Name: Floren Chadra
Florens - prospering, flourishing, in Latin
Chandra - Moon, derived from the word “to shine” in Sanskrit

Blood colour: Jade green! #078446 ████

Gender: Male

Symbol: User Image

Profile:

Floren Chadra presents himself as charming young troll. He prides himself on being accommodating and likeable, preferring to get along with everyone rather than indulge himself in the more violent aspects of troll society. He is nurturing, rather than take advantage of weakness in another troll he would prefer to extend a hand and bring them back to their feet. This habit of caring for others extends to animals and plants as well. He thinks himself the best nurse, the best one to come to for anything - be it a bandage or a shoulder to cry on, Floren is there. Of course, as a young child he’s still learning how to do these things, but it’s his main interest in life.

What his tendency to care for others often means though, is that he comes off as creepy. Rather than let people close to him deal with their own issues, he tends to butt in and patch them up, even going so far as to tell people how to handle their own interpersonal issues that don’t get violent. While Floren isn't against violence, he does try to avoid it and tends to advocate it in others- depending on their hue. He can come off as controlling when he gives "advice" on how to handle verbal spats. Try pointing out that it might stunt their ability to fend for themselves, and he insists it’s just not true. Jadebloods were meant to care for others, after all. He’s just doing his job (even if it really isn’t his job and never was or will be). While he genuinely can be easy to get along with, those that butt heads with his own ideals soon find out that he’s not as passive as he presents himself to be. Despite believing that Jadebloods are meant to care for others, Floren is not above violence. Especially if he thinks he’s protecting someone (or something.)

In fact, he does believe that it’s a natural part of troll society. He fully buys into the idea that all trolls are naturally violent, and isn’t often phased by it happening in night-to-night life. So long as he gets to do what he considers to be his duty, he’s satisfied. Floren’s interest in caring for others sprang up when he came upon some text concerning what Jadebloods used to do. This opened up a whole can of worms for him. Why weren’t they in the caverns anymore? Would they return to their old duties in the future? Why didn’t he have a virgin mothergrub for a lusus? Floren is more than a little obsessed with the past and hungers for more knowledge about what was lost.

Floren loves his lusus, even if he resents not being chosen by a mothergrub. If he could, he’d have them both. Skoli is unconcerned with Floren’s burning interest in the history of Jadebloods, nor the warning signs that his charge may be fixating too hard on it. To him, Floren is just curious.

Concerning the hemospectrum, he believes that it has its place and is mostly correct. He is respectful of highbloods and lowbloods alike, but tends to be a little more condescending to lowbloods. Subconsciously, he believes them to be largely fragile and easy to break - but all the more reason for him to look after them, right? Despite believing in the hemospectrum, he does think that Jadebloods should be a special exception based on their rarity. Clearly, they belong more with the highbloods than fellow midbloods.

Another contributing factor to his belief that Jadebloods are inherently more "special" than other greenbloods is their unique ability to be out in the sun. Floren spends a good amount of time out in the sunlight, though with Skoli's inability to be exposed to it for very long he doesn't often stray far from his home. It's a rather frustrating thing for him- as he would like to explore the desert around his hive, but the daywalkers are too much of a threat for him to handle by himself while he's still young. As far as the vague legends of rainbowdrinkers, Floren does not know very much about them but considers them to be just that: legends. Clearly it was just some trolls of another caste making things up, likely some sort of confusion with their ability to walk in the sun?
He hasn't given it much thought but vaguely assumes that's where the legends come from.

Since he is still young and cannot actually care for anyone, Floren has taken to raising animals and watching over a small garden. Having started with bugs, he’s recently moved to small mammals and reptiles. Floren’s hive is littered with habitats for all of his “pets.” Not all of which are store bought- often he takes in injured creatures he finds and tries to nurse them back to health. Or… he finds a seemingly abandoned baby and brings it to his hive to raise it- clearly it was going to die on its own (never mind that its parent would probably come back for it soon enough). Eventually he would like to learn how to rehabilitate them to release them back into the wild… or just find new caretakers for them.

Since he lives in the desert surrounding Chittentown, Floren’s garden is largely succulents. He’d like to eventually get to a point where he can grow his own herbs to use in medicinal remedies. He’s even taken an interest in potentially learning how to hybridize plants to make new varieties that may have different uses!

