Flydra is checking the hallway
2/11 advances
1/2 minibosses defeated

Flydra glanced between Leeroi and Buffel. What an insufferable blueblood. Maybe Lorata was right about them all being terrible. She grinded her teeth as the annoying engineer teased her with his little prank only to reveal it was a 'gotcha' moment. Her fists rolled up into angry balls. It was only because he was stationed under Kursha Vidari that she refrained from stabbing him in the a** with a paralyzing toxin. It was too tempting to leave him helpless for the zombies to eat.

The zombies that appeared to be shuffling down the hall towards them...

"I want you to collect samples from those zombies." Flydra fished out a bunch of ziploc bags from her kit and thrust them into the others' arms to put tissue samples in. Maybe she could calm down if she focused on something productive instead of murdering someone.

She looked to Scorpa with her cheeks puffed in frustration. At least she knew she could trust her dear Scorpa not to be an idiot or a jerk. Or at least, she could trust her to be cruel in a way that benefited the two of them.

Boy, Flydra looked cross. The lowblood was not touchin' that conversation with a ten-foot pole, Leeroi could dig himself outta this one. Buffel scanned the approaching horde. ”Look to be about twelve of 'em by my count. Keep on yer toes.”

He was more than a bit concerned that his gun would act up again, and he wasn't certain his arm could take more direct combat. If it didn't he'd have to hold back as much as he could, dishing out a mean right hook from his flesh hand at best. Still, Flydra wanted those samples and the gunslinger wasn't about to let her down.

"Let's go. Someone get me an eye, please." Flydra unleashed a round of needles at the daywalkers. She pulled a scalpel out of her kit and began trying to carve pieces off of the zombies, getting a little too into it. If the damn things would just stop moving, this would take a lot less time! The zombies did not take to this well and began shoving her around, her pigtails flying everywhere and tangling the tealblood in a huge mess of limbs and angry kicking. Just behave, stupid daywalkers!

"Scorpa, help! You two, make yourselves useful!" She was embarrassed to be seen like this but she would do whatever it took in the pursuit of great science. These bodies were so old, she wanted the data off of them so badly! The rest of Alternia might not understand her genius but someday, they would all see.

"Okayyy!" Scorpa accepted the plastic bag and turned towards the zombies. She unsheathed her blade and got straight into it! Slicing through the zombies, the yellowblood flowed around them with ease. She'd fought several daywalkers by now and had gotten a good feel for their speed and general movement. Sure each one was different but most of them fell into a ballpark range. As the zombies fell, she smirked. Now came the fun part, collecting samples! She began to go around and start slicing off pieces and tossing them in her bag!

"What about noses?" Scorpa called over to Flydra as she tried to pick out good pieces for the scientist. She didn't really know what all the tealblood would want and was sort of just throwing random pieces of daywalker into her bag.

Leeroi lowered his shotgun. What the ******** were these girls doing? Leeroi's sniffnode wrinkled at the sight of them selecting pieces of corpses off of the daywalkers. He looked over at Buffel and squinted, as if saying, are you seeing what I'm seeing? Eventually, he got frustrated.

"HEY!" Leeroi yelled to get their attention. "Unless you want to be peppered with bullet bits, I can't shoot if you're standing around in my shot." He looked cross, but really he was still just incredibly confused.

Buffel is used to Flydra's requests. He deftly headshots the remaining two and goes about pickin' the left-over eyes.

Buffel met the blueblood's look of confusion with a completely neutral expression and a shake of his head, as if to say, "The explanation would not help, so don't bother."

With a shrug, the yellowblood was off, walking out of Leeroi's range and trying to get at the beasts that were left. Holding for a moment as his finger gun finished transforming, he took aim upon its successful transformation at the most important of the remaining corpses. As the corpse slowed a bit, the gunslinger seized the opportunity and fired a clear shot straight through the temple of the corpse still tangled in Flydra's hair. It fell limp and slumped to the ground. He hadn't considered that it might pull her down with it, but thankfully it seemed to untangle itself as soon as it wasn't struggling against her movements anymore.

