Start: September 12 NOW | End: September 25 11:59PM EST

Every party needs a location, am I right? Well, this time around YOU get to determine the location and exactly what sorta party spot this event is hosted at! The winner of this contest will have their location made into a Village on the isle! You're welcome to go at this application solo or have a max group of three working together. The winner/s wont only get our next Village spot, but also have their leaders created into actual Pae to run the Village!

There are a few things to note when filling out the application that we have preset for you:

  • This is the setting for the current event so it will be a part of the Village's history now.
  • This is a hybrid Village with a portion in the lake and a portion on land.
  • This means there are two founders/leaders, one to run the water portion and the other the land. We have already chosen a Fauny and Seafauny for this. Gender and other aspects we will leave up to you.

---

RULES
Breaking any of these rules could be seen as 'cheating' and could have you disqualified from this contest or completely removed from the summer event! Be sure to read them.

  • PM the application to Guardian_Iris. DO NOT post it in here!
  • Please stick to the application's format.
  • Please only groups of 1 - 3 players working on an application together.
  • Only one application per player/group.
  • Anyone not using our preset information will be disqualified no matter how great their 'changes' are.
  • If you need examples or more information on how to fill out the Village application please check out this thread

CONTEST RESULTS

Strawberri Stardust & Fea Line

Village Name: Partayzia
Founding Members: Coral Flash (Seafauny, male, Berri) & Fairy Lights (Fauny, female, Fea)

What kind of Village is it?
  • Vacation Spot/Attraction

    Location description
  • In the central hub is the entertainment portion of the village (the hotel, the bars, the gaming halls, etc.) and surrounding that is the residential area. Beyond the residentials are the farms, distilleries, vineyards, etc. Most residences are duplex/quadplex/etc. It's mostly a place to come, relax, have fun, where no one is going to judge.
  • Centered around 5.25W by 21.25N, the village spreads out in either direction.
  • LARGE. It spreads across a good chunk of the western beach and the surrounding shore/waters. Village is the size of a medium to large town. It employs approximately 50-100 Pae'il, excluding traveling merchants and performers. Not all of the businesses/residences are visible as some are built underwater to accomodate naiad, sprites, seafaunies, etc.

    Village Details
  • Monetary unit
The locals use a bartering system, but they will accept currency from visitors/guests in order to buy things from other villages that they may need.
  • Religion
Whatever floats your boat! While many of the inhabitants believe in the Guardians, there is no one religion in the village and everyone is free to believe of their own choice.
  • Agriculture
Lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, celery, potatoes, cranberries, pomegranates, lemon, lime, apple, orange, grapes, cherries, melons, peaches, strawberries
  • Labor Force
Villagers must maintain a steady job to help the entire village run smoothly. There are consequences for those who do not.
Jobs include distillers, farmers, fishers, bartenders, hosts, organizers, guards, decorators, doctors, etc
  • Industry
    Vacation/Attraction, Liquor
  • Natural Resources
Coconut trees, banana trees, palm trees, fish
  • Exports
    Fruits, veggies, liquor
  • Imports
Fabric, glass/pottery dishes etc, baskets, meat other than fish, decorations they can't make themselves, spices, baked goods
  • Major Trading Partners
    Tree, City, Water Palace

  • Communication
Most of the villagers know both earth runes and water glyphs and use those to communicate. The higher ups and the pae who deal with trading with other villages know at least enough to get by in the languages they deal with most, and everyone is fluent in the most common language.
  • Broadcast
There is a PA system for more immediate news, but generally they get news spread by word of mouth, flyers, banners.
  • Transportation
They walk! Or swim, depending. Carts are used to carry trade in the village as well as to nearby trading posts. Small boats/floating carts are used in the water. For longer trips, say to the other side of Telrunya, they use boats and carriage carts.

  • History
The founding Pae were originally managing their own neighboring villages who were trying to do similar vacation/resort villages. Eventually it became too much for them to keep their borders separate so they united to make one big hybrid resort village.

  • Influence
Las Vegas, Nevada. Venus' parties were also used as inspiration but the parties and the atmosphere in Partayzia have a more general feel to them and are not used to worship deities.

  • Architecture
Typical beach style. There's huts and bungalows on land and underwater houses. There are also a couple taller hotels but most buildings meant for vacationers are no more than two stories. There are a few 'shacks' and beach cabins floating in the water as well.

