hardcore regimen will tucker him. He's falsely modest about it, often painting himself as a slow but steady flier until seemingly out of nowhere he dips into his well of will and performs as deftly as a small green. To be fair, he does have slower starts than most, but like a boulder on a hill, once pushed he's nigh unstoppable.

sharp, ambitious, hard worker, generally genial
performative/fake, self-centered, proud, vague goals

Size: 33'
Physical Attributes: Despite having shorter limbs than normal, it's not hard to spot Kingunth in a crowd: he's a massive blue in terms of both length and girth, and his angular head makes his silhouette striking. He's careful to keep his motions slow and deliberate, however, not just to avoid shoving others but to keep up appearances as a slow-going gentle giant. He will always be stocky even if put on a diet, and his bulk will come in handy during heavy Threadfall as he matches small browns for his shift.

Additional Notes: This blue will always sniff out new culinary things to try, believing he has an iron stomach. His rider will have to be careful of this and that Kingunth doesn't sneak in extra meals as well. He's a grazer that tends to eat throughout the day rather than chow down in one go.

While not often a chaser, Kingunth's eye will be drawn towards those older than him, or those who have an old soul and a keen mind, should he ever turn to matters of the heart. An experienced or intelligent dragon seems more interesting to talk to than a newborn. This also spills into interactions with humans, with a distinct dislike of children and a general pleasure chatting with adults. And flits? Not worth his time or yours, thank you.

Depending on his twin, he may view her as his greatest rival by merely existing in the same shell as him or be overly protective of her. Or both. He's a weird, contradictory dragon like that.

Why Me: Is the King not the most intelligent dragon already, to have chosen someone so capable? Yes, Velen dislikes responsibility, but we all have our shortcomings, weaknesses that can be fixed right up. Kingunth assures him that he can do as much or as little as he pleases once they are on top--an argument that he's still refining, seeing as His doesn't always see eye to eye when it comes to the spotlight. But both are incredibly hard workers when put to a task they're good at, and that suits Kingunth perfectly. The blue gives Velen a new perspective about what it means to do good for others, and that adulthood means taking charge of his life and accepting responsibility and risks as much as he hates them. In turn, Velen helps King understand that lives have meaning outside of the pair through the caretaking of his mother, and most importantly to chill out every once in a while: preferably with a well seasoned meal. Kingunth need not fake his way around his rider, who knows that deep down in his hearts is someone scared of not being good enough as he is--a problem Velen sympathizes all too much with.

Let's Paint!

Name: K’niel (Formerly Kaniel)
Age: 19
Nameday: 3556.11.25
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice Beastcrafter (Tracker)
Physical Description: The first and most noticeable thing about Kaniel is that he is very tall, and very lean. While he got his height from his mother, a tall and stocky giant of a woman, he doesn’t have the build required to turn a man into a mountain, and instead greater resembles a young tree: tall and straight-backed, but with not much girth to show for it. Capped off with dark auburn hair that rests on the wavier side of curly whenever it reaches past his ears (which it nearly always does until the tickling drives him mad enough to trim it back short again), olive skin, and dark brown eyes, he presents a picture striking if not extraordinarily handsome, though the slightly crooked nose he sports from a childhood accident gives him a somewhat rakish look.
Personality: As one of six children, and the younger of a pair of twins at that, Kaniel has learned how to get and keep attention when he longs for it: with wit and sarcasm, humor and a certain level of playfulness. Life is only as fun as you make it, after all, and when you have a family as large as his, there’s always a need for a sense of humor.. In Kaniel’s mind, there isn’t a situation out there that can’t be improved by a good laugh, and as he’s most comfortable when the mood is light and full of laughter, he’s quick to comment and to tease, to make jokes and offer witty remarks, though he doesn’t always think before he says something. If he sees the opportunity to make a good joke, it’s often difficult for him to hold his tongue regardless of the seriousness of the situation or how unwelcome such remarks might be.

Always looking toward the next new experience, Kaniel isn’t afraid of much --- or rather, he finds a certain thrill in that fear, an excitement amid the danger, and chooses to face it accordingly. As a child this led to trying to climb things or find hiding places during games that may have been more dangerous than convenient, or getting into mischief that may or may not have gotten all five of his siblings involved too. Nowadays it’s tempered slightly, but he still dreams of the more exciting things in life, at the top of the list which is, quite obviously, of flying a dragon; for what could be more exciting than soaring through the sky and going Between places on dragonback? The idea that something could go wrong simply never seems to occur to him, so confident is he in both his own ability and the whims of fate.

That isn’t to say, however, that Kaniel is prone to rushing into things. On the contrary; he’s quite good at waiting and watching for the opportune moment, and tends to take in the situation around him in more detail than you might think for someone who spends most of his time with a quip at the ready. He has to pick up on and keep track of a lot of information at once, and does so almost on instinct. Kaniel can and will wait for the right moment to say something or to take action, but generally notices it quickly enough that it can seem reckless. (And in a way, it is --- it’s just not recklessness from acting too quickly, but rather a recklessness born of an overconfident certainty that everything will work out the way he intends it to.)

