As they walked supposedly deeper into the cave, Riley kept her eyes peeled for anything suspicious, but all she saw was the occasional Geodude lying around. For the most part they wouldn't attack, and the same could be said of the Zubat that lived in the cave. Riley wondered if perhaps Zeke was doing something to repel them.

Since he wasn't holding an egg anymore, Riley gave Mochi a Charcoal to hold. It seemed just in time, as they were approached by an angry Bronzor. "Try a fire blast, Mochi." Strangely, the gout of flames didn't do nearly as much as Riley expected. She pulled out her pokedex and groaned when she saw its ability. Heat Proof. "Guess I'd better switch to someone else..." Ground, dark or ghost would do the trick. With a pang Riley realized she'd taken Bite from Zeke for Return. Although Return did do a lot of damage, even when halved.

As if to add insult to injury, the Bronzor used hypnosis on Mochi after the barely effective fire attack. Riley switched out for Niko, and though he took a Psybeam attack his Shadow Force was a two-punch knockout, luckily he was in the shadows when the Future Sight attack it used when he switched in hit, rendering it useless.

The path ahead branched, two openings filled with inky darkness. Zeke paused a moment, sussing out the path of each one, then turned down the right. It was amazing what one could accomplish with pokemon by their side- Mochi provided light, Zeke lead the way, and Seul could sense any trouble coming so they wouldn't get caved in.

While they were stumbling around, Riley encountered a Hiker who appeared to be...hiking....in a cave? Either way, he challenged Riley to battle. She almost felt bad for his three Geodudes and Onix, but Zeke reveled in his position as god among pokemon while he sucked the life out of them. Riley had a feeling that Hiker was going to have nightmares about vampires for a while after that...

Despite her determination, the darkness of the cave was beginning to wear on her. The knowledge that Zeke could lead them straight to the exit was immensely comforting because otherwise Riley would never find her way out.

"Niko, go ahead and use Shadow Force!" Riley commanded, pointing at the Bronzor. He disappeared into the shadows just as a hypnotic pulse rushed past him, then struck with all his might. The Bronzor could barely register his presence long enough to shoot off a psybeam before he disappeared into the shadows again and finished it off.

Riley heard clinking from up ahead and came upon some dude with a flashlight strapped to his head. Apparently he was excavating or looking for rare stones or something. To break up the monotony of the cave Riley challenged him to a battle. His four Geodudes were coordinated if not strong, and Riley's Zeke easily beat them down one after the other.

Another Geodude appeared. Zeke beat it easily enough. Riley could tell he was gaining lots of experience from this, but she didn't want him to get too used to the easy opponents in this cave, so she asked Zeke to avoid other people from now on. It had the added benefit of making it more likely they would find the dragon, too.
