===> INTRODUCE THYSELF

...then maybe if you can aloft and...

===>HEY! TALKING TO YOU!!!

...Oh sorry brosis, you was just looking at the most miracolous of ruins and seeing if you could climb it.

Your name is Fletch Queric and you're....round about 4 sweeps old you figure? You dunno maths is not your strong point.

Trollian doesn't exist, and if it did you'd find it complicated, but theoretically your trolltag would be funambulisticFright.

And Sburb would land you with the title Heir of Space.
PostPosted: Thu May 05, 2016 6:42 am
Name:
Fletch Queric
That is the name given to our young troll, and he loves it. The first words spoken by his lusus - that is to say words in the loosest sense, it was more like sounds that were turned into words by the cavern attendants - Fletch considers his name to be a gift from the Messiahs. It's not too manly, it's not too girly - and cooler than that, it even has a meaning! Fletch is apparently something you do to arrows to improve flight capability and accuracy - and that's just perfect for him. Fletch hasn't figured out that his last name is Cirque re-arranged yet, but if he ever does, you can bet he'll shriek.

Blood colour:
#59017e
Fletch's blood is just a shade shy of violet, the very purplest shade of indigo. Which is a little weird, because at first glance, Fletch looks like he should be a seadweller, with (admittedly weird) fins on his face and (if shirtless) those gills at his sides. But take an extended look: The fins are malformed, and the gills couldn't breathe mist. Fletch is trapped between land and sea, an 'inbetweener' if you will with features of a seadweller despite being resigned to land.

Gender:
Genderfluid
Whilst he doesn't have the words for it, Fletch doesn't identify as either boy or girl consistently, and some days he doesn't want to be either, or he wants to be both. He switches pronouns quite a lot, though is happy to be referred to as whatever - generally for ease of use, he sticks to 'he' when it comes to others. It doesn't really bother him, after all. He's pretty secure in himself. When talking about himself though, or writing (haha as if) he does tend to swap pronouns in a very confusing way.

Symbol:
A sword overlaid with a circle, generally simplified to a cross with a circle on it, Fletch's symbol is inlaid to all his clothing - not that he likes to wear clothing very much. Accessories yes, particularly on a sis kinda brosis day, but he's the kind of wriggler who ran around naked for a good perigree after first pupating limbs before his lusus won the argument about clothes. Well, almost - Fletch still refuses point-blank to wear shoes, ever. But then his soles have toughened up to an almost leathery consistency already thanks to the thick calluses, so there's no real need anymore.

Personality:

The first thing that comes to mind after spending any amount of time with Fletch is that he can get a litttttttle bit obsessive about things. Unlike some wrigglers, who do many different types of things and drop them just as fast, Fletch grabs onto a few things with a tenacious toothy terror. Try saying that ten times fast. This doesn't often happen so much with people because of Fletch's ineptitude with other trolls, but it certainly applies to interests. Fletch has four main interests, and we'll cover them one by one.

Somewhat obviously by his stark if skilfully applied facepaint, his first interest is the mirthful messiahs. More of a religion than an interest, technically, Fletch is hugely into the circus, and has snuck out (with toothdad no more than a few metres behind) past curfew to catch the tail-end of meetups more than once, even though he's too little to go. He's always been chased back home by Toothdad, but watching the acrobats tumble and soar, the fire eaters blow streams of lightning-like flames cross the sky...it's touched something deep in Fletch, and he's dedicated to this path. He dreams of blood and facepaint, clubs and canes, of being a top class subjuggalator! Admittedly he's not sure how he's going to subjugate now that the Fleet doesn't exist any more...but he'll do his best to make his dream come true!

