Title:
N/A

Personality/Mannerism:
As a mage, he shows a fascination and intrigue beyond most when it comes to any form of magic he has no knowledge of. Despite usually giving off an air of seriousness, he is easily excitable, and can even be eccentric at times. While he does enjoy his along time, he more often prefers festivities, and finds himself enjoying the company of a loud and boisterous companion over a quiet broody one. Despite his age, he is always in control of himself. Even should his opponent control the battle, it isn't often Maliarc loses himself. However, he doesn't think much of killing others. While he does his best to spare innocent people, he does not lose sleep over them either. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few", after all. Sometimes hypocritical, often playful, Maliarc is a joy to be around for most people who aren't sticklers for rules.

Appearance:

Should his personal storyline be explored, and his original appearance be restored:

User Image

Physique:
As an old man, his bones have lost most of their strength, and he appears somewhat frail and weak. Gaunt though he appears, there is still somewhat of a healthy glow about him.

In his youth, he is lean and muscular, something unusual for a mage, owing to his birthplace. He retains his healthy glow and is much more hearty.

Height:
Six foot two inches. (Although, in his old appearance, he hunches at five foot eleven and a half.)

Weight:
One hundred seventy two - mostly muscle. (One hundred forty-five in old appearance - mostly flab.)

Personal Skill:
Name Calling: Maliarc has developed his own sort of teleportation magic. A magic spell nobody can imitate.

Favorite Food & Drink:
Meat
Vegetables
Juices
Fine Wines

Least Favorite Food & Drink:
Exotic Meats
Strong Ales

Dislikes:
- Rude people
- Those who make a big deal out of nothing
- Spoiled plans
- Wasted potential
- People who are content to be "background characters"

[COMBAT INFORMATION]

Special Tactic/Skills:
His stance, if you will, has him standing, usually at a distance, with his grimoire out.

Battle Strength:
His magic is incredibly powerful due to his experiments and life happenings. He has trained himself to use all kinds of magics, some requiring incantations, and others simply requiring his willpower.

Battle Weakness:
He's a mage. He's squishy. His magic has its limits, and the repercussions are numerous. Some magic requires a sacrifice, while others can cause extreme migraines. Other repercussions range from unconsciousness to death.

He does also exhibit a sadness when someones plans are ruined, so there is always a chance he would let someone finish their plot, even if it is not in his best interest.

[ABILITY INFORMATION]

(When reading this, please note that this character, along with these spells, have been used before in a roleplay to good affect, with none complaining on how I handled it. I have no intention of creating a situation where Maliarc can get out of any of the requirements to each spell, and no intention of trying to force a situation where Maliarc is overpowered. I tried to make the requirements and risks easy to understand so that if there was a situation where I was suspect of power-playing, my profile could be referenced. Please don't take this note as me attempting to circumvent ya'lls reviewing progress. I fully understand if anyone decides things need to be amended. I just dislike miscommunications, so I figured I'd put my two cents in first, and I'm aware at a glance, some of these can seen OP as fek.)

Special Abilities:
Special: Name Calling - Maliarc has developed an incredibly intricate spell wherein so long as someone says or reads his name aloud, he can teleport to their location. For this spell to work, he must have spare spellpower to use (although it takes an extremely minute amount to work) and the effect is not instantaneous. His opponent would have a three second (give or take) window to kill or wound him. While the effects of the spell cannot be interfered with, Maliarc also cannot ignore the calling lightly. Depending on the distance, immediate migraines could follow, rendering him extremely fatigued. This spell holds no combat value. It does have a delay and start-up time, so his enemies could easily take advantage of that.

All of this being said, the spell itself has some interesting qualities. Being able to read his emotions, the spell will not react if the person calling him is someone Maliarc sees as suspect. For example, if a murderer were to call his name, Maliarc wouldn't even need decline, as the spell would not even activate. Another point of interest is that Maliarc can sense who is calling him when they are calling him. This effect puts an effective barrier so that his enemies cannot use it to easily draw him out. It also ensures that if a random person says his name, he is not inconvenienced.

