Somebody mixed my medicine...

Name: Chrysicai (Cai)
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Rank: Journeyman Healer
Origin: Fort

Appearance: Cai stands at a modest but acceptable 5'9" with a generally narrow frame from top to bottom. Determined effort has broadened and defined the muscles of his upper torso and arms, making him look slightly less like a beanpole while also ensuring his ability to keep up with the sometimes grueling demands of being a healer.

His skin is fair and bears the dragons share of perns freckle allotment it seems, covering almost every inch of exposed flesh. More often than not it appears flushed either with sun, or high emotion as Cai's natural reaction to anything is to turn bright red. The closely shorn hair atop Cai's head is a vibrant orange color in no way resembling a pretty sunkissed blond, nor warm russet. It is just orange. Given time to grow, it may take on a more yellowish tint, but there will be no escaping that eye catching shade until it is taken over by age.

Cai's grey eyes are set beneath thick straight brows and are only a shade or two lighter than the stony cliffs of his home. His pointed chin and jawline could be potentially described as strong, or stubborn depending upon your tastes and his nose is neither particularly long nor short, though the tip does turn up just a bit.

Personality:
Sit Down. Shut Up. Do as I say or get out of my way. Cai is In Charge and you'll just have to deal with it. He needs to have his fingers in every little pie and everything needs to go as he expects it to. Cai is very much the micromanager. He'll constantly be on others backs, making sure they're doing their work properly. Cai doesn't so much agree with lazing about. There are things to be done and people need to do them NOW not later or when they feel like it.

Someone OBVIOUSLY needs to take control of these unruly kids and get them into shape! Cai believes he's doing what's best for the Weyr and it's inhabitants though many will just find him bossy. Cai will question anyone and everyone's methods if he doesn't think they're the best. "Why not do it this way? It would go a lot faster if you did this..." ect. Cai hates to argue about it and if possible he'd prefer to do a job personally rather than trust to someone else's shoddy methods.

Cai internalizes a lot of emotion and stress. His need for control of his external situation often comes from a pessimistic and anxious mind automatically jumping to the worst possible scenarios at any given moment. Cai's highly defensive and protective of his own privacy and an insistence that yes, everything is ok and no one should worry about him at all because he has things under control if people would just leave him alone and let him work! Cai's driven to keep his mind busy so as not to dwell on things and any idle time must be filled with productive tasks to stave off anxiety.

Casual, reserved friendships are safe enough and fairly easy to maintain as long as it's a person who doesn't fret over being snapped at on occasion. Anything deeper is difficult for Cai and requires a lot of effort on both parts to preserve the type of wary trust they must give in order to have that connection.

Let me go boys, let me go boys...

Chrysicai was born and spent his early life at Fort Weyr. His mother was a weaver and his father a blue rider with whom she'd had a brief romance. It was over fairly quickly when, upon her excited announcement that she was with child, he immediately offered to take her between to rid herself of it. Offended at his quick dismissal she declined and broke it off with him choosing to raise the child herself within the weyr. As a small act of spite though, Cai's mother did name him very clearly after his absent father who he looked so much like.

From the get-go Cai was very independent. Stubborn and sure of himself he fought his way to the top of the pecking order among the weyr children and later, healer apprentices. He'd develop a circle of others who were kept more acquaintances than actual friends. When he came of age he chose an apprenticeship among the healers over candidacy. At 12 he left the weyr to pursue his craft.

Healing suited him. While his bedside and personal manners left something to be desired, his skill within the craft itself developed quickly. In particular when it came to emergency medicine and triage his quick mind and knack for diagnosis helped him excel.

Just as he was entering his Sr. Apprenticeship rumors of sickness began to reach the Hall. Within a turn of his 16th nameday the northern continent was in a state of panic as dragons began dying off in unprecedented numbers. The Healers Hall and Beastcraft halls began working together, cross training Journeymen and Apprentices in an attempt to figure out a cause and subsequently a cure for the mysterious plague that seemed unstoppable.

Given the sudden urgency for their craft, Cai buckled down and two turns later had completed the requirements for his Journeyman's knots. Six months of specialized training in treating the symptoms of this new disease and he was allowed to transfer back home to Fort Weyr. Even if it was too late to save the last few northern dragons, he at least could make their final days more comfortable while he continued to document and report everything he could for the Hall.

