When: During the space ship crash
Where: Lutrin and Kolako's hive in the forest of the Four Fronds

Standing out on the deck of her hive, Lutrin let out a scream.

In the distance, over the top of forest canopy she could make out the thick, unmistakeable form of smoke. She continued screaming.

That was it. That was the last straw. Rushing back into her hive, Lutrin called out for her lusus. “Dad! Dad!! A second later she felt a gentle weight on her her head. Reaching up, she held out her lusus. “There you are!! There's no time! The forest is on fire!!” The sugarglider nodded and let out a bass squeak. Expression serious, Lutrin placed him on her shoulder. She understood what she had to do.

Without missing a beat, she raced to her nutrition block, leaping across the gaps in the bridge. Rustling through the cabinets she retrieved a pair of pitches. Usually she used them for tending to her window garden, but now their purpose would be much more important. She set them down in the base of the sink and turned on the tap. Water came gushing out. When both were full, she turned the water off again, snatched both out of the sink as quickly as she could without pulling a muscle, and sprinted back to the central frond.

Getting out of the tree without spilling any of her precious cargo proved difficult, but she managed it. Huffing and puffing, she adjusted her grip on the handles of the pitchers. Water sure was heavy. Heavy with importance! Taking once last look at the sky, she headed for the source of the smoke.

By the time Kolako smelt the light smell of smoke in her hive, it was already too late. She could see the flames approaching from afar, and it took everything in her to not jump out of her hive the moment she saw it. It'd be easy, y'know, making a new hive somewhere, now that she had the time to empty it out enough. But the moment she saw a small troll slowly begin to pass by her tree with a large and seemingly heavy pitcher of water, she knew there had to be something she could do. How could she immediately think to leave when she should've been thinking about how to stop the problem from it's source? If she moved away, she'd have to rebuild, and not only that, but it was possible the same fire would spread and destroy the entire wood! She couldn't let that happen. Where then, would she live? She wasn't a troll of the city, and to leave the wilds was... Koko puffed her cheeks with indignance. She needed to help! Ay, where was Papi when she needed him?!

Kolako jumped out of the tree, easily sliding down the bark before landing on a lower branch with a light 'oomph.' She straightened herself before sniffing the air-- resulting in a rough cough, having inhaled a lungful of burning trees. She wrinkled her nose, feeling slight urgence as she began to look around the room, searching for the direction the troll had walked-- Maybe she could help them out!! Or were they just trying to escape? First things first-- She needed backup. Clearing her throat, Koko prepared herself for something her father taught her to do since she was just a wiggler. "PAAAAAAAPIIIII!!" A loud half shout, half whine, echoed throughout the area, instantly alerting her guardian to her distress. It worked, usually, but just in case, she let out one more yell-- more of a distress noise than a calling. Now with that done...

The kid jumped from tree to tree with slight hesitance, not feeling completely in her element without her safety net under her. However, she wasn't about to let that phase her! "Holaa!!" She called out loudly, this time lower and more for those within the area. "Alloo! Hay alguien allí? Is there anyone there?" She continued, going in the direction that she hoped was on the way to the fire.

Lutrin had been running towards the fire for only a couple minutes when she heard a voice call out in indiscernible tongues. At least it sounded indiscernible. The more she thought about it though, the more it sounded like a slurred cry for help. Stopping in her tracks, Lutrin tried to locate the owner of the voice. Speech impediment or not, there was no way she could leave behind a troll in distress. The fire could wait.

Even as SugarDad chattered into her ear, Lutrin set off again. She could not really tell what direction the voice seemed to have come from, but picked one that seemed likely. As she ran, water splashing out of her pitcher, Lutrin called out to the mysterious damsel. “Lutrin Squeak Squad, to the rescueeee!”

