It didn't take long before they'd reached the Pokemon Center and he'd handed over all of the Pokemon he had to Nurse Joy, who took them after she'd greeted him; apparently remembering he'd been in a couple times already.
Hayes knew it'd take some time before all of his Pokemon would be all healed up, so he followed Freddy over to the cafe and ordered another drink while he waited, receiving an interesting anecdote relating to it and a few more of the beans he'd been given earlier as well. He tucked them away again and wondered about what the theories on Butterfree's evolution that Freddy had mentioned were while he looked out the window, waiting for the Pokemon to be brought back. It occurred to him as he sat there looking out through the window, sipping on the cold drink, that he had another Pokemon that would probably appreciate the warm weather a lot that he could bring along.

Freddy lay his head on the table waiting for Nurse Joy to declare his Pokemon ready to go. He began to wonder if his Pokemon were up to the trial yet. Once he moved onto Route 2, he would be awfully close to the Trial Grounds. Freddy trusted his Pokemon but didn't trust in himself enough to do them service. He took a straw and sipped his coffee from his space on the table. He was soon joined by Hayes who sat down beside him. They were both waiting for their Pokemon to return. The silence between them as they waited was thick. Eventually Freddy turned his head. "Did you know that some people believe Butterfree and Venomoth come from the same line? It all came from a guy who thought Venonat and Butterfree look awfully similar. A combination of that and some precise diagrams of wing shapes in other bug types seem to back up the science" Freddy told Hayes. It was a bizarre theory and Freddy could see some of it's merits.
Soon enough he heard the familiar bleeping of the Pokemon Centre confirming the healing of a Pokemon. Freddy stood up, coffee in hand and approached the counter, Nurse Joy handing back his five Pokemon.

Kent followed his friends back to the Pokemon Center, with Freddy leading the way. While his two friends dropped their quickly growing teams off with Nurse Joy to be healed, Kent went to the cafe and purchased a tapu cocoa. Again the man went on a uncomfortably long rant about the preparation of the drink before giving him a bean for his Pikachu.
After his friends dropped off their Pokemon and got their drinks, they all sat down at a table. Freddy then went on to talk about the Butterfree and Venomoth evolution lines conspiracy he mentioned earlier. Kent sipped from his cocoa while he listened, actually giving the theory some thought. The mention of bugs reminded him of an encounter he had in Unova.
"Oh, speaking of bugs! While I was in Unova I was exploring this ancient castle with this trainer I met, and we ran into a Volcarona. Legend has it that hundreds of years ago a volcano erupted and blacked out the sky with ash, and Volcarona used its flames to replace the sun." Kent explained, holding out a photo of a large red moth framed perfectly mid attack in front of a large stone mural.

"Butterfree and Venomoth...?" Hayes asked incredulously, after Freddy had broken the silence between them and snapped him out from his daze as he looked outside. He was about to argue the idea until he heard the reasoning behind it, and paused. "...I guess Venonat is a bit similar looking, but..." Hayes admitted after he'd thought about it for a moment, but he still wasn't sure if the idea was more of an accepted alternative or not; he'd never heard about it before... or about the Volcarona legend that Kent told them about. "It's interesting to hear about the legends in other regions, although I think I get the inspiration behind this one." Hayes said after Kent had shown them the picture he'd taken of the Pokemon, its bright wings standing out.
Before there was an opportunity for Freddy to go into it deeper or for Hayes to put bug wings out of mind while he attempted to enjoy the refreshing Moomoo Milk, Nurse Joy had returned with Freddy's Pokemon. In one gulp he finished off the beverage and walked over to the counter, where he was handed all of his Pokeballs after she had returned Freddy's own Pokemon. When he'd put away all of the Pokeballs, Hayes walked up to a PC and used it to retrieve an old Pokemon he'd caught before after he'd having realized it'd probably appreciate the weather around the region a lot more than the others, before regrouping with the others.

Freddy nodded over his coffee. "It's not my favourite theory either. It makes less sense when you look to the Hoenn Pokemon Wurmple and it's ability to change it's evolution depending on the structure of it's pupa." he said. Kent had sat down next to them also and told a story concerning Volcarona, complete with visual aids. Freddy examined the photo, putting on his glasses. "You always hear like a Venomoth to a flame, but this takes it to another level. Can practically feel the heat from this photo. Look at those wings. Pokemon are quite remarkable. he said.
Once he had collected his Pokemon from Nurse Joy, Hayes was soon given his back also. He watched as Hayes retrieved a Pokemon from the PC storage system and was intrigued. "You'll have to introduce me to your new Pokemon later. Very interested in the kinds you have from your own region. Freddy said, itching to retrieve his notebook. Looking over at Kent he tapped his finger to his chin. "What do you guys think? About time we headed onto the next Route? One step closer to the Melemele Trial!" Freddy said, trying to hype up the wonder of Route 2.

