Aston returned Doul to his ball after the Abra fell unconscious. Putting the ball back into his bag, he spotted the four TMs and blinked. That move got stronger the more a Pokemon liked their trainer, didn't it? Aston thought for a moment. Presa would be a good Pokemon to give that move to, right? Actually, now that he thought about it, all of them except Meleeon could learn it at this point. But, he only had four. Aston decided to focus on the four on his active team rather than teach it to Sofie right now. It'd be more beneficial.

After a moment, she stopped, and slapped a hand over her face, sighing. He was right. ”I had completely forgotten about that,” she muttered. She lowered her hand, and looked to the two pokemon she had with her. ”You two can’t surf…” she mused, and Lucy, with wide eyes, shook her head to confirm. Mel sighed again, but smiled a little all the same. ”Ah well… fairly sure we can still continue this way to Veilstone, and take the train,” she decided, reaching up to adjust her bag strap, and then pressing forward. All roads led to, well… Castelia, in this case. They’d get there, sooner or later.

Brian used the first opportunity to finally toss out his popsicle stick as they started through Jubilife City. "So after you get everything, are you planning on coming back here and trying the gyms?" he asked curiously, reaching into his own pack to pull out an opened bag of chips. Mel eyed the snack, then gave him a look with a raised eyebrow, before turning her gaze forward. "Dunno, to be honest. I definitely plan to start trainin' 'n everythin', but... I haven't quite figured out whether I'm going to try Sinnoh's gyms or not. I was actually thinking of Kalos," she admitted, raising an eyebrow at him. He glanced sideways at her, slowing as he lifted a chip to his lips. What was that look-- oh! She wanted his opinion. "Sounds fine to me," he replied nonchalantly, giving a shrug and popping the chip into his mouth. Mel rolled her eyes a bit. "They have some whacky pokemon over there, though. You know if you're looking for anything specific?" He looked at her curiously, this time grabbing a handful of chips and munching away at them bit by bit.

Ignoring her companions eating habits -- or trying to, at least -- Mel looked thoughtfully up at the sky. "Not really..." she mused. She pulled out her pokedex, looking at it contemplatively. "The professor mentioned whatever I caught sent helpful data to him and his colleagues, but... I'm not really planning to get very many myself," she admitted, "I already have Z, and Lucy. I'll probably get at least one or two more back at home, from my dad, if nothin' else. I know I'll probably want to cover some of my type bases or what have you, but... I can probably figure that out after, yeah?" She snapped her pokedex shut, looking back up at Brian. Truth be told... he actually knew more about this stuff than she did. He was a normal kid, back when they were younger. Er, well, at least in that he was into pokemon, and going on a pokemon journey, and becoming a master trainer. He even caught his horsea back then. Mel, on the other hand, had spent her younger years stalking policemen, trying to stop criminals, training to get stronger, and trying to form an actual team of cops to fight the robbers, rather than just doing so to play the game. She was like... the nerd of crime fighting, back then. And still to this day, really.

At the sight of the bustling city looming before them Grayson made the quick decision of returning Styx and Litwick, starting with the latter first in the hopes that taking him by surprise would keep him in his pokeball longer. As the red light retracted into its designated pokeball Styx seemed rather surprised at the sudden return, Magikit's ears twitching curiously at the sight, though she understood immediately and waited patiently to be returned as well. Jubilife was such a large city, nothing like the smaller towns they'd been in lately, and Grayson didn't have the patience for Styx to become distracted or for Litwick to try and make a break for it, he'd promised the candle that he'd 'leave him to his own devices'--which was code for turning a blind to an eye if the Litwick felt the desire to try absorbing the life energy of unsuspecting inhabitants--but he didn't trust the pokemon enough not to try and leave yet.
"Hey, you!" From behind him a young voice called out and, with a grunt, Grayson turned around slowly. Stuffing his hands into the pockets of his hoodie he looked down in disapproval at the young girl who'd called out to him, watching as she literally ran him to him, eager wasn't she? "Can I help you?" he drawled, raising an eyebrow expectantly in her direction. "Yeah! I saw those pokemon of yours! And I--" Still in mid-explanation the girl stopped abruptly when Grayson pulled his hand from his pocket and indicated she stop talking. "You wanna battle? Eh, sure. Show me whatcha got."
The girl, initially surprised at how quickly the gloomy looking teen had caught on, quickly recovered and beamed brightly as she dug around to retrieve her first pokemon. Meanwhile Grayson had already called out his first pokemon, Litwick-- as redundant as it was, considering he'd just recalled the pokemon. "You're going to be fighting a pokemon, so keep an eye out, Charon." Litwick, still clearly miffed by the pointless recalling, blinked in confusion. Charon? Was that his name now? It was... stupid. The newly named ghost wasn't given time to try bargaining for a new name, however, as his advisory quickly appeared before him. Charon couldn't help but to smirk, his wick sputtering to life. Oh... this was too easy.