All of this, however, is a result of what is probably Kaniel’s greatest flaw of all: he avoids things that make him uncomfortable. Interpersonal conflict, overly-emotional situations, trauma-inducing disasters… he doesn’t know how to deal with them, and so he falls back on his tried and true weapon of wit and humor to avoid that discomfort for as long as possible. When a situation becomes truly too serious or dire for humor, Kaniel is all-too-often left at a loss.
Positive Trait List: Playful, adventurous, brave, observant.
Negative Trait List: Impertinent, insincere, cocky, avoidant
History: Born the fifth child of Journeyman Beastcrafter Kanismera and Master Healer Izielle of High Reaches Hold, Kaniel lived a childhood that was perhaps a bit more crowded than other Holdbrats, but very nearly idyllic. A loving and supportive family, a twin sister he adored --- and how could he not, when she was both his partner in crime and his common sense, helping rein in his wilder ideas and gleefully participating in milder mischief? It was a good childhood and a simple one, where the most exciting thing that happened was their oldest brother being Searched to High Reaches, where he ended up Impressed to a bronze.

This event, small as it may have been in the greater scheme of Pern, upended Kaniel’s world in the best possible way. Like many children, he had idle fancies of growing up to be a Rider, though his fantasies were simply of aerobatic tricks and freefalls --- with Thread gone, there was no need to think of the other, long-since ended duty. But idle those fantasies had been, until his brother Impressed. Suddenly, it was an idle dream no longer but rather a deep-held desire. And luckily for him --- along with all of his other siblings, who had also found themselves confronted with the very real possibility of Impression, because after all if their brother could do so, then why couldn’t they --- he did end up Searched, and forgetting all his once seemingly-more-plausible dreams of becoming the best Tracker in Pern, went to High Reaches to begin his candidacy.

He had some difficulty adjusting to candidacy; he wasn’t unused to difficult work, but the duller aspects of chores didn’t sit well with him. He did them, of course, because one must pay their dues and this was a chance he refused to endanger, but sometimes he did wonder if he wouldn’t have been happier, in fact, if he hadn’t wanted this. This all changed when Threadfall began again. Kaniel was no fool, after all; with thread falling, riders were not only a dream, they were necessary, and though he had never dreamed of fighting thread (why should he have?), he redoubled his efforts and his focus, aware that a lack of knowledge or judgment would prove to be far more dangerous now than it had been before, should he manage to Impress.

If he would ever manage to Impress. Four years standing wasn’t the end of things, not yet, but more than half a dozen clutches without a sign of hope could begin to wear down even the most optimistic soul. Still, he’d keep standing as long as he was able; to quit now would be to admit defeat, to say he’d made a mistake, and should his Siblings all Impress and leave him the only one without a dragon, he would never live it down.
Other: Kaniel has a fire lizard given to him by his father at the same time his twin sister received one. His is a brown named Lookout, rather appropriately due to the fire lizards’ training to watch for trouble and sound an alarm if there was any danger of a childhood prank being found out.

DRAGON
Name: Wahokinth
Origin of Name: Wahokinth’s name comes from Wahoo King, the first registered gelding in the APHA. Already a famous roping horse, he was instrumental in building interest in the breed and helping the registry gain members during the initial years of its growth. Though he was a gelding, rather than a stallion and as such could not continue his bloodline, his importance to the American Paint Horse Association and thus his breed cannot be understated.
Color: Blue
b]Inspiration: Descended from horses introduced by the Spanish conquistadors, Paints became part of the herds of wild horses that roamed the Western deserts and plains. Once domesticated, because of their working ability and heart, the Paint was cherished by cowboys for cattle work. Native Americans revered the Paint, which they believed to possess magical powers.

While over the years the conformation and athletic ability of those rugged mounts of the Old West have been improved by breeders, the unusual coat patterns and coloring remain the same. The stock-type conformation, intelligence, and willing attitude make the American Paint Horse an excellent horse for pleasure riding, ranch work, rodeo, trail riding, racing, showing, or simply as a friendly mount for the kids.

Built for versatility, the American Paint Horse is generally short-coupled, strong-boned and well balanced. Yet Paints display a remarkable degree of refinement and beauty, especially about the head and neck.

The Paint Horse's colorful coat pattern defines the breed, because it is perhaps the most obvious trait. However, Paint Horses must also possess a distinct stock-type conformation. Paints come in an endless variety of patterns. Their coat is always a combination of white with any of the basic colors common to horses: black, bay, brown, chestnut, dun, grulla, sorrel, palomino, gray and roan. Regardless of color, no two horses are exactly alike in coat pattern.

Personality A dragon of quick-thinking, Wahokinth is among the first to catch on to a new technique or a new trick, and is able to put a plan into practice on the fly that, while not always thought through generally has a good chance of success--- if, of course, he could ever get more than halfway through it without getting his attention caught by something else. Wahokinth is clever, it’s true, but his cleverness comes as a double-edged sword; he gets bored easily and his mind wanders, or his attention will be caught by something much more interesting than whatever is in front of his nose, and all his being will be focused on the new idea, the old forgotten as though it had never been. If he can be kept properly engaged, however, his ability to quickly pick things up begins to show through, and he can learn new things at a tremendous rate.

