The booths had a lot of information about the various nutrition habits, tutorials on grooming and pitches about the various types of shampoos and conditioners that were on the market. Du listened to all of them and took some mental notes about what to look for and what should be avoided when it came to what was in the shampoos and conditioners and how best to use them. She was kind of surprised just how much variety there was to all of these shampoos. Now, Du took really good care of her hair, it was something of her baby, so she had a rough idea about what the shampoos were aimed towards, but really, there was so much more information that she just didn’t know about, it was rather interesting to see how much more there was to learn and what she still needed to know about. Du looked down and smiled at Niamh as the Sylveon looked up at her for a moment before wagging her tail. ”Don’t worry Niamh, we’ll figure this out.” Du giggled before kissing the top of her pokemons head.

Dumuzi wandered around the contest hall and looked around at all the various pictures of past contestants and even stood around with the crowd to see some of the older contestants and their favoured pokemon. Isis was right, there were a lot of snobbish people in the Beauty contests, but she had to admit that there was some charm to them as well. They were certainly a charismatic bunch -that was for sure. Du wondered if she would be able to measure up to them in that regard. After a few moments of a little self-doubt, she remembered that she was there to have fun, not make an a** of herself. She would be her usual self and not worry about whether or not people would find her interesting as a person or not, it was all about her pokemon as far as she was concerned. These pokemon looked really well-groomed and plenty fussed over by their owners. It was almost to the point where the owners were starting to look like some of their pokemon…

There was still so much to see and do that Dumuzi wasn’t sure where to go next, she looked around at the various tools and what not for making pokeblocks and how to use them. Honestly, Dumuzi wasn’t all that interested in the pokeblocks, she loved to bake and cook too much for anything like that. With that noted, she kept and eye open for some introductions to Poffins or something like that in order to maybe get some recipes for said treats. Hmm, well, she was sure that if there was anything like that out there, she would find it in this area! After a few more minutes of searching she came across a lovely plump lady who took notice of Dumuzi and helped her find the cookbook that she was hunting for. It was really nice that someone was so willing to help a stranger like that, maybe she was a judge or a contestant herself? It would make sense for the veterans of the craft to help the newbies find their feet so that they could face them too, one day. Dumuzi thanked the woman with a bright smile and continued on with her site seeing while flipping through the book every now and then to see if there was going to be anything else that she was going to need in order to make the poffins.

Du was having a blast and the more she spent time among the people around here the more she was getting psyched up for her own showing. She was a little nervous about how she would do for her first time, and then there was the Contest Leaders that she would have to worry about as well. She was hearing whispers on the wind about how tough those contest leaders were and she was starting to get a little anxious about it. She knew that it was still a ways away from actually facing them, but there was still something clawing at her back about it. Maybe if she could get a chance watch a performance by them and maybe even get a chance to meet them as well that she could ease their worries. After all, she was pretty sure that they weren’t mustache twirling villains who were there to crush your dreams to dust. They were people who took pride in their pokemon and wanted to make sure that you got a damn good run for your money when you got near the top. The competition was supposed to be tough at the top and when you did win against them, it would be all the more rewarding.

Dumuzi decided to go out into the world with the new found knowledge of the shampoos and conditioners to try and find the one that would be right for Niamh and what would bring out the proper shine of her coat without reducing the softness of the texture. Dumuzi loved how soft her favorite pokemon was, she would hate to ruin that with the shampoo for the contests. She was sure that Niamh would be a little sore at her if people stopped giving her attention because her coat wasn’t as soft as it used to be. Dumuzi went to the closest pokemon center and started to see if they had any of the shampoo and conditioner that she was looking for, or if she would have to go into the city to find it. She guessed the later, but seeing as this was a Contest based region she assumed that they would have at least something. Whether or not she would find them in stock might be a different story though. If she couldn’t find anything here then she could always go to Veilstone City where she was sure they would have something there that she could get.

