The Storm's Swell

Start Date: 16th August (8am GMT)
End Date: 1st October (8am GMT)

The "Mad" King has been relatively quiet in recent week's, he has said little to those around him and consulted with none of the Maji within the pride. Save for a small number of visits from concerned siblings and even his mate, Shui has done little to attend to the masses. For the most part life has continued in much the same way that it had before the Kizingo'zaa interrupted the Bahari'mtoto gathering. With the exception of a now severed alliance, very little has changed.

Those pregnant lionesses who were at risk of exiles have been permitted to stay, and with Shui 'shouldering' the burden of their sin, the traditionalists have (for now) allowed them to exist with very little grief.

For want of a better description, life within the Bahari'mtoto has been normal in the last few weeks and save for the rather dramatic light shows above their heads, there have been no indications that anything was entirely amiss.

There have been theories that the King is in hiding of course, few have realised that he has been busy with his own arrangements and this has, for the most part, suited everyone well.

...Or it would have continued to suit everyone had it not been for the disturbing news that came from across their borders. The life that the Bahari'mtoto have grown accustomed to, the tentative peace that has been left in the midst of the fall out with their neighbours is now destined to come to a head.

After all, what King would ever respond well to the fact that the Kizingo'zaa are now trying to poison his pride...?

OOC Breakdown

This Hub will have quite a chunk of information in it to help you navigate the landscape of the Bahari'mtoto during this part of their history. If you've any issues, feel free to give me a shout.

We'll be covering two core events in this Meta Hub, one being the shifting relationship with the Kizingo'zaa and the Bahari'mtoto King's response to their acts of aggression; and the God Meta that has been running in the store for the last months.

I've dropped the ball a bit in regards to the God Meta so I apologise!

    The Kizingo'zaa 'Aggression'
The Kizingo'zaa have, unfortunately, done exactly what the former King warned them not to. Ram had always had concerns in regards to the damage that the Kizingo'zaa would do with their herbs and had warned them to keep it within their own borders. He had always been respectful in regards to this and had accepted that if they chose to imbibe on their lands then this was their prerogative. However, he had also warned them that if they allowed it to enter Bahari'mtoto lands then the reaction would be extremely swift.

In light of recent events and the message that Shui has received from a deserter of the Kizingo'zaa, it now falls to him to respond to the very clear act of aggression from the neighbouring pride.

The response is not war, despite what some might have anticipated.

It's something considerably more defensive and will result in the introduction of two new ranks (predominantly run by NPCs at this stage) and a change to border policies.

      The Kizingo'zaa/Bahari'mtoto Border
    • The Bahari'mtoto King is introducing one of his personal alliances to the Pride. These lions already existed within the Bahari'mtoto on one of the outer most islands, but were all but forgotten.
    • These lions are regarded as "The Architects", but for simplicity's sake they are best known as Trappers and Sappers.
    • These Trappers and Sappers have been invited to construct their traps along the border between the Bahari'mtoto and Kizingo'zaa. They've been given free reign in this region and have been permitted to construct traps specifically designed to maim and kill.
    • It is a deterrent and is designed to prevent the Kizingo'zaa from crossing the border.
    • Similarly, no Bahari'mtoto should be trying to cross this border either.
    • While the normal Guards may be monitoring this border, due to Shui's concerns regarding their loyalty, his own personal guards will also be patrolling the pride.
    • It will be Shui's personal guard who enforce border policies to avoid conflicts of interest.
    • If Nyangumi/Guards wish to reinforce these policies as well they are permitted to do so. Some guards are loyal to Shui, even if he isn't capable of seeing it, his brother being a prime example.

      Treatment of Kizingo'zaa 'Invaders'
    • If a Kizingo'zaa manages to get over the Kizi/Bahari border they will be found by the Royal Guards. The traps are too loud to be ignored and Kizingo'zaa look too distinct to blend in.
    • If the Kizingo'zaa is injured, they will be escorted to the healers for treatment and all items (harmless or otherwise) will be stripped from them and destroyed. This is to prevent any of their herbs getting into the pride.
    • When the injured Kizingo'zaa is well again, the Royal Guard will escort them to the safe rogue border of the pride and cast them out. It will then be the Kizingo'zaa lion's responsibility to find their way home safely.
    • Any Kizingo'zaa that is not injured entering the Kizi/Bahari border will be caught, stripped of any items on them, and removed from the pride via the rogue borders. This is again to ensure none of their herbs enter the pride.

What if my Kizingo'zaa enters through the Rogue Border?
    • They are likely to be spotted by either a guard or Royal Guard.
    • They will be confronted, and if they do not have a good reason for the intrusion, they will be removed.
    • If they have a reason to cross the border, their items will be confiscated but they will not be destroyed.
    • When they have finished their visit, their items will be returned and they will be escorted outside.