While has a weyrborn he might have stood in the past without being searched, it came as a bit of a surprise that while he was working with a former search rider who's dragon was ill the rider commented that his dragon thought Cai would be good for their kind. Cai considered their offer. His skills were useful as he was, but he was making little progress in discovering a means to cure the disease. He didn't have much hope for the future of dragonkind. Yes, this clutch may hatch but if there was no queen there would be no more following it. Then too, even if there was, would she live to see her maiden flight? Would any of this last clutch reach adulthood at all?

If he did stand and Impress though... he could use what time he might have with his dragon to better understand the nature and progression of the disease. Even though it would undoubtedly end in tragedy... it might be his only shot at figuring this thing out.

Poison burning in my veins...

Name: NacreothUser Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Colour: Blue
Current Size: 10'
Current Height: 2’11" at the shoulder
Current Appearance: Nacreoth is already clearly going to be a handsome blue. He has the classic baby features. Such as overly large eyes and headknobs, but the straight lines of his face are already clearly noticeable and make his large features seem endearing. His wings are neither broad, nor pointed, suggesting a comfortable medium between strong and fast when he takes to the air. The muscle present on his newly hatched frame prevents any harsh edges or protruding bones, but is sparse enough that the hatchling has an athletic build even at a young age.

Personality: There is no denying that Nacreoth is intelligent, although perhaps a better word would be cunning. Here is a dragon who observes and notes every opportunity and advantage. There’s little interest in pondering “the deeper questions”, will it help Nacreoth and Chrysicai get where they’re going? If the answer is no, then he has little interest in the topic. Nacreoth is aggressively ambitious, he wants to be on the top of the heap. That is where he belongs. It is where he deserves to be. The blue is willing to do whatever it takes to get there, whether that is hard work or ruthlessly tearing down a competitor. If someone else needs to be crushed in order for he and Chrysicai to rise to their rightful place at the top, then that is what has to be done. Sometimes people get hurt, sometimes bad things happened, that is just the way of the world. Nacreoth is not going to let them be held back by being preoccupied with the wellbeing of fools who get in their way.

Nacreoth is likely to be a popular dragon throughout his life. Despite his disregard for others he is inarguably charming. The dragon just has a way with words that allow him to slink into people’s good books. He is especially prone to flattery, though Chrysicai will know just how rarely he means it. Another reason for his popularity is Nacreoth’s natural skill at, well, seemingly everything. Nacreoth will excel in lessons and drills throughout his life. There will be dragons who best him, due to his athletic build and slightly larger than average size, there will be blues both stronger and faster than him, and yet Nacreoth will always shine. His flair making up for any shortcomings he has in performance. His popularity will be something that Nacreoth will greatly enjoy. He feeds off the adoration of his peers and readily makes use of the position that it puts him in. Using it to get close to the individuals he needs and to gain choice bits of information that he needs to succeed. Chrysicai will be Nacreoth’s store of information and he will frequently dip into his mind to retrieve choice facts.

There is however a c***k in Nacreoth’s charm. The dragon, when posed with someone who he cannot use or who has given him a close personal weapon, will often choose to pull the other down. Often he will phrase these things as though he is helping, carefully choosing his words to inspire self-doubt and feelings of discomfort without directly incriminating himself. Nacreoth seems to gain enjoyment out of tearing people down this way and the only person who does not receive this treatment is Chrysicai. They are as perfect as Nacreoth and he could never do something that would harm them. Not intentionally of course, but words spoken in anger may find their mark a little too easily.

Mind Voice: (#518bdb) Nacreoth’s voice is gentle and drifts into the mind like a lullaby. It can make the listener feel fuzzy and lightheaded, holding and almost hypnotising them, flooding the senses like a sweet and smoky incense. In times of anger though the voice can positively burn, feeling like an acid in the listener’s mind.

Why me? Nacreoth desires to be known and regarded. He is not especially concerned with how so long as it is good. Becoming Weyrleader, being the hero in some dramatic tale, curing a disease set to wipe out his kind. In Chrysicai this blue saw a similar desire. To be seen, respected, admired. To get the things that they deserve. Now plenty of people desire recognition, but Chrysicai is willing to work for it. To go that extra mile. To put in those extra hours. Nacreoth will not have to bullying Chrysicai into working on their shared goal. Together they will define where they want to be and together there is nothing that will stop them from attaining it. Nacreoth also respects the lengths Chrysicai is willing to go to achieve. Who else would seek to impress a dragon they expect to die, just to gain information?
