Hey! Aren't you that guy from TV?

The meet and greets had been a lot! So much. Almost too much. But Wander got to meet and greet, so maybe she was doing it right! She could only hope she left a good impression. But it was hard to know. Or ask. Asking Poe, he'd probably just tell her that she did. But he was nice. So while she wanted to trust him, sometimes she worried that maybe he didn't want to hurt her. She understood why, though. She did cry easily...

But Wander did not want to think about that. Really, she wanted to nap, but she didn't have any sopor patches for that. Maybe when Poe got back, they could try to buy some from a kiosk or something before their train came in. In the meantime, she was trying not to think too much as she sat on a bench, kicking her feet a little here and there. Kind of like with a swing.

Those booths sure were dazzling, though. She wished she could do that. Be a star on TV, get to sign things for people. Be noticed. That would be nice, but she never felt ready enough. And when she didn't technically exist...that made it even harder.

She sighed and scanned the people. Poe would be back eventually. Then she'd be distracted from her thoughts.

Abby, on the other hand, felt like today was the day to check Wander's hair for nits. That wasn't a distraction, just a nuisance. One to be ignored so maybe she'd stop.

Sascha wasn't sure if he could say he enjoyed trains or not. He hated sitting down for extended periods of time. He especially hated waiting for things. On the other hand, the train ride from Chittentown to New Hemisect was the most sleep he'd had in...

How long had Superstar Authority been going on now? A couple weeks? A perigee? Since the eve of the empire? Exhaustion was causing Sascha's internal clock to unwind. Sleeping out in the open was about as ill-advised as trollish behaviors got. His lusus surely would have given him an earful if she'd been present. However, it was the middle of the night in a train car full of equally tired and bored passengers. Sascha was going to take what shut-eye he could get, weak and slimeless as it was. If anyone tried to pickpocket him, it would at least have given Sascha something to do other than mentally rehearse his interview for the thousandth time.

Sascha groaned as he was reminded why he was standing on the New Hemisect train platform in the first place. For a brief moment he'd been in the peaceful haze of post-nap disorientation. Now he was awake and thinking again, much to his chagrin.

Where was he even going again? New Hemisect was even bigger than Chittentown, and Sascha hadn't been paying attention to which station he'd disembarked at. He needed to find a directory, lest he attempt to find the network headquarters in the entirely wrong direction. Sascha shoved his way through the crowd, heedless of the flow of traffic.

Wander had started thinking about getting to see Tsarzi at her booth, and meeting Poe's friend Fellah. That had been nice! Some pretty decent trolls from the Outside. Fellah had seemed like a very earnest guy with dreams similar to her own. Well. Not magic. Music instead of magic. But stardom! And that was really neat! Maybe she should have talked to him more... She frowned. Realizing she had a regret felt bad, and even more, realizing she wouldn't have known what to say anyhow. Chatting was hard. And maybe she should have met up with Frendo while she had been around. Mm, more regrets.

How icky.

She pursed her lips and started looking around more, pouting a little at her own bad attitude. Poe would be back and tell her it was all okay. Yeah, that'd be nice. And maybe Abby would be distracted by Poe's hair and not...hers. Well. It wasn't fun to watch her lusus harass other people. So maybe not that.

Wander shook her head a little, getting kinda officially irritated at Abby bothering her. Didn't she know Wander got anxious in crowds? Ugh. "Stop..." she mumbled. Abby, though, was satisfied at distracting Wander from whatever was on her mind now. The kid did that a lot.

And maybe she could...distract her even more! With other trolls! And maybe socialize! Abby climbed off Wander's head, crawled across the bench, then hopped onto a light pole. From there, she launched into the crowd of bustling trolls.

Wander gasped. "Abby, no!"

I didn't know what might get Wander to actually be active besides her lusus being a shithead :/

Between the horns of the crowd surrounding him, Sascha glimpsed the dimly list board indicating a map of the area. With an objective in view, Sascha plowed ahead. With his focus drawn narrow, he didn't notice the bushy white form directly above...

A light, but solid weight hit Sascha across the shoulders and white obscured his vision. Sascha opened his mouth to shout, but only ended up inhaling stray fur. Directory forgotten, Sascha was left wheeling across the platform, sputtering and spinning his arms furiously.

The other commuters gave Sascha a wide berth. They had places to be and the ability to see what a non-threat Abby was being to the noisy stranger in the sequined jacket. As Sascha recovered his ability to breathe, he too, recognized the creature on his torso was not mauling his face. He was also able to follow-up with the realization that this was someone's lusus.

Sascha struggled to keep Abby's wriggly tail out of his eyes as he scanned the crowd. "OI! DID SOMEONE LOSE SOMETHING!?"

Oh no oh no oh no. Wander could only watch in horror while someone became Abby's unwitting victim. But she couldn't just stand there while her lusus made a scene. As much as she would rather hide, she had to take responsibility. Wander shakily stepped over, wide-eyed and wringing her hands. "U-u-u-uuuh...." Her pumpbiscuit threatened to explode from pure terror. What was Abby thinking? At least it didn't look like a crowdd was forming... But this was still something of a spectacle.

She stopped up in front of Sascha, and having gone from worrying her hands to holding them at her sides, sparking a little.

