"Star-struck?" Really? Polair thought of the possibility and decided it was best to recomfort him and not dig in deeper as she always did. Though the whole concept was new to her. Perhaps blood color was a variable here? The sea dweller couldn't relate to the feeling, maybe because she has never felt that way or claimed to. And honestly, it wouldn't be surprising if they saw top celebrities and the like here.

"Am I making you feel like that as well?" She asked quietly, mulling over that possibility. Polair was about to ask him if there was anything she could do to help but that was when someone had approached them.

That wasn't even the surprising thing. The most surprising aspect and perhaps the most important, this troll knew Engrav. Which made her think that she hadn't shown much interest in who he knew. Polair knew the yellow blood on a professional and an amicable plane. (And also a bit romantically)

She snapped out of her thinkpan and smiled at Kursha. "Polair Rision, onstage I'm known as Astra. Glad to meet you Captain Vidari. I've heard good things about you!" As if anyone could ever ignore the greenblood's existence. This was quite the character here. Not a troll to mess with and, at the same time, someone did their job right. Pol took some drinks and handed one to her date and offered one to the military officer. Proper etiquette.

"Oh, I'm actually blind." She said taking a sip as if her condition was no longer a problem. It was weird not having to feel sorry for herself. Polair had started to get used to having her blind eyes out for the world to see. It still made her feel uncomfortable but little by little, she'd get her confidence back 100%. "Blind as a bat. Yet I can handle myself pretty well without relying on my sight." She said as a matter of fact. If not, she wouldn't be able to pull out all the stunts she did on stage.

And another troll had approached them! New voices to memorize. Though really, she would have never expected Engrav to have connections with the military. Interesting information. She tried to face the blueblood and offered him a smile as well. "Hello Static, glad to meet you. Would you like a drink?"

She could serve it and hand it over no problem. Nor was she going to be all fancy and not serve a drink for someone else. I guess someone has been doing a lot of volunteering for the military. She took a sip of her drink and pushed some idle strands of hair away from her face. This wasn't weird, it actually made sense. They were aiding the military during the Space exploration, so it wasn't strange if he kept doing so whenever he had the chance.

"Didn't know you were acquainted with Engrav." And here he was feeling starstruck. Which she still couldn't comprehend why. Oh well. "Have you thought of enlisting in the military?" She asked the yellow blood. She wouldn't do it, she was never really interested but who knew if he was.

Terror night was that time of year Cynril, I mean Yureey, enjoyed very much. Trolls handed candy over if they didn't want their hives wrecked. What fun!

Tonight he was wearing his now favorite (stolen) costume and was going to use it wisely. He had tripled promised he would not get into any trouble and if there were any signs of it, he'd do his best to stay away from it and go back home. At least he thought about his friends in the swamp and planned to get those who weren't going to show up some candy and drinks. Cynril just had to figure out how to do so. It the meantime, he kept wandering around, admiring all the costmuse at a safe distance.

And... With his mask on.

Wander stood outside of the hivestem, spark-stimming all the while. She waited to catch sight of Trusci, her date (!), among all the faces of trolls streaming by into the party proper. She wore something a bit different from her usual thing. A lot more bling and leather, plus some flats because of course she would still wear shoes. She even dyed her hair! A new thing for her. Wander hoped that her outfit would be...somewhat recognizable to at least some of the trolls here. It'd be embarrassing to be the only one who knew of Crisss Angell!

Though, a good costume didn't matter as much as a good time... Hopefully she wouldn't be boring... Ahh...

Engrav Setlar

"It's not... Polair, that's the Empress over there," Engrav hissed to his partner. "Have you ever -" his aside was interrupted by possibly the worst troll at the worst possible time. Which really made sense, the way this evening had been going already. Engrav's eye twitched. He'd had this dream before, only last time he hadn't been wearing pants.

"Vidari." The reply was short, curt, and with a considerable acid edge. It popped out of the yellowblood before he could slam his stupid trap shut. "My... apologies."

Engrav's tone made it very clear he was not in any way apologizing.

"I must have missed you on the way in. Allow me to rectify that." He gave a very slight bow and motioned to the highblood he'd escorted. "Polair is my confidant and partner, and... date for the evening, Captain. And Vidari here..." he paused, turning back to the seadweller with a grimace.