Kent downed the rest of his tapu cocoa when his friends got their Pokemon from Nurse Joy and the PC, only slightly burning his mouth. When Freddy mentioned Hayes needing to show them his whole team, Kent nodded his head in agreement. He then suggested they head to the next route as it was one step closer to the trial. Kent stood up and nodded.
"Sounds like a plan! Speaking of Route 2, why don't we let all our Pokemon out when we get there so we can get a look at them all?" Kent suggested, reaching up to pat the Pikachu still on his shoulder.
He was looking forward to seeing all the Pokemon his friends had. After his suggestion he quickly jogged up to the PC, and after a few moments picked up two more Pokeballs.

Hayes nodded after Freddy asked about introducing him to the new Pokemon he had, once he'd turned back toward them. "Yeah, not a problem. I was actually wondering about one of yours, so." He replied, looking forward to having the other Pokemon out too; and the whole reason he'd retrieved his Scyther was so it could be out in the warm weather. Freddy then asked about heading on to Route 2, and he nodded again while Kent agreed.
It looked like Kent also agreed with the plan of letting their Pokemon out, suggesting they all do it before he headed over and used the PC to retrieve a couple more of his own. "Off we go, then?" Hayes asked after the photographer had put away the Pokeballs, leading them outside the Pokemon Center when it looked like they were all done... but he'd let Freddy take them all the way to Route 2 once they were on their way out of Hau'oli.

While the siblings walked through the streets, Adder went about recalling his pokemon, leaving out only Litten, who seemed very unnerved by this. The fire cat stayed exceptionally close to his trainer's heels, nearly tripping and running into him on multiple occasions. He jumped and leaped away whenever another pedestrian happened to walk remotely close, and his skittish behavior was noticed by the older of the two boys. "Your litten seems pretty nervous... is he okay?" Drey asked, looking curiously at the pokemon, then back to Adder. The teen glanced down, frowning a bit as he noticed Litten's behavior as well. "He's fine," he muttered defensively, shifting a bit and raising his shoulders, "Prolly just... needs to rest up or something, and get stronger..." He didn't seem very certain of that... but, well...

After making their way to the pokecenter, Drey actually managed to convince Adder to sit down and go through the things that he'd received. He also gave him... an additional few items, and talked through what he would be doing with all of them, and what his plan was. Adder was, of course, rather begrudging over all of this, but even he could admit that talking this over would be a good idea, even if he, personally, felt he already knew what he was going to do. "One last thing," Drey added, as they both stood to go get their pokemon, "You forgot this back at home. I took the liberty of using one of the special pokeballs on her." He held up a pokeball, and Adder frowned, brow furrowing in confusion, before realization finally hit. "Lady!" He quickly reached out and grabbed the pokeball. He had forgotten her at home, but he figured he'd go get her after he beat the first gym. He was honestly relieved to have her with him, sooner. And surprisingly, he wasn't at all irritated at Drey using an item meant for him, without his permission.
He paused, then looked at Drey, before putting her pokeball away. "... Thanks," he muttered nonchalantly. He moved to go get his pokemon, putting them all away while Drey stood back a bit, smiling as he waited for his turn. "I'll see you later," the tween added, looking away, before heading for the door. That was about as much gratitude as one could get, as far as Adder went...

Adder left the pokecenter and started towards Route 2, but stopped at the corner to pull Lady's pokeball out. He couldn't really switch her with anyone just yet, and she probably wasn't strong enough to help with the first gym leader, anyway, but he at least wanted to say hi. It had been a little while since he actually saw her, after all. Releasing her, he crinkled his nose against the smell, but quickly adjusted and crouched down. Honestly, at this point, the stench was more a familiar smell than it was an awful one, though it still caught most people off guard.
"Hey Lady," he greeted, reaching a hand out as if to pet her. He kept his hand an inch or so from her body, though. It was... the closest he could get to patting her, without actually getting muck all over his hand. She grumbled, jiggling happily as she saw him, stretching her hands out in what had become routine for them-- a sort of one-sided air hug she always tried to give when they were reunited after, well... any period of time. She was surprisingly friendly, for a grimer. Perhaps too friendly... she had tried to... eat some of the other pokemon around more than once. Did that count as being friendly? She did it... in a friendly way, at any rate....
Given she and Pan didn't always get along (mostly due to the latter's attitude), he decided to let her and Litten be the ones to stay out. As he straightened up, though, it turned out... he wasn't going to be able to move on as easily as he had hoped...