Abby's ears perked upon seeing her charge come up close. Riding on taller trolls was like a rodeo, who knew? Dainty as a purrbeast, she hopped onto Wander's shoulders as if nothing had happened at all.

Wander shot her lusus a look, then gazed down at her shoes. "I-I'm s-sorry I-I-I d-don't know what s-s-she was thinking, I-I h-hope we can-" She dared look up at Sascha's face. It made her stop after a moment and squint. Then her eyes widened, and she was mortified again.

The orangeblood gulped. "Y-you're NOVA."

Abby watched on and flicked her tail. Oh, snap, she jumped on a celebrity? Dang, was she good at this!

Sascha stared down the crowd with a shrewd determination that was almost entirely a bluff. With all the fur and scampering and godawful tiny hands, Sascha couldn't actually see for s**t. He lucked out when all his bluster managed to summon a single troll from the throng that was otherwise quickly clearing the immediate vicinity.

Sascha didn't hear Wander at first. His only indication she had come forward was Abby's sudden change in targets. The little creature exchanged Sascha's shoulders for those of her charge. Sascha choked on a sneeze as her tail flicked past his nose.

The yellowblood had been in the process of readjusting his thoroughly-mussed hair when Wander recognized. Sascha immediately tuned back into the kid's words. She'd seemed appropriately apologetic given the circumstances, so he hadn't been paying her much mind. Meeting a fan, on the other hand, was far more engaging.

"That's me alright! Hot off the runway. Or railway, rather." Sascha prodded himself in the chest with a thumb and tossed Wander a practiced smirk. "You want an autograph or something?" Sascha's eyes lit up. He'd been recognized a few times previously in his hometown. He'd be old and withered by the time it got old, though. If ever.

Oh jeez oh jeez oh jeez oh jeez

Wander could just, maybe, die? You don't just see celebrities in real life! On the street and stuff!

Well, maybe besides Odette, the local Alternia's darling and also her role model but Odette was someone she knew she'd see sometimes because she went to the swamp. And there was only so much space in the swamp.

Versus. All of civilized Alternia. And it was a celebrity her lusus pounced.

Wander could just die on the spot, as far as she was concerned, and thought she probably would with how awful her head felt. God, if only Poe were here!

"Um...u-um..." But she couldn't just freeze, either, though she almost did for a moment there. Outwardly starstruck, inwardly dying. "I-If th-that's okay, I can try to..." She started pawing through her travel bag. As she did she couldn't help but natter in her awkward Wander-ly way about how cool his introduction had been on TV.

Most of the stuff she went through in her bag was the necessities, clothes and junk, and some of her magic stuff that started to spill out- whoops there went her cards onto the ground, which Abby at least was kind enough to hop down to and start picking up. Finally she pulled out a hotel notepad and a hotel pen. Totally...not swiped...from the hotel she and Poe stayed at.

But she sure didn't have the nerve to hold it out. Her hands shook, for many reasons.

Abby, seeing this opening where her charge was too nervous about whatever it was she was doing, got her own ideas. As per usual, she would have to save the day! With her collected cards, she climbed up Wander and sat on her shoulders, holding out the cards, gesturing between Wander and Sascha with a very familiar trick in mind.

Wander, for sure, caught onto what she was doing. "A-Abby, no, he probably d-d-doesn't have time for s-some dumb card stuff..."

Abby pushed the deck at her anyway.

Sascha's demeanor had done a complete 180. He wasn't an especially friendly looking man, but he was all smiles as Wander struggled to compose herself. He seemed to be making a show of smoothing out his clothing now, rather than the frustrated post-lemur readjustments of earlier.

Not that anyone was watching him at this point. The crowd of commuters were more concerned with navigating around Sascha, and Wander was far too preoccupied with her baggage. Sascha raised a brow at the resulting mess.

"What're you, a magician or something? Fortune teller? Ooh- card shark?" Sascha smirked slyly at his last suggestion. A nervous redblood would be the ideal troll to stake out and clean up a casino without drawing too much attention. That was the stuff good heist movies were made out of.

He leaned down to snatch the pen and napkin from Wander while she halfheartedly fought off her insistent lusus.

"You know any tricks?" Sascha supposed that was one thing all three career paths would have in common.

"Uh- U-uh..." Before she knew it, the deck was in her hands and NOVA had just listed off some guesses about her. As her face burned, she could at least admit that he seemed to know a lot of things! Card shark... That sounded kind of nice, actually.

"Th-the first thing... Magician. I-in training! Aaaaaa......" Wander shuffled her feet.

Tricks... She knew some of those. Her pride and joy, but as she thought about them now... "Y-yeah, but it's probably silly..."

Everyone knew the pick-a-card trick, probably. The more complicated ones needed a table... And either way, it really was silly. Wasting someone's time... Someone who had places to be!

"Magician in-training? They got some kind of schoolfeeding curriculum for that?" Sascha asked, only half joking. He handed the notepad back to Wander.

Wander continued, albeit softer and more haltingly. Sascha narrowed his eyes into a more serious expression. "Dude, I'm pretty sure the only qualifications for being a magician are one: tricks, and two: performing them. No one said anything about quality."

Sascha rolled his eyes and shrugged. Purposefully. Dramatically. "Besides, if you're taking the time training to be a magician, isn't being a shitty magician better than not being a magician at all?"