  • Government
Fairy Lights and Coral Flash. They each manage their own side of the village with at least two other assistants. They meet at least once a week to discuss what's going on or what problems they've been having, etc.
    • Detainment
There are holding cells and drunk tanks. Most of the crime is petty theft, public drunkenness, disrespectfulness to staff/owners/etc. Outward displays of violence/racism are not tolerated and can get Pae banned from the village.
    • Law Enforcement
There are guards and sentries posted all over the village. They prefer to keep the peace but are trained in theory on what to do in extreme situations.

  • Entertainment
The whole village is entertainment. There are bars and game halls, a small marketplace for shopping. There's a community theatre for those who enjoy putting on shows for others.
  • Education
Kids get the same basics that most kids all over Telrunya get but as they get older and start to lean toward certain aspects of village life they get a more specific education. Teens are able to "intern" in the kinds of businesses they're interested in most to see which ones are more to their liking.
  • Health Care
They have a small group of Avalon healing fairies as well as a few resident healers who can specialize. There's a small clinic/sick bay.

  • Finances
There isn't really a bank system as the locals work in barter. Pae are welcome to offer what they have and as long as it's deemed a fair trade by both parties then anything goes.

  • Archival System
They have a central hub where villagers can come and have their earnings/harvests/etc recorded. There's also a big news bulletin board type thing inside the building and there's 3 or 4 Pae that work behind the desk to take care of and keep track of things.

  • Housing
As this place is meant more as a resort, Pae don't usually come to move in. However, those who decide they'd like to stay are asked to choose a business to help out in and they stay with a local family until they've mastered the job they chose. They are then given a basic house that they can then expand upon if they wish.

  • Commonality
Their common goal is to create a safe and harmonious place full of fun and laughter that anyone can enjoy, be they resident or visitor.

Current Residents: Coral Flash, Fairy Lights, Grape Escape, Deepsea Safeguard, Undersea Rose, Ezsra & Harlow Samhain

Pros
  • We liked that the general feel we got from this village was "We're in the business of pleasure! But it's still a business, so do your darned job!" In other terms, It's a Village in the business of pleasure, but it knows how to conduct itself in a manner that'll help it continue to run.
  • Cute, society-fitting character names.
  • Love how down and dirty you all get with the details, from numbering the town and talking about the building types (not just decorative) to a ton of Agricultural items. You can tell that this Village had a lot of time and care put into it. This is something that gives us a lot of pleasure to see because it is a reflection of how much you care about it, and we want you to care, right?

Cons
  • Not much info yet on the founders, but this contest was centered more around the village dynamic. So this is a 'gentle' con. Think we are just interested to know more about the pair!
  • There are some items that were vague that we'd like more information on, such as the PA system. how things are getting power, etc.
  • Your location information lays it out that this app is for an inner party city and a more rural outer village. There are just some sections to the app that seems to forget to mention the village on the outskirts and we'd just love to know more!

Tartara Seabreeze & Dementia Requiem Asumi
This was a group effort by me (Tartara) and Umi (Dementia Requim Asumi) with one tidbit by Clintomus.

---

Village Name: Iiawah
Founding Members: Kaipo and Andrina

What kind of Village is it? Fishing!
  • Fishing, farming, merchant, thieves guild, cliff dwellings, nomadic, underground, etc.

Fishing and Resort

    Location description
  • Describe what the village may look like Half land, half water. Directly under the beach ‘shelf’ is a small cave under the surface where one can swim under and up to keep cool in the summer. Being close to the surface, there are little pockets in the walls to allow light. Construction of the buildings are hawaiian-esc on the beach made of leaves and wood. In the water along the wall are small cut out pockets for the seafauny. Homes for the faun are pushed to the east side towards Laisidhiel with merchant shops a strip in between to separate the residents from the vacationers.
  • Geography Located 21N x 11W ; Half on Pae’kippu Beach, half in Tuatha Lake.
  • Approximate size
Small to medium, with an excess bordering on insanely huge in the summers