The tenets of the dark carnival really appeal to Fletch for numerous reasons. Following your pump biscuit, whimsy and capriciousness? That's great, because Fletch doesn't know which way he's going, half of the time. The Ringmaster, control of your own destiny? This is the ideal that appeals to our little troll most, that with faith and dedication you can be whatever you want to be. And of course Paradise - the idea that if he sticks to his faith, if he follows the tenets that he will be uplifted...well, who wouldn't want that? The circus family as well is a huge draw to our (admittedly kinda lonely) little troll. A group of like-minded trolls who he can rely on and be relied upon in turn, who won't judge him for his quirks.

Because Fletch likes other trolls, he does, but they're. Well, they're exhausting. Fletch struggles to read social cues unless they're blatant, and this can sometimes get him in a world of trouble - He's generally over friendly, calling every troll he meets 'brosis' and hugging and papping people. In a place full of waifs and strays who could do with a bit of comfort this isn't so bad, but to trolls in general it's annoying, irritating, and kind of presumptive, actually! Especially to those who already have that quadrant filled, thank you very much! Subtlety tends to breeze right past him, and whilst he can pick up on obvious sarcasm and puns, complicated wordplay is beyond him. He just wants everything to be simple and straightforward - unfortunately, that's not what trolls are. It's another reason the circus appeals to him, as well as the army. The strict rules and code of conduct leave little room for guesswork.

And if you're going to be part of the circus, you need an act. His horns are a bit small for a successful strong man's physique, and after a nasty incident when he set his eyebrows on fire he decided fire breathing wasn't for him. But they don't really call to him the same way anyway. No, the true wonder on Fletch's face was reserved for when he was watching the acrobats. Fletch will in time call himself a funambulist - an airwalker. Air Walking for him is the the attempt to stay up as long as possible. A mixture of trapezes, tightropes and even parkour, his whole hive was built round the idea of climbing. Fletch is invariably attracted to heights, despite the fear it instilled in his lusus at first - always terrified their charge would fall, and whilst Toothdad prevents him from going too high, he's got pretty darn good at walking along walls and even walking along walls on his hands! He loves it, and he's lucky enough to have the perfect size horns for it.

But still, you don't get good at something like that without practice. Sorry, Practice with a capital P. Fletch has spent every moment since he pupated limbs running, climbing, walking on his hands and making leaps that other wrigglers wouldn't even consider. Even as a grub he was particularly active - Toothdad was reduced to picking up the grub carefully in his mouth to prevent the little purpleblood from escaping more often than not! It's meant he's had some nasty falls, but he's always got over them eventually - though that perigree spent with a cast on his arm was no fun at all.

Here's the thing, Fletch couldn't tell anyone the angles or the physics in what he does. Couldn't calculate how much strength or how many rotations needed to do a flip. But what he can do is do it. For a child, he's lean, muscular and flexible. He can contort himself, throw himself and push himself up with one hand. He can catch an iron bar in mid-air, pull himself aloft and throw himself to the next pole before most trolls could even try and work out the trajectory. He can spin on a dime, turn on a beetle and flip on command. Not to say he does it every time - he falls, he tumbles, he overdoes a flip and trips over. But he's good at what he does - and what he does is acrobatics.

All this exercise has another purpose - Fletch is full of beans, and unfortunately doesn't always know to do with all that energy. Doing so much exercise helps him be happier as well as throw less tantrums. Because here's the thing- Fletch throws a hell of a tantrum. Whether it's sparked by arguing with his lusus, or not understanding something, Fletch's tantrums are almost legendary. he screams and bites and kicks until he's purple in the face. At the age he is, he probably should have grown out of them, but Fletch is somewhat emotionally inept, and doesn't always know what to do with the bad emotions - hence, tantrums.

We mentioned that that face paint is skillfully applied - at least for a wriggler. This is one of Fletch's other interests - painting! Fletch adores the bright colours and pretty pictures paint can make, and although he's not very good at it, it might develop in time. He buys grublood paint from his local store, and dreams of the day that one day he might paint with actual troll blood! Alternia being Alternia, there's always plenty of fresh blood around to look at and admire - there are so many shades a troll can make, and it's beautiful. All their inner fire splayed out in shades like...like. Well, Fletch doesn't have the words for it, but in his own: "it's ******** a miracle from the messiahs that we planetbound trolls can have such beauty inside us."