"Lutrin Squeak Squad??" What even was that? Was that a group? Maybe it was more than one troll... Dropping down to the ground quickly, she almost bumped into the troll but quickly swiveled away, thankful for her quick instincts to keep her away from harm. She steadied herself, pulling back before eyeing the troll with wide eyes and seeing she was also a brownblood with a cute ponytail and face markings. A small beast was perched on her shoulder and she was holding a really big but mostly empty pot of water. Koko squinted. She then shrugged. Something was something! "Hola!! Is that for the fire? Can I help?" She asked excitedly, feeling a sort of feeling of accomplishment at wanting to save their forest.

The telltale shaking of the ground came soon after, signaling the arrival of her massive lusus. The large lion couldn't exactly find his charge considering the intense smell of smoke that was blocking out her recognizable scent-- Her voice, however, was enough to guide him, and Papi would've grabbed her and pulled her away from that area if it wasn't for Koko having asked the other troll if she could help. Papion voiced his displeasure with a grunt and a low growl, arriving at the scene with a tense atmosphere around him. The other troll was a brownblood sure, but that didn't mean she wouldn't use the pitcher to whack her and kill her! He needed to protect her, she was his little princess, after all. Koko didn't notice his tenseness, simply giving him a determined stare and pointing at the fire.

      Papi shook his head.

      Koko nodded affirmatively.

Papi shook his head once more, but Koko wasn't even looking at him at this point, looking directly at Lutrin. She would help whether Papion liked it or not!

When something suddenly dropped down from the trees, nearly landing on top of her Lutrin let out a shriek. Releasing her pitcher, she jumped into a fighting stance, feet spread and hands flat. Only a second later did she realise her mistake. The troll standing before her looked to be about her age, and a redblood to boot! Lutrin clapped her hands to her face. She had no idea she had such a cute neighbour—assuming the redblood lived in the forest.

Lutrin opened her mouth to reply, but a heart-stopping roar silenced her. Her eyes grew wide, as an enormous lion pounced through the trees. Her spine locked. A shiver ran all the way up from her toes to her horns. Every hair standing on end, she looked as though she had been electrocuted. She could feel SugarDad frantically patting her shoulder. Then, as the ringing in her sponge clots faded, she heard a high whine. She pushed her mouth shut with the heels of her hands, and it stopped.

“It is for the fire, yes!” she replied. Then, hands at her side she began to bow up and down rapidly. “And-it-is-very-nice-to-meet-you-sir!”

Kolako felt a little bad she'd practically scared the wits out of the troll, but she felt a great desire to help, and now. She also felt a little bad at how frozen stiff she became after Papion arrived, and grabbed the whining trolls shoulder, glancing at Papion with a frown. "T-this is my lusus!" She explained, a little late, as the other was already bowing formally-- "He won't hurt you, lo prometo-- I promise!" She reached over toward the other, trying to stop them-- then decided to maybe change the topic, leaning into them, "I'm Kolako! Donde puedo ayudar? Where can I help?"

Even after Kolako promised that she would come to no harm, Lutrin could not help but side eye the enormous lusus. He could easily swallow her in one bite, not to mention her own lusus! Still, the redblood's willingness to help settled Lutrin's nerves. She stopped bowing and offered the redblood a smile.

“I'm Lutrin! And this is SugarDad!” She patted the head of the sugarglider perched on her shoulder. The lusus tipped his hat towards Kolako and Papion on, before letting out an urgent squeak. Lutrin gasped. “Right!”

Picking up her pail, she turned away from Kolako to point back the direction she had come. “The fire is coming from that way! We should hurry!”

Kolako was relieved when the brownblooded girl calmed, giving her a both cheery and determined smile as she introduced herself and her lusus. When the lusus let out a squeak, Papion grunted a little-- But Kolako was having none of his bullshit. She was not loosing her home! Koko nodded eagerly at Lutrin before getting an amazing idea, letting out a loud sound of excitement before jutting a thumb at the large creature behind her-- "We can ride on Papi!" ...Whom in response, simply glared at the younger ones offer. He almost began to complain, but a single tug at the fur of the massive lusus, quieted him up. "Unless, y'know, its really close. Si no, we can just run..."