As expected, the battle between Charon and Vanillite lasted all of two seconds, Charon wasn't surprised, Grayson wasn't surprised, hell even their opponent didn't seem too shocked to find her pokemon had been beaten back so easily; there was some comfort in knowing that Grayson wasn't up against a child ignorant of type advantages. What was even better was, rather than comment on the battle, the young girl simply returned her pokemon before she sent out her next, her smile still visible.
Grayson took in the small panda that would serve as their next opponent, unintentionally entering a staring contest with the pokemon when he made eye contact. "Hm." The teen folded first, looking away in favor of giving Magikit a curious look. "Kit?" The feline looked back at him with wide, expectant eyes, his ears angling towards the human. "...Never mind, it's nothing," Grayson mumbled before he turned to look ahead. He'd been considering sending the pokemon out, given his psychic typing, but considering that he was newly hatched, it was better that Magikit simply observe rather than participate; he'd learn just as well from the sidelines.

Though there was no clear type advantage Charon still managed to take down his opponent with ease, Grayson hadn't realized this girl had such weak pokemon on her... The male found himself yawning as the defeated Pancham was called back, an action that didn't go unnoticed by his opponent. "Is this battle boring you?" she asked, eyebrows furrowing in concern. "Oh, nah," Grayson waved her assumption away, in no mood to deal with the waterworks the child might produce. "I'm just..." Harboring a long departed soul that prevented him from getting any degree of sleep? "Tired. It's not you, promise."
His explanation seemed enough to appease the girl and Grayson watched as the worry in her eyes faded away, and her smile returned. "Okay, I'm glad!" Geez, kids... He shifted himself as he waited for the next pokemon to be sent out, then proceeded to raise an eyebrow when a decent pokemon was sent out, and one that Charon certainly wouldn't be able to defeat in a single blow. "Morta." The young girl raised an eyebrow as Grayson seemingly called a name out of one of his pokemon, though... he made no move to retrieve a pokeball. However, it quickly became clear who the male was referring to as a figure appeared from behind him, quickly taking the field and shoving Charon out of the way to do so.
"Oh!" Surprised, the girl looked on with round eyes at the Gengar that had, from her perspective, appeared from thin air. "I guess that's the 'Morta' you were talking about, well.. alright then!" Adjusting her cap, she put on a grin; it was always nice to see a new pokemon. "Let's see how well she does against my Squirtle!"

Grayson slipped his hand back into his pocket, keeping the other out while holding onto Charon's pokeball. He doubted he'd need to return the pokemon, but with the way he kept glaring daggers into Morta's back as she battled made him believe it was best to keep it out as a precautionary measure. "Don't get any ideas," he warned him as Morta took on another pokemon, managing to come out unscathed due to a paralysis, which earned him a glare in return from the Litwick. "You'll get another chance to battle, so just sit tight." With that said Grayson shifted his attention back to the battle, the beginning of a frown appearing before it slipped away. Even if his pokemon were doing well, this battle was taking longer than he liked; he'd need to update their moves soon.
