Propped up against the wall, under a fine layer of sand, V'lon finds something.



This egg is medium sized, the shell is starting to harden, it is around a week old.

Mirath managed it once again.



This egg is medium sized, there’s some firmness to the shell, but it is less than a week old.

Better and better. Nothing left to clean up here either. She'd never truly appreciated how large the hatching sands were until she volunteered to help clean them up. If the candidatemaster or weyrlingmaster every needed a long tedious punishment, cleaning or raking the hatching sands would probably be it. It was hot, sand, and a lot of work!

With all the people she thought she spotted more trash in the area she'd already worked. It could be someone had walked by and disturbed it.

Although someone had disrupted the previously cleared section of cavern, there's nothing particular interesting there.

There. Raked over and neat. Fortunately her tidying hadn't turned up any kind of muck. Here and there she had spied some pure foulness scattered around. The less she had to deal with that the better. Best to just stay here and keep clearing areas that had already had the rubbish moved, she could just neaten things up. That was still helping after all. Her sack still empty, Telleara moved along, raking as she went.

Once again Telleara has a clear patch of sand to rake over. There's clear evidence someone has been digging around in here.

Nope, just her eyes playing tricks on her. She glanced toward the headwoman wondering when the signal that they were done was going to come. After a few moments, she knew it wasn't going to yet. Moluli moved on to the next spot that still looked like it needed some attention.

At the base of the stands there is a lump in the sand.

There was something there waiting for her attention alright. As she shifted through stuff, a lump of sand disintegrated around a huge blue firelizard egg. "Woah," she murmured softly to herself. That was a huge egg. She tucked it carefully into a pocket so she could finish. Just then she felt Starelth waking. Moluli could feel the dragon's hunger. Dumping her collected trash by the exit, she ran for her barracks.

Excellent, the clear sands continued. At this rate she might not even regret volunteering. Telleara quickly raked over the sand to get it to all lie flat again. She had to push some sand around with her foot to fill the hole that was already there, but that was hardly a trail. Another space neatly flattened and she was off once more.

There's a benefit to combing over where everyone else has been; everything's already been cleared away. However, there's also a drawback; everything's been cleared away.

"Should I keep two, or just one?" V'lon mused half to himself and half to Mirath as he poked around under another area of the stands.

Mirath shrugged mentally as he alighted on another ledge. //Two would be fine, one would be fine. But not three, that would give you four firelizards and that's too many.//

As V'lon poked around, something solid rolled out from under the stands.



This egg is small, the shell is completely hard and the occupant can be heard inside, it will hatch in the next day or so.

No sooner has Mirath landed than something becomes fairly obvious, sitting right in the middle of the ledge.

Okay, so how long did she actually have to do this before her "volunteering" was deemed completed? The work wasn't physically hard, not in comparison to some of the other things that the Weyr had set her to doing in the last few months. It was however hot, gritty and unpleasant. She'd not been here long and already she was sweaty, which was simply vile. Plus she could feel that sand had wormed into her boots. At least they were her working boots and not a pair she was genuinely attached to. They'd still need to be cleaned out before she wore them again. Hopefully, so long as she wasn't made to do anything other than standing work the sand wouldn't get anywhere else.

A gush of cold air blew against her face as Clay popped out of between. The brown regarded her quietly and then winged over to land on her shoulder, carefully minding that his claws did not catch in her clothing. Telleara was used to the firelizard's weight, so it wasn't too much of an inconvenience, besides the company would be appreciated for a short while at least.
