If you have a character at this point, you must opt into these updates. Without your verbal consent, you will be assumed to have opted out, and will remain on the old event count method. We recommend you don't, as it will be substantially harder for you to grow your character this way! But it's your call.
path one: write your own event
- The first new option is to write your own event or plot arc. This could be something similar to Moonstone Dazzle's fae house event from June 2016 or something closer to chiickadee's All-Seeing event or something as simple as a quest you've written for your own character. The requirements for an event or plot arc to be approved as a requirement for growth are as follows:The event or plot arc must go through the mule and receive approval from shibrogane and Silv.
The event or plot arc must produce notable character development in your character. This doesn't mean "Bob gets new powers". This means "Bob has learned something about himself" or "Bob has become a huge jerk because of the things he experienced". Please note that while your character must grow, you absolutely don't have to have that growth be positive!
The event or plot arc can include a class change for your character but a class change for your character is not a plot arc or event. So that can't be the focal point.
The event or plot arc must add something to the overall world. Examples would be a new NPC or a change to an existing faction. Something like Aleksy's vampirism would also qualify as an addition to the overall world, even though it couldn't be duplicated in that exact form.
- When you go to the mule with your plot idea, please include all of your writeups in the PM. We will not accept submissions by google docs as these are too easily edited without notice to all parties. External links to examples or references or RPs are allowed, but all plot details must be in the body of the PM itself.
As with regular events, you cannot double-count event RPs. So you can't submit an event for your growth requirement and then count the event RPs towards your RP requirement for growth; that would be cheating. However, RPs done during your arc but not directly relevant may be counted: so if you have an event where you're fixing up a house in other ashdown for whatever reason, and you decide to do an RP baking cookies or attending class, that's not part of your event and may be counted.
When sending in an event proposal, please go big! Like list all your pie-in-the-sky ideas. If we can accommodate you, we will; if we can't, we'll tell you why and work with you to reach a lore-compliant result. The old "it's easy to cut back but hard to go big" adage is completely true.
Please note that you may be asked to sign over any NPCs you create to the mod team if they are integral to other ashdown. Human world NPCs are generally pretty safe, but other ashdown is a bit difficult and complicated and if you have an especially useful NPC we might need them (with your permission)!
path two: npc incentivized roleplays
- The second path available to you is to do multiple incentivized NPC rps. In order to balance this second path with the write-your-own-event path, there are stringent requirements put upon NPC incentivized RPs to get them to count for growth. These requirements are as follows:Your incentivized RPs must begin after today, February 26 2017.
You must complete seven NPC incentivized RPs. These must be with separate NPCs (no repeats). Drabble RPs do not count, even if they were begun during an incentivized period. (Mostly because they're so short!)
You must complete at least three RPs with another player discussing what you've learned or what the NPC wanted. (Drabble RPs do not count!) These do not have to be with different players but they probably should be: the goal is to disseminate as much information as possible!
This means you need ten RPs to complete this path.
Post all of your RPs in your growth power request in shibe's modbook.
- You cannot double-count the NPC incentivized RPs or their responses. If you're going to use them for your event credit, you can't count them towards your RP count. That wouldn't be fair!
The number of RPs in this path is to account for the extra effort involved in path one as well as the amount of RP most people usually do in a meta thread. Path one approvals generally take two weeks, so there's a little added on the top for that.
Now that you've seen the new options, here is the form to opt-in or out. Remember to fill it out!
