Though rubbish as far as the eye can see hardly appears to speak of life, the junkyard is not dead, not quiet. The wind kicks up and it flips the edge of a long-forgotten, faded tarp. The tarp, in turn, drops a precariously perched bottle toward the ground, clattering it against the rusted metal of an old bike wheel. A squeakbeast flees from its burrow beneath the filth. It's not the only one, there are many more and they move between piles of trash like water in a stream.

Even then, it's not just squeakbeasts. It's not just roaches or beetles or flies. An unusual detour, but you've found yourself here. From the footprints pressed into the muck, it seems you're not the only one...

It was never pleasant to tour Chittentown in Flydra's opinion. The sand and dust blew about so easily and got into everything from her hair to her clothes to her equipment. These machines were expensive and took a lot of work to take apart for a cleaning. But nonetheless, here she was in the lowblood city.

She'd been tipped off that the junkyard held an old abandoned generator. Lorata could obviously buy something newer and more powerful but in this case Flydra needed the older model because of how it was built. She could take apart pieces of it to try and use it to power a prosthetic arm she'd been working on. The goal was to create something for Austri should the greenblood take any further damage to her limbs. Flydra would never force her friend to give up her pride and use the prosthetic but it worried her that something could happen to leave any of the sirens injured as badly as Austri had been. Lorata and Scorpa needed to be measured for prosthetics as well just in case.

"This must be it." Something big and metallic glinted in the moonlight from under a pile of cardboard and wood. The tealblood used a loose pipe to knock the debris out of her way and gasped at the discovery.

This was... a door? Did someone actually live here? No, it was probably abandoned, right? Reaching forward, she tried the handle.

Tevini wasn't much of a gambler. She hated risky odds and would do anything to adjust situations to raise the probabilities of her desires before doing anything. Unfortunately, that wasn't always an option. That was how she ended up back here again. It'd been a while since she'd been here last, and after hacking into the system during the summer, she hoped she'd thrown off the drones enough to dart in and out really fast of her old hive.

'Where is it?' The redblood frowned, sneaking through her old basement. She wanted to reclaim some of her old projects and tools, needing every last piece to make new ones. Tucked in a gray hooded cape, she felt weird wearing such a bulky cover but knew it was best to disguise what she could. Byakko would be flattered.

Tucking some batteries into her apron, she was about to lift up an old tarp when something caught her attention. A sound. A sound?

'What is that?' Pumpbiscuit beating a mile a minute, the girl crouched down and looked for a hiding place. She didn't know if someone was actually intruding or not but her paranoia suggested to treat it seriously as usual. Ducking behind the large object covered by a tarp, she wondered how quietly she could unsecure it and slip under.

Creeeeaaaaaaaaak.

What a lousy old door. Flydra let out a tsk as she entered, leaving the loud squeaky thing open. She didn't care to hear it again. Inspecting the inside of the hive, she found it to be full of mechanical drawings and notes sticking out of folders that had been left here for a long time. There was a layer of dust over most of the furniture in the room. It must've been abandoned, the tealblood decided.

Until she saw the fingerprints on the cabinets. Someone had been here recently. Flydra crouched down to rifle through it to see what they'd been after. There weren't any signs of a break in and the place lacked any signs of a frantic robbery. What had caused the previous resident to jump ship from an engineer's dream location?

More importantly, why had they decided to come back?

The cabinet seemed to hold packs of batteries, nothing very interesting. The pigtailed girl straightened back up with an annoyed huff. How stupid. Why come back for a bunch of batteries you could buy from any old store? The resident must be some kind of lowblood purse pincher. How pathetic.

"It's just as much a dump on the inside, isn't it." Flydra rolled her eyes, kicking over a chair to vent a little of her irritation. It clattered to the ground nicely and she smiled. Trashing an abandoned lowblood's hive seemed like a harmless way to unload some of the tension that had been storing up inside her like a storm since the events of the Civisect failure. Grabbing a lamp from a table she smashed it into a wall as forcefully as she could.

Flydra didn't let loose very often, preferring to stay back in case a nurse was needed, but there wasn't anyone else here. She didn't need to restrain herself.

One by one, she began to kick, shove and smash the half finished masterpieces in the room.

'No!' Hiding quietly, Tevini listened to the footsteps and felt panic start creeping in. The intruder walked right in without any fear or hesitation. Whoever it was, they were bold.