Regardless of whether or not he’s just let himself get distracted away from something he needed to focus on, the odds are good that Wahokinth is having a good day. He isn’t bothered by much, and maintains a persistent, steady optimism that no matter what goes wrong, things will work out for the best just as long as you work hard enough. Certainly, he’ll be disappointed when things don’t go his way, but there’s always something to be learned in every experience, and it can’t all be terrible for long; things will get better. He’ll become a better flyer, a better fighter, and he’ll do it because of everything he’s learning now.

Unfortunately, he can never resist a chance to show off what he’s learned, though usually this takes the form of competing with his twin specifically, as she’s the one Clutchmate he regards as a true rival. If he cannot best her, then there will be no meaning in besting everyone else, and so he can often be found seeking her out and trying to engage her in some manner of competition, a habit that is up to his rider to rein in to more manageable levels. This is especially necessary in Wahokinth’s case because he does not tend to think before he suggests something or accepts a challenge.

Positive Traits: Clever, optimistic, playful
Negative Traits: Competitive, impulsive, distractible
Size: 26’
Physical Attributes: Somewhat shorter in length and stockier than your average blue, Wahokinth makes up for it with larger-than-average wings and particularly powerful shoulders, accompanied by noticeably long tail.. He also sports a rather delicate head and neck, the latter more graceful than might be expected with such a stocky body.
Additional Notes: While he’s only of average speed, Wahokinth boasts a bit more maneuverability than most blues, along with above-average stamina. All-in-all, he’ll perform well during flights, but it will be up to his rider to keep him focused and on track.

When it comes to flights, he’s competitive against other challengers, but doesn’t appear to have any preference in who he chases, as he’s far more interested in outdoing everyone he can than in his quarry. To that end, he’s not the sort who will be victorious often, but neither is he overly bothered by failure. So long as he’s met his own standards, Wahokinth is satisfied.

He shares a particularly close relationship with his twin sister Uvaldoth, though their definition of close manifests as a rivalry wherein they are constantly challenging one another and trying to outdo the other, helping each reach new heights (and have a lot of fun) while doing so.

In contrast to Uvaldoth, Wahokinth insists it was him that pushed through their eggshell first.
Why Me: Wahokinth, above everything else, wanted a partner in crime. He’s found it in Kaniel, who is playful and adventurous enough to match him, who goes through life with a certain level of nonchalance that makes things roll off of him, whose cockiness and confidence means he won’t back down or try to hold Wahokinth back from what he can do--- but he was also drawn to His because of the way he sees the world, takes note of everything around him, and finds that he feels safe with someone as alert as Kaniel.

Kaniel seeks adventure, seeks something more than a quiet, mundane life, and Wahokinth can give him that excitement. With a dragon as competitive and impulsive as Wahokinth, there will never be a dull moment, and provided Kaniel can keep up with him, his life is slated to be eternally interesting.

(That his twin Impressed to His’ sister is a mere coincidence, but Wahokinth believes it to be the only option there ever was--- and maybe that’s true.)

Would you be willing to change the color to match a twin? i.e. If you tried for the green but we needed a blue? Or vice-versa? Yes

Other Note: Kaniel/K’niel and Wahokinth were written with Kitsune Mistress Nyoko’s Niselle and Uvaldoth entry. In the event that this entry is chosen and hers is not, I’ll tweak things to remove all reference to them.

Let's Paint!

Name: S’else [ Sangelse ]
Age: 22
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: -

Physical Description: S’else is a scraggy pole whose willowy appearance suggests he could be blown over by even the mildest of breezes. That isn’t true of course, as he has lean muscle in his arms and legs, allowing him to accomplish physical tasks with about as much difficulty as the average person. S’else prefers darker clothes (as they hide dirt better) and will wear anything and everything that is comfortable. He’s not overly picky on fashion so long as he looks neat. Thankfully he’s about done growing and sits at a comfortable mid-height, just a little over six feet tall, giving him ample options from the Weyr’s storerooms.

His jet-black hair is long, down to his hips when loose, and always worn in a high ponytail. It’s not uncommon to see him use some brightly colored ribbon to tie it off in a nice bow. What bangs he doesn’t tie back frame a heart-shaped face, and hide a mole that sits over his right eyebrow. S’else considers himself handsome, despite slightly rabbit-like front teeth and a bit of a snaggletooth that doesn’t distract from how adorable and heart-melting his smiles tend to be—he smiles often, and with his entire face, leading to him already having laugh lines.

Personality: It’s okay if you take S’else for a fool, really. It’s what he would want you to do, because he would rather be accepted as foolish than rejected outright. He’s not afraid to take the blame for things he didn’t do if it helps someone else out, and he’s not really above stepping into situations that clearly are uncomfortable for others. It’s not that his skin is ridiculously thick, or his poker-face is strong, but more like he wants to be liked and appreciated by others. There’s a base greed and an internal motive to his smiles and friendliness, as S’else knows what it's like to be openly hated for reasons far out of his control. That quiet knowledge and fear has him going out of his way to make people laugh, to make them look at him, and though he smiles bright and wide and often it’s hard to tell where the actual smile begins and the fake one ends. Of course, S’else isn’t entirely selfish, as he does know how to truly smile, and he does have real friends, or at least those he knows he can count on. There will always be a dread in the back of his mind, however, that one day his mask might slip and he’ll be laid bare in front of everyone for who he is; the idea that the person he really has become might not be enough will haunt him.