The last beast had fallen over prone and still hadn't gotten up yet. Buffel stood over it, deciding which eye in it seemed like a cleaner sample. Deciding on the left one, he took aim at the right with a quick gesture and fired into its skull. He tried to remind himself not to get used to this kind of thing.

"If you can't make a shot, the fault lies with you." Flydra huffed and ran her fingers through her hair to fix it from its earlier tangling. Why did Buffel hang around this person? It was so annoying! She would have to talk to Lorata about this. She ignored the fact that Leeroi had been frustratingly helpful against the earlier gerbil pack. And the fact that he actually had designed something interesting for Buffel's arm. She didn't want to like this person.

Buffel had chosen him over her after all.

"Good work, Buffel, looks like the improvements I made to your hand helped." The tealblood stuck her nose in the air and walked down a hallway. It wasn't true by a long shot but all she had left was stubborn denial to keep her pride. She stuffed her bag of samples into her kit and tried to focus ahead.

"Don't worry, we had them!" Scorpa waved the concern away. She understood it but figured Leeroi would understand the situation had already been under control. She didn't think a group of daywalkers was anything to get spooked over. As Flydra started up another round of squabbling, Scorpa looked around to see if there was anything to watch for regarding their mission. A door caught her attention down the hall and she strolled over to it.

Scorpa reached to open the door before remembering what she'd been told. She stopped and investigated the handle, spotting a little red pulsing light on it. Yep, definitely trapped. The yellowblood stepped back to let her darling moirail take a stab at it.

"Flydra, if you wouldn't mind~" Scorpa called to the tealblood to get her attention. She seemed a bit distracted arguing with the blueblood about prosthetics on this mission. While Scorpa loved a good fight, she wasn't as technologically inclined and thus unable to really help the doctor with this one. So it made her a little pouty at Flydra's attention drifting.

Flydra is messing with the trap and totally ******** shatters it
3/11 advances
1/2 minibosses defeated

"Hmmm." Flydra sized up the trap on the door. She wanted to configure it to blast Leeroi in the face with some kind of gas trap for a laugh. Pulling some tools out of her kit, she began to tinker with it, handing Scorpa various things to hold on to while she fussed over it. The taller girl was a perfect assistant when it came to things like this. Flydra struggled to pry open part of the casing on the trap and grunted. Putting more pressure on it, she looked helplessly to Scorpa for a little aid right as the piece suddenly shattered in her hands.

Both girls looked at it in awkward silence. Technically it disarmed the trap but- that wasn't what she'd been trying to do, damn it! Well, at least Scorpa and Buffel wouldn't get hurt. Just on the off chance that it still worked, she pointed to Leeroi.

"We're in. Do your thing, muscle."

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.
The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!
You have encountered a ...

2. ... Grotesque... (-1 to all attacks)
3. ... Rotting... (+1 to all attacks)
4. ... Skeletal... (-1 on all accuracy rolls)
Dice 2
1. ... Armoured... (only 3 players per turn may use a special artifact/ability/item)
2. ... Oozing... (-1 to weapon attacks that deal less than 6 damage)
3. ... Disemboweled... (-5 miniboss HP)
4. ... Swift... (players take 2x the amount of damage on their first turn)
Dice 3
1. ... Daywalker Captain!
2. ... Zombie Gerbil Pack!
3. ... Mutated Daywalker!
4. ... Undead Slime Lusus!
MINIBOSS STARTING HP: 20/20
If you rolled a 1, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 2, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 3, take 3 dmg.
If you rolled a 4, take 3 dmg.
If you rolled a 5, take 2 dmg.
If you rolled a 6, take 2 dmg. Your attack this turn does double damage.
If all party members reach 0hp, look below:
You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room,
you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached.
Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:

If this is your first mini-boss fight look below:

If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can close your eyes and draw on inner reserves to keep going. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Restore 1d10+3 OR 1/3rd (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Restore 1d8+2 OR 1/4th (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are training your skill: Restore 1d6+1 hp.
You cannot roll the dice then choose the flat restoration, one must be picked beforehand.