The only exception to this is if Maliarc writes his name down with the specific intention to have his name called. This offers an extremely risky way out of dirty situations. Due to his magic being etched in his name, he cannot ignore the call if the person reads it from paper. Although the paper is a one time use. Once his name is called, the spell on paper deactivates. It should also be noted that if he does not put his magic into his name, his written name is no different than another written name.

(Ex: Once while lying wounded on a beach, Maliarc etched his name on a worn piece of paper and attached it to a familiar. That familiar then flew to civilization and happened upon someone who called Maliarcs name, allowing him to teleport to safety.)

Tier I: (These are the spells that require no sacrifices, and carry little threat or reward.)

Fire: Low Risk - He can conjure a fire in his hand. The more magic he uses, the bigger the flame. He uses it mostly for utility.

Snap: Medium Risk - Concentrating his magic on his fingertips, he can snap his fingers loud enough to temporarily debilitate lesser foes. If he uses too much magic, his fingers can easily break, and this does not work on any foe with much combat experience, except maybe as an annoyance.

Telekinesis: Low Risk - By projecting his magic outwards, he can move objects. He cannot move large objects, and this spell is purely limited to most household objects. Migraines will appear if he tries to move anything large. (No combat use.)

Detect: Low Risk - Due to his extensive research in magic, he can detect most forms of magic easily. Advanced users could hide their magic from him, and he cannot do this all the time. In battle, he would have to stop and look more closely, easily getting him injured/killed. Migraines follow easily if he uses this extensively. (No real combat use.)

Tier II: (These spells may be used for combat, and carry decent to good threat and reward.)

Fireball: Medium Risk - Another basic spell. The more magic used, the hotter and bigger the fireball. Can be used consecutively with little actual risk, but it's easy to let get out of hand. As with most spells, can cause migraines and in terrible scenarios, can lead to death.

Familiar: Low Risk - As is normal with most magics, calling a familiar from the spiritual plane is simple. Keeping them here is just as easy, although for Maliarc, his ability is limited to extremely small creatures, and they will not battle for him. (No combat use.)

Magic Missile: Low Risk - The basic attack spell for every mage. Can be used multiple times before any effect on the caster. Extremely simple attack with the power depending on the amount of magic put in the attack. At higher levels, can incur migraines.

Summon Undead: Medium-High Risk - Can summon skeletons to fight for him. The greater the number, the more of a ware it can put on the user. At a certain point, there is even a chance that Maliarc could join the ranks of the undead, so he sticks to only summoning two or three at a time, sometimes four. Any more than that, and he risks joining their ranks.
->Their combat prowess is nothing great. They could easily take wildlife creatures (though bears and large wolves would likely take down one or two with them) and if against only one or two bandits, four skeletons could likely succeed. (To be honest, they won't work against another roleplayer unless their character has no combat skill. In which case, it's doubtful Maliarc would even attack them.)

Phase Door: High Risk - This spell is purely for convenience. Maliarc can instantly teleport himself or a group of people to any destination by means of a magic door so long as it has been visited before. Maliarc can even use someone else to envision the place, but that person MUST have been there before, and has to WILLINGLY (meaning people coerced (captured people) into letting him in, or sleeping people don't count) let Maliarc in on their mental state. This requires an immense amount of magic, and after the spell is cast, Maliarc will need to recuperate. It cannot be cast quickly, allowing absolutely no combat usage. If he were to try and cast it twice in the same day, he would die.

Fire Trap: Low Risk - Maliarc can etch a rune of fire into a surface so that if triggered, a blast of fire engulfs whoever triggers it. The spell he etches must be on a solid surface not made of wood. Easily seen by novice mages.

Meteor Swarm : Medium-High Risk - Four spheres explode, engulfing enemy in flames. Spheres must be on same level as Maliarc. (Ex: he couldn't be looking up at a balcony and use this spell, or down below him.) As a bit of psychological warfare, the only safe spot (aside from completely fleeing the area) is the exact middle. While the explosion would still sting, the flames themselves leave one, human shaped opening in the perfect middle of the spheres. One use probably wouldn't affect him much, but continued use would cause migraines and sluggishness. Could lead to death if overdone.

Tier III: (These are the spells that require sacrifices and are one a day/week uses. Neither Maliarc nore his enemy(hopefully) will come out unscathed.)