From a young age, S’else has had problems remembering what he’s said and done to others… but not what they’ve done to him. Offhand comments in the past that have offended others are forgotten within the day; names and faces of those who he’s upset (and whose attention he doesn’t care for) are erased entirely from memory. Kindness he’s shown or given also falls into this selective memory loss, so it’s not at all uncommon to approach S’else and find him completely unaware of charity he’s done in the past. Even reminding him will have him adamentaly dismiss the notion, and pressing further on it will cause S’else to become flustered and even slightly hostile—if he says he doesn’t remember, it’s better to just drop the subject and move on. Conversely, folks don’t need to worry about him forgetting even the most minor slight against him or those he loves. S’else can carry a grudge to terrifying levels, and his revenge might not always be subtle. He can easily be made to feel awful if his forgetfulness brings any sort of harm or emotional distress to those he values, and subtle jabs over just how awful his ability to retain things will always leave him bruised and remorseful.

S’else is also talented and is fully aware of just how talented he is. He’s not ashamed of his skills, or how things seem to come to him more naturally than others, and he’s also not above making sure his peers (and adults) know exactly what he is capable of. To say he is arrogant and cocky would be a massive understatement as he eagerly shows off and flaunts his talents whenever the chance arises though in the same breath he is more than willing to acknowledge the works of others. People who are more skilled than him are heaped with praise, provided he actually likes them; those who are talented but generally disliked are often targets of S’else attempting to out do them. The reasoning behind his open arrogance falls again into his need to be accepted, his need to be liked for what he can do and not thing he hasn’t done. It’s also not in his nature to act modest as S’else knows that pressed or forced modesty can be just as toxic to others; no one can be happy when someone truly talented belittles their own skills in an effort to boost a stranger's self-esteem. S’else also does practice and, while a lot of his ability comes from natural luck, he was also openly blessed with time and opportunity in his youth.

Positive Trait List Mood-maker, generous, outgoing, charming, talented
Negative Trait List Fake, selective memory, vindictive, needy, arrogant

History: S’else’s parents died when he was young, leaving him to be taken in by his father’s best friend. Raised in a minor cothold among the couple’s two children, S’else grew up precocious and mischievous. He adored his ‘older sister’ and ‘younger brother’ with unabashed affections, lavishing as much attention upon them as he could while himself weathering the disfavor of his foster mother. She was a kind but harsh woman, clearly favoring her own children and despising the very idea of S’else; the rumors that he was perhaps an illegitimate son of her husband did nothing to temper that anger. He was not, of course, though that cloud of suspicion would haunt him through his early childhood into his more formative Turns.

Granted ample opportunities due to the minor influence and wealth afforded to him by his foster family, S’else flourished. He proved bright, able, and more than willing to do whatever it took to ensure the happiness of his family and friends; occasionally the price for his actions was too high and he often wrote balances his body could not pay, but such was the cost of growing up and living. Childhood adventures and misdeeds were laughed off and turned to cherished memories, while painful lessons and treatments turned to scars hidden beneath dark clothing and forced smiles.
The Turns continued to pass relatively uneventfully for S’else, as he wasn’t an heir or anyone worth fussing over. There was no need for him to learn a craft, or learn anything about responsibilities, and so he entered his later teens with no real goal in mind. The return of Thread didn’t change that notion at all, even as it took the lives of his foster parents, and S’else’s promise to become a support his brother only grew stronger.

And then S’else was searched.

He had every reason to say no, to keep his promise, but there was the thrill of adventure that he always loved calling. Going to the Weyr was an entirely new experience, a chance to show off his skills and be challenged, but it also meant leaving his foster siblings behind. He would have to break the promise he’d made so long ago.

S’else made his choice, looking towards the bigger picture, and left for High Reaches.

He had forgotten his vow.

His arrival at the Weyr was hurried and exciting, full of new sights and ideas that someone raised in a cothold could never imagine. S’else balked at the lessons that were taught, preferring to go his own way, though the idea of punishment and the need to fit in among the others who huddled together was more than enough to keep his tongue down. He would need to obey and not bring trouble, not bring shame back to a figure whose face he sometimes saw when disappointment was lashed at him.

When the early dawn of the hatching arrived, S’else greeted it with anticipation. For every dragon that hatched it would bring a smile, for every Impression that happened the smile got bigger. Eventually he didn’t know when he properly stopped smiling, though it might have been as the final dragonets moved about on the sands; it was all well and good as his cheeks had started to hurt and there’d been some serious maulings. Listlessly moving from point to point, it was only when S’else became away of something, someone, behind him that he turned to look.

A blue dragon stood there, looking at him with a head half-tilted. The eyes were red, curious, and the young man opted to take a step back. The dragonet took a step forward, then one more, matching pace with a person who had no idea what this strange dance was. Did he need to get out of his way? Was he in his path to get somewhere?

No. came the reply, soft and calm. I am on your path now. The blue moved forward again, his steps measured and careful. Come. A warm muzzle was placed in his hand and a reassuring weight touched his knees. Rainbow eyes looked up at him like a punch in the gut, wiping away the awkward that had carefully been copied and pasted the entire time.

He was S’else’s Eveovaheth, and S’else would never need to fear his dropping mask again. Or, at least not as much.

