Lunathor

Well, so far so... that.

Lunathor flexed his fingers as he stepped away from the Heart egg, that one hadn't liked him very much at all and while the other two he'd met so far - Babbling and Leaping - had been very friendly they'd both been a little much, one too bubbly and the other... he wasn't sure, but he didn't feel as though he'd made a close connection there.

Biting his lip slightly Lunathor cast around the clutch before settling on the Homely egg. Once he stood beside it he crouched and reached out slowly to place a hand on the brown shell. Um. Hello. How are you today? Part of him still wondered if he should even really be here but he tried to push that down; Raith had wanted him to be here, and he wanted to be here too, and surely that was all that mattered?

Siv

Oh yes, this was all very good, she was quite pleased Hoarding followed, and the young woman shifted to move on, examining the clutch analytically. So the outlier was something of a thinker -- Siv was most excited already by that -- and the thought of more to meet was pleasing, the candidate examining each egg in turn. Finally, she decided to check on the Prowling egg. This one seemed intriguing to the young woman -- the quiet was concerning, but, Listutoth would surely know if aught was amiss, and so she gently rest a hand on Prowling's shell, expression analytical.

Well now, you're an interesting little one, aren't you?

Lunathor

Homely was feeling much more awake by the time Lunathor's hand came to rest on their shell. Well, hello there, lovely. They were doing wonderfully, how about- The mind inside the egg stuttered as they reached further into Lunathor's mind.

The pain in the young man seemed so vast, and so deep. Homely was quiet for a moment as they looked at the wealth of damage in the still young mind. Oh, sweet one. With seemingly no difficulty at all, the mind swept past Lunathor's jagged edges to wrap him up in their warmth. Homely gave freely to the candidate, pouring support and comfort upon him. They looked at the memories of Raith without fear or judgement. Sensing the overwhelming love and sadness that both came with the memories. Homely was young, they were lucky to have never experienced loss, but they could feel the wounds it had left on Lunathor's still young mind.

Beneath Lunathor's fingers, the egg seemed to gently vibrate. The sensation of someone gently stroking his hair and holding him close almost physically tangible. The vibrations took on an almost rhythmic quality, seeming to ebb and flow with Homely's thoughts. A few more moments and the intention was clear. Homely was humming. Not the kind of hum that heralded a hatching. A gentle and comforting hum, an effort to bring peace to the candidate. Homely was ready to provide for Lunathor for as long as he needed them.

Heart

Oh absolutely. Not just born for it either. Telleara had spent her entire life learning the skills necessary to lead. There was no room for alternatives as far as she was concerned. Telleara would lead.

Telleara's hand shifted in almost a caress as the egg continued. Fortitude and bravery, both necessary qualities. Of course Telleara had them. She was here, wasn't she? Sticking out this candidacy. So long as there was a goal at the end she could be patient and keep taking that next step to where she needed to be. Where she deserved to be.

But what about Heart? The young woman was being assessed, why not the dragon? They had confidence, determination, that much was clear. They certainly seemed to be fit for the part, but did they have more than that? Did they have the brains for it. One needed a sharp mind to get to the top and stay there. Did they have that too? Were they really the whole package?

Leaping

A slight laugh escaped Kiliran before he quickly smothered it with the hand not touching Leaping. The energy gave him the mental image of an excited canine running up and eager to play. The emotions and communication was so vivid. It was such a bizarre sensation, but he couldn't deny that it was wonderful. To have someone else project their energy and passion onto him was fascinating.

He looked around when the egg asked what it was like. Well, before he got to Leaping, it wasn't all that interesting. He tried to focus on what he could see. The cavern, the sands, and the other candidates milling about. It wasn't nearly as interesting as meeting Leaping was turning out to be. Although maybe that was the interesting part. All these minds mixing and nobody could see them.

At the idea of a kick Kiliran smiled and shook his head. No way. He wasn't going to fall for that one. Leaping's mother was right there. He was almost certain that Lithustoth would actually eat him if he kicked her egg. No matter if he said it was an accident, he'd be out of the Weyr faster than he'd gotten here. Nice try though.