The thing is, Fletch might appreciate the insides of trolls, but he's not so good with the outside - that is to say, other people. A grubhood and early wigglerhood spent alone climbing and tumbling might have made him physically strong, but it's seen him become a little maladjusted socially. He hates large crowds and enclosed spaces with equal fervor, and he's not the easiest little guy to get along with. Not to say he doesn't try - he's laid back and he tries his best to be nice to everyone, even if they're low on the spectrum. In fact, sometimes he's a bit too nice - Fletch come across as a bit of a pale meddler, which can sometimes be very offensive!

Usually meddling would land a troll as a wanna-be auspistice, but Fletch meddles in a distinctly pale way, asking after your health and mind, offering support and he's very physical with the hugs and the papping. Unfortunately, this physicality is dual-wielded, so to speak. Whilst he's quick to hug you and calm you down, if you try and hurt him seriously, he's also quick to kick you in the shins and bite. Much like his lusus, Fletch's teeth are very, very sharp, and he's used them on more than one messed up troll.

Talking about messed up, we should mention his love affair with the sea. Whether it's because of his slightly too-purple blood, or whether it's seeing the delight on his lusus's face as the amphibious creature hunts and plays in the water, Fletch /adores/ the sea. Whilst he's not a real seadweller in the sense he can't breathe water, he risks life and limb to swim in the shallows, even after the time he almost got caught by a real seadweller and culled. If you get Fletch started on the topic, he won't shut up about the sea - it's the one thing he's managed to get from schoolfeeding is how pollution is bad and will get you culled, how the delicate ecosystem works - oh, and he also won't hesitate to mention how many delicious kinds of fish there are!

In terms of the hemospectrum, Fletch doesn't really care about blood colour so much as how dedicated you are to whatever cause you believe in, how hard you try to achieve the things you want. However, schoolfeeding and society itself has taught him that highbloods are naturally superior, so he still sees lowbloods as inferior, and those higher-blooded than him as someone to respect and admire, if not so much to interact with personally. Dead trolls likewise do not bother him unless he was emotionally invested in them personally - if you died, you didn't try hard enough. RIP you.

Overall, Fletch isn't the most stable of trolls, but his obsessions help him relax., which is why he spends most of his time doing them, and doesn't socialise or see other trolls much. This means that sometimes he is pretty lonely. But better safe than sorry.

Strengths:

Honest

It's not that Fletch can't lie - Toothdad can attest to the fact that Fletch lies, if very infrequently. But it's just that often, he doesn't see the point - the truth almost always comes out in the end anyway, so what's the point in prevaricating? (Not that Fletch knows the word prevaricating.) And if someone's asking if they look nice, they'd rather know that the other outfit suited them better than go out in something that makes them look vulnerable in the wrong way. If you ******** up, surely it's better to admit it and move on then to let it fester and bubble like a ******** poison in a brother's blood? Fletch likes everything to be straightforward and direct, like we've already mentioned, and assumes everyone else does too. This isn't to say he's rude, though! Fletch is conscious that words can hurt, and isn't above re-wording things.

But he rarely lies. He might word the truth in a delicate way, but he prefers to tell the truth, and whilst he'll keep secrets for you, he won't outright lie. This applies to personal relationships, too. If Fletch doesn't like you, he's not going to pretend to - and vice-versa. This means Fletch is relatively trustworthy in a sense - what you see is what you get!

