Leiya had been about to suggest something, but folks had already gotten to work. They certainly worked fast! They must have been hungry.

“We brought the makings for other things,” she offered, to T’eir. She knew he’d been joking, but imagining the same food day in and day out certainly put a damper on moods.

T'eir and Brown Gilwreyth

"Other things?" he asked Leiya. "Do share." Of course he was referring to food in general. If she was offering, everyone would likely enjoy the variety.

T'eir glanced around at everyone at the table, then back at C'ran. "I would share my story if you share yours," he suggested. "Maybe we all could, taking turns. Provided they are not too personal." He did not mind telling of his lost love. Perhaps it would become bigger and more dramatic with the telling. His would certainly not lighten the mood in its present and truest state, however.

“I can cook,” she said. “I know we have ingredients for some things. We can forage and hunt for others. This climate isn’t all that different from home.” Drier, sandier... but certainly tubers could be found? Certainly fruits?

“Oh, yes! We can share our stories.” It was a perfect bonding activity!

S'var 7

Ah. That explained it.

"Love is a powerful motivating force," S'var said after a brief silence, returning K'ndayo's smirk with a small sad smile of his own. "I'm sure you've already considered this, so please forgive an old man for stating the obvious, but might not your Weyrmate prefer to spend this precious time with you? Once Julith is ready for us to reveal ourselves, of course."

C'ran of green Tefelath (11)

C'ran grinned. He knew they were in for a surprise, getting Leiya in the kitchen. He hadn't had many opportunities, but those few had been miraculous experiences. "You're all in for a treat if'n you get her in the kitchen. Might take a bit to make it, but... Treats." He hummed, nodding over at T'eir. "Can't ask you to share something I won't, right?"

K'ndayo and Blue Audrath - 6

"I have thought about that. En'il, he does not handle illnesses well. So I have decided instead to write in a journal each day so that he can spend that time with me when he's ready." And for that, perhaps En'il would forgive K'ndayo for not telling him.

T'eir and Brown Gilwreyth - 4

"There was a woman I will not name. I fell in love with her and tried to... encourage her to fall for me. But she would not believe that my love was true. I'm sure that some of you would remember hearing of the harper who was denied in public over another man. I was that harper." He paused for a moment. "But I really did love her. Love like that only comes once in one's lifetime. I lost my will to live. So when M'rio was looking for Julith's escort, Gilwreyth encouraged me to join. And why not? I wanted to stop living. This could end that way for all of us. But at least our sacrifices will mean something wonderful."

S'var 8

"That is..." S'var paused, sighed, and gave K'ndayo a little smile that belied the grave expression in his eyes. "A difficult decision, I don't envy it. Will you conceal yourself when we reach out to Fort? I'm sure everyone here will support you, if that's what you want. We can fetch food to Audrath if he stays in an out of the way weyr, and keep a watch for E'nil should he come looking."

C'ran of green Tefelath (12)

"I fear I must agree, that sounds awfully rough." He sighed, suddenly feeling bad that his story wasn't quite as grim. Perhaps it would help to lift the moods again? "We've come to help with whatever might be needed. No sad tale to aid the decision, just... wanted to help." He smiled wryly, looking up at the others. "Hoped to make sure the weyr could support the new weight an' the new kids, maybe help these northerners straighten out the north's care t' begin with."

K'ndayo and Blue Audrath - 7

K'ndayo was taken aback. He did not expect this kind offer, or any offer for that matter. Perhaps even reproach would have surprised him less. It forced him to stop and think about the consequences, which could affect others beyond himself. He had not considered that. Rather, he had expected that he would not need to hide at all. Now S'var was offering to help him hide. "I don't want anyone else caught up in this deceit. I know it is possible that he will visit; I will face him then if I must. It is not my intention to hide from him, only to save him from unnecessary pain, if I can."

T'eir and Brown Gilwreyth - 5

T'eir nodded his head. "Thank you for saying so, C'ran. I know that my reputation preceded me and for that I lost much of my credibility. I cannot choose who I am, and she rejected that part of me."

He smiled faintly and waited for the others to tell their story. C'ran and Leiya's was the same; they just wanted to help. But there was more to it and frankly he wasn't sure he could agree with their choice. Yes, they needed the help but this was a risk to their lives. On the other hand, choices were made daily that affected or ended a life. "I see where you are coming from." In the end that was all the harper could think of to say.

S'var 9

S'var nodded and gave K'ndayo another little smile; "Of course. If you do need anything though, even just a listening ear, let me know." It was a painful situation to be in, one he could well understand even if it was a different kind of love that had been part of his motivation to come north.

"Shall we go back in then?" S'var surveyed the supplies they'd collected, nothing extravagant but more than enough to fill their stomachs and for now that was more than enough.

K'ndayo and Blue Audrath - 8

"Thank you, S'var." Having the ear of a distinguished elder was what anyone could wish for, at any age in their lives. Not for decision making necessarily, but for venting. Everyone needs that kind of support. K'ndayo recognized this and was truly grateful for the offer.

He nodded when S'var asked if they should return to the common room. Everything seemed to be in order and the platters were full. Soon everyone would be equally full.

K'ndayo wandered out with his part of the meal and set it down towards the middle of the table everyone was seated at. "Here, fellow riders is your feast of plenty." Not fancy but plentiful, he liked that just fine.

Leiya listened to T’eir’s story. It was a sad one, certainly. Maybe... maybe he’d find happiness where they were going. Maybe he’d find someone better, someone who could understand and love him for who he was.

“Yes. We came to help.” It felt like a lie. She hadn’t wanted to come. She hadn’t wanted to take the risk. But C’ran... Shards, she loved him. She’d be damned if she was letting him die alone.

C'ran (13)

With the food sorted out, C'ran got up and pulled Leiya onto the couch next to him. He'd get her to cook later, after he'd helped with foraging and gotten the garden working. That shouldn't take long, even in winter; there was enough heat here that the ground should support plants just fine. "I fear this one may have come more for my benefit than anyone's."