Reminded of the urgency of the situation, Lutrin shut out her fear. “I don't know how far it is,” Lutrin admitted. “But SugarDad can go look, right?” She turned to her lusus. He had been eyeing the lion warily, though he now offered a stiff tip of his hat. Lutrin glanced between the two lusii. “Right, dad?” she echoed, after a moment.

Finally, the sugarglider nodded. Chirping what sounded like a warning to Lutrin, he bounded off into the trees. Lutrin breathed a sigh of relief. “We need to get more water though. I uh...” In her surprise, she had spilt most everything in her pail.

Kolako nodded in agreement, thankful Lutrin seemed calmer in now. She waved to the departing lusus, giving him a big friendly smile before turning back to her new friend and offering her a ride. “We can get more with Papi! He can stuff soo many gallons of water in his mouth!! We can go real quick!”

Green Minuet
“Really?” Lutrin brightened. All of a sudden, the big white presumably carnivore lusus did not seem so intimidating. She bounced on her feet with delight, then lunged forward to hug the roarbeast by the thick ruff of his mane. Her arms did not even reach halfway around. Pulling away before he could growl (or take a bite out of her) she addressed Kolako.

“Excellent!” She grabbed a small dead branch from the forest floor. “Kneel, Kolako of the Four Fronds, and I shall induct thee to the noble and heroic Squeak Squad!”

quite uneventful
Papi on did not comment, instead, staring at the small creature on his leg before looking at Kolako (whom smiled brightly, excitedly) and releasing a loud grunt. He didn't mind it, Kolako did it all the time, but...

Kola love immediately dropped down to her knees. She didn't know how kneeling went, but it was something like this, right? She then looked up at Lutrin, grinning widely. “Lista! I'm ready!”

Green Minuet
Lista... What a curious name! Or command. Lutrin was not sure what kind of word it was. She would have to ask Kolako later what it meant. For now though, there were more important things to do: like dubbing her second in command.

Holding the branch aloft, Lutrin tapped Kolako's left shoulder, then her right, with showmanship and grace. As she did, she proclaimed in a loud voice for all the forest to hear, “Kolako! You have been recognised for your optimism, initiative, and sheer cuteness. As such, you have earned a place on the Squeak Squad. You are hereafter sworn to protect the forest and all creatures in it! May justice serve you well. Now rise, my lieutenant! Rise and take your weapon!”

Dropping to her knees, Lutrin offered up the stick with both hands.

quite uneventful
Kolako watched as Lutrin dubbed her, not understanding the point of the spectacle but finding it entertaining to watch. She giggled at the end, grabbing the stick and standing up, feeling no different from before but trying to appear honored and excited. She grabbed it, eyeing it for a second before thrusting it into the air passionately. “Let’s go get water!! AGUA!!”

Green Minuet
There was a gap in the forest canopy, where the moon shone above a smoldering orange glow. Ash and sparks peppered the air, already thick with smog. In the centre of the clearing was a half-metal, half-chitin monster, the source of the blaze. Branches and leaves lay crushed beneath it, ripped so cruelly from their owner's arms. Many of them were alight, reaching out to the rest of the forest as though straining for assistance or vengeance. Flames licked at roots of trees, and scorched their trunks. Though the fires were small and few, it was like a scene out of hell for Lutrin. It took all her effort not to scream or faint.

Pulling her bandanna tighter around her face (she had made a quick stop to retrieve one for both herself and her new friend) Lutrin slipped off the roarbeast's back. “Lieutenant!” she called, her voice muffled by the coarse fabric over her mouth. “Get those pitchers, stat!” Then without further ado, she jumped on top of a pile of embers, stamping them out with her sneakers.