Other:

DRAGON
Name: Eheovaheth
Origin of Name: The very first horse to become the APHA champion was a red dun Paint stallion named Yellow Mount. Recorded in history for his championship wins, striking looks, and successful champion offspring, Yellow Mount became known as "The Face of the Breed" and thus is commonly shown representing the American Paint horse in postcards, paintings, and collectable figurines. His image is even used on the official American Paint Horse Association logo.

It is believed that one of the first Indigenous Peoples tribes in North America to start to domesticate and use the horses brought over by the Spainards were the Cheyenne, as reported by French Traders in as early as 1745. Their use and cultivation of many of the spotted breeds has led to the modern day Paint, so it is fitting to pay homage. The Cheyenne word for yellow is heóve, though more specifically eheóvahe for living things. It is from this word, and Yellow Mount, that this dragon has earned his name.

Color: Blue

Inspiration: There are many different interpretations of how the American Paint Horse came to be, but the accepted understanding is the breed is descended from various horses brought over to the Americas by Spanish explorers. Eventual breeding with Thoroughbred and Quarter Horses have lead to the more modern version of the Paint.

Personality Eheovaheth is what many common folk might consider to be an ideal dragon, regardless of his color. Loyal and dedicated, talented and skilled in both action and deed, he could be considered a model that other dragons would look to for inspiration… if there were more to him than just that. Particularly bland in personality, Eheovaheth has more in common with a stump than with more active, chattering dragons; were it not for the fact that he does actively communicate when spoken to no one could be blamed for believing him mute. He is like a calm and quiet pond of water, though everyone knows that water that sits without being stirred will eventually turn stagnant. He does have trouble with expressing himself, and when flustered Eheovaheth will actually become overwhelmed. Things on a personal or emotional level leave him baffled and uneasy; when he is pressed into embarrassment he often responds poorly and with an unnecessary outburst. Thankfully those outbursts are easily tempered down without violence, though he will simmer for a bit and likely try to openly avoid whomever or whatever caused the problem in the first place.

He does, however, not avoid those who would stray from the proper path in life. He doesn’t like those who cheat or lie to get ahead and he cannot tolerate individuals who would buck tradition. Eheovaheth is not a tradtionalist in more common sense of the word, as in he does not believe in following ranks nor colorist hierarchy; his idea of tradition extends more to properly fighting Thread, or following lessons passed down through history. “Shortcut” is not a word he would ever even dream of having in his vocabulary, and trying something new leaves him nothing short of baffled. If the rules are in place they must be for a reason, and Eheovaheth has no problems following them or even going out of his way to make sure others follow too. His is something of an enforcer, stepping in without hesitation when it looks as though anyone may step off the proper path. Naturally he has the proper respect for Golds, as is their due, but bronzes are not viewed with awe, wonder, or fear. They are all equal in the fight to protect Pern and no one will ever be above the law.

Most important about the blue is his unwavering faith. If Eheovaheth decides to believe in someone or something then it can be known without a doubt he will always support them. It is a blind devotion than can cause him problems in the future, were he to place his trust in the wrong person or dragon, as there is a level of stubbornness that he won’t remove unless his core beliefs are shaken beyond repair. His family and friends will always have a silent and steadfast ally in their corner...until they break a rule, of course. Eheovaheth will always want to believe that those around him will do the right thing, and if they stray he will help bring them back. No one will be left behind.

Eheovaheth does have a weakness, one that is he is careful to hide, and that is his love of small and cute animals. It won’t be uncommon to see him around or near baby animals, and firelizards are more than welcome to roost on him or at his side. The love however does not extend to human children, or to smaller greens and whites, as they are more than capable of flustering him. That isn’t to say he hates them but rather he is unsure of how to properly interact and therefore he tries to not have contact without his rider nearby. Eheovaheth’s weak conversation skills make it difficult to properly interact with anyone who may want to have a long talk, and Faranth forbid anyone cries.

Pros: Rule-abiding, devoted
Cons: Bland, poor conversationalist

Size: 32’

Physical Attributes: Quite large for a blue, Eheovaheth’s size is well balanced with his propositions. He will never be overly muscled nor ridiculously thin, instead looking elegant and refined. He is an attractive blue who carries himself with grace and nobility, and it’s rare to see any color other than a calm blue in his eyes.

Additional Notes: Eheovaheth is particularly quiet for a dragon and it’s easy to think he isn’t thinking at all. Apart from his egg-twin, it will be very difficult for others to gauge how he’s really feeling at his more demure moments. Even his rider won’t be entirely sure of what’s going on unless the blue speaks on it, but there is an unspoken understanding that at the very least the dragon will always have his rider’s best interests at hearts.

Flights don’t interest Eheovaheth, or if they actually do he is slow to show it. He shows no verbal or physical desire to chase or be chased, and it’s not in his style to fawn over another dragon regardless of color.

Why Me: Eheovaheth sees you for who you are, S’else. You cannot lie to him nor laugh your way out of a situation, for he knows and accepts everything. There is no need to pretend and walk alone down a thorny path, not when Eheovaheth is at your side. The wide, well traveled path may more crowded, but it’ll be okay now that they’re together. S’else is the type to throw pebbles and kick up a fuss so Eheovaheth’s still waters will never be a problem. It doesn’t matter that the blue isn’t much of a talker since S’else will happily do the task, and together they need not fear conversation.