Gwyn

At first, there was nothing. Well, that was odd. Even amongst the previous double clutch, there had been... Suddenly, her thoughts were overshadowed by a startling sense of presence, that seemed to swoop out of nowhere. The only thing that stopped her from pulling completely away was the fact that there was no malice behind it. Besides, only the initial contact had been overwhelming. Ah, so this one was looking for someone with purpose, huh? Well, that was a plus! Her purpose for now was simply to help in what way she could, and to be ready when Thread returned. She had no doubts that, when the time came, the occupant of this egg would be ready to strike at the ancient foe.

With a mental wordless thanks, Gwyn went on to the next egg.

This time, she stopped before the Sun's Ray Egg. Admiring the lovely pattern of the shell, she placed a hand right on the sunbeam design and waited.

----------

Avali

Oh, this one was nice! She'd chosen the right one to see first! Comforted, the girl rested her cheek against the warm shell, silently thanking it for the kindness. She knew this one had a lovely heart, regardless of what the shell showed.

She would have stayed with that egg as long as they were on the Sands, but others would surely want to greet this beautiful mind. With a sigh, she let her fingers trail along the shell as she moved on. What one should she see next? Heartened by her previous attempt, she stopped by the Basking Egg. Carefully touching the shell, she wondered if her shoes would melt from the heat underfoot...

Siv

At first the only impression Siv would receive from the egg was one of being watched, and a rather aloof feeling radiating out from the shell. After a few moments of stillness the egg relents, but only enough to send Siv a feeling of query - what is it that she finds interesting about it? Or is that something she would say to any egg just trying to curry favour with it, or perhaps just to be nice?

The_Muffin_Puppy
Telleara

Telleara's answer seemed to satisfy Heart and it sent her a feeling of magnanimous approval - talent would take you so far but only the truly dedicated would rise to the top in the end.

Heart did not seem to have expected to be quizzed in return, and for a moment there was a flicker of affront that Telleara might doubt its fine qualities, clearly the eggs was completely confident that it had more than sufficient skill in every area it would require on the path ahead of it. It was meant to be, destiny, but if the world did not see that when it broke out of its shell it would change that in short order - it understood in a vague sense that there was a lot going on in the world right now, and surely that was why it was here? It was meant to lead the world back onto a good course.

The_Muffin_Puppy
Kiliran

Oh, boo! Well, never-mind, truth be told Leaping hadn't really expected any other answer and Kiliran's images of the cave were the most exciting thing it had ever experienced so it wasn't going to complain! So many figures, all coming to meet it and its siblings, and surely one amongst them was the one it was meant to find soon and share its life with! Wasn't that a wonderful thought? Surely Kiliran is excited for that day too? What did he think his dragon might be like? Leaping gave his mind an encouraging nudge and the presence within the shell shifted slightly. Leaping doesn't know what its rider will be like yet but this day is meant to give it an idea, it feels as though they have waited forever for it to come.

Ryala
Gwyn

Welcome dear one, how are you faring so far? Sun's Ray reaches out to Gwynwwyn with the warmth and gentleness of its namesake, and although it seems a touch wary of the sharper edges of her personality its welcome is genuine nevertheless. Who has she visited with so far? Sun's Ray does apologise if any of them have been rude, some of them are unfortunately lacking in refinement - dear things but without any sense of propriety.

Ryala
Avali

The presence of the Basking Egg seems to uncoil and stretch as Avali reaches out to it, and as it wraps itself around her thoughts a sensation of keen intelligence flows out from it. Welcome little healer, it is good that she came to see Basking - it can offer advice if she will take it, or it would be content simply to listen to her thoughts. They are both here today to learn, to give and take, to get to know one another, to prepare for the day that Basking and its siblings would break free of their shells. Does Avali feel ready for that? Basking can tell that her first meeting with an egg went well, a good start does go a long way.