What if my Bahari'mtoto wants to visit the Kizingo'zaa?
    • Your Bahari'mtoto lion has freedom of movement and may visit if they wish.
    • The Bahari'mtoto Guards (both Royal and Otherwise) have no power to keep them safe, nor will they guarantee it.
    • The Kizingo'zaa may choose to react in whatever way they would like to your visit, I as Bahari pride owner will not be forcing them to act one way or the other!
    • When your Bahari'mtoto lion returns they will (unfortunately) have to be searched and all suspicious items will be destroyed. Sadly this means that many of the very beautiful flowers in the Kizingo'zaa can't be brought in to the Bahari'mtoto as they're considered suspicious. Please note that the Bahari'mtoto Hlare don't know how the brews are made (this is a secret of the Kizi) which is why all plant life is impacted.

Are any other Pride Lions or Rogue lions affected by this?
    • All new visitors will be questioned, but generally will be allowed to enter.
    • Those with unusual plants or otherwise will be asked to hand them to guards.
    • All confiscated items will always be returned when these visitors choose to leave.

In the Kizingo'zaa Meta it looked like a giant Rift opened between the Bahari'mtoto Border and the Kizingo'zaa border, why do they need traps?
Both sets of lions have the ability to swim, some of them more strongly than others. If you have paid attention to Shui in previous RPs or Metas, he's not one to take chances. On this occasion, while the water may have rushed in to that rift, he's not willing to play games. That border is reinforced with traps to ensure that if someone tries to get through, they're likely to be unsuccessful... The water is just an added bonus.

Are there any other rules in place for visitors?
Beyond the standard "be nice and play nice", visitors can continue to act as normal! The only change within the Bahari'mtoto will be a more notable border presence and stricter rules of entry. Generally speaking there should be no violent behaviour unless your character chooses to be violent, in which case, they will simply be escorted away from the pride.

      How long will this last?
At this time, indefinitely. I don't know how long the Kizingo'zaa meta plot is going to last regarding their decision to try and poison Bahari'mtoto lands, so this set of border controls will remain in place for the foreseeable future. Note that this is directly in place as a result of the Pride Mule Announcements that were made recently.

The War in Heaven (God Meta)
As with the rest of the world, the Bahari'mtoto aren't immune to the peculiar events going on in the heavens. Some of the Bahari'mtoto may choose to read in to this from a superstitious point of view and others may regard it with curiosity. Regardless of how you want your lion to react to the events, there are a couple of unusual events happening in the Bahari'mtoto.

To add a little bit of variety to it though, I've randomised the type of things that the lions might see while RPing in certain regions of the Bahari'mtoto lands.

You're free to roll for these events when RPing in particular parts of the pride lands or you can choose to ignore them. It's entirely up to you!

The light show in the sky does not need to be rolled for to be seen though, this will be a constantly visible feature in the night sky (and to a lesser extent, during the day) for the Bahari'mtoto for the duration of the God Meta.

    The Introduction of New Ranks
There will be two new ranks available in the Bahari'mtoto after a series of meta events. This Hub will introduce both ranks to the Bahari'mtoto and hopefuly, the events will begin to show you what these ranks involve. This should provide some more variety to the Bahari'mtoto lions who may find that life in the Bahari'mtoto is a little bit too pacifist.

      The Trapper
This name is subject to change, but the Trapper will come under the tutelage of the King's newest allies. Rather than learning to construct homes for the Bahari'mtoto citizens, they will learn to construct 'weapons of war' that are specifically designed to protect the Bahari'mtoto.

During the course of their training they will be provided with aid from smaller denizens e.g. Genets, who can provide assistance in traps that require more finesse.

This role is the first of two that has at least one familiar/companion with them at all times.

These individuals are not inherently violent, but they are nimble and creative. Their mindset is less about how something can be made to look pretty and homely, and more to do with how something can be utilized to protect an individual who may be outnumbered or outgunned.

After all, sometimes it's better to run and let a trap do the damage, rather than get yourself killed by a stronger lion with better combative skills.

        Estimated Launch Date: August
Requirements to Join: Direct RP with an existing Trapper.

      The Royal Guard
These Royal Guards are the mainstream 'military' of the Bahari'mtoto and are made up of individuals who answer to the King. Rather than diplomacy, these individuals focus on combat and the defense of the pride. This is in striking difference to the Nyangumi who have always been prided for their softer approach. While the Nyangumi can be more considerate in how they handle those who disagree with them and are no less capable of defending the pride... The Royal Guards are decidedly less tolerant.

