They had made it! The sounds and smell were so vastly different and the roar of the ocean threw her senses off to the point of feeling rather dizzy. It had taken some time and they had even stopped a few time to meet and greet a few friendlies. Well at least she did anyway. She had wandered away a few times. Though meeting her daughters again was a nice change of pace. Sad that they were going in different directions but glad that at least they were making a home for themselves. It was good to have run across them.

"Smell that?" She asked as she took a big whiff of the ocean air. "I think we are in the right place." She felt sand beneath her paws too. "And sand!" She exclaimed happily. Oh boy! It was hard for her still to focus but what she could feel with her paws told her that they were at least in a location that had at least gone to a general location of ocean and sand.

Home.

This was it. They were finally here. Desher looked about him in awe and amazement. He's never seen so much water in all his life. Not even during the floods. Untold amounts of water here crashing in impressive waves against the sand. As far as the eye could see, nothing but water. Impressive. His lips quirked as Lani mentioned sand. "Aye there is that dear." He took a deep breath though the smell of salt had slowly been building as they'd gotten closer. It was strange to smell it instead of taste it. The male wondered what caused it.

"You promised sand and something else. I'd say this matches." Desher laughed softly. There had been a pride here that appealed to them so naturally they'd applied. Now they were just waiting for their guide to show them around and introduce them. The sound of the crashing waves distracted him easily. The desert was so quiet compared to this! How would he ever hear an enemy approaching? With time, he was sure he'd learn.

A young male with a shocking bright red mane rounded a sand dune and approached them. He'd been assigned escort duty for some new members. Eade didn't mind as he got to meet new lions and show them the home he loved. He found the pair staring out across the ocean. They were rather striking. The male a tan that matched the sand with a dark red mane; not as brilliant has his own. And the female. A dark stunning beauty. Eade thought regretfully, that he'd heard these came as a pair. Some day, he'd find a nice girl for himself.

"Hello! You must be the new ones. I'm Eade. Here to show you around, answer your questions. That sorta thing." He looked back and forth between them with a grin. "Got any so far?"

Sand and something else. It was the promise she had made and kept. The sounds of the crashing waves was difficult for her to concentrate but time would change that as her senses got used to it. She'd eventually be able to block it out. Gently she leaned on the other, getting into old habits of their nudges.

"I'd say I did quite well for being blind and not knowing exactly where I was going." It had everything they needed. Sanctuary. There were healers. There was the sand beneath her paws. Safe havens. "Thank you for trusting my guiding skills." She chuckled.

She barely heard the other male approach until he was there and it startled her visibly. Curse the overwhelming of her senses. This was going to take time.

"We are!" Her voice wavering a moment, "I am Hokulani. You may, with my mate's permission, call me Lani." Then the dark pelted lioness laughed "It was a joke." Looking at Desher, "You don't need his permission."

She did have a few questions but she only asked one, "When will we get used to the loud sound of the ocean?" Lani asked.

If it hadn't been for a bright red mane, Desher was positive the lion would have approached without his noticing. Who knew water could be this loud! He frowned to himself. It bothered him that this lion could have snuck up so easily on them. Pah, he was getting soft in his old age. He nodded as the other male came closer and greeted them. "Nice to meet you Eade. Thanks for showing us around. I'm Desher-bik." Surely there was a dozen questions he could ask, but they all slipped his mind at the moment! It was probably all that pounding wave action.

Desher leaned comfortably back against his mate and laughed. "That you did." Some might have called it folly, but he called it trust. "You'd been here, not me." He had traveled a bit when disease had sent him and a small group out beyond the desert. After they'd made it back though, he'd never left the desert again and had never traveled this far. He glanced at his mate and had a question come to him. "What should we be wary of? I don't have any experience with this kind of thing." He waved a paw helplessly at the water and waves.

The tan male managed to keep a straight face through Lani's joke. She'd never asked for his permission before, and he doubted she ever would. If she wanted to do something she did it, and he had to let her no matter how much it scared him. Lani wouldn't be herself if he didn't.

Eade hadn't meant to startle the couple, but it looked like he did. For a moment he saw a frown on the male's face and hoped he hadn't given offence. "Desher," he hesitated then relaxed as she said it was a joke," and Lani. A pleasure to meet you both, and welcome to the Bahari!" Some new comers had tons of questions and others barely none. While they didn't ask a lot of questions, they asked important ones. "The ocean for one," he said flicking his tail toward the pounding surf. "At least until you learn it, but never turn your back on it or it'll eat you." Maybe the last was a bit of an exaggeration, but he's seen new members too easily get into trouble as they challenged something they didn't fully understand. Even experienced members could be overcome by it. "There are some animals of the ocean to be wary of too, but we can show you them later."

He grinned at the female, not realizing she couldn't see. "I'm sure you will! It only takes times and you just got here. It's like a lullaby to me, but I grew up here. C'mon, let me show you around and the most important places." Since they were a couple he was surprised they hadn't asked to see the nursery straight away. Oh well, not his concern really. He could focus on other fun places!

