And then his mirror shattered on its own. Shun tossed the remains aside, trying to not to cut himself with the glass. Both paths he had seen looked relatively normal at first glance, with the exception of him being out in the middle of space or something if Ezra succeeded.

His eyes narrowed at Ezra when he mentioned the Xanatos gambit. He was implying that he was going to come out the victor no matter what they did here.

"How about we step outside, Lord Ezra?" he suggested, going along with Chester's idea.

Nasir jerked as the mirror shattered, the vision of a different Ezra at the ball still clear in his mind. He looked up at the one they had, instead, and shook his head.

"So, what, you're some kind of machiavellian mastermind from a nineties cartoon? That no matter what you get what you want?" he questioned Ezra. His hands were still clenched around the handle of the broken hand mirror, the knuckles had gone white. "... but ... you can't get everything you want. Anything is possible here, we should be able to do something."

Wasn't that what they had said about the magic? Anything was possible? Nasir wanted Sonny. If the magic was theirs then- then they could do something but it was a foolish, stupid thought.

"You piece of rotted, ********' filth," she snarled. Preacher unfolded herself and walked towards Ezra. "You think ya can undermine everythin' jus' ;cause you wanna play ********' house with ya girls. A goddamn personal utopia for only you. Selfish." Preacher had worked so, so hard. Every shred of independence she'd fought for - 'that's all you're good for - a pretty doll, shame about the freckles. Hah, what if she grows up ugly, hun?' - every time she'd had to pretend she was clumsy to explain her bruises, every ******** trucker who'd leered at her on the long hitch-hike to Ashdown, and the one who'd pawed at her thigh until they'd slowed enough that she could launch herself out the door, tuck and roll, tuck and roll.

"You don't get to decide what happens for me." Preacher hauled back and slapped him. Or, it would have been a slap if she'd used an open hand instead of a closed fist.

Lily sulked further into the wall as events progressed and plans were laid bare. She didn't catch the reference Ezra made, but she inferred enough of its meaning by the reactions of the others. Whatever mess that was about to happen was going to happen whether they liked it or not, at least to some degree. Whatever they had been trying to achieve would not come to pass the way they'd intended. On some level, Lily was okay with this fate for herself, though it unsettled her to see the distress in Nasir, the cold contempt in Eve.

And then the righteous anger in Preacher, as she slapped down the very eldritch fire orchestrating their demise.

"You know what, some fresh air sounds like a great idea," Lily chimed in, oddly cheerful as she lifted herself from the leaning position she'd adopted in the past few minutes. She gave Shun a pointed look, then began jogging for the pair, looking to intercept at least something of the hell that was coming to pay. "Let's just head outside and take a breather, then."

"As you like, dear boy," said Ezra to Shun.

Before anyone could take anyone anywhere, Preacher punched Ezra. He laughed. He laughed. His head snapped to the side, his glasses went flying, and he laughed. "You didn't learn, did you," said Ezra, "You ended up in the hospital, stupid girl, and you didn't learn?"

Where Preacher's fist had connected, Ezra's skin was peeling back. There were flames licking from between his exposed teeth.

"No," he said. "I've changed my mind. I have no desire to leave."

Quote:
ITS ******** PARTY TIME

Ezra Combat Mechanic
Your HP: 40 (differentiated) 50 (undifferentiated) -10 for having an Ezra’s X power
Ezra will be defeated once he has taken 750 damage.
At this point, you may kill him, or simply subdue him.

Roll 1d10 once per round. If your roll is higher than the GM’s roll, then Ezra takes 10 damage. If your roll is lower, or your character physically attacked Ezra, take one stack of burning. Magical attacks do not stack burning.

Burning inflicts 5 damage per round. You may have infinite stacks of burning.

Characters may forgo their roll against the GM to remove one stack of burning from another character, stabilize an unconscious character, or heal 5 damage on their own character.

Should your character hit 0 HP, they have become unconscious. Unconscious characters are out of the fight. Unconscious characters lose 1HP a round as well as any burning damage they accumulated. They cannot accumulate any more burning damage. Unconscious characters are stable and no longer lose 1HP per round once their health is up over 1, but they do not wake up. If a character’s HP goes down to -15HP or lower, they are dead.

Shun didn't really relax all that much when Ezra agreed to step out. He also didn't like the whole 'dear boy' nickname that had been dropped there. The guy was still too compliant. He was too confident that everything was going to go his way. Maybe they could use this, if he was too complacent.

He was about to start stepping out with Lily when Preacher had gone on to strike the guy. And thus the first blow had been dealt.

"Oh for ******** sake," he grunted out irritably. On one hand, he wouldn't mind beating him down. And he supposed if it came down to killing Ezra... subduing him first would make doing just that easier. So far, it did look like things were going to go down that path anyway.

As flames began to form, he hopped back and away from the Burning Man. Pulling on the magic from OAD, he made a gesture at the shadows at Ezra's feet. They shot up to start winding around his legs if possible, before freezing over and becoming solid. He was just trying to root him in place for now. Possibly restrain. Seeing how he hasn't actually struck back... yet, he was trying something that might not involve direct harm immediately. This probably won't last.

