"Bahaha! I'm always in perfect form!" Even if she'd been hit with the cieling earlier. Minor setback, is all, and it added to the experience! Though it was kinda sad to watch him brutally destroy the zombgerb. Forera covered Reefy's eyes-- To protect it's innocence.

Turning back to the others, Forera looked around the room-- Nope. "Not the room we're lookin' fer, ye?" The tealblood confirmed with a pout, but suddenly shrugged. "Ehh, we got this! Ya'll did SO GOOD! Watchin' yall made me wanna FIGHT Y'ALL!!" She yelled, this time with more fervor. She wanted to fight them both-- Aprife she knew she could whenever, but Sarcel was a military official. This meant she could maybe see the strength of what the military was packing, one on one. She slapped her hands together, grinning. "Am so ready fer this!"

That definitely sounded like a thing Forera would say, and honestly, Aprife wasn't the type to deny her the satisfaction, at least in that case. They had to keep on their toes, after all. A good spar never hurt. It was a good opportunity to practice tactics.

"You know I'll be around after we're done here," he told her casually. Wasn't like he had anywhere else to go before his next mission. What interested him more, though, was whether or not Sarcel was interested in going a round with the tealblood. There was always so much to learn as a fly on the wall in those sorts of situations. Here he could observe her, of course, but when he had to do his own share of fighting, it made it a bit hard to get the full experience.

Sarcel actually seemed... to puff up a little, at that. Was it because she was rising to the challenge, or was she just genuinely amused? Maybe both? Turning away, the lieutenant actually cracked a small grin.

"Make it through this ship, and I might take you up on that Silcoe." Whoops, smile gone, but the tone of her voice was still light. "I'll never turn down a good fight, especially with an able opponent." Unless doing so was a waste of time or important resources. Fighting was something Sarcel was fairly fond of in current times... good stress relief, made her feel more competent, or gave her some ample fuel for self loathing if she lost to any particular foe--oh.

    Anyway.

"Gonna hit ya up, then!" The tinier troll exclaimed, punching him for added effect and wiggling a little in excitement. Fighting always made her energized. She looked back to Sarcel as her lips fell from the smile she'd held-- For a second there, Forera thought she'd seen a mirage, but the adults lighthearted tone only served to make her laugh heartily. "Oh damn, now I've gotta get through here unscathed! The minute we're off the ship, yer mine, Lieutenant!" She tapped her goggles in appreciation. "Good s**t! Aw crap, lets just keep movin', ya've gotten me so excited now!" The faster they got through it, the more they covered!

"Well, isn't this just beautiful," Aprife joked, managing to catch Forera's shoulder with a smack that was, for the most part, just as joking and friendly as her own. No time for more small talk, though. As they stepped back out into the corridor, he prepared himself for anything. No daywalkers, luckily enough, but they did manage to come across an open door.

"I don't see any enemies." Before leaping in front of the opening, he'd stopped to peer around and get a good look inside. "Should be clear to search."

Right, small talk time was over. They had a ship to reclaim, dammit.

"Oh..." Sarcel had immediately set into rummaging around. Worst came to worst, they found nothing (or more gerbils), best case scenario they found something legitimately useful. In this case, she seemed to have discovered a map of sorts--maybe blueprints? If it was for the same ship they were currently on, then bingo.

"Have a look at this you two." She presented it to them both for inspection.

A LOCKED DOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RERA STRENGTH SMASH!!!!

Forera was very pleased at how pleasant this was going. Everyone seemed jovial, and the tealbloods mouth spread wide when they continued. They'd have more time to talk after!

The minute Sarcel showed them the map, something in Forera's head clicked. "Wait a sec, ain't that..." Forera easily swiped it out of Sarcel's hands, squinting at it. She had glanced into some hallway that looked quite similar, earlier, and— Forera was off, taking the front line, hand clutching to the paper in her hand, only slowing when she found the door on the shred of paper. She gave it a quick, hesitant look over before slamming her foot through it easily— It'd only been locked, not trapped— The security system was a bit light. She cackled and called out to her teammates from the hallway— "Yo, I found it! s**t ya'll, I think— oops, there's somethin' in there—" Hey, at least she checked the door before she went through!

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.

The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!

You have encountered a Putrid Bellicose Mutated Daywalker!

Dice 1

1. ... Enraged... (-1 to all attacks)

2. ... Jawless... (+1 on accuracy rolls)

3. ... Putrid... (-1 on all accuracy rolls)

4. ... Decomposing ... (+1 on all attacks)

Dice 2

1. ... Skeletal... (-5 miniboss HP)

2. ... Bellicose... (players take 2x the amount of damage on their first turn)

3. ... Armoured... (only 2 players per turn may use a special artifact/ability/item)

4. ... Burning... (take an extra 1 dmg each time you deal max damage (highest roll possible for weapon or damage-dealing skill))

Dice 3

1. ...Undead Ship Cook!

2. ... Mutated Daywalker!

3. ... Zombie Gerbil Pack!

4. ... Daywalker on Fire!

MINIBOSS STARTING HP: 30/30

If you rolled a 1, take 4 dmg.

If you rolled a 2, take 4 dmg.

If you rolled a 3, take 3 dmg.

If you rolled a 4, take 3 dmg.

If you rolled a 5, take 2 dmg.

If you rolled a 6, take 2 dmg. Your attack this turn does double damage.

If all party members reach 0hp, look below:

You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room,

you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached.

Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:

If this is your first or second mini-boss fight look below:

If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can close your eyes and draw on inner reserves to keep going. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.

If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Restore 1d10+3 OR 1/3rd (rounded down) of your hp.

If you are a Novice in your skill: Restore 1d8+2 OR 1/4th (rounded down) of your hp.

