Profile:

Phobos is always seeking entertainment, the trouble is defining what entertainment is. For Phobos, this varies from average entertainment sources like video games or watching movies to… well… Antagonizing his latest victim. Phobos is a tinkerer, he has a fascination with the way things work and loves to pull things apart. Whether or not they end up back together the way they were before is an entirely different story. His fascination for finding out what makes things tick extends outside of inanimate objects- the way animals and trolls also work is just as interesting to Phobos, and he would positively die just to get his hands on a living specimen to pull apart… and later rebuild to be something even more interesting.

He has a hobby of collecting bits of bone or even whole skeletons that he finds in the forest around his hive, and knits them together to create unique creatures. His lawnring is littered with the sculptures, and they aren’t the only things out there. As a blueblood, he has a rather large plot of land to work with and most of it is littered with boobytraps. Mimicking his trapdoor spider lusus, Phobos has taken up a great affection for building traps and tries his darndest to set them up in as lethal a way as possible. Since he’s still young, he hasn’t had much success outside of a few small animals.

His high position on the hemospectrum had definitely influenced his view on life. Anyone lower than green is totally expendable, there are tons of them. Like worker ants, they exist to fuel the troll race as a whole but ultimately don’t matter on an individual level. Green to teal are slightly more important, that’s where most of the valuable s**t happens (what that s**t is, he couldn’t tell you). Bluebloods are obviously the under-appreciated specialists- meant to command but always undermined by the purplebloods - both land and sea dwelling - above them. He’s not exactly quiet about it either.

That being said, he’s not reckless about it. Phobos thinks himself to be highly intelligent (as all highbloods are - even the purplebloods that take all the credit, how else would they get away with it?) and keeps his opinions about castes higher than his to himself unless he’s gauged that the troll in question won’t get violent over it. Even if they were to get offended, he usually plays it off as ‘just a joke’. Most of the time Phobos presents himself as a charming young lad, eager to fulfill his role in society. It’s only when he’s in a 1-on-1 situation that he tends to get nasty. Or if he’s on his own property. He plays his part fairly well- aside from the underlying feeling of something about him being off, he seems to blend in with society perfectly fine. After all, he knows that if he were to truly be himself around other people then he'd have less of a chance of getting any of them to get close enough to his hive to test out his traps. Most of the time, other trolls are just prey for him to eventually have fun with.

His lusus, Kumoma, is only really around when he wants to leave his property or if he's managed to bring her out to work on traps with him. She's a shy spider, preferring to stay in her hidden burrow until its time to feed. Phobos has little in the way of love or hate for his lusus- how can you feel much for a creature that just isn't around very much? At least, that is what he would say if asked. He respects Kumoma for what she is, but is frustrated that she isn't around more often like other lusii. Still, if he were given the opportunity to get a new lusus he'd stick with Kumoma.

Strengths:

Engaging: {Changed from "Tinkerer" to "Engaging"}
Phobos is very hands on with the world around him. He takes things apart, puts them together, and finds ways to improve his environment through new means. This also includes other trolls- if he witnesses someone running into the same road block over and over, he’s the type to steer them in a better direction. (Read: better in his mind…) Phobos is not the sort of troll to stand back and watch others at work (at least not for very long), as he hates to be idle for too long. If he's not physically involved with something, then he's definitely pulling the strings somewhere.

[Removing!]Assertive:
As is appropriate for his blood status, Phobos is a take charge sort of person. Rather than let people dilly-dally about who will make the decisions, he tends to usurp group environments from the get-go. If challenged, he usually plays the reasonable leader and offers up a game to see who should be the true leader.

Meticulous (Forward Thinker??): [New!]
It takes a good eye for detail to set up traps, and Phobos prides himself on having a particularly good eye for organization and careful planning. His knack for planning out his steps in advance is largely what keeps him from outing himself as the creep that he is, and is what fuels his outward presentation of being just a normal, well-behaved troll.

Flaws:

Vindictive: {Changed from "Egotistical" to "Vindictive"}
Phobos honestly believes he’s the best thing since sliced bread. His intelligence goes to his head and he tends to talk down to everyone. (If he's not watching himself, anyway.) An insult to his ego is a serious offense, one that he will most certainly try to get revenge for. He hates to lose, especially to someone of a lower caste. Should such an occasion occur, he puts on a gracious face and goes with the flow until heads are turned… Whomever gets the better on him had best watch their back. In the case of someone higher than him getting the best of him, he's just as likely to find a way to get back at them for the perceived slight against his person. He's just a lot more keen on subtlety with higher castes.