In addition to his rudimentary veterinary skills, he’s also taken an interest in troll medicine as well. He wants to provide the best care that he can, and knowing how the body actually works is just a natural part of that. He doesn’t really foresee himself becoming a doctor, but the option is there.

Strengths:

  • Nurturing:
Floren will care for just about anything that needs caring for. Whether it be a plant that’s just not doing so hot, or the neighbor kid that needs patching up, Floren is there to provide care and make things better again. This gives him a seemingly easy-going nature and allows him to accept the differences in most people- each person is different and requires different methods of care, after all.

  • Dedicated:
Once he’s hooked on something, Floren sees it through to the end. He’s not one to balk at responsibility and generally doesn’t half-a** things. If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right and to the end.

  • Diplomatic:
Differences happen- and Floren is accepting of that, for the most part. Save for combating his need to figure out the past and go back to how things were, Floren is generally accepting of how other people behave. He’ll console even the most violent of trolls, if they’ll let him, and will save any lectures for later if he even has one.

Flaws:

  • Obsessive:
With that dedication comes obsession. If something draws his attention too much, or isn’t easily accomplished, Floren has a tendency to throw himself at it completely. He loses a sense of time, often forgetting to eat or sleep in favor of working on whatever the task is at hand. He can become irritable if disturbed or told to drop subjects.

  • Arrogant: <--Replacing "Controlling"
Though he may not seem it at first, Floren truly does think he knows best and believes himself to be very good at what he does. He has a tendency to look down on the skill of others until they can prove themselves to be just as good, if not better, than his own skill level. Those that don't make the cut are often treated to his own brand of being patronized. Confidence in his skills is one thing,
but Floren often closes his ears to constructive criticism from people he doesn't believe worthy enough to give him criticism.

  • Stubborn:
Floren does his best to be accommodating for others and is usually willing to go with their flow, but try to interrupt his own flow or change his ideas when he’s not in the proper mindset and it will quickly become clear that he is very set in his ways. Floren clings to his ideals tightly, and is loathe to give them up without a fight. This can make it difficult to get through to him about potentially problematic behavior. This also leaks into his idea of how care should be handled with others- he has his own mental picture of how to take care of those that come to him for help, and challenging him on it (even if its the person needing help) usually ends with him ignoring whatever is being said. When first pressed he's generally good about putting on a smile and a "I'll think about it!" when approached about his behavior or beliefs, which is rarely ever followed up on. If someone cares enough to continue pressing, he reacts first with harsh words and lectures about leaving him to his own devices- rarely does he get violent in matters of differences of belief unless he feels his lifestyle is at risk.

Weapon: A Bo Staff with a blade at the end.

Appearance: There is a helpful doodle over there-- the only not obvious thing is his hair! The back is fluffy and he has a section like a sort of... rat tail... that's wavy and goes to about the lower back in length. Not all of it is long which is why it looks pretty fluffy aside from that long bit. {Outfit was designed by quite!}

He has tiny fangies that poke out- one on each side of his mouth. ; D

Home:

Floren makes his home in the desert surrounding Chittentown. He lives far enough away to have plenty of space should he want it, but close enough to not be totally cut off. From a distance, Floren’s hive seems rather modest if not for the large lawnring. A one story hive, jade green in color, with various desert plants peppered throughout the area is all most people see.

Inside, Floren has a main living block and culinary block combination - usually this is as far as visitors get if they aren’t injured. He has a makeshift “recovery room” with a spare recouperacoon and various first-aid supplies further in the back of the hive. He also has a guest block, just in case. In the very back is another room that just has a staircase leading under the hive itself- this room is usually locked.

Floren’s actual respiteblock is underground. Since his lusus rarely surfaces, Skoli has dug out quite the system of tunnels under Floren’s hive and the surrounding area. Skoli carved out a room for Floren to use as well.

Both parts of his hive are home to the various animals and plants he collects- most are in their own little caged habitats, but some of the larger ones are free to roam about the hive.

