"I think we should be careful about this one." Amonee wrapped an arm around himself and crouched down to get a look at the door's locking mechanism. Sometimes these things were trapped and still activated. He wasn't sure how the traps still worked while the rest of the ship wasn't powered on but it was scary stuff. Thankfully this one was just locked without any obvious signs of a trap. He looked to the other girls helplessly.

"Can anyone pick locks?"

The juggalo was given an order! Or a chance, to prove herself. She beamed at her team, so excited to be able to help all these wonderful people out. The juggalo turned to the door, and gave it a determined smile... Her smile faltered a little... this is what she was training to deal with, but of course, once it came time to do her job, the thinkpan went blank.

Lorata tries to unlock it and succeeds.

Oh. Lorata had hoped Punkie would get the door open. She'd gotten kind of used to Tevini and Forera opening them for her on the last ship, they'd gotten so efficient at it. This one didn't seem to be trapped though, so if it was just a lock, she could...Aha. The lock clicked open and she smiled as she pushed the door open.

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.

The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*

2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*

If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.

Why was it always gerbils? Entering the room, Nucleo got to work stomping and kicking as the critters scurried around on the floor beneath him. It was gruesome but he'd rather just get it over with than think about it too much. Think about lush forests and mountain views instead!

Several stomps later and Nucleo could tell this was going to take too long. He summoned forth his clones who immediately noted the situation and got to work. Slamming around the room, Nucleo and the clones tried to clear it out without catching any of their teammates in the fray!

Punkie looked at the thing, determination evident on her face. "For the ******** Messiahs!" She screamed in battle cry as she lept at the monster. Much to her shame tho, the floor was covered in goop. She flew through the air, and slipped on some goop, her body flopping face forward onto the ground. It was luck that one of her carving knives flew forward to poke the monster.

"Punkie! Are you oka-" Amonee gasped as he watched the girl slip around in some goop. He was so scared that the gerbils would get her while she was was down! He reached to help her up and stepped on a couple of them in the process accidentally. Gross... but he supposed they had to kill or be killed by the pesky beasts. Punkie's knives made contact with some more of them and he just tried to stay out of the way mostly.

Zombie gerbils again, and this time they were oozing. Lorata resisted an urge to throw up and she hurried in to help keep the horrible little creatures off of Punkie after she fell. It was almost like the things were just trying to be more and more awful now.

They were hard to hit though, and Lorata reached up to pull her goggles down. When she pressed the button on the side in, the goggles began to glow brightly. It was easier to hit the monsters after that, now that she could predict where they would be before they got there.

The hallway seemed to grow longer as each foot step echoed, as if calling for the zombies to attack. It was the anticipation, really, that got to the thinkpan. The fact that at any moment they could come out, full throttle, and attack. The undead; lurking, waiting, and ready to fill their thinkpans with dayterrors.

"Anyone want a pick me up?" Nucleo asked as he poured some coffee from his thermos after battle. He wasn't sure he was supposed to be doing that, since it wasn't technically relevant to the mission but this little touch from home was really important to him right now. The scent of being cozy and warm, snuggled safely on the couch. He gave everyone a cup and a few minutes of quiet to re-center themselves in peace.

"Thanks, Nuke." Amonee sipped at his coffee slowly, savoring the taste. It was a brief moment of cozy quiet after the chaos of a fight. He felt much better just from the familiar scent and taste because it brought back memories of being back home where it was safe and happy. Maybe after this, they could go check on Xavier, Eilidh and Caiden. He wanted to see his friends again badly.

The coffee felt warm in Punkie's hands. She loved the smell and how it all seemed to warm one up from the inside. Sure, it was actually not all that great without punkin spice, but it was still good. Really, give anything a nice big serving of punkin and everything gets significantly more delicious. "Thanks an assload Nucleo!" She chirped once her cup was empty.

Ah good, Nucleo had brought coffee again! Lorata slid her goggles back up, letting the light in them dim again. It had been weird the first time she'd realized he'd had it ready, but now it seemed genius. She accepted her cup with a bright smile and sipped at it.