Battle hardened and trained by a set of core individuals that are allied to Shui, these individuals swear an oath to their King. This oath is simple of course, they will answer to his orders... But their immediate duties are to ensure the safety of the pride by any means necessary.

This royal is for the combatants in the pride who haven't necessarily 'fit' anywhere else. Those who might be slightly stronger, but lacked the diplomacy of the Nyangumi.

In terms of hierarchy, they are equal to the Nyangumi. Shui has taken great care to ensure both ranks are level in this regard, though their methods may differ considerably.

Only those with fealty to the King are permitted into this rank and they are expected to be ample warriors.

They are rarely seen without a scouting companion and while most favour avians, it isn't unusual to see more unique scouts on occasions.

        Estimated Launch Date: September
Requirements to Join: Applications will open in the joining thread with a specific form. These will be reviewed for eligibility.

If there are any individuals with an immediate interest in these ranks, please send a PM to Epine de Rose with the lion you would like to put forward. I may allow some individuals to join either of these ranks early if it makes IC sense.

New Alliances - The Future Looks Bright!
There are going to be two new Alliances within the Bahari'mtoto with external prides. These will result in a pair of joint metas to celebrate the agreements between each pride.

These Metas will also be an opportunity for members of the Bahari'mtoto to congratulate the Ambassadors who worked so hard to achieve these alliances!

If you have an Ambassador ranked character and you think that they can make an alliance with an external pride, then you are free to pursue this and then report back to Shui.

Note that Shui will not be taking credit for these Alliances because he wants to reward these Ambassadors for the job they've done; he may sign on the dotted line, but it was them who established the relationships and made these connections possible. n_n
    • Sûzat - Ambassador: Moana
    • Nchi'mahadhi - Ambassador: La'Seine

There will be a further Alliance to come, but as these details aren't finalised and neither pride is ready to pursue this alliance, it will be announced at a later date.

RP Prompts/Scenarios

There are only two major events that will have prompts in this Meta Hub, designed to help guide people through the more nuanced aspects of both the Kizingo'zaa/Bahari'mtoto border issue and the War in Heaven God Meta.

The only time you will need to worry about using these Prompts/Scenarios for RP, is if your lion decides to try and cross the more dangerous border or if they want to specifically interact with a 'supernatural' encounter in the Bahari'mtoto lands.

If you're just doing normal RP then you don't need to worry about these. n_n

Kizingo'zaa/Bahari'mtoto Border
This set of prompts should be used exclusively for Kizingo'zaa or Bahari'mtoto lions who want to try crossing the Bahari'mtoto/Kizingo'zaa border. This is the border that Shui has allowed the Trappers/Sappers to make dangerous to cross.

Note that the traps that have been constructed are on the Bahari'mtoto side of the border so please do not imply or try to RP some of these traps existing on Kizingo'zaa land!

How to Play: Roll one 1d10!
    • You rolled a 1-3!
You notice the guards patrolling the border nearby and you're all too aware that they won't be pleased to see you. You think better of attempting to cross the border. Instead, if you have friends, you can call across to them... though this is not ideal. Alternatively, you can make the decision to try and enter through the rogue lands where you'll be searched, but should still be able to come in and see your friends.

    • You rolled a 4-6!
You tried to cross the border and unfortunately you were caught by one of the traps, despite the noise, this also means that you've probably taken some damage... Roll a 1d4!
        • You roll a 1!
You've been maimed, though the injury may not be permanent. Regardless, it's best to turn around and go home so that you can get it looked at.

        • You roll a 2-3!
You've been hurt, quite a bit actually, but you're determined to keep going. If you're Kizingo'zaa that means that the border guards will find you and take you to be healed, but you'll lose your possessions. If you're Bahari'mtoto, you'll be able to reach the Kizingo'zaa but there's no guarantee your injuries will be tended to, that will be up to them.

        • You roll a 4!
That...looks bad, really bad. You're unable to move and it now falls to the Trappers to recover you. Regardless of whether you are Kizingo'zaa or Bahari'mtoto you will be recovered and taken to the healers to receive treatment. It is up to you to decide if these injuries are permanent or temporary.

    • You rolled a 7-9!
You narrowly miss being hit by a trap as the ground gives way underneath you to expose the cruel spikes underneath. The branches are crudely sharpened but nonetheless deadly and wouldn't have been pleasant to land on. That being said, you're now stuck in the middle of the border and can either go back or forward Roll a 1d4!
        • You roll a 1!
You pick your way back very carefully to safety. If you really want to visit the Bahari'mtoto, it's probably smarter to go through the other border.

        • You roll a 2-3!
You decide to continue, but you'll get hurt on the way through. You can decide whether this is a small set of injuries, or a big set of injuries. Regardless, you'll be met by the border guards and taken to a healer if you happen to be Kizingo'zaa.