Lusus:

Skoli is a massive carnivorous wormlike creature- resembling a Graboid but with plated shell around his body (save for his stomach) that protect him from damage. He's about 15 feet in length, and about 5 feet across at his head. He is still growing for a lusus of his species. Skoli is completely blind, and sees the world through vibrations alone. He can sense where Floren is by the “sound” of his footsteps, and knows he’s in danger when Floren stomps three times. He rarely surfaces, as being above ground makes it difficult for him to “see.” Unlike Floren, he cannot be out in the Alternian sun. This leaves the impression that Floren is completely unattended by a lusus altogether, but should anything or anyone attempt to do his charge any harm, Skoli makes his presence known with deadly accuracy. While he doesn't surface very often, it isn't impossible for him to be above ground. He does possess several sets of legs that he can use to move around above ground should Floren need to go somewhere (at night) where Skoli can't follow underground. Since he sees through vibrations alone, he discourages Floren from doing this very often as it makes it hard for him to be an effective guardian. His size does make it difficult to navigate cities, so as of yet Floren has not ventured far into heavily populated areas.

Despite wishing that he had a Mothergrub for a lusus, Floren loves Skoli very much. Since his personal blocks are underground, he spends a good deal of time with his lusus when he's at his hive. Skoli doesn't understand most of what Floren talks about, and Floren knows it, but he likes to tell his lusus about his latest care project whether it be a new plant he got or an animal he rescued. He also talks to Skoli at great length about any jade-centric knowledge he may have picked up.

Skoli often feels bad that he isn't 100% the lusus Floren would like, but he never voices it. He cares about Floren immensely and is happy to indulge him in whatever he can.

Heya Nep! Just a couple of crits from the Ol' Mean Green Machine here.

“even going so far as to tell people how to handle their own interpersonal issues that don’t get violent.”

I’m a little confused on the wording here, especially considering how he is not above violence (maybe I’m misunderstanding)

The paragraph about Floren’s lusus should go in the lusus part of the profile! (Although if you wanted to keep some information on how Floren wishes he had a mother grub in the profile location of his application, I think that is a fabulous piece of character.) ouob

I’m not actually sure if canonically jadebloods are any rarer than other trolls. This one will require feedback from the higher ups. Otherwise I love his patronising attitude towards lowbloods!

The only thing I feel is missing is Floren’s feelings on his jadeblood powers. How does he regard his daylight experiences?

And that's it! You can go ahead and strike out your post in the review thread (I don't have my crit badge on me atm)!

thank you green !!

i have edited in some minor clarification on that problem sentence-- basically Floren meddles even in verbal spats and tries to control how people respond to their own arguments. >__>;;a hopefully my edit there will make that more clear!

i moved around the lusus bit- hopefully i cut out enough?

added in info about his feelings on being out in the sun-- i had taken the rarity thing from the "wonder how you can get a troll" thread but i may have misinterpreted it ! also added in tidbits on rainbowdrinker legends.

Floren looks good! There's just some fuzziness I'd like to clear up with the strengths and flaws. Namely there's a lot of overlap between Controlling and Stubborn. Both cover how Floren has very particular ideas of How Things Should Be Done, and that he won't cooperate easily when those ideas are challenged. That said, I really like the idea of this trait/these traits in conjunction with Floren's general pacifism. How does Floren typically react to opposition in matters where he believes he knows best?

The wording of Floren's Accepting strength seems contradictory with the rest of his profile right now--particularly his controlling nature and stubbornness. Based on this line, "He’ll console even the most violent of trolls, if they’ll let him, and will save any lectures for later if he even has one." It sounds like Floren isn't "accepting" of the other troll's lifestyle so much as he knows how to read the room and knows when his opinions won't be appreciated. Personally I'd suggest changing the bullet point title to something like "Diplomatic," since that highlights Floren's ability to care for and be kind to people regardless of whether or not he believes they're doing the right thing.

As for Skoli, he'll need to be able to accompany Floren throughout his childhood roleplays, so you may want to specify exactly how big constitutes "massive." If he's always underground, that might also prove difficult when RPing Floren in more urban environments.

On a similar note, what's Skoli like as a parent? What's his relationship with Floren like?

Thank you for the crit, Cy!

I changed up Controlling/Stubborn- basically put some of the blurb that was in controlling into Stubborn and replaced Controlling with Arrogant. It seems to fit him a little better- those to traits definitely overlapped too much.@ u @;; I also added in some detail on how he handles push back on how he wants to do things.

I alsoooo changed Accepting to Diplomatic! That's a much better word for what I was trying to go for there- thank you !

Also added in more specifics on Skoli- size and more detail on their relationship.

All edits in response to your crit are in Blue!