If a member of your team is a trained Troll Relations or Leadership specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can manage to cheer, rally, or cajole your teammates into finding more energy. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+3 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+2 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are training your skill: Each team member restores 1d4+1 (rolled separately) hp.

If this is your second mini-boss fight, you have reached the control room! Roll 1d4 and look in the spoiler below:

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*
2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*
If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.
Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

Leeroi couldn't help but laugh at Flydra. Why did all tealbloods have sticks up their asses? The other yellowblood lieutenant was fine. More than fine. The tealblood was just... irritable. He chose to be mostly indifferent to her, walking into the room and dealing with monster business as usual.

A powerful shotgun blast proved quite useful against this enemy. He took a step back to prepare his arm cannon for a follow-up blast.

Buffel had fought these things a few times now. Nothing new. They hate heat and hot lead worked just fine, so the gunslinger got to work doing what he does best. Firing shot after shot into the creature, he tried to take it down quick, both for it's sake and theirs. It squirmed and wretched to and fro at the sensation of those white-hot bullets sinking into is gelatinous form. Atendril of goop leapt out and swatted the lowblood with surprising force, and he clambered over to cover as he was knocked prone. Chuckling to himself as he wiped the blood from his lip, he called out to the tealblood, ”Guessin' you don't want any samples, huh Fly?”

Leeroi lined up his shot with his arm. Another gunshot from Buffel was enough to throw off his attention and distract him. The blast fired off, grazing the monster. Leeroi's eyes widened, and he let out a low growl. Ugh, he couldn't be embarrassing himself here!

He took a couple of deep breaths, just like Psykgi taught him. He refused to let himself get mad at the lowblood for making him miss his shot. If the lieutenants were assholes, so be it. His own lieutenant was an a*****e. He knew he was great, and one misfire wasn't going to change that. Through gritted teeth, he came to terms with it.

The slime beast raged against Buffel as Scorpa ran around the edge of the room to flank it with the others. She knew Leeroi wouldn't be thrilled about her moving in for close combat but she used a sword! It was hard for her to stay out! Hopefully he'd understand she was just moving in for the kill now that they'd gotten the monster's attention. She stayed just out of range while waiting for an opportunity to zip in and strike. It was hard to hang back, Scorpa had never been good at being patient, but she persevered. Any second now...

BANG! She saw her shot in Leeroi's misfire. It commanded the attention of everyone in the room, including the slimebeast. Soaring into the air, she raised her blade behind it and sliced the thing in two! Her sword met with some resistance but she brought it down hard and swift. Scorpa then rolled forward to catch herself and stood up with a grin.

"Awesome assist, Leeroi! I wasn't expecting that!" She seemed to think he had been distracting the monster on purpose. Or at least she was deciding that's what it was for everyone's pride involved. The yellowblood didn't like how the blueblood was heckling her moirail but also saw it light a fire in Flydra that wasn't often lit. She'd allow it for now and monitor if it drove Flydra forward into new focus and discoveries with her research. If it didn't, she'd kick Buffel and Leeroi to the curb.

"Now then, it looks like the control panel is over there." Scorpa pointed, figuring they'd best finish this mission. She wanted to head back and wash off the slime. Scorpa didn't mind getting dirty, she loved a little mess. But she also liked to pamper herself and a bath sounded amazing after all the mudslinging that had filled this ship!

"Y-yes, that was very good, Leeroi." Flydra pouted. He had done so well in the battle, even making a distraction for Scorpa to follow up on! The two girls did not seem to realize he'd missed his mark. She tugged her pigtails in her hands and wished she were more capable like that in combat. Perhaps Leeroi Furore was worth more investigation than she'd thought. Even if she was still bothered about his relationship with Buffel. The yellowblood had not explained that much but the blueblood might be more forthcoming with details if asked while alone.

"Buffel, that was sloppy! You need to be more careful, you could have gotten seriously hurt while prone." The doctor scolded, wanting to bully her patient a little out of pettiness. She wanted him to feel unsure and embarrassed like she did! With her lecture over, she turned to fuss over the ship controls. She wanted Scorpa to come spoil her a bit to make her feel better but it would be immature to ask for that in front of the others.