Siv

So it was an observer. Siv noted this immediately -- some eggs were actually nigh-silent, but perfectly fine, and she decided she might well answer the egg's query patiently.

I study things to learn about them. In this instance, things that seem different are interesting because it provdes new information on how things go. She explained plainly, and hummed. Nice was probably second, only because right now she was feeling particularly work-aholicy. Damn but she wanted her notepad, and some klah to do late night theories now. Alas, none of it was doable for the time being, and the candidate gave the egg a gentle pat. Dragons chose as they would, and this one seemed to be studying candidates as much as she studied the eggs, leaving her to look around. While the eggs all seemed quite enticing, she decided to see about some baseline work -- no sensecontinuing without seeking her control eggs, and she moved on slowly, approaching the Nasking Egg[/n] patiently nrgptr [;svomh s jsmf i[pmoy/ Npw, what would this egg do?

Gwyn

A small, lopsided smile graced Gwyn's lips at the warm welcome. It seemed a bit hesitant to get too close to her, though, a fact she noted. Still, this one certainly seemed well mannered, and that was always a plus! It seemed curious to know which of it's brethren she had seen, so she allowed herself to mentally review her impressions of the Hoarding and Apex eggs. And while Apex had been a bit startling at first, it wasn't really rude. Still, Sun's Ray was clearly considerate, and she thanked it for it's warmth before moving on.

The Heart Egg was her next destination. It didn't escape her notice that one girl who had gone strait to this egg was still there. Still, there was plenty of room for her to greet this wonderful egg's occupant. Pausing for a moment to admire the play of light on the curve of the charming shell, Gwyn placed her hand on the egg, wondering what sort of reception she might receive.

----------

Avali

Oh, a bright mind seemed to be within this egg! It seemed to welcome her, though rather than just offer comfort it seemed to be interested in learning, and possibly offer advice. She was definitely starting to feel a little less nervous and more excited to see the Hatching! To actually meet the dragons in these eggs, and see if they were anything like how they portrayed themselves now, would be enlightening!

Again, she allowed her fingers to trail along the top of the egg as she slipped away.

She was definitely feeling better about this! So far, there had been no negative reactions. Perhaps... yes, she believed that she would. It was time to dare, and try one one of the larger eggs. And that very lovely Sun's Ray shone like a beacon to her. Weaving her way past other eggs and Candidates, she found herself looking at the clearly larger shell with hope. Caressing the shell where the "light" seemed to be brightest, she waited to see what the reaction might be.

Siv

Ahh, hello clever-one!

Basking coils around Siv's mind with interest and a sense of kinship. She studies? How go those so far? Unhatched as it is Basking doesn't seem to be able to fully conceptualise what it is that she's about but it is curious, and the idea of study and analysis seem to resonate with parts of itself that are well formed but not yet fully understood by the egg.

Ryala
Gwyn

Ahh, welcome, how lovely to meet another candidate.

Heart's shell seems to warm a little under Gwyn's hand as it reaches out to draw her closer to it, allowing her to study it's strength and glory as much as she might wish to. A serious one, is she? And is she serious about her future? Heart will rise above the rest and it requires a bondmate who is equal to the task of keeping pace with it, does she believe she could be such a partner?

Ryala
Avali

As Avali's hand alights on the shell warmth reaches out, suffusing her palm and then spreading through her arm, her chest, until it fills up her whole being. For a few moments Sun's Ray studies her in gentle silence before seeming to reach a conclusion and pressing a little closer, radiating warmth and reassurance. Why does she think so little of herself? Sun's Ray sees a good heart within her, a thoughtful and considerate soul. The messiness... well nobody is perfect - the presence of the egg shifts a little - and Sun's Ray is sure that her dragon could help her with that should she wish it. What is important however is that Sun's Ray believes in her, she is more than worthy of being here today.

