Kaeden nodded silently, unable to offer an immediate response as he reflected on her words. "It won't be too long until they're calling you back in. Just give it a bit of time," he offered, an easy confidence in his voice that helped to reassure Jinx. She nodded back at him, then pushed her hands in between her thighs, until her palms touched the wooden bench she sat on, and leaned forward to bring herself closer to the screen. "How was your day?" She'd talked enough about herself, now she wanted to hear from Kaeden.
"It was fine. Business as usual, really. I was able to finish that project though. So, that was nice," Kaeden answered, with the sound of a chair scraping against the floor following, as he settled himself back into his seat. "Oh, right. Before I forget, I wanted to get you something, to help take your mind off this reassignment." Jinx noticeably perked up. A present? She opened her mouth to begin firing off questions. "Before you get your hopes up." He was quick to interrupt her. "It's nothing from your usual arsenal. It's a pokemon. I think you'll really find a use for it though." A pokemon? That was... drastically different from what she'd expected from Kaeden, or could have hoped for really. But, it was a present from her brother, so she'd cherish it all the same.

While Jinx continued her conversation with Kaeden, outside, Opal was having a less than stellar time. Oh sure, it'd started off fine, as the most effort she had to extend was tuning out the sounds of battle, but after a few fights (if you could even call them that, with how one-sided they were) she'd become acutely aware of how much Agate was fidgeting; pressing her claws together, tapping her feet incessantly on the ground, and even swinging her tail back and forth. As unperturbed as she tried to keep herself, seeing her do all this was starting to make even Opal feel a bit antsy. So it was then that she'd decided that it was Agate's turn to knock a few heads together, but... that'd been over five minutes ago, and within that time period all she'd managed to accomplish was earning Lazurite's attention only after she'd dispatched another pokemon.

"Hey." Sparing Opal a glance, Lazurite growled softly. "I don't know what murky depths you were born in, but on this team we learn to share and take turns." At least, those were the rules when she was in charge. Lazurite growled again, this time bearing teeth, which prompted Opal to simply sigh. She really wasn't in the mood to deal with this, but at the very least she had the shark's attention. Subtly, she indicated for Agate to step up to bat and take care of the next dragon, which was already poking its head out. Agate gave a reluctant dip of the head then scuttled off, leaving Opal to continue distracting Lazurite. "You can't just hog every pokemon that comes your way. It isn't polite, plus you'll just wear out your teeth faster," Opal tried to reason, not that it'd do much good. Lazurite gave a thought-provoking response, and totally unexpected: she growled.

Not keeping track of time Jinx continued her conversation with her brother, trading details of their day and catching up, and though she tried not to reflect on it, in the back of her mind Jinx couldn't help but to compare their time spent through screens to holding a conversation in-person; the former won out, and by a large margin. Still though, the blue-haired woman enjoyed herself, and before she knew it an hour had already passed. "Well." Kaeden spoke in between a yawn. "I hate to cut things short, J, but I've got to head out. I still need to make time to look over your 'dex, and you should deserve the chance to relax, after the day you've had." Jinx gave a half-nod, her disappointment clear as she checked the time; it really was 9. "Cheer up. We'll talk soon, alright? Until then, keep an eye out for a woman by the name of Valerie, she'll be the one picking up your 'dex. I talked to her right before you called, so she should be arriving soon," he informed. "Your new pokemon will bring it back to you, so look forward to that!"
A few minutes more were spent describing Valerie, and the twins saying their goodbyes, Kaeden, as always, was the first to sign off (because she refused to hang up on him), which left Jinx sitting in the phone booth and staring at a black screen, heat still radiating from it. She allowed herself to linger before, with a sigh, she stood to her feet and shuffled out of the phone booth and headed outside to collect her team. It was getting late, and she wasn't in the mood to start making any moves for the next city or town, wherever that was, so they'd be crashing here for the night. Thankfully, the Pokemon Center had an open door policy for pokemon and trainers.
It was on her way back from collecting her team, who looked as tired as they came, that, out of the corner of her eye, Jinx saw movement, and turned her head accordingly in the object's direction. By a stroke of luck, or just good timing, who else did she see but a woman matching Valerie's exact description, and making her way purposefully to the Pokemon Center. Jinx cut her off, surprising the grunt with her abrupt arrival, but kept their interaction short with she handing off her pokedex, and Valeria tucking it safely away before nodding her head and doing an about-face and began walking back to where she'd arrived. Jinx turned her head, not bothering to check where the woman went off to, then headed inside of the Pokemon Center.
Dinner, as unfortunate as it was, was uneventful, with the only highlight being when Jinx fed Sphene, who had apparently simmered down quite a bit during his time in his ball, spinach leaves and got to watch their instantaneous combustion when they touched his petals; watching something catch on fire so quickly.. it was always fun. After dinner was a shower and bed, and in the morning Jinx returned to the cafeteria to grab a quick breakfast, it was the most important meal of the day after all.
"Are you going to burn this up too?" Jinx inquired of Sphene at the table, holding up the medication Nurse Joy had prescribed him. The Sember stared stoically at Jinx, empty gaze unwavering, before the tips of his petals quivered, almost invitingly; daring Jinx to see for herself. She did just that, a smattering of applause following when the pill, did in fact, catch fire and burn itself out--did medicine still do its job even when engulfed in flames?--but wasn't so distracted that she caught the slight shudder that ran up Sphene's back, causing his entire body to emit a soft rustling sound. "I'm not a fan of medicine either," Jinx empathized.
By the time they'd finished breakfast, and with no sighting on Kaeden's gift or her pokedex, Jinx decided to move on. She'd spent more than enough time in Eterna City, and she was more than eager to leave. Besides, it wasn't as if she wasn't being tracked, her coordinates, down to the exact latitude and longitude, known at all times; it was how that grunt had found her. So, she wasn't concerned about waiting for the pokemon, it'd track her down.