Adder flinched when a loud voice called out his name right behind him, more so from the volume than anything. He would have cringed if he'd recognized it, too, but that realization didn't come until a body had flung itself onto his back. "Ack! Ugh, Kaiya, get off!" he shouted, annoyed and quickly straightening, twisting to try and throw her off. "Heee~ Hi Adder!" she chimed, dropping back to the ground, but keeping her arms wrapped around him in a very tight hug. It was honestly hard to fight her off, given she was... actually an inch taller than him. That didn't make her heavier, though! Just.... a challenge. Despite his thrashing, Adder didn't seem able to get free, not until she willingly let him go, and stepped back, avoiding his arm as he swung it around and turned to glare back at her.
"Don't do that, Kaiya!" he yelled, red faced as he balled his hands up. She didn't seem fazed. At all. In fact, she seemed rather happy, despite his obvious anger, biting her lip with her hands clasped behind her back and her shoulders raised in excitement. "Guess what!" she gushed, clearly ignoring him as he glared at her, "I'm going to get my first pokemon! Which one did you get, Adder?" Her eyes were sparkling as she looked eagerly at him, breathlessly awaiting his answer. He narrowed his eyes, and leaned away. What the...

Adder stared for a long, loooong moment, with Kaiya waiting excitedly, patient. "... Wasn't your hair brunette before..." he muttered. Kaiya blinked, a bit caught off guard at the observation, but quickly beamed as she registered it. "Yeah!" she confirmed, nodding her head excitedly, "But I died it!" She scrunched up her nose, grinning as she closed her eyes and ran her hand back through her hair, then opened them to look at him again. "Do you like it?" she asked after a brief pause. Adder stared at her... He shifted, crossing his arms over his chest and looking off to the side, clearly not impressed at the conversation. "I got Litten. And uh... well, Popplio. And I got Rowlet too," he answered flatly, trying not to squirm in embarrassment over his rather... clumsy response.
Kaiya seemed to swell up in enthusiasm. "You got all three! Ohhh that's so cool! I'm going to do the same!" she exclaimed. Adder quickly gave her a sharp look. "You can't--""Look! My parents gave me them!" she proclaimed, brandishing two candybars. Adder's eye twitched and he stared at her. Wh-what.... He grimaced, flinching back, then pouting and looking off to the side. "Good for you..." he muttered unenthusiastically. Kaiya's eyelids lowered and she giggled, looking at him from behind a hand. Her attention redirected to his litten, however, and, subsequently, the grimer next to it.
"Hi Lady! I see Drey was able to get you to Adder!" she greeted, placing her hands on her knees as she leaned over, smiling at the two pokemon. Litten had his head tucked down, desperately trying to bury his nose in his fur to avoid the... odor from his new... teammate. He looked up at her as best he could, glancing at the grimer who jiggled happily in greeting of her, too. "How do you know about that..." Adder muttered, frowning at her.

Kaiya straightened up, lifting her nearly shining gaze to Adder. Geeze that was unnerving... He gave her a dubious look in response, which, again, didn't seem to bother her as she shrugged nonchalantly. "I ran into him earlier!" she explained, then lifted a hand, extending the other to point at Litten while playfully covering her nose. "Speaking of, though, your pokemon doesn't seem to be appreciating the... smell," she observed, dropping her arms back down, "Have you thought about doing something to help cover it?" Adder blinked, then glanced down, frowning when he noticed Litten. The cat's eyes went round, and he shrank down, but... ugh. It was too strong. He couldn't stop trying to cover his nose....
Adder stubbornly looked back to Kaiya. "I already have something for that. Don't you have starters to get?" he muttered, raising his shoulders defensively. Kaiya lifted a fist to her mouth and grinned, clealry trying not to giggle, then nodded, dropping her hand. "See you later, Addie~!" she chimed, giving a wave as she turned, and headed off. "Stop calling me that!"

Seething after Kaiya's departure, Adder clenched his hands into fists, but quickly shook his head. He huffed, trying not to puff his cheeks out in annoyance-- something he'd been mocked for on more than a few occasions. He instead turned, kneeling down by Lady, and pulling his bag around to shuffle through it. He wasn't lying when he said he had something for her smell. He knew that, even if he wasn't bothered by the odor, others might be. He wasn't an idiot. It was kind of difficult to come up with something that would completely mask the smell and everything because, well... it was pretty strong, buuuut....
He pulled out a little air freshener, oen he had put on a cord, and leaned forward, placing it around Lady's neck. There. That ought to... help, a bit.
And with that completed, they could finally be on their way.

Adder wasn't really in the best mood-- but when was he ever? More specifically, he was... on edge. Glancing around, trying to make sure he didn't see anyone he didn't want to run into-- or if he did, he saw them first. Unlike before. "C'mon," he muttered, urging Litten and Lady as he looked around, "We still need to get to route 1..." He eyed the boats as they passed by, narrowing his eyes some. They probably got to other regions, too -- maybe even faster -- but they didn't go to the right area. All the labs were pretty easily connected by trains.... and that was where you would go to get the starters...