'Wait, don't-' The redblood gasped as she suddenly heard the sound of something shattering. Peering around her hiding spot, she tried to spot the invading troll and was horrified at what she saw. Throwing lamps and knocking tables over, the other troll destroyed sweeps worth of work! Sure those inventions had been primitive and they weren't of much use anymore, besides as parts, but-

They were her's.

Tevini told herself to stop it, don't get sentimental. They were just machines and she'd been planning to scrap most of them down anyway. Her time with Cerpin and the others, however, had changed her. No longer was she able to live completely free of emotion and memories. Things now had meaning beyond their logical uses. Things mattered! The two metal tools on her necklace, for instance.

Another machine went flying and Tevini flinched from the close impact it had on the wall beside her. A shard of glass exploded at her and sliced her arm, evoking a hiss of pain from the redblood. Then she quickly covered her mouth and pressed herself up against her hiding spot- terrified she might have been heard.

The sounds were harsh but somehow emotionally healing to the tealblood. Metal flew around the room and fell to pieces after impact with the walls and the floor. It was dangerous but Flydra didn't need to worry too much. It wasn't like she needed to be careful not to leave a mess behind. A shatter, a crash... a crunch and a hiss?

How interesting. Somewhere hidden in this very room was a voice.

"A voyeur? Come out for a better view." Her words were soft and welcoming but there was something eerily wrong with the tone. She paused her destruction to search the room for her audience, fingers dragging across the tops of tables as she walked. There weren't many places to easily hide unless perhaps the mystery guest was a small child.

"I can do this all night. Hide and Seek is my favorite game, you know?" It was true. There were few things the doctor enjoyed more than hunting down a frightened prey. She'd been briefly annoyed at the presence of another troll but was starting to enjoy the thrill of closing in on her target. It was such a rush when you were successful at it.

It wasn't long after checking the various storage spaces and nooks and crannies before she came to the oddly shaped tarp in the corner of the room. It was a sad place to hide but she supposed she had taken her captive by surprise without much of a chance to look for something better. Kneeling down in front of the object, she peeled away the tarp slowly, her eyes glittering with dangerous curiosity as they met Tevini's own terrified and panicked ones.

"Aren't you pretty? I'm sure your blood must be too." She meant it as her blood sample but there was no way for the other girl to understand this. To a paranoid (rightfully so) and nervous troll like Tevini, it probably sounded like a declaration of war.

'Don't cry, don't cry-' Tevini tried to bite back her panicked fear but struggled to calm her pumpbiscuit. Every footstep closer sent her spiraling further. The playful whisper-like voice was incredibly unsettling, especially because it sounded so emotionless. She'd never met someone who could be amused and apathetic at the same time. This troll was disturbing.

And then a pair of eyes met hers.

"What? No!" The girl stuttered in confusion at Flydra's words. Her blood? What was this troll planning to do to her? Scared, Tevini looked for a way out but felt trapped. She'd never viewed her home as a place to escape before, even when it'd been watched by drones she hadn't recognized it as a dangerous place. But now...

"Y-you shouldn't be here. Please leave!" Afraid of her other options, Tevini opted to try pleading.

The fear in the other girl's eyes was marvelous. So many negative turbulent emotions swirled inside Tevini and the tealblood seemed to feed off of them. It was the redblood's fault, she was the one who had appeared seemingly out of nowhere in the middle of Flydra's fun. She'd brought this upon herself. The doctor would've left after destroying most of the room. Tevini had asked for her attention.

"Neither," Flydra leaned in, voice dropping to a whisper, "Should you." With a swift motion, she drew a syringe from her bag and shifted her position slightly to block Tevini from running towards the door. There were no other witnesses. The other girl was a lowblood, possibly a thief. If Tevini was stealing from the owner of this hive, that meant it was perfectly acceptable to use a little force to steal some blood from a criminal, right?

Grabbing onto Tevini's arm, her other hand brought the needle closer and swiftly jabbed it into a vein. By this point, Flydra had dealt with enough trolls struggling as she tried to draw blood before that she could pinpoint the ideal locations to draw from even in the middle of a fight. Her lips curved into a pleased smile. She'd won.

'What is that?' Tevini's eyes widened at the sight of Flydra reaching into her bag. A gun? Some sort of weapon?

Then she stabbed her.