Determined

We've already discussed how Fletch spent most of his childhood tumbling and falling. This has led to him becoming remarkably resilient for a wriggler. Of course he is still very much a child - he still cries if he takes a big fall, but something like a skinned knee or even small cuts and bruises that would make other wrigglers stop doesn't bother him. He doesn't have the safest hobbies, and he's learned to pick himself up through the pain and carry on. If he wants to be the best, he has to keep going. The first time he stepped on something sharp in his expeditions he cried and cried and toothdad had to nuzzle him for almost an hour - nowadays he swears, plucks out the offending object and carries on. Assuming of course, they can penetrate the calluses on his feet. This applies more so to physical pain than verbal abuse or mental attacks - in fact Fletch is quite vulnerable to the latter two, and it's a surefire way to get him mad - but that's not to do with durability! This is not just a physical thing, though. Adapting to whatever life decides to throw your way - be it people or a situation, Fletch tries to use it to his satisfaction. He's the kind of troll that bounces back - never staying down in the dumps for long.

Whilst not many things catch his interest, the things that do, he pursues. He is not the kind of troll to give up easily. Be this in fights, in relationships, or most likely in a hobby, he's the kind of brosis who aloft and does his very best at everything. His best might be failure, of course - you can't be good at anything just through determination, but it's certainly easier to improve with a heavy helping of it. If someone catches your eye and he decides that he wants to be pity/hatefriends with them, he's going to keep annoying or helping them out till they decide FINE might as well let the crazy kid hang around.

Inventive

Whilst not academically smart, and arguably not emotionally smart, Fletch has his own brand of intelligence. Determination gets you through a lot of the time - getting up when your opponent stays down is one way to win, but sometimes things require more. Fletch has a good imagination, and this creative outlook can also be applied to problem-solving. An out-of-the-box thinker, our little purpleblood is good at thinking around problems. Of course sometimes he gets too inventive, but he's a kid - exuberance is somewhat expected.

Flaws:

Absent-Minded

He's dreamy, he struggles to stay still and his words are often a long way apart. He's also kinda spacey. One minute he's up and pitying someone, the next he's staring at a building wondering if he can hook a leg up there then flip outward to grab that strut - oh oops that brother has all been shouting at him for a few minutes whilst he was working out trajectories. He needs to learn to keep his mind on one thing, but it's unlikely that he will! He just can't seem to learn to concentrate - or more accurately, to keep that concentration. By rote of pain he's learned to keep his concentration during his act, but socially not so much.

Inept

He's not stupid. Stupid trolls get culled. But he's not smart, either. Technology confuses him, and whilst he's an adept with ropes and wire and knots, anything trickier than that makes him irritated and annoyed. He's the barrel-on-through kind of troll rather than the pick-the-lock kind of troll, which is good because likely he'd never be able to find out how to pick it in the first place. Physically he's ahead of the curve, but mentally he's on the lower end of the IQ scale. He can read and write but it takes him a while, and anything past basic algebra makes him puzzle up his paint in distaste. It takes Fletch slightly longer than most trolls to learn things academically, and there's been plenty of fighting about schoolfeeding between toothdad and the little clown.

Emotionally Unstable

We've already touched on the fact that Fletch doesn't regulate his emotions very well. Alternian education is a little sparse on emotions, and Fletch has always felt things very, very strongly. This is fine when it comes to positive emotions, even if it can be a tad annoying if he's hyperly bouncing around or crying from happiness...but it's the negative emotions where this has the most impact. When angry or sad or just frustrated, Fletch tends to throw impressive (in the worst possible way) tantrums - full on screaming, wailing fits. Get too close to him in these fits and he won't hesitate to hit you, and whilst as a child this doesn't mean much, it doesn't bode well for his adult state of mind. Toothdad simply waits them out, which isn't helping Fletch get a handle on them either. The easiest way to set Fletch off is to invoke strong emotions in him - be this outright insulting him and the values he holds dear, or even friendly mocking can sometimes be taken the wrong way. it doesn't help as well that like his lusus, Fletch tends to bottle up emotions he doesn't want to deal with, ending in impressive explosions. Well, perhaps impressive is not the word....