"He may have the honor of being the largest pain in the spinal crevasse I've ever had the pleasure to meet." Engrav's eye narrowed. "Unfortunately, he's paired his insuffereable attitude with an unflinching ability to fail upwards." Aaaaand there he went again. Whenever Engrav got backed into a corner, he inevitably bristled, pissing off exactly the wrong people. As a survival mechanism, it left a considerable amount to be desired. Why in the world could he not just keep his stupid head down and get ignored? No other lowbloods seemed to have that problem. Metal ground against metal as the inventor's metallic hand squirmed at his side, trying to find something to crush.

Thank gog Static dropped in at exactly the right time. That was twice the blueblood had probably saved his life now. Engrav made a mental note to get him a nice watch or something. He let loose a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding in, smiling at the newcomer.

"Static! Wonderful to see you! You know, we were just talking to Captain Vidari here about the promising young trolls making their first forays into a military career! And here you are." He handed the blueblood a drink, pulled him into the depths of the group as a social meatshield. "Vidari, how would you say young Static here's progressing on the martial command structure?" He grinned at the military blueblood, then slipped aside for a second and whispered so only Polair could hear.

"We've never discussed politics, but I'm not really... military material. We should talk about it later." Or, ideally, never. That was a conversation he was simultaneously looking forward to and dreading, if such a thing was possible.

The importance of the evening had never been lost on Tamiya Aiguma. From childhood she had spent Terror Night cleaning, rearranging, praying. Each sweep led to a change in her regimen, minor as it was, to develop her into the devout juggalo she was this very evening. This sweep’s change, however, was a step above the rest. She would normally not have attended a Terror Night party. She would have scoffed, perhaps scorned the thought. Tamiya did not celebrate Terror Night - she observed it. Feared it, scratched patterns into her skin if she didn’t occupy her time atoning and ensuring that her time on Alternia as a mortal would pass unmolested by the dead. However, something inside of her writhed when she received word of the soiree. It was some unconscious need to prove something, feel something specific that drove her to contact Sinter immediately while pulling all of her belongings together into the middle of her hive.

At last, and with urging and placation, she had decided to attend. Tamiya was dressed down relative to her normal attire, but appeared haunting nonetheless. She was a spirit, plain and simple. Occasionally a bit of salt would crumble to the ground beneath her. Wiry, thick hair brushed full and thick covered a good portion of Tamiya’s face, whitened to a pale white mask with paint. She was dressed the part, but Tamiya could not say she was in a festive spirit. She clutched the fox-like creature accompanying her for purchase and made her way to the penthouse.

--

Meanwhile…

--

“Dear Peikoe, try the flatbread,” suggested Aandes. Dressed as a high-fashion version of a black purrbeast, he glimmered and basked in the gauzy light of the party. It was nice to get out of the office once in a while with Rasali (Peikoe) in tow. Nice to get her out of the swamp.

Unfortunately, the usual suspects had arrived. Regina Marian and Kursha Vidari would make any funny business an unpleasant task. Originally considering the spot prime for some sly, rebellious antics, Aandes opted to use the opportunity to build his web instead. Rasali could stuff some extra bar soaps into her bra on her own time.

“Vidari and her Highness is here. I won’t shy away from introducing you to my colleagues, darling, if it comes to it. I hope you won’t be too bashful.”

Or too forward, Aandes shot a knowing look at his kismesis. Did Rasali have conviction? Yes. Was she a good actor? Aandes considered, if for only a moment, the option of throwing himself out the penthouse window should things go sour.

Well- it seemed there was just... one game, currently available for playing. Come to think of it, this event seemed more geared towards older trolls. Not that he could complain, really. Both hosts were adults- he scanned the room to see if he could spot them- oh. Oh. That- that was the Empress herself. How had he not noticed her before? His grip on Knetic's hand tightened a bit as nervousness settled in. Mostly for Knetic. He had a way of saying silly things that might get him into trouble.

"Ah- uh... uh..." He looked back to his friend at the question- right. Games. Games.... "The--there's uh, apple-- apple bobbing. Uh, leh--let's try that?" He pointed to it with a slightly jerky motion, then pulled Knetic on over.

Come to think of it, doing this game with their costumes would be... uh... hard. Impossible, really, without removing the hoods. He stared at the bin of applies bobbing about in the LaMoixde (excellent choice of beverage, might he add) for a few moments before finally letting go of Knetic and pushing his hood back. "Gue--guess we'll uh, ha--haave to take these off..." He sighed a bit, then...

Leaned over to get one of the apples- the LaMoixde was really cold, but he was successful in getting one of the fruits. Shivering a bit, he looked for something to wipe his face off with. "Yuh--you're t-tttturn."

