Beloved Werewolf

Name: K’on
Age: 56
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: No strong preference.
Weyr: Western Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Healer
Physical Description: K’on is fairly average in height for a Pernese man, but broad in the shoulders and back. His hands are calloused and delicate. There is something about his default expression that reads like a wild animal trapped in a room, with honey gold eyes and dark, short hair. He has untamed scruff that is surprisingly well groomed if one gets close enough to actually see it.
Personality: Somewhere buried deep within K’on’s gruff exterior is a vein of kindness. Unfortunately for most, he has wrapped that vein away like it is gold and everybody else in the world is a vandal, coming at him only for riches they do not deserve. He is not a man who makes friends easily or quickly. He is not eager for the approach of others, and while he will not swat and chase away those who do dare approach, they will find that his words and his person are wrapped in a layer of protection that no prodding will make it’s way through in good time.

Rarely does K’on initiate conversation, content to sit back and watch. From the moment he enters any space - known or new - he has a firm idea of what to expect from everybody in it and has gathered up every tense coil in his body that is needed to react in the moment. While not friendly and close to many (in fact most will say the company he keeps can be counted on one hand), he has developed a sense of subtle mood changes and even the smallest one can raise his hackles. This leaves him almost always on edge.

K’on enjoys his causes, however, and isn’t one to shy from hard work. He will get his hands dirty if he must, and any task he starts is worth following through with. Leave difficult tasks in K’on’s hands and you will always see them done completely and done well with no complaint.
Positive Trait List Observant, Diligent, Thorough
Negative Trait List Withdrawn, Suspicious, Standoffish
History: Kuron’s mother passed away when he was fairly young, so most of his familial memories are of him, his older brother, and their father. Kuron’s father, Quayon, had a reputation for being a good man and his eldest son, Quale, was very much like him. The family was settled into a small community that was hardly bigger than 10 families total where Quayon practiced as a healer for all who walked through his doors. Quale started assisting his father then he was 8 while quiet little Kuron was deemed only old enough to watch.

So he watched. He watched when Arde came in needing something for a sprained muscle. He watched when Old Lady Mahbe came by for something to ease the pain in her hands. He watched when Creyha came by with her new baby, needing something for his fever. He did a lot of watching.

So the day a stranger came into the small community, clearly injured and needing assistance, Kuron watched as his father and brother tended to the man - who explained he’d been attacked while travelling. Quayon didn’t question it farther than that explanation, and after a few days of recuperating the man was on his way again.

He wouldn’t be gone for long. Weeks later, he would return again, this time with a few friends who also needed to be treated for injury. Kuron watched them carefully. Still young, the boy wasn’t sure what it was he was meant to see, and when the strangers left he asked his father. “You’ll know it when you see it,” Quayon answered.

Perhaps Quayon had a specific thing in mind when he said it, but the return of the stranger several months later had other ideas in mind This time they came as raiders, not as patients.. He came with a group of men larger than even their little settlement. They came for everything else they had - people, food, livestock. When Quayon refused to leave, he was killed and in his place, his eldest son was taken. Kuron, it seemed, had been so quiet and unassuming that nobody had even realized he was there.

Kindness beget disaster when simply given, and Kuron would not forget it.

Kuron was taken in by the remnants of another family and the entire community set about recovering from their catastrophe. When he was 10, Kuron set off to the Healer Hall in Fort Hold to learn his father’s craft - a silent, withdrawn boy who while skilled, wasn’t necessarily ideal in his working. He lacked warmth and failed to hold on to any long-lasting friendships.

At 17, he left the Healer Hall to return to his home, only to find a new healer had settled in during his absence. A young man with dark eyes and a scarred face. Kuron recognized his brother immediately, but their reunion wasn’t to last long. In exchange for his services, Quale had bought some semblance of his freedom, as well as a way for the community to survive - but he had no place for his brother in it. Despite his protests, Kuron was sent from his home once again.

Instead of returning to Fort Hold, Kuron instead made his way to Tillek and found work on a fishing rig. When he was 20, a searchdragon from Western Weyr sniffed him out and though hesitant, he accepted the potential change in his future. Change did not come quickly, though and he stood for several years before his finally came for him. Come, myKuron. Your Alzarth is here to soothe the pains of his world - and all I need is you.

K’on was hesitant to give the brown his entire heart for only an instant. The two were certainly a force to be reckoned with in training, more interested in each other than their fellow Weyrlings and while even after graduating the pair stuck around (though things were very laid back at Western compared to more a certain militant Weyr) there was a lot of back and forth to home. Rather, to watch his home. He was but one man on a brown, after all, and Alzarth offered the assurances needed to bolster his patience.

As the community shrunk, however, it soon became K’on’s only option to spirit his brother, and a few other lingering victims of his once home, away to Western Hold.

With his life in as much balance as it could he settled into serving Western Weyr - even more so since his kids have gotten old enough to fend for themselves and Threadfall has become a major part of life.
Other:
-Quale may be adoptable in the future as either a rider or non-rider so I am leaving that part of K’on’s brother’s fate vague for this history.
-K’on has a son and a daughter through different mothers. His son was raised by his mother, though K’on has been an active figure in his life, and he raised his daughter when her mother seemed more inclined to place her in the creche.

DRAGON
Name: Alzarth
Age: 32
Color: Brown
Size: 38’
Physical Description: Alzarth is a broad chested brown with notably shorter front legs than rear ones. His wings are wide, but narrow, giving them an ill-proportioned look to the rest of his body.
Personality: Alzarth is here to soothe the pains of the world like a pillow over the face of a slumbering old man in agony. It isn’t that he believes the best thing to do in the world is ill unto others, but that sometimes the kindest thing to do is also the hardest thing to do. He could be likened to a dark angel of mercy for the mind if Pern had such a concept; he will kill your futile hopes even if it hurts you, he will throttle a heart with the truth even if it aches, he will tell you what you need to hear, but don’t want to. But such resolve goes mostly untested, leaving most to see what he is otherwise.

Soft spoken and sweetly worded at all other times, Alzarth is a gentle hand on the shoulder, an ear leaned in close to listen. He will not betray you when you show weakness. However, for how much trust he is willing to shoulder the burden of, Alzarth does not give his easily. He does not want others to carry what is his, and frankly what is his….is his alone. Not just burdens, but chosen mates, meals, and even possessions.

It is near impossible to rile Alzarth to physical confrontation, and his patience in the circle of verbal exchanges is endless. He is always ready, if he must, to go to a war of words, but at the end of the day he would much rather have friendlier and softer conversations.