Hmm…. Well, it was clear that Dumuzi wasn’t going to find anything in this particular location that would satisfy her Sylveons specific coat needs. Oh well, she supposed that she was really taking shots in the dark here. She kind of figured that a higher end shampoo and conditioner set would probably be far more available in the cities rather than here. So far what she was coming across was only generic stuff that probably won’t give her anything of an edge in her contests. Well, she could still look around and maybe luck out in a few places. She didn’t count on it, but it was still something to aim for. Du shrugged it off and went to investigate another place to see if she could maybe find something else that might help her out with her contests.

Du gave a bit of a defeated sigh, but still kept a smile on her face. She couldn’t find any shampoos around here that was going to be of any use to her, but she supposed that it was better to have looked and not found anything than to have not looked and missed something. Du did get some information about where some of these shampoos and conditioners were in the larger cities and even got a list of places where people went and loved their products. Du had a feeling that she may have to experiment a little bit in order to find the right shampoos and conditioners that were right for her pokemon. At least she had a lot better knowledge that she did before to go and look for these brand name items. Some were fully organic and some weren’t, some were all natural than others. It was actually quiet daunting to think about for someone was new to this as she was. But the best way to learn was to try things out, maybe they would be able to give her some samplers or something? Then again, maybe going more of the ‘travel sized’ route would be a lot cheaper and less costly. It may only be a one use item thing, but that was all she was really going to need it for, right? Sure she would have multiple contests, but saving money was going to be a bit of a priority for her until her first win. The savvy shopper was a richer shopper.

Something caught Dumuzi’s eye and she leaned in for a closer look. Oh! They were seals! Dumuzi’s eyes lit up a little bit and she looked over the selection that they offered, there were demonstrations for the various types of seals and what they would look like when they came out of the pokeball. Dumuzi made some mental notes about which seal would go with which pokemon and their respective contests. Dumuzi thought about what would go best with Niamh and her entrance, being in the beauty contest, she was going to have to pick something that was beautiful as well. Obviously the explosion seal was out of the question but the glow, mist or Sparkle seals would probably be pretty good for Niamh. A glow would look really mysterious and cool, and there wouldn’t be anything that said she couldn’t switch it up every now and again. After some consideration, Du made her selection and went to the counter to pay. She figured this one would be a good place to start and she had an idea for Niamh to use them to her advantage as well.

Getting the books took a little pushing and shoving to get through some crowds and hop in line, but Mel and Lucy were able to quickly rejoin the boys and start back up the route. The chimchar climbed onto Mel's other shoulder, and both peered down at the books as they started walking towards Celestic Town. "You know this place also connects to Solaceon," Brian commented, "Celestic Town, that is.""Mm..." Mel was paying attention. Kind of. "There are some ruins there, you know..." he continued, looking at her out of the corner of his eye. "That's nice, Brian, but honestly I really need to get home soon," she replied, flipping through the pages. She smiled a little as she heard Brian sigh, and saw him slump his shoulders.

Snorting, and trying quickly to muffle it, Mel turned away, trying not to laugh. Brian blinked. "What? It's just something I heard," he persisted. Mel shook her head a bit, waving a hand. "Not that. You just sounded more... enthusiastic than I would have thought. Maybe you should try studying archeology, if you're so interested," she suggested, giving an encouraging motion as she did. Brian scrunched up his face a bit. "Studying isn't really my thing..." he muttered. Mel rolled her eyes, smirking in amusement as she lifted her book, not quite noticing as they began leaving Celestic Town. "So I noticed..." she murmured.