Siv

Aaaahhhh, good, this egg understood as well, she was well surprised -- pleasantly so,and the candidate was all too happy to respond. Yes, her studies went quite well, and she was learning plenty, including now. But was the egg learning too? Siv considered a moment before excitement took hold. What if anything was it learning? What was going on in that young mind? Siv wanted to know!

Kakar was only slighhtly reassured by Hoarding's ideas, Sending a silent 'thank you' he left the egg, hoping it's plans didn't go dung up. He decided to go in the order the eggs were and next touched the Apex Egg, holding his hand to it's quiet shell, throwing himself backwards as the mind within seemed to rush at him, thankfully he had kept his hand on it, the sudden-ness enough to snap him out of his moping thoughts, at least for the moment "Eager aren't you?" he said quietly.

Siv

Many things, many things are going on. More hands on its shell give it more thoughts to draw from, more perspectives to understand the world outside its shell? Or so is the feeling Siv gets from the egg, though the feeling is tinged with uncertainty - there is no fear along with that feeling, just the knowledge that knowledge is lacking, and the knowledge that its knowledge will grow. One day it will leave this place, one day it will find what it lacks, what it needs to form itself fully.

Revel1984
Kakar

Yes.

Apex's intense mind grips Kakar's as it studies him keenly. Time is short, it must find the one who is meant to complete it - until it finds that it cannot rest or think too much on other matters. Some of its siblings turn themselves to abstract ideas, perhaps that works for them, but all Apex knows is that it must find the right hand. If it cannot find the one it needs, nothing else matters.

And Kakar? The Apex almost gives the impression of cocking its head on one side. Disappointed more than once in seeking his own match, yet here he is again. He is fortunate, Apex will only have one chance.

Kakar nodded, though the presence in the egg couldn't see it, he was sure it must have felt it. "I understand" he said, feeling unwanted again but determined. "Yours is among us i'm sure" he added, before moving away, not lingering too long "I hope you find the right hand".

He left Apex quickly, not wanting to let thoughts of what could happen if the hatchling didn't find Their one match, leak to the egg. He saw one egg slightly odd to the side and reached out to touch the Burrrowing Egg He didn't really feel much to start with so he lingered, wondering who this egg was.

Sun's Ray

The young woman may as well have preened under the egg's approval. She very much liked this egg. Which was impressive, since most of them she viewed with a level of detached amusement rather than genuine affection. No, this one she actually managed to find herself hoping would hatch a gold so that she could keep her. Still that hope was silly, and Telleara swiftly put it out of her mind.

Heart's affront brought a fresh smile to her face. Sadly they would meet people who did question them. There were so many that just had trouble seeing when the best was in front of them. Heart would need to be ready to face the doubters with the same wonderful confidence that they had showed Telleara. She had no doubt that they would manage it wonderfully.

Another candidate approached the egg and Telleara felt a spark of annoyance. Couldn't they see she wasn't done here? Telleara wasn't a sharer. Certainly not with this one when she just felt like she was enjoying herself for the first time in what felt like forever. She gave the egg an affectionate caress. When they were out there making the world the way it should be, they needed to come find her. Telleara was sure their visions could interweave. For now though it seemed their time was over. Letting her long fingers slip from Heart's shell she moved away with head held high. Moving on to the second largest egg, she laid her hand against Sun's Ray. It would be a tough act to follow, but she still gave the egg a polite greeting.

TawnyAngel
Leaping

Kiliran smiled at the egg's enthusiastic response. Leaping was right, he should be more excited really. This was an amazing opportunity he had been afforded, he should act more like it. Kirilan was also certain that Leaping's chosen was among the candidates, any of them would be lucky to have a dragon who was so positive.

He hadn't really given thought to what his dragon would be like. Or rather could be like. There were so many more candidates than eggs, so there was always a chance he wouldn't impress. Really he was alright with that. So far Kiliran hadn't been at the Weyr very long. It was a big decision, to choose the kind of mind you wanted to be bound to for the rest of your life. Thinking about it that way Kirilan didn't envy the dragon's their decision. Wasn't that a lot of pressure to deal with? It sounded scary.
