User ImageUser ImageName: Aether Cosmoe
Aether: The 5th element, said to be the "thing" that makes up the emptiness of space
Cosmoe: Like the cosmos, the world outside our planet, the universe, space

Blood colour: Color #C4AF4F

Gender: Male

Symbol: 3 Diamonds
Simplified symbol of the Aether Foundation.

Profile:

Aether puts his efforts towards expanding his knowledge of the world and everything around it. He is fascinated by science, the world around him, and space. The troll does have one catch tho; Aether is not willing to go into big projects without extensive beforehand planning, learning, and research. This means he spends most of his time with his nose in a book than out in the field. He finds he gleans more from reading books and studies before then moving to the field. It's not that there's anything wrong with hands on work, Its just that Aether cannot stand to see himself fail, and where is a place your cant fail? In a book.

Aether accepts his place in the hemospectrum. Tho it can be frustrating when working with less hardworking trolls, he is inclined to believe and trust the highbloods, and work hard like a lowblood. If someone whom he is supposed to be following has a terrible, or not thought out idea, he will try and gather the courage to make a suggestion, but in reality, the yellowblood rarely speaks up. Aether considers blood color to be the determining factor for a troll’s duties on Alternia, but tends to disregard other stereotypes based on caste. So, yellowbloods are there to be crafters and supporters of the trolls higher in blood then them.

Aether has strong ideals, and can be critical when others stray from them too much. He's not one to speak up about it when it comes to highbloods, but he has his opinions. Mostly this ideal being that everyone should pitch in, highblood or lowblood. He believes in hard work, honesty, and putting one's best foot forward, no matter the situation. Around less hard working trolls the yellowblood can get indignant and frustrated, sometimes even trying to guilt others into working hard or focusing. If things don't get done, then where would we all be? Nowhere father than where we are, and in Aether's opinion the goal of life is to move forward, make progress, and be successful.

Aether loves collaborating with others, especially if it's with another troll he deems intellectual. Even if the other troll did not bring as much knowledge to the table, the act of working together with someone who is also interested and invested is a big bonding experience for Aether. He is open to teaching, and also learning from others. Generally, if he's worked on a project with you, your as good as his best friend. Aether will even seek you out for later projects or socialization. The yellowblood has his own internal feelings, and on the rare occasion that he feels the need to speak up, his words can be critical; pointing out flaws and problems. He tries to be tactful, but does not always possess the social skills to do so. When he opens his glub hole it is more often that a correction or suggestion comes out, other than any sort of attempt to make friends. Aether is not one for small talk.

Aether is interested in mostly mechanical workings, his lusus being a big inspiration for this, but also is fascinated by the history books of space travel and exploration. His interest in space is mostly fictional daydreams at this point, his mind much more rooted in what he actually has access to. He knows he is a kid, so he starts with small projects. His dreams of space travel and the re-invention of space exploration are lofty goals, and he sometimes chides himself for having such unrealistic dreams. Aether may fantasize, but he never pursues a project outside of his abilities. To fail would be the worst thing to ever happen. Failure in the past has lead to life or death consequences that have kept the yellowblopd in check. He needs to do things right or it might lead to the potential death of his lusus. Its because of this that, unless necessary, he prefers to learn from afar for big projects. Learn as much as he can from books before jumping into it with his hands. Aether is especially happy when his tinkering allows him to help others, and because of this he had opened a small repair shop in his hive. Mainly he fixes small things, like toys, clocks and gadgets, but would never turn down the opportunity to work on something bigger, like appliances or vehicles. Aether wants to work on projects himself, especially when he thinks he can actually handle it. Aether has made it his lowblood duty to help fix such things, and he enjoys the work, happy to be a working gear in the machine of the hemospectrum and troll society.

Strengths:
Realistic:
having or showing a sensible and practical idea of what can be achieved or expected.
Aether does not set himself up for failure by dreams of grandeur or outlandish ideas. The yellowblood knows his limits, what he can accomplish, and what he should accomplish. Sure, he will push himself now and then, but its rooted in realism. With this in mind he makes sure that every project he pursues is accomplishable. Its nice knowing that every project is guaranteed not to fail.

Determined:
having made a firm decision and being resolved not to change it.
When Aether has a project in mind, or a particular thought on his thinkpan, he will pursue it doggedly. The yellowblood does not stop until he feels that satisfaction that comes from a job well done, working through any situation, even when hungry or tired.

Autonomous:
having self-government, acting in accordance with one's moral duty rather than one's desires
Aether works well on his own. Where others might spend their time goofing off, or procrastinating, Aether spends his time working, planning, and learning. Maybe he would rather play sometimes, but instead he holds himself to a high standard and woks hard. Its his moral standard to finish what he started, and act as a good example.

Flaws:
Obsessive:
excessive often to an unreasonable degree
When Aether has his mind fixated on something, he does not let go. The yellowblood's insistence on a plan, project or piece of knowledge can get to obsessive levels, the troll refusing to do anything else except for the plan, project or field of study, to an unhealthy degree.