► "There is it." Verka announced as they crested the hill that put them high up on the cliff side over looking the thickly forested valley where the small city set perfectly in the middle. This town was almost totally hidden from the rest of the world and Yukie suspected Verka had wanted to come here now for more then just sight seeing. The hike had taken nearly three days and one of those had been spend mostly riding in the back of a truck until the paved road turned to dirt and their route supported from the drivers. Yukie entertained the idea of stealing the truck but Verka has refused to let her sighting the unwanted attention it would bring. "Finally ill be able to get a ******** bath." Yukie complained looking out at the scenery.
Verka wasn't bothered as much as Yukie was by the lack of hygiene between them in the moment. Yukie felt like crawling out of her own skin. "Oh stop your bitching." Verka said shacking his head slightly. He wasn't thrilled with Yukie's attitude the last few hours which had only been growing steadily more negative. Yukie huffed kicking a stone off the edge before she began looking for a way down the cliff and into the valley below. "How do we even get from here to there ?" She asked after seeing no direct way down. Yukie become visibly agitated and aggressive. "That way." Verka said pointing to what looked like the cliff face had crumbled off in a landslide. He stepped up behind Yukie to wrap his other arm around her neck in a sort of hug like embrace. "There's a path hidden over there."
Yukie was tempted to toss Verka over the edge upon first physical contact but the desire faded away after a second and she simply let him comfort and calm her. The agitation didn't relent much but it was easier to deal with mentally now. The anger that had so quickly come to a near boil was of the same effect. Calmed but not removed. "If i don't get a bath tonight im going to skin you alive for making me walk all this way." She threatened reaching up with both hands to hold onto Verka's arm before pulling away. Verka didn't resist as she broke free. "What did i just say about the bitching." Yukie answered with an obscene gesture.
Starting in the direction of the crumbled cliff face Yukie tried not to focus on the possibility they might not make it before dark but rather how enjoyable a hot bath would be and the relief of getting out of her dirty clothes. The hidden path was around a mile away so it wasn't to surprising to encounter a wild pokemon on the way. An oddly colored Bulbasuar, its seed like a pumpkin. "Go, Uft !" Yukie cried unleashing the Spearow. "Air Cutter !" He commanded. It was a newer move taught along the way to release its peck attack. The bird pokemon erupted into life with a flash of white light unleashing a devastating volley of wind attacks. One hit and the grass type was knock out. Yukie saw the value in having such a pokemon with such an odd appearance and made an attempt to capture the thing to boot.

► "Feel better Grumpy?" Verka asked having watched the encounter from the sidelines. Yukie had to admit she did feel better getting her aggression out vicariously through her Pokemon. It was better than the alternative for sure. At that moment Uft, the male spearow, fluttered up to land on Yukie's shoulder. The Pokeball containing the newly captured Bulbasaur held secretly in its talons. Yukie held a hand up and the bird Pokemon released the orb. "You do know I'm not answering that right?" Yukie said with a coy smile rubbing a smudge of dirt off the white half of the orb on her pants. "Just be glad I like you." Yukie said tossing the ball to Verka who laughed passively catching the ball and stuffing it into his bag. "Come one then" Verka said patting Yukie's shoulder before taking the lead forcing her to follow his lead again.
Following the path lead them to a stairway carved right into the collapsed cliff face itself. Yukie for a moment marveled at the sight before them. The stairway was lined with medium sized boulders and carved into each was a different Pokemon with every third one in line doubling as a light post. The wide stone steps were polished smooth but everything else was left rough and jagged. The sun was setting which gave the area a near overwhelming appeal. Below, the trail picked back up for about a mile or so until it reached the city itself. "Are you coming or going to start painting a portrait ?" Yukie snapped back to reality having lost herself for a moment in the view. "Ye ~ yeah I'm coming." She stuttered rushing to catch back up. "Impressive huh." Yukie didn't respond beyond to nod.
"Ahhhhh, this is much better." Yukie gasped dipping into the steaming hot spring water. It took a little convincing but ultimately she was able to reserve a private bath for herself. The wait was well worth the indulgence Yukie thought watching the steam roll off her skin and into the cold night air. Autumn was in full swing. That or the increase in altitude made it colder here. Yukie wasn't sure nor honestly cared which was the truth. Verka had escape Yukie's promised beating in paying for all this. A message first then this. Yukie thought to keep a careful eye on him. He was after something surely, no one did this sort of stuff without an ulterior motive. Yukie watched apathetically as Bris, her prized Wooper swam the length of the hot spring blissfully.
"Satisfied ?" Verka asked as Yukie returned to the room at the Pokemon center. Yukie collapsed on the bed, arms spread eagle and hair spread in all directions. Verka was sat on the floor crossed legged brushing Jruz's fur. The Sneasel was quite pleased to be getting the attention. Yukie wasn't as tentative to her Pokemon as Verka was. She wasn't about to tell him he couldn't pamper her Pokemon though. If it kept them happy then what was the harm so long as they obeyed her commands. "Do we really need to leave tomorrow ?" Yukie said answering his question. Iisk, having been on the bed already took up residence on Yukie's chest finding a comfortable spot around her exposed navel.