If you're Bahari'mtoto, then your fate is in the paws of the Kizingo'zaa.

        • You roll a 4!
You decide to continue and get through with only minor injuries and scratches. Unfortunately, as Kizingo'zaa you aren't greeted with joy and while you and your friend might celebrate your arrival it's short lived. No sooner do you arrive, than you're found, your possessions/gifts are destroyed and you are removed by the guards.

If you are Bahari'mtoto then your fate is in the paws of the Kizi!

    • You rolled a 10!
You get across completely unharmed, the thing is, it hasn't come without a price. Your attempts to get across still triggered several of the traps on the border and the noise drew the guards to your location.

If you are Bahari'mtoto the guards will not pursue you across this border into the Kizingo'zaa, but they will be waiting for you to return so that you can have any suspicious items removed from you.

If you are Kizingo'zaa then you are greeted coldly by the awaiting Guards. You do not have the opportunity to speak and unfortunately, your friend on the other side (if there is one), does not have the chance to argue your case. You are stripped of your possessions and immediately escorted to the rogue border to be removed from the pride... But at least you're safe and unharmed despite tempting fate.

The War in Heaven
These rolls are to be used exclusively for RPs where you would like to use the topic of War in Heaven in the Bahari'mtoto. These rolls only need to be done if you specifically want to react to something 'supernatural' happening in the Bahari'mtoto.

If you would just like to RP general conversation surrounding the unusual events then you don't need to roll.

Note that in regards to the War in Heaven meta, I won't be dictating if any injuries happen in the Bahari'mtoto lands. This set of rolls is really just here to dictate what your lion has the chance to encounter/see during their RPs!

How to Play: Roll one 1d10!
    • You rolled a 1-3!
Every now and then you seem to hear unusual noises, almost like voices. While you can't figure out who or what they're coming from, they definitely don't seem to be normal... You may have heard of this before, perhaps from passing travelers who made reference to the Lake of Sighs... Is this the type of thing they meant?

    • You rolled a 4-6!
Strange shadows have been seen in the forest, at first you thought these were the same beasts from before, but those around you seem unaffected. The local wildlife doesn't seem to see or detect anything of concern and even those lions nearby don't seem to have seen it...

    • You rolled a 7-9!
As you stare out towards the ocean you see strange lights, they look like orbs but when you look away they're gone. Periodic glances towards the shore cause them to show up again and you aren't quite sure if they're real or if they're some sort of reflection on in the water...

    • You rolled a 10!
You find some sort of...structure? You have no idea what it is but it's unlike anything you've ever seen before and you're fairly certain this wasn't there the last time you were in this vicinity either. You've no idea what it is, all you know is that it's normal and there's something somewhat discomfiting about it...

Clarification of Closing Date:
The closing date is in place as a reminder for me. This date is the absolute latest that I should be reviewing any updates or changes to the pride. Depending on how the War in Heaven continues to progress and so on, it may be necessary to update the Hub to reflect the on-going changes in the shop's IC universe!

This date will also provide a chance for me to review the current border restrictions for those who are particularly concerned by them. I know that there will be some players who are uncomfortable or unhappy about being separated from relatives/friends in the Kizingo'zaa and it's therefore necessary to review this regularly. Please note that if there's any reason to change these restrictions before then, then it will be done!

Next formal ORP metas are likely to be one or both of the formed alliances, so please look forward to those!

Timeline of Updates
Last Update: 30-Aug-2018

  • It seems that something or someone sought to intervene before the Kizingo'zaa King could do any significant damage. A giant rift has opened along the Kizingo'zaa borders and cut through their lands, separating the Bahari'mtoto from them.

  • Despite the Rift, Shui is unwilling to trust his neighbours and has kept the border trapped as an added security measure.

  • It seems that despite the installation of these traps, two brave souls have tried to cross the border. This went as one might expect with injuries sustained and both collected for treatment!

  • Despite the Kizingo'zaa leadership's questionable decisions, it seems that there are a number of Kizingo'zaa that disagree with the actions of their young King. How they feel about the Bahari'mtoto's King at this time is irrelevant as their main concern is trying to save their own home.

  • The wayward Kizingo'zaa have developed a new sense of purpose, or at the very least, the purpose they might have had long ago has returned. They know that action must be taken, but it's unlikely that they'll bestow too much information on the Bahari'mtoto as these are Kizingo'zaa affairs.

  • While they recover, these visitors have been given tentative leave to explore the Bahari'mtoto. They are currently without their possessions (with one throwing her's away willingly, given she had wings, she would collect these again later) and therefore they are not regarded as a security risk. At this time, the young King is aware of their presence but has little interest in speaking with them, he trusts his guards to keep them in check.

  • To be continued..!
