Jane flew up on her broom, she felt like crying. It appeared obvious she had no talent and would never make the team. She got near the goals ready to take another s**t. She had to make it, she just had to. She took the quaffle from Bailey. One last shot, if I don't get it I'll just give up Jane thought to herself as she put on one of her classic fake smiles. She flew around trying to get in the best shot possible, this was it. She concentrated and as she prepared to shot the ball towards the goals. She pleaded in her mind for it to go in or at least pose a bit of a challenge to Bailey. The ball flew from Jane's hands and towards the goals. It spun slightly and Jane closed her eyes not wanting to see herself miss again.

ooc; sorry! i have been super super busy lately with school and voice lesson and stuff. sorry for all my sucky post and forgetting about the dice. sorry!

Bailey prepared for the block as Jane began swooping towards her. Her path seemed somewhat more readable than the others so far, but Bailey was ready for any sudden movements. As the girl swept closer, she watched as the spinning quaffle left the chaser's hand, and she hurried to intercept its path.

"Nice shot, Jane!" Bailey's voice rang clear into the now-quiet pitch. She was rather surprised when she came up several feet short of reaching the quaffle, but she simply shrugged while collecting the ball - which had been moving much faster than she had originally perceived.

Repeatedly tossing it up in the air and catching it, she called,
"Last call for a shot at chaser! Those of you who haven't experienced the beater's bat yet, I would encourage you to pick one up! We'll be wrapping up here in just a moment, so unless anyone else wants to take a crack at scoring on me, I will dub this a final freestyle period while I converse with the other members of the team."

Bailey glanced around to see if any other students were seeking the goal posts as she dove lower to meet with Nevin and Ryn. "Talented bunch out here today. It's going to be a hard decision, but I think I have a good idea at who our new players will be."

Charlotte couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment as the Quaffle was intercepted by Bailey. Still, she'd pulled off the difficult move again, and this time against an extremely experienced and skilled player. She politely thanked Bailey and flew down to the chests to retrieve the beater's bat once more. Once she had it, she flew up to where Devin was hovering. At first, she began to concentrate on the bludgers that were zooming this way and that, but her attention was sidetracked when she saw Bailey draw the other returning players into a huddle. Nervousness set in again, and her heart began to pound. "I guess this is it," she said to Devin. The conversation taking place below would determine whether they would make the team and what position they got. Not only was Charlotte praying she'd make the team, but she was also desperately hoping that Devin would too. Over the course of the try-outs, she'd grown to respect him and like him quite a bit. She hoped he'd make the team with her so they could hang out some more and advise each other on Quidditch.

"Don't worry, I think that you are on the team, but it may not be for what you think," he said, reffering to the time when she saved him. He only caught a glimpse of the save, but it was enough to see what she was doing. He was glad she did that, which was because she probably saved his life. A collision during that corkscrew was extremely dangerous, because if you are thrown off course, you are virtually spinning out of control sideways, frontwards, and backwards. He would've probably fell from his broom, or if he was luck, run into a goalposts, but that was the best case scenario.

After saying this, he grinned and took of towards a bludger, attempting to direct it's path somewhere else. He found it quite funny hitting a bludger because of the growling sounds it makes when hit. He traveled quickly towards the bludger to see if he would hit it. The chances were for him, but he never ruled any situation out. He kept prepared just in case he had to dodge if he were to miss the bludger. A brief picture in his head showed him getting hit with one. He shuttered at that thought and shrugged it off.

Devin connected with the bludger, which totally erased the slight fear out of his head. The bludger was sent due eastward towards pretty much nobody. He sighed, still nervous about the results. He honestly didn't know if he would make it. He had done everything he can to show his repertiore of skills, and now it all fell upon the judgement of the older players. He hoped he impressed some people today. As long as he did that, he succeeded.

Jane could not believe it when she opened her eyes. She had actually made it! She nearly jumped off her broom in excitement and pure shock. She beamed brightly confidence somewhat restored though she still was not sure she would get on the team, especially when Devin and Charlotte began talking. No doubt each thought the other should get on the team, and her she was once again, or perhaps, as always, left alone. Jane should have been used to it by now but it still didn't exactly make her happy.

After a few moments of thought Jane went back down to grab a bat to get in a bit more practice be for try-outs ended. She flew up and almost immediately smacked a bludger though it nearly knocked her off her broom. She smiled as it flew off the other direction, not taking kindly to her bat.

Jane hit a few more then stopped once she heard Bailey talk. She once again filled with worry. She couldn't possibly make it, could she? Jane sighed and flew to the ground. She needed to be somewhere stable for a while. Once she got nearer to the ground she jumped from her broom with an elegant land. Jane sat and waited patiently trying to keep her nerves in check.