Whenever S’else feels like being lazy or trying to do something to his own merit, Eheovaheth will put him back in line. Having a free spirit and being proud of your skills is one thing, but ignoring the rules to have an easier time is another and won’t easily be forgiven. The pair may have their arguments from time to time over their opposing views on ends and means, but they will quickly come to an agreement before silence drowns them out.

Would you be willing to change the color to match a twin? i.e. If you tried for the green but we needed a blue? Or vice-versa? N

Haflingers Ahoy!

Name: Senara
Age: 26
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Picky heterosexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Weaver, specialising in fashion design and tailoring

Physical Description:
A willowy, lean young woman who stands at 5’6, Senara takes great pride in her appearance and will endeavour to be immaculately presented at all times. Creamy tan skin is unmarred- and she treats it liberally with oils and lotions at her leisure. Her figure is not especially curvaceous, and there is little suggestion of womanly charms beneath the beautiful dresses she dons. She is not muscular or strong in any sense, and becoming a fully-fledged rider will certainly present challenges in itself.

Thick waves of bark brown hair, when left loose, reach her shoulder blades; for the most part she has her hair pinned up in soft and dainty curls, sometimes threaded with flowers for a more stylish effect. A long, prominent nose and soft, rosebud lips give her an almost earth-Grecian look, though deep, sapphire blue eyes break the ancestral Mediterranean mould. She is skilled in the use of makeup, but prefers a light, natural look for herself.

Her dress sense is sophisticated and sensible for most occasions, though she does like to dress up for Gathers and other events. As a designer, she sees the people of the world first through the clothes that they wear, and has an eye for accessories that would be impractical in most careers and life paths. She herself prefers flowers, draping sashes, ribbons and lace. Her preferred colours are tones of blue and accents of white, but she’ll make do with earthy hues as well.

Personality:
A picture of serenity and grace, Senara puts a great deal of effort into looking like a lady, even if she is not of noble birth. She believes that first impressions are extremely important, and strives for perfection in all of her interactions. Her manners are beyond reproach, her opinions and discontent kept very much locked away for none than her diary to witness, and her tone and register are borrowed from folk far above her own station. Senara’s veins might run with commoner’s blood, but she has all the trappings of an earthen queen of legend: regal, eloquent, and aloof.

Beneath this facade of polite civility lies the heart and soul of a driven perfectionist, and a brilliant, creative mind to fuel such an inner critic. Senara has always loved a world filled with vibrant colour, and though she suppressed childish glee and silliness in favour of a mature and respectable demeanour, the sight of her poring over her work, sketching or pinning fabric, her frenzied inspiration grabbing her even in the middle of the night… well, it unveils a deeper, less stiff side of the woman. She prefers to work alone, unseen, and without fear of being judged by others, for it is when she is alone that she allows her guard to be lowered, and for her creativity to flow unhindered.

A very focused individual, Sen has an amazing ability to prioritise and achieve, driving herself to reach greater and greater heights with every accomplishment. She is extremely harsh on herself, but silently judges others as well. She values people who demonstrate strong work ethics, like her own, but will also inwardly criticise the care they show for their appearance. Well-dressed and well-groomed are likely to better impress her, and she is the type to take mental notes on those who put in effort. Grudges run deep and last long with her.

A polite conversationalist, Senara holds only a passing interest in people until they have proven themselves worthy of her friendship and trust, at which point she will offer them her loyalty in non-verbal ways. She values actions and gifts over words, and those who call her a friend will find themselves cared for and nurtured during their worst times, and encouraged during their best. She'll make trinkets for them, with a thoughtfulness belied by her originally aloof ways. Truly, Sen can be precious and dear, but her friendship is a hard-won thing.

Say nothing of her affection and love! She's very much a traditionalist in that respect, enjoying the ritual of courting and the thrill of the tease. Senara is the type of person to keep her feelings under lock and key, uncomfortable with letting her guard down except around those nearest and dearest. She can be stiff, but she has a passionate heart, and dreams (or dreamt) of starting a loving and warm family. One day, someday… Ah, how it would be grand.

Neat as a pin, rigorous, methodical and disciplined, Senara leaves nothing up to chance or fate: she is mindful of the choices that lay before her, and the actions she can take, and considers them all with great care. This reflects in her work, which is polished to a shine before being unveiled to the world. Alas, it does cause her to be a bit of a stick-in-the-mud, having lost her sense of joie-de-vivre in her hasty rush to maturity.

Positive Trait List: Conscientious, Eloquent, Creative
Negative Trait List: Perfectionist, Judgemental, No-nonsense

History:
Senara was born to two loving crafter based in Southern Boll: her father was a journeyman vintner, and her mother was a journeyman healer. They met through circumstances touching on his love for red wine and dancing, and their love has blossomed ever since. The eldest of four, Senara also has three sisters and a great sense of responsibility towards them.

She was old even when she was young, showing tendencies to want to micromanage her siblings to keep them out of danger. Whilst they played in the sun and had fun, she felt the lure to join them, but the inner voice of worry and coddling kept telling her to watch out, to be careful- and those were the words that escaped her mouth. She was the 'unfun' sister, the boring, rule-following one. She tried not to let it bother her, but Sen felt a disconnection from her sisters that all the familial affection could not seem to fix.