If you are training your skill: Restore 1d6+1 hp.

You cannot roll the dice then choose the flat restoration, one must be picked beforehand.

If a member of your team is a trained Troll Relations or Leadership specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can manage to cheer, rally, or cajole your teammates into finding more energy. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.

If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+3 (rolled separately) hp.

If you are a Novice in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+2 (rolled separately) hp.

If you are training your skill: Each team member restores 1d4+1 (rolled separately) hp.

If this is your third mini-boss fight, you have reached the control room! Roll 1d4 and look in the spoiler below:

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*

2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*

If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.

Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

Aprife had just leaned in to get a look at the paper when Forera snagged it for herself, taking off down the hall. The look he offered Sarcel was one half apologetic, one half amused. Though he wasn't sure how she'd actually take it, as long as they were making progress and as long as they kept knocking s**t out, he didn't really care.

Catching up with Forera, he gave her a pat on the shoulder. "Good work," he said and it actually sounded genuine. Looking into the dimly lit room, he could see the outline of something vaguely troll-shaped backlit by flickering emergency lights. "Hey, at least it's not gerbils, right?" A shuffling in his pocket seemed to agree.

"Well, let's get this over with. Looks like there's only one. I'm gonna try and immobilize it." As Aprife rushed forward, that's when the smell really hit him. It was like nothing he'd experienced before and he lived in a goddamn swamp for ******** sake.

He coughed, clutched his throat, and the slight hesitation gave the daywalker time to manage a slow but heavy hit on him. Yellow blood mingled with slimy, decaying flesh and Aprife hissed. No way he'd let this zombie get the better of him. He'd follow through with his plan.

With a snap of his whip, he managed to wrangle the monster's feet and yank them right out from under it. It went down with a squelchy thud.

While this time it wasn't gerbils to the delight of her tiny Reefy, the tealblood's attitude could hardly be pleased by the smell waffling around the room. It was disgusting, and a small part of Forera had to hold off letting her imagination get too wild— the tealblood squinted and pulled the blue cloth off her shoulder, tying it around her face and buckling down— she prepared her fists for combat, mouth curling into an unseen sneer as the tealblood bounded over toward the monster with a sturdy pep to her step and slammed a fist into its face. The thing smelt horrible, but at least the cloth prevented anything from getting in her mouth. "Stand back y'all!"

Forera prepared herself for another attack, biting her piercing's button and feeling the energy flow into her and fuel her desire to destroy. She lunged but was unexpectedly slugged in the stomach— Grabbed it's arm and used that against it to hold it steady and slam a kick into its face. The mutated arm was now in her hand, having dislodged from its shoulder. Forera backed off some and stared at it. What even happened to these monsters...? She used the monsters arm to point at it. "Y'all got this s**t!" She cheered, grinning widely and waving the putrid arm around. Maybe she could punch it with its own hand!

Well, there went the tealblood. Sarcel frowned a little--looked a little exasperated maybe--but they were all getting the job done, and that was all that really mattered in the end. She was behind Silcoe the entire step of the way.

Well, until they were assaulted again.

"Hold it steady!" Sarcel was already loading her gun, but exhaustion had started to gnaw at her muscles and it left her movements somewhat shaken as a result. Despite that, her nerves were still steeled, and her expression was harsh and ready for a beatdown. Her knuckles cracked; just enough time for her to get into position. "Nifera, get ready to let go right before I hit!" She didn't want the yellowblood to get caught in her fire, after all.

A swift punch to the abdomen left not a whole lot of undead meat left. It was probably overkill, but when the creature staggering and disorientated...

One second there, next second not. It was a trick that never really got old, because even when a foe was anticipating it, it was difficult to predict just which direction the next hit was going to come from. Thankfully she didn't need to follow through with the entire set up, because the undead creature was haggard and all but dead for a second time. It weakly lashed out where Sarcel had been standing a moment ago...

And Sarcel delivered a swift kick to its back, the mangled remains seeming to finally come apart with the force of the blow. Sarcel stood there triumphantly, coated in scratched and layers of deep blue, but still regained a certain dignified look.

She was wiping off her metal gun fixture. "Crew, at ease." Her hand gave the okay for them to stand down. "I believe we've found the control room. Does anyone have any serious injuries we need to address?" They both looked alright, but Sarcel knew a thing or two about hiding weaknesses. The last thing she wanted on a successful ship report was news of an injured crew mate, or worse--a dead one.

"No," he replied, "I'm alright." Something told him Forera was, too, if her demeanor was any indication. "Though I do think it's best we figure out whether this ship is functional quickly and get moving before more daywalkers show up."

A few of the control panels looked worse for wear, honestly. Wires stuck up between broken pieces of metal and buttons and switches were missing all over the place. It wasn't hard for Aprife to tell what needed flipped after a short examination, though.

"Unfortunately, I don't think this ship is gonna move again." He'd flipped and switched and nothing powered back on.

Sarcel's face was blank. There wasn't any disappointment, but there didn't seem to be any joy either. Instead she hovered behind Bombee for a long moment as he fiddled with the controls.

After a while, she sighed, though this time it wasn't quite so exasperated sounding. If anything, she looked relieved. "So it goes." Obviously, there was a little more glory in bringing a ship back rather than having to detonate it, but at the end of the night it was necessary all the same. Blowing a ship up was still part of the job, and it still helped more than leaving it to float around the planet in endless orbit. "I have the detonation materials right here. We'll scatter them around on the way back to the pod."

As she started to undo her pocket to provide the supplies she paused, her hands stilling. Something thoughtful crossed her face before she straightened herself back up, offering both of the other adults a small salute.

"It was a pleasure working alongside both of you."