► Yukie awoke the next morning finding herself face down and practically spread across the bed. Covers were thrown haphazardly about. Most not even remaining on the bed never mind covering herself. The only thing really left securely on the bed was the pillow which even as she shifted to sit upright remained locked under an arm, at least it was before stretching both arms out as far as they could go with a yawn. Rubbing the sleep away Yukie got her bearings after looking around the room for a second or two. It was still dark outside but the sun was started to come up over the horizon. Verka was still knocked out on the couch just where he'd passed out the night before. Jruz was curled into a ball at his feet but Iisk was resting on Yukie's bed by the headboard. Normally Yukie wouldn't give two shits about being quite so as to not wake someone else but Verka was the exception to the rule.
Yukie crept about the room as quietly as possible careful not to wake Verka, Jruz or Iisk as she changed from her pajama's to her freshly laundered clothes then packed her discarded clothes away before finally slipping out the room and into the hall. Yukie wasn't entirely sure why she bothered going through all that extra effort to not wake someone who was probably going to be up in an hour or two anyway but not awaken him at least gave her a little personal time. Slipping down the hall and out the front door Yukie was practically assaulted by the cold morning air. The chill of the autumn night clung to the thin fog drifting through the small town. Everything was wet, maybe it had rained during the night but Yukie doubted as much. More likely it was just the change in temperature.
Yukie's goal in this early morning escape was just that. To escape. Not from Verka but more to be removed for a short while longer the troubles of her past. Every day so far had been a painful reminder that for nearly half a year she'd been under someone else's control. A puppet trapped inside her own body. Yukie hated any loss of personal freedom and never before had something been so all-consuming as to even trick her mind into playing along. The fragmented dream like memory's where a nightmare in of themselves and that was something she had to come to terms with. Perhaps all on her own. Verka might be sympathetic and consoling but that wasn't the same as understanding the fear she felt because of it. Thankfully Yukie was able to find an emotional outlet in Pokemon battles. A black Meowth, similar to Kerf made for an easy enough punching bag and gave Silf a nice boost in exp. The Zubat wasn't far off from evolving so these little battles helped speed that alone.
"Where have you been?" Verka demanded with a slightly raised voice as Yukie entered the room a little over two hours later. He was dressed, packed and pissed. Yukie paused by the door and for a split second considered walking back out and going back to picking on the wild Pokemon to avoid this. She'd been pretty damn close to catching that Machop. Maybe she'd get lucky on round two? Verka suddenly advanced and Yukie instinctively shifted her weight ready to protect herself. "I was worried." Yukie was caught off guard as instead of an attack Verka wrapped her into an embrace held tight to his chest. The moment stretched on for what felt like an eternity until finally Verka let go and stepped back. Yukie was at a loss for words. Was Verka concerned? "I~ I'm a big kid a** hat. I don't need you watching me on the playground." Yukie snapped trying to avoid an emotional moment by sparking an argument instead. Verka wasn't affected by the insult and let the topic go. Yukie to some degree was grateful yet aggravated Verk wasn't falling for the typical mental subterfuge.
After a short breakfast and a little relaxing on Yukie's part. Mostly she just wanted time to think about what had just happened so telling Verka her feet hurt bought her about an hour before Verka insisted they get moving. Offering to carry her piggyback. Yukie refused for a few good reasons. After that, the duo was back on the move. Headed west towards Eterna City which was down the other side of the mountains a fact that great displeased Yukie to discover. "We came up one side just to go down the other side !? We couldn't have gone around the damn thing instead!?" She yelled punching Verka's shoulder in passing. "Ouch." Verka remarked rubbing the spot. "It would have taken to long and you'ed not have gotten a bath for another week so ******** shut it miss prissy pantie !" That duly shut Yukie up the rest of the trip. The bath was worth it, she reminded herself. "I wear boxers!"