A familiar, antagonistic voice struck Odette's spongeclots. Ah, so Vidari had finally arrived. Her attention swiveled, scanning the room for him. Eventually, she found him, and her eyes snapped wide. Kursha was dressed as Sherlo Kholms, the ultra-refined, ultra-brilliant detective of booklore. It felt like a parody to see the greenblood wearing all that houndstooth, pipe in mouth. Too incredulous to hold it in, she honked a laugh, then quickly slapped a hand over her mouth.

"Forgive me, forgive me," Odette apologized to her conversation party, hand still covering her mouth as her face lit up bright red. She brought them down to explain herself, resting one hand on her arm. "It's just... Captain Vidari struck me as a fists first, questions later sort of investigator. This look on him feels... novel."

It looked like he was speaking with... Astra dressed as a monster, and a yellowblood dressed as a scientist. How did that boy catch a seadweller superstar, and the eye of Captain Vidari? One lucky lowblood, that was certain.

Eostre kept a keen eye on her guests, noting the ones she wasn't as familiar with. But even more interesting were the ones she did know, including Kursha. Eostre folded her hand under her chin as she looked on, curious about her matesprit's laughter. She'd worked with him enough to feel Odette's assessment was accurate enough, and the outfit did seem almost ironic. "I think he looks... like he's having fun," she finished simply.

She put her hand on Odette's arm, and lowered her voice. "I hate to leave you, darling, but I'm going to check on some other guests, alright? Let me know if you need anything." Eostre turned to the queen and smiled brightly. "I'm sure you understand there's quite a few people here that I need to greet. The joys of being a socialite and all. I'm so glad you managed to come, though, Regina."

Giving Odette a quick kiss on the cheek (on her toes to reach), the blueblood slipped away to mingle with her guests. She gave every troll she passed a quick hello, welcome, and settled near a greenblood in a frighteningly good werebeast costume.

"What a lovely costume, did you make it yourself?" Eostre asked the child, her hand on her cheek as she analyzed the outfit. She didn't usually interact with children much (Odette was much better at handling them) but some of her plans required being able to get on the ground floor with military newcomers, so to speak. There was a need for all types."It makes you look very strong."

Tamiya entered the party on the arm of a familiar form. "Familiar" may have been an uncomfortable term, but it was no less accurate. A tall, white biped accompanied Tamiya across the floor of the penthive. Along the way they had acquired a glass of what appeared to be red wine. They made no motion to drink. It was difficult to discern how they would go about such a thing in the first place. They seemed content to carry the beverage as a prop while Tamiya steered them through the party.

"Oh~! Don't mind if I do." A piece of flatbread disappeared up under a sleek, black raven mask. The troll underneath hummed with delight. "Lovely!" she declared loudly for the hostesses to overhear. Well, ideally Odette, but Rasali wasn't above playing nice with royalists where good food was involved. It had been far too long since Rasali was last able to indulge in snacks she hadn't scavenged herself. There wasn't a single canned food or swamp grass in sight.

Of course Rasali could always trust Aandes to bring her down from finger-food based euphoria. Her mask obscured the wrinkle of her nose. Kursha and the Gl'b-damned empress herself. As if attending a celebrity royalist party wasn't risky enough. Rasali would by lying if she said she didn't feel a thrill at the danger, but she also couldn't fathom how Odette put up with this sort of thing all the time.

"Of course, of course. I'd love to see what you get up to in your business ventures sweetheart, but I'd also hate to intrude. They look... preoccupied." Rasali's voice pitched up in saccharine tone as she tried carefully to avoid dropping g's and speaking around her flatbread. Cautiously she eyed the empress conversing with Lieutenant Diazzi. Rasali knew there was some adage or whatever about preferring more familiar devils. Still, she couldn't help but consider Regina Marian a far more appealing alternative to dealing with Kursha. At least with the queen, making things difficult for difficulty's sake wouldn't be a given.

Odette was cheerful, and excited, even in the presence of high military. A good party always put her in a good mood, and so many common trolls, even kids, had come to enjoy her presence. She was so happy to meet them all, perhaps play a few games. It couldn't have been more wonderful.

How quickly that could change, with the arrival of two unexpected guests. A terrifying memory, amplified, come to face her in her most unexpected hour. In her own home.

The air went still, unnervingly so. Odette didn't breathe. Her legs locked, the hand clutching her drink frozen in place. Forbidden from making a commotion, forced to face her horrors in the worst place imaginable.

She felt fragile. Eostre could help, she could protect her— but Eostre was gone, no longer beside her. What was this, some cruel prank?

