Her last clutch had definitely been easier. More eggs had been rather expected of her now that she was full grown, had flown for much longer, and had taken a bronze as one of her mates (technically her only mate V' said, but Lithustoth counted Lerenth as important to the clutch as Amaryssoth) but she had not expected to grow as large, unwieldy, and uncomfortable as she had. Then there had been the fact that she couldn't prepare the Sands as Oximath and Heimalth needed them for their own hardening clutches - an itch unscratched, that would remain so until around two weeks before she'd been due to clutch.

Except it hadn't quite happened like that.

Most of those two predicted sevendays had passed without a peep from the eggs and people had started to Talk. A few days before Lithustoth had been due to clutch her own eggs her daughters' remained on the Sands and... Well there was no denying nature's schedule. V' had joked with her about how they were both always in a rush as she laboured, it took far longer than it had last time and she struggled with the largest of her eggs but when at last it was over she had a clutch to be proud of - eleven beautiful eggs. Still unable to arrange them as she liked she had retreated to a corner of the sands and curled around her clutch to hide them from any curious candidates who might decide to wander over in the last days before her daughters' clutches broke shell - and she never doubted that they would no matter what anyone else said, her line was strong and the eggs' minds were strong, they just needed time.

The hatching, when it did arrive, was the most stressful thing she had ever endured and the sooner she forgot about it the happier she would be. She was happy for her daughters, and for the new hatchlings with their new bondmates, she just wished it hadn't all played out so fekking close to her eggs. She was also very happy when, as soon as Oximath and Heimalth had taken their leave, a large crew of Weyrfolk rushed about cleaning the sands of soiled patches and shell debris. Once they too had gone she was finally free to nudge her eggs into the places they wanted to be, and to settle into brooding until her new hatchlings were ready to face the world.

The Eggs

Eggs are listed from largest to smallest

Heart Egg: - 3’4”
User Image

The towering Heart Egg stands resplendent at the centre of the clutch. It doesn’t matter where the centre is at any given time, The Heart moves (or rather asks to be moved) with the ebb and flow of its clutchmates so that it is always right in the middle of them. It gives off an aura of power and great pride but welcomes candidates maganaously when they first approach - yes it knows, meeting it is indeed a privilege, and it’s lovely to meet them too.

Sun’s Ray Egg - 3’0”
User Image

The Sun’s Ray Egg can usually be found beside The Heart Egg but is a much more retiring character than its dominant sibling. Its mental presence does not push out beyond its shell but when a candidate lays their hand upon it they will find themselves greeted with shy grace, so long as they have good manners and aren’t dirty that is. Those who don’t meet these criteria will feel a sense of gentle reproach and encouragement to do better.

Babbling Egg - 2’11”
User Image

Hello? Hello! Oh thank shells you’re here - thank its shell, ha! - Babbling was getting so horribly horribly bored here in the sand! The Babbling Egg lives up to its name by projecting a stream of consciousness like a brook to anyone who comes to greet it where it lies near the middle of the clutch. Babbling gives off an air of warmth, playfulness, effortless charisma, and endless curiosity. Here waits a light heart and a bright soul.

Prowling Egg - 2’9”
User Image

This egg is quiet, very quiet, and despite its large size a candidate with their mind on other things could miss its presence and walk right past it without realising. Those who do note it and greet it will initially be met with something of a cold shoulder, Prowling does not know you so don’t try to get too familiar right away. Those who are patient may eventually feel more from this egg but it will only let candidates reach its thoughts in its own good time.

Apex Egg - 2’6”
User Image

At first there is nothing when a candidate touches this centrally-placed egg but then, suddenly, there is a sensation of impossible speed and the mind of The Apex Egg strikes; its presence is initially almost overwhelming in its intensity but it doesn’t seem aggressive. Once the mental dust has settled Apex offers an amicable greeting and reaches out with a purpose, already seeking the hand that will fit its glove so to speak.

Leaping Egg - 2’5”
User Image

The vivacious energy of The Leaping Egg flows a good foot or so out of its shell and is no less intense when a candidate touches it because Leaping is just bursting to get out of this shell - to run, to dance! Could you give it a little tap perhaps? An accidental kick? No? Oh, alright then - disappointing but not unexpected, and how are you anyway? This egg is positioned at the front of the clutch, closest to the entrance to the sands where the candidates enter.

Basking Egg - 2’3”
User Image

If you’re wondering where the most blistering hot section of the sands is look no further than The Basking Egg. If you’re hoping to talk to it once the sun has set and the temperature has dropped slightly, forget it. If a candidate approaches in the hottest parts of the day however they will be met with a keen mind that probes the depths of their soul while giving little of itself away in return; this egg seems insightful and keen to learn.

Burrowing Egg - 2’2”
User Image

Humph, grumph, well what is it then? The starkly marked Burrowing egg doesn’t give the warmest first impression, in fact set off to the side and more than half buried in the sand at any given time as it is it doesn’t seem particularly keen on visitors at all. Nevertheless a candidate with a steady mind and a certain straightforwardness of character will, after a few moments, find themselves allowed in to dig a little deeper.

Fantastic Egg - 2’2”
User Image

Well hello there, grins the vibrant Fantastic Egg. This egg’s position within the clutch is unpredictable, though it is seldom found too close to Heart. Even before touching its shell candidates won’t help but be able to feel as though the egg is winking at them - quite a feat for something with no eyes. Contact with the shell gives an initial feeling of playfulness and irreverence, it seems this will not be one too concerned with propriety.

Homely Egg - 2’2” (Guaranteed Impression Egg)
User Image

This egg isn’t all that much to look at, or the type to reach out and pull candidates to them. Homely sits quietly at the back of the clutch. Close enough to still be in the comforting circle of their siblings, but not overshadowing any of them. Those that draw near will find a reassuring warmth, a gentle greeting. Touching the egg is rewarded with a gentle caress, the feeling of a warm hand softly stroking your cheek.

Hoarding Egg - 1’6”
User Image

Ah, you’re here, great! Now listen carefully because this is going to be the best idea you’ve ever heard! You- uh- we… Shards. The tiny Hoarding Egg sighs as the plan it had been trying to hold onto drifts apart, it was such a good one too… Ah well! There are always more ideas and right now Hoarding is more interested in meeting you anyway. Although it’s a bit off to the side this egg’s bright presence will probably draw plenty of visitors.