Weapon:
Balancing Staff
As a child, Fletch doesn't really NEED a weapon, being as toothdad would up and savage any ******** (in his own words...) that came for him. However, he does own a rather fine balancing staff, carefully painted purple, which he's used to bap people over the head with more than once. Fletch has grand plans to one day turn this staff into a fully fledged fishing spear - because Toothdad has promised that he can, once he's older.

Power
Agility Style B

We've mentioned his malformed and oversized fins, but what we haven't really touched on is how useful they can be - whilst they're not true seadweller fins, they're a mite more....adjustable. Fletch can wiggle, flap and spread his fins at will, and whilst this is generally a source of amusement, sometimes it's more than that - this adjustment ability combined with their large size means they can help Fletch balance when he's doing his acrobatics, and in general make him more agile!

Fletch flip-flops on how he feels about his mutation. On one hand, it's ******** AWESOME. It's like the mother grub up and saw his love for the sea and bestowed upon him a gift from it. On the OTHER hand, they don't actually work, and whilst as a highblood it's an acceptable if not useful mutation, Fletch sometimes wishes he was either a proper landweller or proper seadweller. Most of the time he's somewhat ambivalent towards his additions, for these reasons.

Home:
You live just outside Civisect City.
Specifically in an old tower on the outskirts of the city, near to the sea. It's a rickety old watchtower, it looks like, that spirals high into the sky. At one point it would have been used as an outpost by trolls, but it's been left to the elements for far too long - and it's now too far from the city to be of any use. The top half was completely broken off and open to the elements, so he patched it all up with the help of some carpenter drones, but left a gap with a clever shuttering system (installed by the drones ; Fletch doesn't have the technical aptitude to do something like that) that allows them to open it at night and climb out.. Inside the tower there are various levels all inter-connected with tight ropes, trapezes and just random junk to bounce off! In Fletch's view if you can't get to what you want, you don't deserve it. Still, he keeps the medical supplies close to the ground, just in case. Everything of a personal nature is up on the higher levels, whilst food is high enough so that any wanderers can't get to it. Not that anybody looking at the tower would be able to tell it's worth anything! Fletch suspects the tower used to be part of an old castle - what little scraps are left from the previous owner are certainly fancy enough.

Lusus:
Ottershark, also known as ToothDad.
Fletch might love his hive, but not nearly as much as he loves his lusus. The pair of them are inseparable, even more than a usual child-and-lusus. Whilst when Fletch gets older ottershark might be able to ride around on their broad shoulders, but for now the two trot along on the ground together.

All kinds of ******** cute till he opens his mouth! That's Fletch's favourite phrase for describing him, and it's certainly true. He's small and fluffy and pristinely white, with tiny fins and delicate little paws. His teeth however, are something plucked straight from the day-terrors themselves. It looks like there are so many he can barely fit in his mouth, and he're all razor sharp. Needless to say this means when he nips people for misbehaviour, he don't do it again!
(Okay, so we say people, but it's mostly Fletch. Fletch is not the best behaved wriggler.)

Generally though, Toothdad is a pretty calm guy. He bounces about a lot sure, and needs to investigate everything and can never stay still, but he ain't an angry little dude, not at all. He grooms Fletch's hair every night and licks his wounds if he comes in all injured and makes these little chirping noises. Fletch sometimes makes chirping noises too, come to think of it.

He gets real angry sometimes, though. Not often, mind you. It's like a sea-storm, almost. Brewing ominously until it breaks and everything is danger, noise, rain, lightning and thunder. All aloft and teeth gnashing like something from your dayterrors. Those times it's Fletch doing the grooming as he bites at him - tearing away strips of flesh unless he feed him fish fast enough. He's learnt alot from your lusus - particularly about the sea. As an ottershark he's amphibious and whilst he loves the sea he comes out of it to sleep in the coon with Fletch - and Fletch thinks that's all kind of devotion.