Bailey paid close attention to the students as they each tried to get in a few more minutes of fame. Once she felt comfortable with her decision, she began to descend towards the ground and waved for the others to follow.

"Alright guys! That's a wrap. I'd like to thank each and every one of you for coming out today! I'll have the updated roster posted on the bulletin board back in the Hufflepuff common room sometime before the end of the week. Those of you who make it will be getting a notice regarding the dates and times of future practices - hopefully sooner than later." Bailey announced loudly as she dismounted her broom. "Now why don't you all go and get yourself some dinner, it's getting late. Just toss your gear in that bag there and I'll take care of the rest." She urged the younger students to pack up and head back to the castle while she began folding up the table and shoving her equipment back into her bewitched book bag.

This had to have been her best try-outs yet, but more importantly, it would be her first time having to pick and choose who would fill the few empty spots. She was pretty positive who the beater and chaser positions would go to, but she still had to talk to Lenny to make sure he would be playing again this year. If not, that would be one more decision for her to make.

As Bailey ended the practice, Charlotte felt her anxiety come to a peak. She couldn't wait to find out who'd made the team. Still, she thought adoringly of the great hall as Bailey mentioned food, her stomach beginning to rumble. It had been a long practice, and she was a bit tired, but the first thing on her mind was dinner. She slowly glided towards the ground, sighing as her feet made contact. Though she loved flying dearly, it was always nice to be back on two feet. She dropped her bat in the bag as told, and tucked her broom under her arm. "Thanks, Bailey. Hope to see you again soon," Charlotte waved goodbye to the seventh-year. Turning to Devin, she gave him a small farewell smile. She then began to head back towards the castle, towards the food. I hope Jess is there, she thought, eager to divulge every detail of the trial to her best friend.

Devin had helped clean up, bringing all the equipment to the box. He put the bludger bay back into the equipment box. He shot a smile to Charlotte, who had an anxious look upon her face. He waved to her and then turned back around. He was helping put everything away. He even chased down a bludger and caught it in a bag. He looked at Starfire.

"You did me well today Star. Even if I do not make it, I know that I went out with honors," he said, talking to his broom. He honestly thought the broom could hear him. It always done better when he talked to it before riding. So he talked to it, hoping it always flew as good as possible.

He mounted again and took off travelling to a higher point of the Quidditch Pitch. He could see the view and it was beautiful. He just hovered there, looking into the distance.

"Sunset, the renewal of darkness, but the prelude to life," he said to himself. He was talking about how even though sunset brought darkness. Soon enough, life of morning will be found.

The girl had never been happier. A great big smile graced her face as she slipped outside into the crisp air. Despite her recent incident with post-traumatic stress, Charlotte was back on her feet and was ready to go. Now that she was a chaser, she was eager to begin her ascent from lowly newb to practiced pro. She knew she had quite a ways to go in the wonderful ways of quidditch, as she was only a first year. Still, she couldn't help but feel completely confident as she stepped onto the pitch. She'd passed the test and made the team, not to mention gotten to know her teammates a bit over the course if the try-outs. She was definitely excited to be returning today, which was probably why she was the first to arrive. She glanced around at the empty pitch before swinging her recently polished Firebolt 2 off of her shoulder. For old time's sake, she placed it on the ground and gave the "up" command, just for the fun of it. It wasn't something she normally would have done, but there wasn't anything else to do at the moment. She then mounted the spiffed broom and kicked off the ground, speeding up to take a couple practice laps. She'd made it known to the captain that she flew much better when warmed up, and she was glad she'd been a bit early so that she could do so.

Once in the air and fully accelerated, Charlotte felt the familiar exhilarated joy that always came with flying. The wind whipped at her hair, and even though Kat had spent quite some time arranging it into a decent ponytail, she simply laughed as several locks were blown into her face. The air stung her eyes a bit, and she pulled down a pair of goggles that had been strapped to her head. For several minutes she imply flew around the pitch, strengthening the bond between the broom and herself and dreaming about winning this year's quidditch cup. Hufflepuff was doing quite well lately, and if Charlotte had anything to do with it, it would stay that way. She began glancing at the pitch's entrance, wondering when her captain, Bailey Oliver, would arrive. She'd been Kat's idol since the start of her first year, and she'd become head girl since then. It had only increased Charlotte's admiration of her. She desperately hoped that one day she too would become quidditch captain and a prefect. Head girl was a little beyond her reach, but a girl could dream.

She also couldn't wait for the arrival of Devin Cloud, a good friend she'd recently made. She'd met him at try-outs and he'd come to see her in the hospital wing, and she'd grown to like him very much. One of her favorite memories was taking shots against him. He'd beat her devastatingly, but Kat had come to laugh about the event. Devin was a skilled quidditch player and a good friend. Charlotte, now warmed up, flew over to one of the quidditch stands and hopped off her broom, taking a seat and wrapping her sleeves around her knees to keep warm.