Critical:
expressing adverse or disapproving comments or judgments
Aether has an idea in his mind about what things should look like, or should turn out to be, and if things don't end up at least near his ideal, he can get critical. When things fail he will lash out at himself or to those he is working with, preferring to put the blame on others as opposed to himself.

Atychiphobia:
Fear of failure to extreme levels
Aether’s fear of being rejected or looked down upon keeps his loftier ideas in check. He would never attempt a project he was not sure he could succeed on, and it keeps the yellowblood from really testing himself. The yellowblood refuses to risk his pride even a little bit, his own self worth seeming to revolve around his own success. Not to mention the life of his lusus.

Base # 1,
I really like the ribbon like hair that Vremea and Inakov have, and i think it would fit Aether really well.

Chittentown
Aether's hive is one of his projects. He has been working on it with his lusus for quite a while, always adding new things, fixing something or other, or generally keeping it in tip top shape. The mobile hive usually resides in Chittentown, often near the dump where the troll can scavenge for parts, but he maneuvers it into town sometimes as well. Its this hive where he operates his modest repair shop, taking in any items others need fixed, and doing his best to return them to a operational state.

Lusus:
Lucy; Clockwork Mouse
Aether's lusus, Lucy, requires a lot of upkeep. She has memory issues due to broken components and is fragile due to the intricacy of her build. She was once a mouse, but somewhere along the road she lost almost all of her biological components. The mouse has built herself back up, time and again, as she lost most of her biological body. Now she gets by with a brain, a heart, and the wonders of science.

Aether had to learn fast on how to repair and work with small mechanical bits, thrown into the job of repairing his lusus from the moment they met. The troll constantly worries about his lusus, and also treasures her more than anything. If Aether were to fail at fixing the mechanical mouse, the creature could certainly die. The yellowblood's ability to fix and build is often life or death, and has been since he was a young wiggler. It is Lucy that inspired him to give it his all and to learn all that he could. Lucy is the reason that Aether has become the troll that he is now.

It might seem like Lucy is a burden on Aether, what with her being essentially unable to protect the small troll, and unreliable when it comes to information and support. And it’s true that Lucy herself is unable to fight or protect her child, but she does have the resources to do so. Lucy is ancient, the most elder or elder mice in her den, and so has a few perks with the rank. Every mouse in the dens must spend two months under Lucy’s command before they are considered an adult mouse. Here is where Aether gets his protection and help. The young mice do the heavy lifting, the basic chores, and physical protection. They provide all things the elder frail mouse’s body cannot. The clockwork squeek-beast used to be a treasure trove of information, lessons, and inspiration for Aether, and to a degree still is. Lucy may not look like much of anything now, but she is the one that helped Aether become who he is, and just because the lusus is deteriorating does not mean that Aether would abandon her.

Hi Mic! You know the drill so I'm cutting right to the chase.

Aether's is a smidge outside the acceptable range. I gave the numbers a nudge, and #C4AF4F would put you right in that top left corner.

I enjoy her aloof and critical attitude when paired with her emphasis on cooperation and teamwork. It's a cute dynamic that I think will be fun to see in action.

Currently I'm getting conflicting information regarding her learning style and interests. At the beginning of her profile you mention that she dislikes hands-on learning and prefers to keep information theoretical. But towards the end you mention that she does manual repairs, which is very much a hands-on activity. I would go with one or the other!

Strengths and flaws look good! Nice job addressing the flip side of her determination in her obsessive flaw. (:

Aether's lusus is a big question mark for me. As far as I'm aware, lusii can only be biological creatures and not technological. It's possible that there could be some middle ground with having Lucy be a cyborg as a result of some past troll's experiment, but really that's a better question for...

Just a heads-up: there's some concern about Aether's design being too derivative of Lillie's original look. Ami can give the final say on if things need to be changed.

That said, Aether's personality is looking great! My only crit/questions are regarding her lusus. Firstly, does her lusus have organic pieces? I'm assuming Lucy is some kind of cyborg/was originally a normal-by-Alternian-standards rat, but it's not mentioned in the application outright. Since a pure machine can't be a lusus I'd like to hear more about Lucy's biology and how she ended up the way she is. I like the idea a lot, especially with how it plays into Aether's engineering.

My only other point for Lucy is that she needs to be strong enough in some regard to protect Aether in a fight. She sounds pretty fragile right now.

That's all! Feel free to quote me once you've updated and I'll give you a stamp whenever I get a verdict from Ami.

Re-did the lusus part. I had fun going into her character more, and making her able to at least protect Aether.

Looking forward to Ami’s verdict on appearance.

Thank you for the critique Cylem <3

Verdict hot off the staff chat!

Aether's a little too close to being a cosplay of a licensed media character, which we want to avoid. Characters based off of existing properties are fine. (We've got the Cowboy Bebop Muppet premades, the witchy premades, Muerte, Nanogg, Dalema, etc.) As-is, Aether is looking too 1:1 to Lillie right now, though. If you want to just send Ami a pic of Lillie and have her do changes on her end, that's totally cool. Or you can do your own thing. It's all good.

There's also the matter of Lucy. Dog robots are way beyond the scope of what lusii are capable of. We know lusii are capable of sentient thought and some degree of communication, but between human and animal intelligence we'd rather they lean more towards animals.
