When the humming started Kakar felt sick, he had wanted a dragon more than anything .... Back when he and Kakaw were supposed to impress at the same clutch .... before his twin had Impressed and left him behind, even if he Impressed this hatching... He sighed, deciding that he wouldn't go.. until a certain brown rider burst into his room. "You promised Caffieth" he said, frowning, practically reading his twin's mind. He saw the look on Kakar's face, put his hand on his shoulder and pulled him in for a hug, Kakar was stiff and didn't hug back. "Please don't hate me Kakar, everything will be fine when you Impress" he said, breaking off, clearing his throat and leaving.
Kakar blinked back tears behind his brother's retreating back. He remembered the happy look on K'kaw's brown's face when he'd promised to attend and he sighed hard, donning his robes and heading out to the hatching. He bowed to both clutch mothers and took his place, planning to stay absolutely still until it was over, he was so sure no dragon wanted him anymore, he was a broken half of a whole.
~~~~~~~
Serfie was hiding out in her den she'd made among the drudge's tunnels and had just started eating when she felt, rather than heard the humming. It was time. She'd been hiding, disguised as a drudge since the last hatching at the weyr, she'd missed out on the large gold hatching. She pulled up the hood on her drudge robe, tucked her meal into a pocket she'd sewn into the inner lining and headed out, hiding out behind the candidates, scooting out at the last minute to go sit in the shadows in front of the stands, she watched the eggs moving while she finished her food. No point in staying hungry for no reason.
~~~~~~~~~
Helane was practially vibrating the second the humming started, she dressed into her robes in record time, having to clamp her mouth shut so she didn't go booming her voice around. She twitched and bounced in place when she reached her place among the other candidates. She squealed a little when the Blue Tang egg moved, oh that was cute, what on Pern? .. Then one seemed to shudder but she wasn't sure, but another one did roll and crack, aaaah what? this was so exciting, she didn't realise it would be so exciting.

Zamistia watched as some of the eggs on both sides began to move. She was worried when blue tang began to roll, she could only hope that the dragon inside wouldn't get hurt. As the tail came out, she caught the brown color, least she thought it was brown. For all she knew it could have been bronze, she just didn't see the shimmer yet..maybe. As the baby cried for help, she wanted to do so, but didn't want to get in trouble. Thankfully, one of the other candidates managed to stop, allowing it to crack a bit more. Unfortunately, there was no more of the little dragon to be seen. She could only hope that it would manage, thought it was having a little trouble.

Despite the calm beginning to the hatching, not withstanding the comical tumbling of one of the eggs, D'lana was on edge. She hid it well, she'd been trained to do that since childhood, but calm appearances didn't erase her unease. Something in the atmosphere of the Weyr of late was...
There was nothing blatant she could point to but she had noticed little gaggles of riders, mainly of the larger colours, talking quietly and glancing at the Weyrleaders' table while she and W'dol ate. She didn't like it, not at all, but to raise it with anyone besides her fellow Weyrleader would look paranoid and that was the last thing she needed; 'Silly young woman spooked at shadows' was not a good look for a leader who wanted to be taken seriously.
She didn't want to think about that right now though, what she wanted to do was welcome six new healthy hatchlings into the world and so with a shift of her stance she shifted the worry too. The kitchens were in full swing preparing for a feast starting this time tomorrow; the hatchlings would need to rest and you couldn't roast a whole herdbeast on short notice anyway. Food, wine, celebration, and- Ah, was that rolling one a brown? D'lana smiled, leaned in to murmur to W'dol, and then settled back into just watching the hatching unfold.

People, so many people much too close to her eggs! Lithustoth shifted her wing slightly to better cover them and glared out across the sands, she couldn't wish the candidates away, her daughters' children needed them, but -
Hey, you! The green's presence slammed into Serfie's mind like a bolt of lightning, and her eyes blazed fiery orange as she turned her head to glower directly at the girl. You should not be there. You should not be eating on my daughters' Sands! Go to the Stands with the rest, or my rider will remove you from this place entirely. You will not like it if she does.
"What's that now?" V' looked through her dragon's eyes and- Wasn't that the girl who'd pretended to be a candidate before? Yep, it was, and now she was being everso smooth by sitting down having lunch on the edge of the sands. Say the word Lith and I'll shift her. Hopefully she'd move of her own accord after that telling off, but if not V' didn't mind a little scrap.

Sun Parakeet egg's shaking intensified. It began to wobble side-to-side with great ferocity, as if possessed by a sudden surge of energy. In the process knocked up against Toco Toucan, which cracked and slid over onto its side, lifeless. The bottom was riddled with many tiny cracks and a lacy laticework of the inner shell all along the edge. To anyone standing in just the right place, it would seem that the egg was entirely empty. Where on Pern was the hatchling?
Heimalth made no indication that anything was wrong. Instead she turned to look at her mother, who seemed to be speaking angrily to someone near the Sands. Clearly Lithustoth had the situation under control, though Heimalth's eyes flashed in alarm at the thought of some potential danger to the eggs. She made no comment.
More movement caught the pale Green's attention, as Scarlet Macaw began to rock up and down. Finally the hatchling inside pushed against the sides with all their might and the egg split wide open, like the jaw of some great monster opening up. Then the hatchling slipped on some goo inside the shell and the jaw slammed shut. The hatchling inside could have been dazed or simply tired as all movement inside ceased, for now. To anyone watching, the color of this tiny dragon was unmistakable: a handsome little Blue.

Meana's eyes grew larger when one of the greens suddenly turned to glare at something, or someone. Looking away from the scene, she tried to get a glimpse of what may have angered the dragon. Oh! There was someone over there, lurking on the sands! And clearly, they weren't supposed to be there, or the green would not have been so upset.
Inching over, the girl made a little extra room beside her, so whoever it was could hopefully slip into the vacant seat.
----------
Cyrilla was getting upset. This was taking too long, with no results. The clumsy brown was still hiding in his egg, the one big egg had revealed a blue before closing again, and another egg seemed to be dead. That was half of the eggs!
Where was her prize?

When the Toco Toucan egg was knocked over, Gwyn gasped. Wait... was the egg... empty?! But the shell hadn't so much as twitched! Where could the dragonet have gone? Was it ok?
As her eyes flicked around, searching for any hint of the missing hatchling, she caught sight of the Scarlet Macaw egg, opened along the side like a great gaping maw. Within, an amazing blue dragon caught her attention, before the shell slid shut once more, blocking him from view.
The Blue Tang egg didn't seem to need any further help from her for the moment.
And the occupant of the Toco Toucan egg was nowhere to be seen.
With a concerned look, she glanced at Heimalth. The green didn't seem to be showing any worry about the egg, though something else seemed to be amiss. But if she wasn't fretting over what may have happened to the egg, then perhaps the hatchling was ok. If only she knew where it had hidden...
A sound from another egg drew her attention. Looking over, all she saw was a whirl of orange as the dragon within surveyed what lay beyond their shell for the first time. She offered it a lopsided smile. If she could do nothing else, she could at least try to greet one of the hatchlings with a friendly grin. Perhaps it would appreciate that.