She did have a passion though- and talent, her mother had noticed. The young girl was drawn to the colours and fabrics of the Crafthall, spending spare time watching the weavers at their work. She encouraged her daughter to pursue it as a Craft when she came of age to apprentice; Sen was a smart girl, and had done well in lessons. She took to the Weavercraft with surprisingly overt gusto, spending candlemarks hidden away in her room after lessons working on her own skills and projects. Dedicated and tireless, she drew the eye of her peers.

At around fifteen Turns, her father grew very sick with a rarer illness. Her mother spent a great deal of time caring for him, researching treatments and symptoms for this mysterious ailment. It took him close to a Turn, but the man recovered enough to become mobile once more. He has since given up drinking. The scare brought the family closer together, and Senara threw herself into designing dresses for her sisters in her spare time. They each admired and adored her work, giving Sen a great deal of pride and sense of accomplishment that would feed her inner critic and spur her to greater heights.

She was promoted to journeyman at 18, showing excellent skill and knowledge, as well as a desire to refine her skills in tailoring and designing. She stayed on at Southern Boll Crafthall until 22, four Turns ago, when she received a posting for Western Hold. Though inwardly loathe to leave her family, Sen took the leap in the hopes of one day being able to establish her own business and have her name renowned across the western continent.

Thread fell, seemingly out of the blue, sewing chaos and devastation across Pern. Senara was safe, and sent a message to Southern Boll to ascertain her family's safety too: all had survived, though her mother and her youngest sister, who had become a healer as well, had their work cut out for them. Relieved, Senara did what she could within the capacity of her skill to help, though she never gave up on her dream.

At 25, she had finally earnt enough to acquire a small working studio of her own out of which to operate her business and take on clientele. Her fashion was popular both at Western and Rivercrest Holds, and she was certain it would only be a matter of time before every noble, minor or major, would clamour for one of 'Senara's dresses' in their wardrobe. The thought made her shiver with the most suppressed, gleeful anticipation.

It was one of these nobles who changed her life forever. The young Lady had been invited to attend a hatching at High Reaches Weyr, and demanded that Senara attend her to ensure her dress was immaculate. There was no guaranteeing when the eggs would hatch, but Sen agreed. When a courtesy rider woke her in the dead hours of the night at the Lady's request, Sen roused herself, got ready, and attended the spectacular but poorly-timed event.

Of course, she knew about hatchings. Faranth knew she had learnt her harper ballads inside-out. But this… This was… Intense. A whole different kind of world lay beyond the colours of her realm, and she sat transfixed as brother spilled brother's blood, as dragons danced or pranced or cried, as the golden mother and her bronze mate cuddled and cared for their young…

Seeeennnn! SenaraMineeeee! My brothers are ignoring meeeee. Why are you ignoring me too? A shrill, high-pitched voice started in her head, and the young woman jumped in her seat, looking about as though she had gone mad.

"Oh no. Oh no."

"What's wrong, dear?" The Lady beside her asked, a faint smile curving her lips.

Sennnnn. Oh no Sen! Why won't you come down to me? I'm so hungry, I'm wasting away.

Senara stood. That voice, so full of pity and need, tugged at her heart. There was no way she could abandon such a dear, dear soul. "I'm coming dear. I'm coming. Just hold tight!"

And dressed in blue with sashes of white, she rushed past the nobles she so desperately wanted to walk amongst, and vaulted towards her future, her duty, her love, tripping over herself as she scrambled towards the dainty green.

Oh, my beloved Senara… Your Asterath missed you so much. What if you had never come?

"Hush love, hush… I'm here, and I won't ever leave you." She stroked her sweet little head, reaching instinctively for the headknobs and eyeridges…

Oh shells.

She was a dragonrider now.

At High Reaches.

Asterath crooned. And we will be the best and prettiest around, my rider!

Other:
I left details about the noble she accompanied vague, in case that part of the story needed hashing out. I figured it would be okay for her to attend the hatching if she was the invited guest of an invited and/or important guest, and am more than happy to adjust this part of her background should she win and it is necessary.

DRAGON
Name: Asterath
Origin of Name:
The name Asterath is inspired by the flower genus asteraceae, to which belongs the edelweiss (Leontopodium nivale). The edelweiss is one of the brands used to mark Austrian and Italian Haflingers.

Haflingers originated in Austria and Northern Italy, where strict breeding programs are carried out and purebred pedigrees are expected to go back six generations. The edelweiss might then be considered a 'purebred' mark.

Color: Green

Inspiration:
Originally developed in Austria and northern Italy during the late 19th century, Haflinger horses have become exceedingly popular over the years, and have served many purposes. The breed’s ancestry may be traced back to the Middle Ages, and there are those who speculate they were designed for enduring mountainous terrain thanks to their hardy nature.

Like humans, they were at the mercy of the cruel conditions of war, and suffered a great deal in more contemporary times. By 1946, focus was renewed on creating a purebred standard to which to adhere. Declining population numbers have since recovered thanks to human care.