    Village Details
  • Monetary unit: Certain shells, a rare fish, and pearls.
  • Religion: As primarily Fauny and Sea Fauny, they believe in the Spirits, yet hold an equal respect for other beliefs. EXCEPT THE GUARDIANS BECAUSE THEY BLEW UP THE TREE
  • Agriculture: Fish are raised in a hatchery for the purpose of their own meals. Only the best for the residents. Near the base of the entrance is a fairly large kelp farm that keeps them in ample amounts of seaweed. All the seaweed and fish for all the meals!
  • Labor Force: There’s always a need for fisherpae, but there is also the oyster shucker, the entertainers that are so desperately needed during the summer. Cleaning, and tons of Merchants. Anyone would sell anything during the tourist season. A lot of the summer is spent making as much money as possible, while the cold months are spent relaxing while there are little to no tourists around to bother the laid back lifestyle.
  • Industry: A good time full of sun, beach and waves. Merchants bring in themselves what they want to sell during tourist season. Small things like kelp baskets, furniture from the wood, ect are done on a personal basis by the residents for their own dwelling.
  • Natural Resources: Fish and kelp from Tuatha lake, and a small bit of wood from the woods to the south.
  • Exports: Primarily fish and kelp but they thrive on the economy brought in by vacationers. Pearls are used for more expensive transactions.
  • Imports: The village needs to bring in virtually anything other than fish. They have their fair share of hunters that keep red meats and furs in stock, yet they don’t really grow much. Generally they’ll have to import anything not fishy or kelpy if they want to survive. But this also means inflated prices for pae during the summer months when demand is even greater
  • Major Trading Partners: Water Palace, Laisidhiel, Star Grove and anyone who believes in peace, harmony and money is welcome!

  • Communication: There is a messenger that is sent between this village and other villages/homes. They use Earth and Water runes, having both land and water citizens.
  • Broadcast: They use a bulletin board to announce meetings. For more direct communication, you can file a request form at the local post office and hope it makes it to their desks by the end of the year. Or just ask either of the founders at the party that night. Your choice.
  • Transportation: Swimming for the most of travel. As for transport from one village to the next, they often times walk, bringing along carts with them. Or they’ll ask the other villages to come get their product. Depends on how laid back, or lazy, the worker is.

  • History: Kaipo and Andrina met and fell in love. Both being having a profound love for the water, and Andrina being a sea fauny the proceeded to find a place to live. Andrina gets the credit for finding the hidden gem that would later become Iiawah. Of course, Kaipo and Phiona Asumi were wonderful friends while Fi lived on the beach, and that friendship continued after she moved into the great tree. All it took were a few words to Kaipo’s friend and all of a sudden, the small cove was booming! Andrina had the brilliant idea of selling things to these visitors, and a business was born. Eventually visitors decided they loved the place as much as Andrina and Kaipo and decided to stay. Andrina’s connections amongst various naiads of the lake had all the sea fauny and the naiads coming up for a visit, and of course they loved it too. Seriously, who wouldn’t? All the bingo, all the drinking and the nightly parties! And the killer surf lessons. Seriously. So awesome.

  • Influence: Mixture of Naiad and Faun culture. They have a respect for nature, spirits and harmony, while liking the shinies of profit from their resort.

  • Architecture: Think Hawaiian. All the tiki huts, all the tiki. ALL OF IT! You know those little umbrellas in your drinks? Those, everywhere. Not the huge ones, just the tiny ones in the sand, and your drinks. Seriously. - Credit to Clintomus

  • Government: (describe who runs the village and how)
Very small government but Andrina rules the village with an iron tail. Kaipo just says ‘cool’ and lets her do her thang. Okay, joking! They do actually talk about things. Usually when one party is full on drunk as can be. When the top two ranking citizens fail to be around, you could usually ask one of the regular village members for a hand, they know how things work around here. Kaipo is usually drinking something and getting up to something to irritate Andrina anyways.
    • Detainment: Vacationers are on a 3 strike warning depending on how serious their crimes are. A warning, followed by removal of that activity for the day, to expulsion for the season. Residents have to pay for their crimes - literally - which would go directly into the banks. The worst offenders are either put under house arrest or exiled from the town. Prisons wouldn’t be very attractive.
    • Law Enforcement: (does the village have guards? sentries? does need any at all?)
There are ‘bouncers’ so to say to address those who break the rules or laws, but no sentries or guards as it would ruin the atmosphere.
  • Entertainment: For entertainment, there’s the parties, the luaus, the barbeques, the surfing. Pineapple under the sea and all that. Nothing fishy OR kelpy!
  • Education: To teach the youngins, there are classes held in the evenings, after a good day has been had. Every child is required to go school, yet it’s never truly boring. Each class is taught around the nightly bonfire, and each student does strive to bring something to teach as well as to learn. Be it how to do a sweet flip while riding waves, or something far less complex. Learning is always aimed to be fun in this village. The class is ended by all the students and adults attending singing kumbaya or whatever it is they sing.
  • Health Care: The village does have two very hard working healers. They may not be big time in the game, but they work themselves ragged during the summer months when there are tourists galore. Everyone in the village does take a turn doing basic first aide so no wound is left untreated. For massive injuries and issues, pae are generally directed towards either Lashidiel or the Water Temple inside the lake, depending on where the injured has to live. Land or water.