quite uneventful
Kolako felt the heat so much more after arriving at the area. It was much more concerning, and Koko couldn't help but wrinkle her nose uncomfortably at the sight of the fire licking the trees around her. Watching Papion scratch his nose uncomfortably from the heat, cheeks bulging from the water in them, Kolako finally understood the bandana around their faces, finding the air staler and generally a strain to breathe. Following Lutrin, Koko looked toward her quizzically at the pitcher directions, and assuming she'd meant Papi's mouth, nodded affirmatively at her. Koko looked at Papion before patting his leg and starting to point at the fire before waving her hand all over. “Papi!! Tiralo en TODO!!” She exclaimed-- “Throw it ALL OVER!!” Papion sprayed the water all over the area, enough to dim down some of the flames but not enough to completely put it out. Kolako gasped. She honestly thought it'd be enough! Looking at Papi, Koko pointed at the direction they came from before swinging it back at the fire and mewling some sort of communication with Papi. He huffed and stomped away, not seeming worried enough about the intense fire, receiving a loud roar from Kolako in return. She quickly followed after Lutrin, beginning to stomp and kick the wet dirt underneath their feet into the fires nearby. “Papi!! Went to go get more water!! Should we keep kicking??”

Green Minute
Lutrin paused in her stamping to watch as Kolako's lusus released the mighty force of a hurricane upon the fire. The effect was a little less dramatic than she expected. Also, not as effective as she hoped. Plenty of flames still licked at the clearing. She resumed her attempt to squash out the life from the coals. The soles shoes were beginning to feel uncomfortably warm.

“Yes!” she exclaimed through her mask. “We must fight on, even as the rest of the world forsakes us! We must fight for the lives of all those who make this forest home. We must fight for... Omigosh! Lutrin let out a shriek, clapping her hands to her face. Your anklets are on fire!

Suddenly she lunged at Kolako, tackling her to the ground. In a panic, she threw her whole body across the flames.

quite uneventful
Koko supposed having the soles of her feet exposed sort of made that a given. She hadn't really felt the fire until she heard Lutrin's scream of terror, and the small lioness was suddenly shoved to the ground where the fires were rampant. Kolako shrieked, throwing wet dirt at Lutrin in efforts to dim down the fire. It was wet, it would help, right?!?! She continued to flail. Lulu you're also on fire!!! She screeched, uncaring for the new pain on her ankles and instead worrying about her new friend.

Green Minuet
“What?!” Lutrin lurched to her feet. The scent of smoke clogged her nostrils. She looked down. Sure enough, her shorts and the bottom of her shirt were on alight. Lutrin's hands flew to her face, and she let out a scream. “Nooooooo!! Get it off, get it off!!” she wailed. Rather than act reasonably and sit down (or at least drop to the ground), she took off sprinting around the glade. Baby fires blossomed and burned behind her, where her clothes caught on brush and branches.

quite uneventful
Kolako screeched. “No no, stay— QUEDATE QUIETA! Stay still!!” She exclaimed, this time also leaping at the brown blood and beginning to pat her down.

Thankfully, the rumble of the ground let er know that Papion was back with more water. Her feet were on fire, literally. Hearing their screams, Papion approached their group again, this time with cheeks bulging and worry spread across his face. His baby was hurt. He began to spray the water on both of them, making sure the fire stopped licking at their bottoms before moving back to the fire in the trees. He doused it on the biggest fires first, dimming them down to a more manageable size. He grumbled somethings at Kolako, panting some before shooting off again, almost invested in their good-doing.

Kolako looked at Lutrin, a lot more relaxed but still panting from fear. “H-he says he'll be back. Pero that we, we gotta find a way to dim it down so it doesn't get any bigger!” They needed better ideas than running around screaming.

Green Minuet
At the sound of Kolako's voice, Lutrin froze. Her left foot hovered in the arms, while she balanced on her right. Both arms were outstretched to either side. She was so still she might have just been a statue, or a mime, as her mouth shaped soundless words.

Suddenly Papion returned, dousing the brownblood in a spray of water that neutralised the flames. There was a sizzle and a hiss as the last of the fire on her shorts sputtered down to embers. Lutrin beat them out with her palms, then—once they had well and truly died—breathed out a sigh of relief.