Call of the Beast: Extreme Risk;Sacrifice Required - Maliarc can call parts from a beast of hell to fight for him. If used, the part of the beast he wishes appears through a rip in the planes and will fight for him to a time limited to twenty seconds. The catch: Maliarc loses use of whatever body part he calls upon for a week. That being said, he can technically call upon two legs and two arms. Using his head would immediately kill him, as it would incapacitate his brain. His body parts will heal, but the time limit is never less than a weak (Unless an goddess or something of the sort helped him.) This spell also demands a large amount of magic, so even if he had the body parts, once a day is his limit. Depending on how long he rests, he may even have to wait more. Every use demands a migraine, and will slow him down.
->The body parts he summons themselves are humongous. Several times the size of a human being, they are extremely threatening. (Think a little smaller than the mass of a decent sedan.) However, due to the toll it takes, if Maliarc is alone, and does not kill who he's fighting, he is almost guaranteed to be put out of submission afterwords.

Shield: Low-High Risk - Using his magical powers, Maliarc can summon a shield to protect himself and his allies. The size of the shield determines how much magical power is needed, and what the repercussions are. If he's just protecting himself, the magic needed can range anywhere from minuscule to incredible amounts needed depending on what type of attack he is blocking. Magical attacks require less magic than physical ones, but even strong magical attack will require immense magic to block. In addition, Maliarc can extend his shield to others. Of course, this requires more magic, and the number of people raises the magic required and the risks involved. The maximum number of people Maliarc can protect at once is ten, and most attacks he would block at that point would drain him almost completely. A last measure only.

(A good example of this in RP terms is....say someone with a greatsword attacked Maliarc. If he used enough magic, he could block the sword itself. It would be as if someone had simply whacked him with a large piece of metal. His body would sustain the damage, but the blade itself would not cut through him.)

Find: Medium-High Risk - Using a map and his magical prowess, Maliarc can search for a particular item. Somewhat of a clairvoyance spell, this isn't something Maliarc is particularly adept at. It requires magical power equal to the distance required to find the particular item. If an item were right own the road, it would require little magical power. However, if it turned out the item was across the world, it would drain Maliarc of all magical power and cause immediate unconsciousness. A spell to used sparingly, for sure. (Please note that this spell can only be used to find items, and only if the item is explained in painstaking detail. Even then, there is ALWAYS a chance the item could be a fake, merely resembling the original.) Under no circumstances can Maliarc find people, buildings, etc...)

Unless told otherwise, the way I'll be handling magic in this guild is in terms of usage and magic requirement. For example: Call of the Beast, an easily OP seeming spell, can only be used once every three days depending on how much of the spell he used. If he summoned two arms, then he would need a week to recover before using the spell again (even if he was to summon a different body part), regardless of whether of the fact he'd gain his magical power back after half a days rest.

Ex: Shield. Maliarc used shield to block an attack from a normal longsword. It didn't require much power, so he could probably use that spell four or five more times in one days period, depending. However, he couldn't use it to block an extremely powerful attack, as he wouldn't have enough power left.

Is this alright with everyone? I feel like this creates fairness and since it'll be on my profile, we can return to and reference it at any point if I'm accused of power-playing. To be frank, I don't intend for him to be too much of a combat centered character anyway. I just like to be in depth.

[EQUIPMENT INFORMATION]

Clothing:
In old age he has chosen a simple garb, donning only a large dark blue robe, with simple undergarments.

In his youthful appearance, he still chooses a simple garb, but much more elegant, going with black dress pants, a long sleeved white undershirt and a black vest.

Battle Attire:
His attire does not change for combat.

Cherished Items:
"Liber de morte" - A grimoire given to him by his late father.
"Aaren's Staff." - A etched staff with magic built in so that it can never break that Maliarc uses as a walking stick that was left to him by his mother (so he believes.)(Item holds no power other than a normal staff.)