  • Finances: There are two banks, one that is used on the vacationers such as parties, cleanup, making a new dwelling, ect. And one for the Residents to build up during the tourist and fishing season, then live off of that during the winter months. Divving what goes where is on a 35:65 ratio of vacationers to residents.

  • Archival System: There is a small library, but it’s mostly used to archive business statements from the bank. Most of the villagers know the history of their home and pass it on orally. Much cooler that way.

  • Housing: Houses are provided to rent for short or long term for vacationers closer to the beach front. Permanent residents can make their own home in either the strip by Laisidhiel or a cove underwater.

  • Commonality: (common myth, or common belief. The thing that makes the village a community and all the villagers share in common. Same religion? Same type? same faction? Outcasts and thieves? Academics? Believers of the giant squid that will someday eat the island whole? etc.)

Current Residents: Kaipo, the androgenous faun
Andrina, the female sea fauny
Various background pae
Krabby Patty
Any sea fauny that needs a home

Pros
  • We were glad to see how our ambiguous setting was taken with this Village. Since it was only mentioned to be a hybrid it could have been easy to settle onto 'yup the other part is in the water', but instead there is discussion about cave living and other more descriptive parts.
  • We appreciated how the characters were already being fleshed out even though this is just a Village app. One thing that stood out is the good and bad within the characters- you can tell what their fatal flaw is and that those flaws have been thought out.
  • We also liked how differently you all treated the Village Details section with adding the why to the item listed.

Cons
  • Like mentioned above, we liked seeing that even leaders aren't perfect and have their flaws. However, it is also expected that a leader and founder of a village would have had the strength and character to have attained that honor as well as having the ability to hold it. When the character's flaw seems to overshadow the redeeming traits that would have helped them reach such a position, it begins to become very difficult to accept what sort of situation would have that result. We realize that this was a village concept contest, but there was enough about these characters to cause some confusion on the matter. When they only seem to get along when one is drunk and the other barking orders at people, it's hard to imagine how they built a thriving society together. On another note, it would be hard to see how a situation like this would last. Likely the situation gets unstable, someone casts doubt on these leaders, perhaps a new potential leader begins gathering like-minded individuals and prepares to stage a coup...
Of course, if this is something you had in mind, then by all means.. XD
  • The app seemed to have a few contradictions sprinkled throughout. It was hard for staff to get a feel for what this village was trying to be. It was stated to be a fishing village, but also a resort? A fishing industry would be a lot of work to not only feed the village, but serve as an export. However, there are numerous references to the state of the day being to have fun, and lots of mentions of regular, frequent parties. There are mentions of tourists and guests, but it seems that all the best supplies are hoarded for the regular residents instead. It felt like the village was struggling to decide which it was going to be....fishing village, or resort. It was hard to get a feel for both in one. Which leads to the next point...
  • The village commonality was skipped entirely and not filled out, leaving the form incomplete. As stated before, it was hard to get a feel just from reading what common ideas drew these Pae together, and without this filled out, we weren't quite sure what you were going for with your app.

**********

And with that we want to congratulate our winners...
BERRI & FEA!
Thank you to both teams for applying! We understand that these forms are massive and intimidating, so the fact you all took the time to fill these out and come up with such fun ideas means a lot to us. Please don't hesitate to apply again to our future Village apps so we can keep building the world of Telrunya heart

For your participation, Tart & Umi, we'd like to give you 100 points each to go into your collective shop points! Congrats!
