Her hands closed on air, but Sona was not to be deterred. She reached out again, hoping--
and reached so far off she dove off her broom. She pitched forward into the empty air and reached quickly back for broom instead of the ball, but missed it.
Luckily, instead of wasting her time panicking, she was able to turn mid-air and call out a quick "Accio broom!" A mere moment from the ground, her broom swept in. Sonora was pretty sure she twisted something rolling back onto her broom, but at least it was better than broken bones.

Lillith strolled out onto the pitch, the box floating lazily behind her as she carried the forms in her arms. SHe'd already talked to Benjamin about being her vice captain, so hopefully he was still up to taking the position. Now all she had to do was run tryouts to get a new team. Maybe it was just her, but part of her was kind of sad that Eve didn't get the position for quidditch, but then again, part of her was also glad. Eve wasn't the best at prefect duties, but if there was something that Eve got from their mother, it was her drive to get into the sport to begin with. Putting the box down, she waited, watching the pitch as she placed the forms on top of the box under a paperweight she conjured.

Laurel trailed after Aidene all the way down to the pitch, rolling her eyes and occasionally snickering at the sheer level of volume she was managing. "Are you seriously going to have us lug dishes into the kitchens just so we can wash them while the house elves glare at us?" she muttered, tossing her denim bag to the ground as they reached the pitch. She grabbed a form from Lilith. "What is my people's history, Dene?" Sometimes, she thought, Aidene made about as much sense as Pig Latin. Actually, less. It was probably the constant video game references. She hastily scribbled down her answers on the form before turning it back in.

When Aidene said that it was time for Quidditch tryouts Brook clapped excitedly, threw down her book, grabbed her broom, and ran out the door. Only then realizing that she forgot to put shoes on. Once shoed, she chased after Aidene. Of course, Brook wouldn't have minded washing dishes, it would have meant more time with the kitchen elves and snacks, ideal. When she got to the field she grabbed a tryout form and hastily filled it out, and grinned at Lillith as she handed over her form, "Congrats on being the Captain! It's going to be grand this year. No Jonah, and there's a Sona. This is ideal. Don't tell them I said that." She then took off to stand next to Aidene and stretch. It wasn't that Brook didn't like Jonah, but he was just very distracting, having been her best friends brother.
Brook chuckled at Laurel's question of Aidene's question. "My people's history? It probably involved a lot of food honestly. And Cute girls." She winked at Aidene and grinned, of course in the past Brook had jokingly said she was going to Marry Aidene, but looking at Aidene now... being with Aidene did seem like a great time.

Loke walked out onto the pitch, raising an eyebrow as he observed the people already at tryouts. So far, it looked like nearly the whole of Ravenclaw's third years had converged, and Loke wasn't seeing anyone else except the captain. Maybe he'd get lucky and be the starting seeker this term? It'd be funny, especially when playing against Bethany, who seemed to always get it into her head that he was a troublemaker. He figured it was accurate, but still! It was the principle of the matter! Grabbing a form, he nodded towards his cousin's cousin and set about filling out his form before handing it back in.

Once outside, Sona turned into a nightingale and headed for the pitch. Flight via bird was quite different from flight via broom, but either way Sona loved it. She landed in an inconspicuous spot, left her sidebag with the other stuff, and pulled her broom out of it--courtesy of an undetectable extension charm. Her animagus form was no secret to those around her, but Sona didn’t want to startle anyone or draw too much attention to it. She glanced around and found all the beaters from last year assembled. Speaking of beaters, she missed playing with Jonah. Lillith, Aidene and even Laurel were great beaters, but she missed playing with Jonah-- even before they were dating. But maybe things were fine this way. Jonah in his Quidditch Robes had always been handsome, and now that might be a little distracting.
She joined the team in time to overhear Brook mention...a secret? “Tell who what? she asked, grinning to show she was just playing and didn’t really need to know.
With a nod and friendly ”Let me know if you need anything, okay? You’ll do great!” at Lillith, Sona joined her fellow seeker for stretches.
”Hullo Loke.” After a few moments, she realized who was missing and not coming. “I can’t believe we only get one more year to practice together. It’s going to be odd enough with Nico graduated.”

Benjamin had been shocked to even be asked about being made vice captain. He'd accepted Mostly because this was Lillith he was talking too. She was friends with his cousin Chris and he didn't really want to let the team down. Of course now he was freaking out over the fact that he truly was vice captain and that came with certain responsibilities. His nerves reminded him of his first day of tryouts and he didn't like it. Luckily Jessica was quick to tell him he'd be fine. Chris of course gave his own good luck, you'll do great speech. It hadn't been the greatest of pep talks.
Walking onto the pitch with Jess tailing behind, Benny was as ready as he was going to be. Letting Jess go into the stands, he surveyed who was present. Third and fourth years seemed to be the most prominent. He'd noticed his dormmate Loke was there before him. He wondered who else would show up. If no one did at least they'd have a full team with what they had so far.

Canaan was unsure as to how he should feel about the way his year started out this time around, as things were not shaping up too well. His beloved Connla took ill just before they were take the train back to Hogwarts, and his parents decided it was wiser that his large companion not accompany him this time around, so as not to risk anyone else's animal friend from possibly taking ill. Unfortunately, the problem the larger breeds had were that they had shorter lifespans, and Connla was already six years old, and thus when things happened they did so sooner, and he doubted he would be as fortunate as Lynn had been with her positively ancient pair of brothers.
He'd kinda hoped that perhaps he might be selected as a Prefect, following in the footsteps of Cousins Lynn and Hannah, but this was not to be. He also had hopes he might gain some sort of position of responsibility in other of his activities, and again this did not pan out either. Today, his Quidditch season would begin and, barring the unforeseen, ostensibly end today, aside from practices and meetings. However, he'd been working on his throwing and other skills over the summer, with an eye toward trying for being a Chaser, as he knew realistically there was little chance of him ever playing in a real match otherwise. Cousin Fi had taken him aside and told him he needed to manage his expectations, as she'd had to learn when she was at school. Putting pressure on himself would ultimately do him more harm than good.
Walking out to the pitch, with his broomstick slung casually over his shoulder, he resolved to simply be the happy warrior, and keep his options open. Make the team, and even if he never started a match, be supportive of his friends and his House, and just have fun. Besides, its not like he was counting on going pro after graduation or something. Lynn had told him stuff about 'bread and circuses', that what really mattered were the OWLs at the end of the term, and the rest was gravy.
Looking around, he saw they already had the makings of the team, as several familiar faces were gathered already, including a newly minted Captain and Co-Captain. "Hi, Lillith," he said, greeting the Captain with an easy smile. "Looks like we got a good turnout already."

Lavinia was running shall we say late. Rushing down from for Ravenclaw tower, she made it down to the pitch. Most of the people were present. This was so out of character for her but it was a rough morning. Coming to a stop next to her roommates, she took a moment to catch her breath. "Sorry I took so long." She said grabbing a form and filling it in. Handing it in she was at least grateful she made it before the teams were figured out.
