Oreburgh City is a city located in central Sinnoh. Oreburgh is a mining town blessed with significant natural resources. Prominent vents throughout the city exchange the stale air from the mines below with the fresh, above-ground air. Oreburgh is home to the Oreburgh Mining Museum, as well as the Oreburgh Mine. The miners often take breaks in the Gym between the work shifts. Roark lets the citizens of the town train their Pokémon in the mines. The Oreburgh Mines are to the south of the city.
The Oreburgh Mining Museum is a museum located north-east of Oreburgh City. The Oreburgh Mining Museum is a large, one floor museum that contains many visual displays as well as facts about coal and the Oreburgh Mine. Unlike other museums, the Oreburgh Mining Museum is free to enter.
The Oreburgh Mining Museum primary importance is the resurrection of fossils, which is done with the help of the man near the counter. He will be able to revive these fossils for free but only one at a time. He is very bossy, annoyed when you comes by too early or late, and gets disappointed when you don't give him a fossil.
However, probably of most importance to trainers traveling through the area is the fact that Oreburgh is the location of the first Gym in Sinnoh, led by Roark. It is here where trainers receive the Coal Badge, the first badge one can earn in the conquest of the Sinnoh region's Pokémon League.

Before he even made it to Oreburgh he was stopped by a wild Ponyta that had no intention of letting him pass without a fight. Not one to turn down the call of the wild he let loose Piplup to handle the fire type.

Oreburgh was a mining town nestled in the side of a mountain. The city was chalk full of natural resources, most notably a very successful coal mine. At first glance that appeared to be it, but again as usual he would be taking a trip around the city to scout the area. He wondered if anyone in this city had any idea where to find any overly powered Pokemon in Sinnoh. Of all the regions this was the one he had spent the least amount of time in. He knew of the stories of Mt. Coronet and things of the like but without confirmation himself he wouldn’t believe things like that. One of the reasons he chose the Sinnoh region as his starting point was because of the legendary Pokemon said to make their homes there.

Along with the mine, there was also a mining museum. Overall the city was ran by the mining industry, it would be a critical point in the Sinnoh region. It seemed like every region in the Pokemon region had a certain city like this, an energy hub for the region. He quickly realized that Oreburgh was that city, providing copious amounts of coal to the rest of the region. Machop ran rampant in the city, helping miners and acting as miners themselves. And of course the most interesting thing in the city to King, was the gym. Led by Roark, complete with a hokey sign out from that said ‘Call me Roark the Rock!’ he looked forward to taking down this worm.
Not quite willing to challenge the gym at this time he wanted to make sure that he was going to be ready to battle his first gym. Not going to let himself rush into combat he was going to make sure he was able to handle whatever the Rock was ready to throw his way.

Deciding to head south from the main area of the city he wanted to head to the mine and see just what it was about. Obviously not dressed as a miner he would garner negative attention from those who worked here. Not worried about that he decided that exploring the mine would be important, he wanted to see if there were any tough Pokemon inside the mine. In any area like this there was no way that weak Pokemon would be sticking around inside the caves for that long, especially with so many people travelling in and out of them during the day.
Eager to see what would happen inside the cave he stepped foot inside the cave to see what exactly he would find inside.

As he entered the cave a swarm of Zubat's flew out of the cave, one of them stuck around to battle. Sending out Piplup he prepared to battle.

Typical of caves to be swarmed with Zubat, that was the same anywhere. As much as the bats reminded him of his own outfit he saw them as pests. He had once been told something about travelling, ‘No matter where you go, if it’s a cave, you can expect Zubat.’ This was turning out to be true, it seemed like every time he had entered a cave he was almost immediately swarmed by the creatures. It wasn’t like they were too much to handle, but he still saw them as pests. Moving further into the cave he grew more curious as he entered, he was looking forward to what he would find inside.