“Um...” Lutrin scratched her chin thoughtfully. Her brow furrowed as she contemplated the problem. If they kept making trips to get water they would be here all night. They needed a way to prevent the fire from spreading so they could focus on putting out the rest of it. At last her eyes lit up. She raised a finger skywards. “I got it! What is fire's weakness?” she asked Kolako.

quite uneventful
Kolako breathed heavily, thankful for Papion saving them from the biting flames. She looked toward Lutrin, tense, but after seeing she was alright, the redblood released an exhale. Good. They were fine. Kolako tried to think of ways to take out the fire, but really, she wasn’t too practiced in controlling or putting out fires. She looked at Lutrin, pensive. “Ah… Creo… Water? Or… Sand?” Kolako looked at the ground. “Dirt? I don’t know, no se…” She seemed truly stumped.

Green Minuet
“Exactly!” Lutrin grabbed Kolako by the shoulders with a grip like a titan. “Sand and water! Dirt and water! And what do they make? Mud! And because it's water and dirt combined, it should be doubly as effective, right?”

Releasing the redblood, Lutrin let out a sharp whistle. SugarDad suddenly appeared in front of her, dropping down from the canopy. “Dad! You're our lookstubs! You watch the area and alert us of any new fires. Kolako will be helping you out. Meanwhile her lusus will be responsible for bringing fresh water. As for me...” Lutrin dropped to the her hands and knees. She began furiously digging at the ground with her hand, kicking up leaves, twigs, moss, and finally earth. Pitching it through her legs like a barkbeast, she soon had a large pile sitting behind her. She spoke as she digged. “I'm on digging duty!”

quite unevenful
Kolako’s eyes widened, and she gasped. “That’s so right!” She squealed, smiling brightly and grabbing the other right back, thinking this was normal. She giggled, nodding affirmatively. Lutrin was really taking charge of the situation! “Alright, we’ll be back soon!” She followed after Sugardad, eager to help out as much as she could while Papion began to run once more, seeming sort of tuckered out but definitely not deterred.

Green Minuet
Two hours later, Lutrin stood in the centre of the clearing, panting with exertion. Sugardad perched on her shoulder, his hat clasped to his chest. Surrounding them the forest glade was a ring of black, smoking wreckage, quiet except for the wind. Despite the immediate ruin, the rest of the forest remained unmarred. Between the four of them, the two trolls and their lusii had tamed the fires. They had been rendered unrecognisable for their efforts though, singed and covered in soot and mud.

As Lutrin finished her survey of the clearing, she suddenly flopped onto her back. “Victoryyyy...!” she cried. Her victory shout fell a little short, ending in a wheeze.

quite uneventful
Kolako, meanwhile, lay on the muddy, dirty ground with droopy eyes and a dead stare. “Oooohh Reina. I'm so tiredd....” She groaned, shifting slightly and laying on her side. “Jaaaa. Que cansansio... pero, we did it? Right? Squeak Squad...!” She thrusted a weak fist into the air, seeming lucid. She truly needed her recuperacoon after everything. Papion released a weak grunt, positively matted in mud. They would both need a good bath, not that either of them were looking forward to it... “Squeak squad... rules...!”

Green Minuet
Lutrin turned her head to look over at Kolako, who lay several yards away. The redblood looked just as tired as she felt. With a final burst of energy, Lutrin rolled over to her friend. Beneath the mud mask caked over her face, she smiled. “We sure did!” she replied. Despite her exhaustion she felt a warm glow.

She opened her hand and offered the palm to Kolako. “You make a good partner!”

quite uneventful
Looking toward Lutrin with a slightly surprised expression, she eyed the open palm with curiosity and interest. Was this a... high five? She'd seen them before, but hadn't really done them before. There was always something new to be experienced with other trolls, she guessed. Raising a careful hand, the red blood pressed her hand against the others. It went like that, right? “You too!!” She said with a giggle, giving her a bright smile. They'd saved the night and Kolako made a new, good friend. All in all, tonight was a good night!
