History

146-161 - (0-15) Verlon was born a drudge at Fort Hold, his mother died when he was a couple of turns old and he was raised communally from then on. He got on with his lot in life without too much complaint and formed close bonds with several of his peers, he always dreamed of more but who doesn't when they watch the Lords feast on meat and get only bread and vegetables themselves?
162-165 - (16-19) Searched to Fort Weyr but failed to Impress in Welsanth and Ronlirth's clutch. Was also unsuccessful in Famurth and Layalth's 164 clutch but in 165 he bonded to the only blue in Welsanth and Bururth's clutch, Mirath.
166-176 - (20-30) In 166 V'lon took a permanent weyrmate in R'ia of green Tiauth, in 167 they had a daughter (adoptable). Forever grateful to the Weyr for searching him and giving him a new life V'lon became the model of a good dragonrider, at least on duty! He had a lot of fun off duty but whenever it was time to work he was there, on time with a clear head and willingness to go the extra mile every time. He had a good way with his wingmates too and eventually this was recognised, when his wing's previous leader retired and one of its seconds promoted she offered V'lon the empty wingsecond spot. R'ia bought V'lon a firelizard egg as a congratulatory gift. He named the little green Weed.
177 - (31) Just when everything was going so well...
178-181 - (32-35) The plague took everything from a lot of people, it took Tiauth from R'ia and then R'ia from V'lon and their daughter shortly after. V'lon watched his friends lose their dragons and lost a little bit of himself each time. When Welsanth succumbed and then Malsalth sickened he lost hope and started to drink far more than he ought, what was the point of anything? But then Malsalth rose despite her illness and grew heavy with eggs, and although there was no golden shell when she laid them V'lon clung onto the glimmer of hope like a drowning man. There would be a gold in the clutch, she would be healthy, and through her northern Pern would survive when the Thread returned.
26.7.181 - V'lon found two firelizard eggs while helping to clear the hatchings sands, they hatched into brown Nibbles and gold Snoot.

Appearance: Standing just a shade over six feet tall and possessing a powerful build he cuts and impressive figure. With dark hair, dark eyes, and mid toned skin he's an average man of Pern so far as his colouration goes. He can glower like a devil and grin like a cheerful puck.

Personality: V'lon is a spirited man, somewhat larger than life he always follows his heart and his gut and never seems to lack for energy or confidence. Despite this however and despite his gregarious nature and his large group of friends he's actually quite a reserved man when it comes to his innermost thoughts and feelings, he speaks easily - though he's as apt to listen as to talk - but generally steers away from anything too personal with just about everyone. Even if people notice this however most would agree he's usually good company - if they're into boisterous games, dice, and wine that is.

Perhaps V'lon's greatest virtue is his loyalty; if you're his friend he'll have your back no matter what and he will go to any lengths to do his duty and to keep his word. What V'lon is loyal to most of all, besides his dragon, is his Weyr - he will do anything to see Fort thrive and is fully committed to standing behind its new leaders W'dol and D'lana, who are the most legitimate authority available as far as he's concerned. Changing his mind is something V'lon struggles with, once he's committed he's committed and going back on what he said before even in the face of new evidence doesn't sit right with him - he almost feels like he was lying before even if he only said/did whatever it was because he lacked information.

The thing that V'lon struggles with most, besides his inflexibility, is his temper. He's not an angry man as such but when something does get under his skin it can overcome his judgement and lead to him getting into arguments he'll come to regret; it takes knowing him well and having his respect to talk him down once he's on the warpath. He doesn't hold grudges too easily however, so if others are willing to forgive and forget a spat he is too.

Appearance: Mirath is a very handsome dragon and he knows it! He is a rather vain fellow, proud of his beautiful hide and his perfect conformation. His is sleekly muscled and works hard to maintain his physique, even in desperate times such as these.

* Gaming table: has a couple of different board games, some different sets of dice, and a simple deck of cards.
* Jewellery box: contains a number of pretty but inexpensive pieces, heavy on the coloured glass and painted beads. A silver bangle with a pattern of soaring dragons is kept well polished, a date is carved on the inside - 03.05.166. A silver ring, its size indicating it is for a man's finger, bearing a matching pattern and a matching date.