"Noooo!" Tevini screamed at the syringe in her arm. All that work she'd done at the Chittentown Space Ladder Facility to erase herself from the grid- it would all be in vain. She didn't understand why the tealblood was doing this and there wasn't time to ask. Desperately, she grabbed at the syringe and tried to pry it out- tried to push Flydra away. Make it all go away! Her plea was answered by metal screams that filled the air as the very structure around them contorted and broken pieces flew by. Her old inventions, busted and destroyed, blasted through the air away from her in a shockwave fashion. Even the small pin on her cloak flew off. Confused and scared, Tevini retracted her hands and pulled her arms close to her body, staring at the scene in bewilderment. What just happened?

Thud.

"Ahhhh!" The hand that'd gripped her tightly fell to the ground, along with the arm. Nothing more. Teal blood leaked everywhere and in disbelief, Tevini slowly looked up towards the other troll. Oh gog. What had she done?

"I- You-" Another pair of eyes was forever seared into her soul. It was a look she could never forget. Terrified of Flydra, and now herself, Tevini scampered away. She had to leave now or else she really would be killed. Frightened, she fled out the door, leaving the grisly scene to die. It was cowardly, she knew, but just another regret to live with. There was no telling how the psychotic troll would've acted if she'd stayed to help her. She had to protect herself, and return home to continue her mission for them.

Also left behind, a small silver pin laid at Flydra's feet. A symbol of change.

White hot blinding pain. Her vision flashed and her breathing heaved painfully in her chest as blood spilled from the stump where her arm should have been. Flydra could not help but scream in pain and rage after what had happened. This pathetic lowblood had beaten her? The coward, hiding and sniveling under a cheap tarp, tearful and terrified, had overpowered Flydra, the medical genius and courageous tealblood who had fought in the Civisect Towers.

The shame fell heavily across her body, weighing her down and the shock rendering her unable to chase after the villain who had done this to her.

"NO! You won't- get away-" Her voice was shaky and wavering. Clutching at her arm, the doctor tried to calm her racing pump biscuit. Tears streaked down her face at the horror that she had just lost her arm. If she didn't start emergency aid on her stump, she would die from blood loss. She could not die from some piece of s**t redblood b***h. She had to survive to prove the hemospectrum. To craft Scorpa into the ultimate soldier. Heal Austri's arms. Make Lorata proud.

How had she allowed herself to fall so far behind the rest of them?

Austri had taken incredible damage during the fall of the Civisect Tower and yet, she hadn't actually lost a limb. She'd healed in broken but still working pieces. And Lorata and Scorpa never got more than a scratch on them. It stung to realize she was the weakest Siren. There was so much she needed to catch up to. They would never take the world by storm and stand atop of it if she was struggling to keep herself alive. Opening her medkit, she grabbed a tourniquet from inside and wrapped it around her right arm to stop the bleeding. It was so hard to do this on her own while her head was spinning from emotions and questions.

Assessing the wound, it looked to be a straight clean cut, which was in her favor. A jagged and messy cut would be much harder to care for and the bleeding would be harder to slow. With her tourniquet in place, she moved on to the next priority. Her bag was filled with blood that she could use to battle her blood loss. Hooking up some blood into her blood stream wasn't easy with one hand but she had to press forward with it despite the frustration and paranoia setting in. She needed to get out of here to get actual treatment. If the wound got infected, she would be gone. The blood loss was less of a danger than corruption of the tissue.

Something glittered at her feet. A silver pin with wings. This symbol was unmistakable and she snatched it up with a snarl. The redblood was a disgusting rebel, was she? With telekinetic abilities. This was not a good development. Flydra had to let Lorata know so she could warn the Royalists. If Lorata passed on the information, it would make the seadweller and her crew look better. The tealblood just needed to get to her after recovering.

And after that, she would have to train. Flydra would have to train hard to strengthen her body, her mind and her emotions. No more panicking, no more crying. Those emotions would not help her catch the ******** b***h that had done this. She wasn't invincible yet but with enough work, the Sirens could be.

Next time, her arm would not be so easily detached. Her loss would become a strength if Flydra had anything to do about it. She would develop a high tech prosthetic capable of injecting poisons and tranquilizers. It would take samples with a single stab. This would not set her back. Gripping her arm tightly, she pulled herself up and stumbled to the open door. Stepping outside, she let out slow breaths and made her way out of the junkyard.

Chittentown didn't have the same kind of medical care available but it would have to do. Once she made it out to the busier streets, she leaned against a random troll, rasping at them to point her towards the hospital. If they could just outfit her stump with a cap, she could fit a prosthetic on herself. Her body burned but her mind was cool and ready to work.

She had been bested but it would not happen again.