"As much as I would not mind beating you down, how about everyone settle the ******** down before this whole damn room gets set on fire?" he hissed.

"<********>," Lily spat, flinching away from the sudden flames. All semblance of holding back her panic was over, and just as sudden as her heart began to beat in overdrive she found herself infused by a smooth, otherworldly calm. Preacher had struck first, but she had not done so without cause, and she was pack, despite her protestations. Ezra sought to undo their work, would burn it all to the ground given the opportunity. Lily could not abide by that. She would not.

Lily called the shift to her, flexing her hands to shake off the discomfort of her nails darkening to claws. "You will leave," she stated, reaching for the meat of his forearm in spite of the flames. If he would not be moved, then he would be cut, and that was all the same to her.

"Mebbe yer right," she said, her own eyes burning (although perhaps not as literally as Ezra's). "Mebbe yer wrong." Preacher had learned that fire burned, so it was good that she'd gotten in a hit before his skin peeled back like an overripe orange, like an 80s horror movie.

Tugging off her shoe (shiny, new ones, police-issue), she ******** chucked it at his face.

"<******** christ," Alg muttered darkly before shooting out of his seat faster than most had ever seen him move. The cursing though, not so odd.

"STOP!" The paralyzing scream rippled out of the Professor, aimed and focused on Ezra. It wasn't intent to harm him, in fact his only thoughts were stopping him from hurting anyone. He wasn't even sure really if it would work on the Burning Man but he had to try.

This was good. People were at least considering moving their grievances outside, away from the sigil they had all worked so hard to build, the one that would probably be the beginning of a new future for some. And then Preacher punched the Burning Man in the face.

Chester took a short vacation from his swiftly building terror to sigh, pushing his glasses up over his forehead as he rubbed at his eyes. It was the fondest exasperation he had ever felt.

He gathered himself, glancing around for something to throw, because there was no way he was getting anywhere near Ezra unless he was forced, but nothing quite fit the bill. No knives or large rocks, not that he would have been proficient with either, only cups and mirrors and pastries. He reluctantly picked up a mug and aimed it at the Burning Man's head.

Cup thrown, he began to carefully retreat, conscious of the giant hole at his back, but he barely got two steps before Professor Mercer shouted and Chester froze in place. It hadn't been directed at him and he creaked back into motion soon enough, but it still was rather unexpected.

Mr. Bitterberry was the first to dart past the returning group in a burst of brilliant blue wings. He wanted to show everyone that he'd Got The Thing and that They Could Not Have. And then just as suddenly the bird was doing an immediate U-turn away from Ezra toward someplace safe and not on fire.

Nope.

Turning to look at Ezra, she hissed quietly to those nearby, "I thought y'all had that ******** geas s**t for this sorta thing!"

She gave a frustrated swipe of magic at Ezra's shoelaces, attempting to use lift to jerk his feet out from under him.

Jeremiah, once they popped back, watched as Mister Bitterberry flew off. He was leaning heavily on Cass, having to catch his breath this time. He felt as if he had run a marathon but knew, with a moment or two, he'd be alright.

Except that nothing was alright.

The moment he took stock of the situation, he started to growl. It was a noise that Cass would be able to feel, as close as he was at the moment.

"For ******** bloody sake," he said in a low voice. Jeremiah was absolutely not surprised but - at the moment - he was too winded to do anything.

He'd need a moment or two.

Nasir > HP 40/40 > one mini-sigil

Nasir was already on edge and when s**t hit the fan, things finally broke. He did the first thing that came to mind, fingers making frantic, harried gestures as he tried to fling, of all things, a snowball at Ezra.

Except that it, you know, broke apart into snowflakes because of the fire that was the Burning Man.

Of course.

The next several minutes after scrying were a bit of a blur to Erin. She couldn't quite make sense of what she'd been shown, only that it didn't seem to really help. The parchment was with two other people that wasn't Ezra, she assumed, but how that actually helped them was beyond her.

She was about to try scrying again when suddenly there was Erza and everyone else.

In a very tiny space.

And he was starting to flicker with flames.

Oh for ******** sake...

Erin flicked her fingers in the air, a glowing glyph that she poured the idea of "VOID" and "GRAVITY" into and then launched it towards Erza with the hope it did something decent.

Well they'd all come back to the d**k-punching-party and it hadn't even been put on hold for them to arrive. Somehow, Cassandra wasn't surprised. She was aware d**k-punching was something that needed to happen, but the fact they were in the middle of it meant that she'd missed the good part. AKA the beginning.

Not that she would run in to actually join the fray. Not until Jeremiah had caught his breath again and no longer needed to lean on her for support. Dad was more important than punching people - and maybe he'd be able to feel that. She could at least feel Jeremiah's discontent.

"Need me to do anything?" she looked up at him with concern.