The mine was very popular, it was the cities livelihood and the hub of much of what the city stood for. As he walked through, more out of place than he usually was, he noticed that this truly was the heartbeat of Oreburgh. It was very interesting to see what the city was built around, someone had the inspiration to build this city nestled in the mountain, complete with the mine intact. King could not be sure just what was going through the city founder’s mind when he decided this was where they would build Oreburgh yet he couldn’t help but relating.
King held a dream of building a unified world, a nation combined of the current regions, where people could live in harmony. But without something centralized to create that land around, in this case the mine, he could not build that. With a small snort he realized that there was more than just a gym in Oreburgh city. There was an ideal, an ideal he would carry forward with him.

Running his gloved hand across the wall of the mine he brushed the soot off. He was impressed at how well the mine was run. He marveled at the feat of building out the mine, he couldn’t help but being amazed by the mine. He was well aware the mine wouldn’t go on forever and as he moved further in the shaft began to shrink. His figure was not going to be able to continue too much further into the mine. Sighing he turned away, sticking to the entrance area of the mine he would still be able to run into Pokemon he could test his mettle against, but he wouldn’t be able to go much further in with the miners working there.

On his way out of the cave he encountered a Pokemon he didn’t expect, a very rare pokemon when compared to the others in this area. Snorunt, an ice pokemon who hung out in caves in less snowy areas. Being born in Snowbelle he was used to the sight of Ice Types, however they seemed much rarer when it came to finding them in less snow filled areas. Reminding him so much of home he definitely wanted to bring it along with him.
Kneeling down in front of the Snorunt he reached out his hand, “Snorunt, I am offering you a position with me. I know you may not understand. But you remind me of home, and I would like to bring you with me. What do you say?” The Snorunt moved towards him, inching her way towards the kneeling masked man. It seemed like she was agreeing with his offer. His charisma knew no bounds, even extending towards Pokemon, as the Pokemon inched closer he pulled out a small ball that grew in his hand. Capturing the Snorunt with little effort it would be another excellent partner to carry with him on his journey.

Rounding out his team with a Pokemon that reminded him of his home King was now growing closer to his complete group. Ice was a powerful type used to counter Flying types, the bane of Larvesta, and Dragon types, a fairly powerful overall type. Although Ralts could handle the Dragon type with her fairy typing it would be good to have another safeguard against the Dragons. Having an ice type was a valuable addition to the team, and Snorunt was adorable, so that was a bonus.
As he entered the city again he decided to head to the Center to heal up his Pokemon again, it was better to be on the safe side, especially when fighting out of his league like he was in Oreburgh. Although he had an advantage when it came to strategy he was still fighting Pokemon more powerful than he was and anything was going to be possible when it came to fighting stronger Pokemon.

Not content with his current power he was still not happy with his odds of being able to defeat Roark. The mine was filled with Pokemon, mostly Zubats and Geodudes it seemed, but he would want to head to the outskirts of the town to do more training. It was going to be a while still before he would feel confident enough. What he needed to do was find another trainer willing to battle him he was sure he would be able to find one on the outskirts of Oreburgh who would be willing to test their mettle against his team.

It didn’t take long for him to find one of the miners willing to take a shot at him. Battling in the center of the city he found a challenge with little trouble. Not worried about the reputation that this would cause him to generate in Oreburgh he did adore the attention. With citizens looking onto the battle the two opposing trainers tossed out their first Pokemon and began the public showdown.

The crowd applauded as the battle finished. While some of the onlookers walks off in disgust that the stranger had won the battle but there was enough of a crowd to appreciate the battle regardless. King put on a show in the public eye but was a fierce competitor otherwise, he enjoyed showing off but knew when seriousness was required. The miner’s pokemon left little to be desired and Oblivion Wing and Piplup carried the bulk of the work. But either way he had dominated the battle with a trio of Pokemon. Not willing to send Snorunt to her doom he decided it would best to keep her out of that battle. Otherwise it was a good and productive battle. A short trip to heal his team up would be good, before hitting the outskirts of the city to get some wild Pokemon battles under his belt.
