Shiloh at least had the blessing of not being busy. There was checking up on Jamie (though Jamie seemed to be texting and checking up on him just as often), and then school (which, when did he put effort into school?). The busiest part was probably work (because Aleksy was in the goddamn hospital. God dammit).
Honestly, what Shiloh needed was a distraction. Diving headfirst into this magic nonsense probably wasn't the best way of doing that—actually, it was sort of the opposite—but it was better than peddling around worrying about his friend, or turning up at Thorne's house to sit in the silence wondering if he was even alive. He felt absolutely useless.
At least he had a response. Something to hold onto.

Jeremiah was finishing up the last bit of the official statement. What would have to be cleared with Chief Edwards about what happened at Blackfriars. Talking with Sergeant Kuroda was also part of the process.
Talking with Shiloh and helping him understand, at this point, was far easier to deal with.
Melancholies text to: shiloh i can pick you up if you want. or meet me at the department. then grab something from darlene's and talk.
Another text came a moment later.

Truth be told, Shiloh had already been out and about. The department was still a ten or fifteen minute jaunt from where he was currently, but that was fine. It'd give Shiloh time to prepare for the conversation, gather his questions, think.

Well, maybe not the only person. Shiloh had lost the hoodie and the scarf, but his shirt was decidedly long sleeved regardless. He was pretty accustomed to dealing with feeling clammy as a result, despite trying to keep the material breathable. He looked still relatively comfortable, all things considered. That or he just looked like he didn't care, which was always a possibility.
He didn't really return the wave, and instead glanced away to look at the ground. For all the resolve he had in seeking Jeremiah out, he still felt a little awkward. Make that very awkward.
"S'fine." he didn't want a ride really, but this was the second time he'd been offered and he wasn't going to say no. Especially given the fact that Darlene's was in the equation; like hell he'd turn down free food.
Well, he was assuming Gramps was buying. Maybe he shouldn't be doing that.
"Hope it ain't too much of a bother," not that he really cared (okay, maybe a little) but he mostly worried about word getting back around to Chris somehow and then he'd have to catch hell about it in class. No time for that sort of bullshit. Besides, he was sure he'd end up swearing the detective out at least once tonight, so he might as well try to start it off on an amiable note. "Since I bet you're catchin' a buncha hell and work for all the s**t that went down, huh?"

Jeremiah was dressed for warmth. If he had the extra layers, perhaps the heat would combat the chill he never could be rid of. At least the pain in his back was manageable today, only a faint ache even if he wanted to just lay down.
Also, yes, he was totally buying. The detective lieutenant had offered and he would make sure that it would be his treat.
"It isn't," he replied easily, head tilting towards his car. It was a sweet ride, something old and classic, and Jeremiah got in on the wrong side to drive. Definitely meant to be driven on the other side of the pond but he had somehow managed to get it here to the States.
"Hell would be putting it lightly," there was a snort, waiting for Shiloh to buckle up, "because you are likely to see myself or Sergeant Kuroda out from under the piles of paperwork that we were nearly buried under."

"Mm..." Shiloh made a small sound of acknowledgement as he made it over to the car. He didn't know much about them, but it looked fancy and he did well not to touch the outside. God forbid he ******** it up somehow, especially since it belonged to someone in law enforcement.
Except, he probably wouldn't have to, because Jeremiah was definitely getting in on the wrong side, which meant it was already "******** up" to Shiloh. He watched the older man for a moment before hopping in the other side, biting back some smarmy comment that he knew was bubbling on the tip of his tongue.
"If you say so..." he wasn't sure if he should start asking the questions now or if he should start asking them when they got to their destination, but he hated the thought of riding in awkward silence.
"So like..." Shiloh started to say as he buckled up, "...has this stuff been goin' on for a while?" y'know, the magic.

"A cage."
Shiloh watched at the car pulled in, listened as it came to a quiet stop. His feet were kicking absentmindedly from the passenger side as he rolled the word over and over in his head. A cage, but for what?
He remembered Micheal and how they pushed him in through the portal. Would they ever see him again? Was he part of what they were trying to contain? Maybe not... but the image of his claws rending and his teeth gnashing sent another very real shudder down Shiloh's spine. Other Ashdown seemed incredibly vast. How big was the thing they were trying to hold back?
"Let me guess." he could ask the who-what-when-where-why spiel. "It's terrible and it's trying to get out, right?"
Because that was how most standard horror stories went, if Shiloh had to wager anything. Sure, he was being presumptuous, but...
"People like... like Jamie and I." he swallowed, "And you, and..." s**t, he was thinking about everyone at Blackfriars now, all the ones that stood up to help, all the ones that were injured... why them? What dictated them to be the ones that got swallowed up into this mess?
"People like us. Why... us?" He looked to Jeremiah before unfastening his seat belt. Might as well head inside instead of yapping in the car; he just had to finish his thought.