The Haflinger horse is also used extensively in all manners of competitions, including dressage, show jumping and vaulting. They also make good horses for therapeutic riding programs: typically the Haflinger is amenable, sweet-tempered and quiet. They tend towards the smaller size of the horse range, standing between 13.2 and 15.0 hands.

Asterath takes inspiration from many qualities of the Haflinger: their sweetness and gentleness, their fastidious breeding and pedigree (in her desire to be perfect), and her more fickle, temperamental tendencies through the mishandling of her inspiration’s breed. She carries a sense of adventure deep in her bones, mingled with her joie-de-vivre: a throwback to the mountaineering days of the more military-focused Haflingers.

Personality
A beautiful ray of sunshine: that's what Asterath would have you believe she is. She practically oozes charm, her bubbly joie-de-vivre sure to endear and impress any who might gaze upon her. She expects to be a dragon who is remembered: first impressions are ever so important, after all, and she has to be her best self. Her enthusiasm for life is practically contagious, and Asterath is likely to walk with a bounce in her step, or a twirl in her wings.

Unless, of course, she feels like she's been slighted. Then the heavens come crashing down. Feelings, and hearts, are hurt. Asterath cries about anything and over everything, especially if she can't get her own way. She expects others to bend over backwards for her, and has an instinctive grasp of how to use her sweetness in such a way as to wrap them around her little talon. She's showy and pretty and oh-so vivacious, so that others do not see just how needy she truly is. She has one focus in life, and that is herself (her dear rider, of course, shares her hearts- so naturally she is a very, very close second).

Tantrums, as a dragon amongst many others, are not a good look. As she matures, her parade of emotions becomes more calculated, and though she'll always feel comfortable crying to her rider, Asterath will rely on her friends to support her and feed her the attention she so desperately craves. Social bonds are very important to her, and she thrives on praise and admiration from others. This green loves her family, but will also seek to branch out, forging connections across the dragon wings and caring little for colour-traditionalism. She knows she's the best, after all…

She is a smart dragon, but easily bored by the repetition of lessons. Asterath will require strict discipline to graduate, but will perform her duties well in Threadfall if her energy and love for life is harnessed at a young age. Both rider and dragonet must quickly come to terms with the rigors of dragonriding life, lest they fail in their duties (which neither of them want- because shame and disappointing others is about the worst thing they could imagine happening).

Though self-absorbed, Asterath is not tactless. She has a caring word for anyone who would turn to lean upon her shoulder. In fact, she loves being needed. There’s no greater feeling than being the moon and stars for someone else, right? She idolises her twin and parents, raising them on pedestals from which they can never fall; the rest of dragonkind will unfortunately never live up to their shadows. Those who do try to impress her and win her over may have good luck with acrobatic tricks or feats of agility.

As one who never tires of life, Asterath will often invent games or go out chasing VTOLS or picking flowers during leisure or rest. This energy is very genuine and sincere, and though her sweetness may be positively saccharine, it comes from a real place of love and warmth. Yes, of course she wants everybody’s attention, and wants to bask in the spotlight… but sometimes she just wants to fly off into the distance, scoping out the mountains with her rider in search of that rare last spring flower!

Positive Trait List: Enthusiastic, Clever, Bubbly
Negative Trait List: Overdramatic, Needy, Self-absorbed

Size: 19’

Physical Attributes:
Delicate and dainty, Asterath is a small and graceful green who will never have much stamina, even for one of her colour, but plenty of speed instead. She is well proportioned.

Additional Notes:
Fickle and choosy, Asterath will enjoy playing games with her suitors- be it in spurring them to competitions of strength or speed, or by making them do ridiculous tasks prior to her Flights. She is a frequent riser, and will never truly settle down.

Her flame is an average length, but she cannot sustain it for long. She is a speedy and graceful flier, easily able to turn on a dime. However, Asterath may struggle to last even the half-Fall expected of her size and build.

This dragon has a love for joyflights and flowers, and her penchant for adventure sees her exploring in search of the new, prettiest thing she can collect.

Why Me:
In Senara, Asterath saw a kindred soul: someone who loved life for the simple joys of its beauty, who yearned for a more colourful world. Plus it helped that she was so pretty in comparison to all those drab candidates in their white robes, yes… Senara was a picture of perfection, a living, breathing Lady without the title, and Asterath, well… she knows, deep down, that she is no queen. That she will never rise to power. Perhaps that is why she cries so much?

But Senara understands her and her mercurial ways. And in turn, Asterath has broken down the walls of her old world, inviting her into a brand new life filled with experiences that she would never even have dreamt of in her wildest days. Senara has never had a wild day, and it’s about time she learned how to live; Asterath plans to help remove that stick up her butt one way or another. Together, she is certain they will have a positively magnificent experience. How could it be anything else?

They complement each other well. Senara is focused, a true perfectionist and proud of her work; whereas Asterath requires micromanagement and firm handling to rein in and keep in check. In the good and the bad times, they will comfort and soothe each other without allowing Asterath’s overdramatic tendencies to get the better of her, or for Senara’s aloof, reserved ways to pull her back from opening her heart to others.

They understand the need for good appearances. They also understand their place, and remain ever dutiful to the Weyr, even if they are, at first, an inept pair. With proper training and guidance, Senara and Asterath will come into their own, sure to make the Weyr proud in their own, especially affectionate way.