Bailey found it difficult to keep her pace under a run as she closed the distance between her and the quidditch pitch. Next to try-outs, the first practice of the year was always the best - especially considering the three new members she had just assigned to the team. Unfortunately, it being her last year, this would be her last first practice.

That seemed to be a reoccurring habit for her now, ever since the start of the year. Everything she looked at was a last. Her last carriage ride up to the castle. Her last sorting ceremony. Her last start of the year. Her last first practice... No matter how she looked at her days at Hogwarts, she couldn't help but see that they were coming to an end. All for the better perhaps, for she now took advantage of things she would have easily oversaw in the past. She held tight to the little things in life, savored every moment as it really was - her last. At least regarding her life at Hogwarts, of course.

Despite that four letter word that lingered on the tip of her tongue as she entered the pitch, there was still a pep in her step and a growing smile on her face that seemed to reach its peak when she spotted Charlotte already in the air.
"That's a girl, love! You sure know how to get to a captain's heart!" She shouted just loud enough to ensure her words of enthusiasm would make it through the light wind that separated the two Hufflepuffs.

Bailey dropped her book bag to the ground next to her broomstick and tugged out the equipment bag, along with three new, black and yellow practice uniforms. Taking one in her arms, she retrieved her Nimbus 3000 and met Charlotte in the air.
"Hope this fits." She winked after handing the jersey to the young, vibrant girl, knowing it had been bewitched to automatically fit its wearer. With a sudden idea, she zipped back to the ground where she hovered just above her bag and heaved out the heavy brown trunk that held each of the quidditch balls. Unlatching the hook, she snatched up one of the quaffles and shot back into the air. "What do you say?" She asked, a sneering smile playing at the edge of her lips. "Care for a quick scrimage before everyone else arrives? Maybe if you're lucky I'll let you score on me again." She spun the quaffle on the tip of her index finger and let a lengthy laugh out into the open air, waiting for a reply from one of her new chasers.

At the sight of the captain, Charlotte's eyes brightened with excitement and she hopped onto her broom, jumping from the stand to zoom towards her. Bailey was carrying something in hufflepuff colors, and Charlotte nearly fell off her broom. My first ever quidditch jersey! She exclaimed inside her head. She'd waited so long for this moment. Briefly, Kat thought back to when she was five years old, about to attend her first match.

"Where we going, Mama?" She'd asked in her singsong voice. Her mother was making sure she had her coat on tight and her laces were tied.
"To a quidditch game, honey." Was the reply. Those five words had brought Charlotte to her now beloved hobby, and one day career. She hadn't known at the time, however.
"What's kitch?" She'd asked naively.
"Quidditch is the main wizarding sport. There are seven players per team and two teams, and there are three different kinds of ball, the Quaffle, the Bludger, and the Snitch..." Her mother had gone on for nearly an hour, and Kat had been nothing but bored. It wasn't until another two years later that she'd taken interest. Since then, her mother never found her anywhere but on her broomstick, tossing around a muggle's volleyball and gaining several cuts and scrapes.

Charlotte pulled on the jersey and smiled, reaching back to tighten her ponytail, which had loosened itself during her practice laps. By this time, Bailey had returned with a quaffle, and Charlotte began to crave action. It was just that, action, which Bailey offered. A smile forming across Kat's face, she nodded her head. She never said no to a challenge while on a broom. "Absolutely. And don't go easy on me just because I'm new. I'll get a couple shots in, you can bet on it," she spoke competitively, her eyebrow raising. She lined up at the goal posts and held her hands out for the captain to toss her the quaffle.

Devin strode onto the Quidditch Pitch, a smile upon his face, with his broom stick at hand. It was his first practice on the team, and he, a lowly first year, had proved himself by earning a spot of his own. He was quite honestly surprised that they picked him, speaking he was only a first year, but he was not saying it was the wrong decision. It was good to him quite honestly, so he didn't say anything about the subject.

He looked over at the table set up, only to find a box of jersey's sitting atop its wooden surface. He went over and picked a jersey for himself. He didn't know if there were numbers on them, but if they were, he would get his old number, number 15. That was his lucky number and it has helped him through times of need.

He picked out the jersey and put it on. It felt great to finally be in the fabrics, knowing that he had earned it. Its nice, smooth feel really set it apart from the normal robes. He liked the jerseys, the colors really going well together. He sat down on the bench and looked up at the two flying around, actually quite amused. Even though Bailey was a seventh year, she had the playful heart of a first year, always finding something fun to do. This was not questioning her maturity at all, but she was so energetic. This energetic nature is a quite intoxicating attribute. Well, intoxicating meaning that it pulls you to her.