Special Weapons:

            Weapon Name:
            "Liber de morte"

            Weapon Background:
The grimoire was left to him by his father. Once a grimoire that was meant to hold defensive, healing, and a slew of other, rather random spells, it was quickly turned into a grimoire used to store the exact opposite due to circumstances. While the book itself is not sentient, when fed magic by Maliarc, it will float on its own, allowing him to use both hands for whatever he needs. (It is locked to an orbiting location;Maliarc cannot make it move.)

It does need to be said that if used by another, the spells in the book itself will disappear, and will cause immense headaches. This is true for all beings, simply due to his own and his fathers essence etched into the book. If the book is tampered with, it will obliterate itself, disappearing forever. (As only mages could even use the book, almost all mages would be able to sense the danger.)

(It should also be noted that the book itself doesn't lend any attack or defense power. It is simply a medium.)

Romantic relationships:

Religious philosophy:
Maliarc is not religious.

Political/social philosophy:
"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." - In other words, Maliarc would happily slaughter a town of people if it in some way helped the entire world. Similarly, while he would endeavor to live, he would understand if he had to sacrifice himself for cities, towns, etc. This belief does, however, go out of the window if he believes that any group of people isn't worth saving, or if he believes what he would have to sacrifice is more important that what it's being sacrificed for.
(For example: he would not go out of his way to follow this belief for a town that doesn't contribute anything to society, the greater good, etc...)(Another example: He would not murder a "bad guy" just to save a few simpletons if he believes letting the "bad guy" live would benefit people in one way or another.)

Background:
Maliarc grew up to a loving family. Growing up in the Baelian Islands, they didn't truly experience much hardship. Their only hardship would really come with the mother grew bored of their lifestyle, as humans are prone to do. Still a young child, Maliarc didn't truly understand where his mom was going, only that it was a sad thing. Afterwords, he and his father lived peacefully for a time, before his father eventually fell ill.

Maliarc would believe it was a normal illness, to be cured with rest and time. It was not long before his father succumbed to the illness, and a teenage maliarc would give into sadness. His father being a mage, he kept everything written inside several large books. Upon reading the books, Maliarc began to realize his gift for magic, and what truly happened with his father and mother. He had never given his mother leaving a second thought, it never occurred to him she wasn't coming back until now. And it was because of her that his father fell ill and died.

An emotionally destroyed teenager spent years building up his ability and learning the spells his father knew, though he had kept secret. Even in his books, his father spoke only of how he would never use his spells, and he found them disgusting. Young and naive, Maliarc disregarded his fathers feelings and continued exploring his fathers spell repertoire.

Through the depressing years, the young man decided he didn't want to live alone. Too afraid to leave his home because he had never been introduced into the outside world, but too afraid to whither away and die, he had to do something to bring his parents back. What else was there to do for a mage but turn to necromancy?

To say that it was a failure would be an understatement. The young man visited purgatory on his way through the gates of hell, and he could not imagine what horrors awaited him for something he viewed as so simple. All he wanted was his parents back. The toll it took on his body was immense, rapidly aging him far past his own age. Though he did gain some knowledge, the toll it took on him was immeasurable.

After passing out for weeks, Maliarc eventually came to only to find himself old enough to be most peoples' grandpa, and even some peoples' great grandpa. He could not even bring himself to be angry;he had known the risks when he performed to spell. He simply hadn't expected them to be so....horrifying.

He would stay reclused until he was twenty-two, forming his opinions and feelings about the outside world based solely on books and reports from his familiars he would send out to gather information. Having honed his own magic for this day, he finally set outside into the world.

When he first saw the place he lived, the Baelian Islands, he could understand why his mother had left. They didn't belong here. They were certainly different;he figured his father was the reason they were out here. He had to leave. As many saw him as an old man, he gained travel permits easily and faced little opposition anywhere he went.

On his year long journey to travel everywhere he could, he learned of the worlds current situation, and vowed to "save" it. He would do this by evaluating the state of the world along his journey, and make his opinion upon gathering a valuable impression. He didn't really understand who, or what, this Kamawanaiyo was, but he wanted to know. Was she the key to saving this world? Perhaps it would do better under her rule? Or maybe it was best left to the wily whims of humans and the other races? He didn't know, but he wanted to find out.

Maliarc travels from land to land, trying to meet people and gather opinions on the worlds current situation.