Time. That was the story of all things was it not. It was the first time she had really made such a joke and well she hadn't exactly gotten the reaction she was hoping for she had at least gotten a reaction, from one of them. Not that she needed permission from him as she did things on her own volition most of the time. She did like to hear his approval on some things of course, that was what mates did. Such as coming here. To Bahari.

"A lullaby." She murmured the words. Eventually she'd want to have cubs and she'd sing them a lullaby. They had not spoken about that prospect yet and she wasn't sure how she wanted to breach the idea to him. Especially after seeing two of their seven cubs. "Take us away Eade. I'm happy to learn about this new place." Grinning. Although she wouldn't be able to see it the way they did, she would still see it how she did.

He gave his mate a nuzzle. She was in the same boat as he was, probably worst as hearing was one of her main senses. As long as he kept his eyes open, he could usually spot trouble. Lani used her hearing in the same way; with all this sound it was like if he'd lost his sight. Desher was sympathetic, but knew she'd over come it.

The warning about the water was a surprise to him. Usually water in almost any form was welcomed and celebrated in the desert. They knew to be careful of the washes though. The force of the waves seemed impressive sure, but one shouldn't have trouble if they were prepared right? Clearly there was more here than met the eye. Desher vowed to pay strict attention to it for he didn't wish to be eaten. The animals he understood. Even the desert had animals they had to be wary of; snakes and scorpions were the most common dangers. It was time to adapt to new dangers. The sooner they started the better. "Right on. Lead the way."

Eade looked at the pair curiously. He had never met anyone like them before. The young male noted the way they leaned comfortably against each other. His ear flicked as he thought he heard the female murmur something. A lullaby? He wasn't sure why she'd say that. Brushing the thought aside he focused on where he needed to take them to start getting them settled. "I can go over the things that periodically wash up onto the beach. Some are good omens and some are bad."

"Ok! This way you two. Step lively. First we're going to head to the Caves. It's an outcropping of rocks by the ocean that the leader and his advisers make announcements. The caves below that is where we have our pearl bed farms. Hunting grounds is behind us as you know since you came from that direction."

The dark lioness leaned into the other before following the voice before it was drowned out by the sounds of waves crashing upon the shore. She'd have to make note of the area and the paces she was taking to remember locations. As well as remembering sounds. Oh this was going to be tough until she grew used to the sounds.

"This place is lovely." At least from what she could tell with her own senses. "I wish I could see it all as you two did." Still she wondered how she could broach the subject of cubs to her mate.

Desher moved off but kept an eye on his mate. He made enough noise to hear over the waves so she could follow him even if she couldn't hear Eade. It became obvious that the other lion didn't realize his mate couldn't see him. He wondered what the lion would think when he realized it. Sometimes they were surprised and others were disbelieving. Some thought she was a weakling and shouldn't have been allowed to survive, survival of the fittest they claimed, and some admired her strength to continue on.

He was looking forward to settling in. Once they got past this, he could retired to his new den and sleep for a week. The trip had left him frazzled and a bit tired. Not unduly hard, but he wanted time off his paws. Thinking longingly of a good rest he was only half paying attention to what the other was saying. Without a doubt they'd learn about all this over time anyhow. He was slightly interested to find out what they considered good or bad omens.

Eade looked back over his shoulder. "What do you mean see it as we do Lani?" His eyes darted between the two lions as he tried to decipher the cryptic remark. It couldn't mean what he thought she meant, could it? Then his whole tour was pointless! Well not totally, just half. The male could see what he was pointing out, but he wasn't sure what the point was for the female. He stopped in the sand to face them. Eade was unsure how to continue, and just a tiny bit annoyed that they hadn't told him about this sooner!

The female turned her head in the direction of the other male lion. "Sorry. Ole Blind eyes over here." she wasn't quite sure how the other hadn't noticed her eyes at first. It seemed everyone noticed her blindness when looking at her. "I did not mean to cause you any trouble. I can't see with my eyes what you all see. I can see however. Its complicated to explain what I see to someone who does not also have my disability."

She knew having tried to explain it to Desher that he still did not understand the way she saw. Though her imagination could easily conjure up things. Desher explaining it as well didn't hurt.

"We can continue this, at least Desher will see it all." She made an almost cooing sound as she leaned into her mate.

fin!

Well that answered that question. He stood beside his mate as the lion faced them. At least the male hadn't assumed Lani was suddenly stupid. Desher could understand his confusion of showing a lioness around who couldn't see. "It's true. She just sees different than we do. Plus she'll memorize the location of everything and be able to find her own way around. Once I know where everything is I can lead her around until she has it memorized," he did his best to sooth the lion.

Eade chewed on what they told him for a moment. The way the female described it didn't make much sense to him, but the male backed her up and explained it a little bit better. Having Desher with her made him feel a bit better about it; although he doubted the wisdom of letting a blind female wander around on her own. They seemed confident anyhow. "Alright I guess. It's not really my place to argue with it." On their heads be it if anything happened to her. "Next we'll go to the coastal bay." The young male turned back around and headed out to finish their tour.