Obsessive: [Replacing "Underhanded"]
Once he's gotten his mind settled on something, Phobos does not let go. He has a sort of mental lockjaw on the things he dedicates himself to, whether it be an interest he's pursuing or revenge on someone else he deems to have done him wrong. Getting so wrapped up in his focuses sometimes causes him to slip up in his charming act, exposing his negative traits to whoever happens to bear witness to his mess ups. This is different from tenacity or dedication because this tendency to obsess can and usually does interfere with his life.

Weapon: Sickle

Appearance:
Creepy. Honestly, he’s just… creepy. Phobos has a perpetual smile, but it’s… off. The kid tends to give off serial killer vibes even when he’s putting on the charming act. He wears fingerless gloves, but the rest of his wardrobe is pretty varied depending on how he's trying to present himself. He favors boots meant for rough terrain despite how the rest of him looks- it's the one thing that always seems to be consistent throughout all of his ensembles.

Some inspo images

Home:
Phobos lives in the forest outside of four fronds. His lawnring is frequently invaded by trolls trying to escape from the hunts, which is… not an unwelcome thing for Phobos. He stays indoors while the hunts are happening, but definitely watches to see if he can catch any culling action. The hive itself seems relatively unassuming from the outside- big, mostly black with spatterings of blue decor. Inside is also fairly tame on the main floor. Due to the location of his hive it is reinforced to prevent intruders, if they can even make it up to the hive itself anyway. Things seem organized as much as a child can organize them. In fact things seem a little too perfect…

The basement is where the real weirdness happens. Like a horror movie come real, Phobos’ basement is sparse and he has several rooms dedicated to different aspects of his taxidermy hobby. A room where carcasses are cleaned by insects, one for preserving carcasses he doesn’t want stripped yet… the sculpting room… and one empty room that he’s itching to fill, but isn’t allowed access to the necessarily tools to do it yet.

Lusus:
Phobos’s lusus is a massive trapdoor spider. The two of them are not particularly close, as the giant spider spends most of her time hidden underground. Phobos both wants to earn her approval, and resents her for her distance. Kumoma knows very little about what her strange troll child does. She is very new to being a caregiver for troll children, Phobos is only her second charge. The last one did not last very long - Phobos is unaware of this. The two will occasionally bond over setting traps, and Kumoma often provides silk for Phobos to use how ever he pleases.

Phobos is a delightfully creepy troll! You've done a good job giving him an interesting take on the hemospectrum and giving him a variety of hobbies. I like what you have going on with him a lot so far.

The only thing that stands out to me as needing work is his "underhanded" flaw. It doesn't have many negative drawbacks since he doesn't appear to cheat in a blatant way that would get him ostracized. His hatred of losing also feels similar to or caused by his egotistical flaw (which is an excellent flaw I think). If you wanted, perhaps you could push it further or I could see you reworking the flaw to be "obsessive" if you wanted to go with his need to succeed and his need for revenge? Just an idea!

I don't think anything else needs much changing. I like his relationship (or lack of one) with Kumoma!

I only have two notes about Phobos, and they aren't glaring issues!

First: Tinkerer is currently reading like a skill-based trait. I think you're headed in the right direction with it, but as it is, it needs to read more like a personality strength and less like a learned skill.

Second: I'm uncertain about Phobos' egotistical flaw. Being egotistical is only a problem for highbloods, when they apply that same attitude towards those higher than them. Otherwise it's fine if they consider themselves superior to lowbloods, because in a way they are. However earlier in his profile however you mentioned that he "keeps his opinions about castes higher than his to himself," and generally "presents himself as a charming young lad". So either his ego is a non-issue, or he is not as self-controlled as he thinks he is.

As an alternative (I don't want to put words in your mouth here) you could consider a trait like "vindictive", since you mentioned that he holds a grudge for a long time!

thanks green!!

i fixed some stuff up in blue in accordance w/your input.

vindictive def sounded more accurate for what i was going for there so i went ahead and changed the 'title' for that flaw 'n fixed it up a bit more. also fixed up "tinkerer" into a slightly diff trait- hopefully that clears up the problem there !

also added proper color references @ u @

Lordy, Phobos is like the troll equivalent of Sid from Toy Story. I almost want to suggest giving Kumoma a baby doll head. Almost.

Right now Phobos's strengths are reading pretty similarly. Both are about how he's a go-getter, type-A personality. If you wanted to separate them more rather than pick something entirely different, I'd suggest emphasizing how exactly he excels at getting involved. He seems pretty sociable and well-organized.

That's all I've got! Kudos on Phobos's profile. This archetype is really hard to write without coming on too campy.

thank you cylem !! that comparison to sidd is probably my favorite reaction i've had to phobos so far, omg....

i've striked out the "Assertive" trait and added meticulous instead. not sure if forward thinker is a better name for it tho.....

Looking good! And by good I mean unnerving. Just like a proper highblood.