Perhaps. Tamiya's lusus was not as Odette remembered him. He had horns, familiar ones. Sinter's. Odette's sniffnode wrinkled. b*****d. Didn't he know what he was doing? She had every right to throw her drink at him, to make a scene and throw them out and— oh.

The fragile glass had popped under her tight grip, splitting it into large pieces that spilled to the floor along with the remainder of her drink. The glass sliced her hand, booze mixing with blood and causing Odette to flinch in pain. Despite it, she was thankful. This was an excuse. A blessing in disguise.

"Oh dear," Odette sighed, hiding her bloody hand. For once, she was thankful to have a blood that blended easily with wine. "Excuse me, I'll go find someone to clean this up," She said, running off to find a server drone to take care of the mess. Plucking a handkerchief from them, she left out the balcony doors, cradling her bloody hand into the napkin.

Regina shrugged at Odette's incredulity - after turning and craning her neck to look at the getup Kursha had chosen. "I never did get the point of those books. Why'd he always bother explaining how he figured s**t out at the end? Just cull the criminal and get it over with. Unless he was secretly gettin' off on the attention."

She nodded at Eostre as the blueblood excused herself. Guests, politeness, etcetera ectetera. She turned back to Odette just as her wine glass shattered. "Oh wow. Yeah, careful there Cygnet." Staring at the redblood's disappearing form, she gave a frown, looking down at the mess, then out at the guests. What was that all about? It wasn't as though holding a glass was an art form that Odette was still mastering. Well, whatever, it didn't matter. And if it did, she'd hear about it sooner or later. Turning, she began to push her way towards the refreshments, using her elbows to clear a path.

Aconan hadn’t quite beelined for the snack-looking things, because believe it or not she had had picked up some rules of politeness through sheer repetition if nothing else, but it had been a close one. She was inching her way over there, whilst looking at the variety of costumes people were wearing, when Eostre approached. It was a good job that her face was mostly covered, because the expression she was wearing was close to glee. She straightened up into a more formal stance as the blueblood approached, swallowing. She had to make a good impression, she had to!

Aconan barely stifled a happy yip (she didn’t stifle the wriggle) when Eostre complimented her costume.

“Thankyou, ma’am! Yes, though some of it was just alteration work.”

Still, Aconan had been proud of her work, and to get a compliment on it was great.

“Your costume is executed wonderfully - the beadwork must have taken some skill.”

Aconan’s interest in sewing might have been mostly motivated by necessity, but she could still admire the craftsmanship in other people’s work - it might be just a hobby for her, but she could see that whoever had made Eostre’s costume had put a lot of work into it!

Eostre smiled at the formal stance of the young greenblood. Good, she was respected by this child. "At ease, darling," she said, laughing gently. "It's a party after all." She was able to look closer at the costume now, and saw that it was still crafted fairly well for a child. She did have a soft spot for seamstresses, it seemed.

"Thank you! You must have quite a keen eye. I know some very talented trolls who make fantastic things. I was very pleased with their beadwork for my and Odette's costumes, though of course we went for something elegant rather than frightening," Eostre said, looking idly to see where her matesprit was. She frowned, seeing Regina walking away from where she'd been moments ago, and Odette nowhere to be seen suddenly. Perhaps she had to take a quick break or use the ablution block. Her gaze continued to wander, and she put her gloved hand on the werebeast's shoulder gently. In the crowd she spotted Tamiya and... what looked like her lusus? She narrowed her eyes, but turned her attention back to the greenblood.

"Oh, where are my manners, I can't recall if we've met and with the mask... can I get your name, darling?" she said, clearing her mind of a potential problem. She'd check in soon enough, but wanted to focus on her current task.

Aconan nodded, listening attentively to Eostre’s conversation. She preened internally that she might be considered a talented troll who made things - of course that didn’t mean Eostre meant that she could have been only referring to the beadwork-people, but it was possible she meant Aconan too, and that possibility was pretty awesome, so she’d take it. You know, with a...what was that phrase, a grain of salt? Aconan didn’t generally take much stock of phrases really, they often made no sense to her.

“Oh!” Aconan gave a soft yip of surpise. “Sorry! I’m Aconan Eyulft, at your service! Give me a second.” Reaching round to where the mask was tied onto her horns, she undid the string, then lifted the skull carefully, revealing her face, grey eyes looking up at Eostre hesitantly, embarrassed smile playing around her mouth.

“I keep forgetting people can’t see my whole face. I know it’s there of course, but the vision is pretty good.”

She admitted, before replacing the mask.

"Elegance definitely fits more with the decor than frightening. Isn't this place beautiful?"
