The loud sound of several bodies thudding against something caught his attention. Up ahead, a pack of daywalkers had fallen prey to the ship's spinning as well and slid down a hallway into the wall before them. It was startling but at least gave them advance warning to prepare!

"Zombies ahead, get ready!" Nucleo called out, heading in with his team. He was determined to not let the spinning stop him from protecting the others!

Lorata fought the urge to call headquarters to double check with them. She wouldn't allow the strangeness of this to hamper her squadron in any way! Even if that meant fighting zombies half on what had been the walls of the ship. Was she overthinking it or was the change in orientation beginning to happen a little faster? Had to ignore it for now and keep fighting!

"AaahhhhHH!!!" Amonee screamed as the zombies crawled and climbed after them, even with the ship turning like this. He tried to kick and swing at them with his club, managing to take out a few. His biggest success, however, was ripping a light fixture from the now reachable ceiling and bashing it in the faces of the remaining zombies. They fell down instantly, unable to survive the shards of glass.

"Over here!" Nucleo called, a little distance away. He'd lost track of his footing in the battle and fallen. In his attempt to get up he'd noticed a door that he probably would've passed by without thinking. Standing up, he tried to tug it open to no avail. It seemed they would need Lorata to take a crack at it! He really hoped she'd be able to take care of it because his dizziness was getting worse by the second. The sooner they were off this ship the better.

Lorata studies the door for weaknesses

Lorata stared uneasily at the door as she crouched above it. Yes, it was definitely locked and yes she knew how to unlock it, but she hadn't trained for it at this ridiculous angle. She gave Nucleo and Amonee a reassuring smile, because they probably needed one as much as she did, and got to work.

Lorata unlocks with academics

It took a fair bit longer to work through at this angle than she liked, but eventually the lock gave way with an audible click. Triumphant, she twisted the doorknob, but she'd failed to account for the fact that she was still on the door itself. She fell through with a shriek. There were eyes in the darkness.

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.

The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*

2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*

If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.

"Where are they?" Nucleo frowned, looking around. He could see the equipment and cargo used to care for gerbils like he'd seen many times before in these ships. But where were the creatures that always came along with it? The greenblood didn't like the suspense. This feeling of waiting- dread. Entering the room, he looked around and tried to not get too disoriented. It was proving difficult.

Then the sound of screaming filled his ears and something flooded down upon them and he was knocking gerbils away frantically to protect himself!

Lorata's reassuring smile came at the right time as she fiddled with the lock, eventually opening the door. He had been dreading this the moment they realized it was locked. Only bad things lurked in these kinds of rooms. He hadn't been in a closed room yet that hadn't ended without someone getting hurt. But thankfully, when they entered, everything was empty! Perhaps that was because everything was upside down? The zombies must've gotten tossed around when the ship began to move. Ha!

But it could never be that easy. Something rumbled in the floor, or perhaps what was now the 'ceiling'. He didn't like the sound of that. He grabbed for Nucleo's hand out of fright but the other boy was already busy preparing for what was to come.

Gerbils began to flood out of the ventilation system. Pouring from the heat vents, which meant from overhead. It was raining hell upon them and he screamed as loudly as he could before swinging wildly with his club. A few smashed against the wall from the impact.

"OH MY GLOB-"

Amonee and Nucleo had come in after her before she could be well and truly swarmed, but a few of the evil gerbils had managed to get some bites in anyway. Screaming again, she swung wildly at them. If she could just get back on her feet and assess the situation better-!

That was it! She fumbled for her goggles, then the room lit up as the artifact awakened. She quickly finished off the gerbils (none of them could hide from her like this) but her newfound vision prevented new problems. "We're going to have to either start stacking things or wait for the ship around a bit more," she said, frowning directly up at the doorway they'd come through. Maybe she'd been right about it speeding up. Maybe she hadn't been. For once she wasn't sure which she preferred.

"Stacking things is a good idea. Please, let us-" Amonee hurried to help lift and move some crates around to create a path out of the room. It was an unusual problem, trying to reach a door above them. Space was full of surprises, most of them bad. He grunted and pushed the boxes into place. Thankfully, there were only three of them and they could easily crawl their way up and out of the dead gerbil graveyard.

The only problem?

"Oof, this door. Something's not right." Great, after all that effort, they still couldn't get out!

"I'll try." Amonee was a brave and wonderful troll but he wasn't exactly known for his strength. Nucleo didn't feel particularly strong right now, unless you counted a strong gag reflex, but he would do what he had to for the team. He pulled himself over to the door, fighting against gravity's pull. Once he was there he started pulling at the door and fussing with it only to realize....

"Oh, it's locked." The greenblood flushed and moved aside. Lorata would have to handle this task. He hope she could do it quick before they were spun back to the opposite wall!

Lorata does the academic thing, but fails

As Lorata worked on the door's lock, thankfully now back on a wall even if i was a bit...upside down, there was a sudden jerk. The ship shuddered and her feet, she realized abruptly, came off the ground. Her lockpicking tool tumbled out of her hand in her shock and her attempt to swipe it was a total miss. The only way to get the door open now would probably be to get momentum by pushing off the far wall and using brute force, but...

"Just another small setback," she said, not at all nervously. Unfortunately her swimming skills didn't actually do much good in zero g.

"No, we are getting out of this room!" Amonee huffed as they began to float. The sensation would have been kind of fun at any other time and place. He tried several attempts to push off the walls and floors and ram the door with little luck. It was simply too hard to build up the momentum to burst through it. Which meant they would have to try something harder.

Fishing a crowbar from the debris, he wrenched it in the door and began tugging on it. The only thing they could do was try to pry the door open at this point. Using as much force as he could, Amonee cried out as it finally broke free but the crowbar spun wildly out of control and crashed into his face. He curled into a floating ball, covering it with his hands as he cried. The jadeblood would be okay but it would leave a painful green mark for at least a day.
