Profile: Kwelin is a highly intelligent and skeptical troll. He is good at learning things and works to soak up as much information as possible to better his understanding of the world around him. He aims to earn as much money as he can in order to support his lusus's lifestyle and to stock up in case of an emergency. As a blueblood, Kwelin does get a nice sum of beetles from the government but his lusus tends to spend money as if they were living the life of a purpleblood or a seadwelller, to Kwelin's dismay. Kwelin is not 'mature' for his age but he seems to think he is. In actuality, a better description would be that he presents himself as more logical than emotional and tries to make decisions based on facts rather than feelings. This does not always pay off for him but so far he hasn't died.
The hemospectrum has been fed to him from a young age and he follows it for the most part. As a concept, he sees no reason to question it but he knows that in reality, life is not so neat and tidy. There will always be deviants and rebels so it is best to cross examine someone's actions and words to uncover their beliefs rather than simply assume that they also follow the system. He feels a duty to protect those beneath him from being victimized by the hemospectrum as it is the obligation of a highblood to not abuse their power. In the case of abusive or bullying highbloods, Kwelin sees it as a failure on the other troll's part rather than a failure of the system. And it is his goal to learn the laws and rules of Alternia to give everyone their basic rights to ensure that the hemospectrum succeeds. Those that do not follow the hemospectrum are misguided and in need of protection and guidance.
He is not a perfect justice-driven troll however. Kwelin is greedy and selfish and does not always realize that he can be a hypocrite or a*****e like everyone else. He thinks that he is incredibly rational (for the most part, he tries to be) but he does get jealous, angry or upset like everyone else. He tries to frame his feelings as logic in order to get his way. If this doesn't work, he is not above lying to get what he wants. He "knows what is best" and will not be persuaded otherwise unless presented with hard evidence.
There are moments of joy and happiness within Kwelin but they rarely bubble to the surface where others might see them. Kwelin wants to make friends but his highly critical and snobbish nature make it difficult to be friendly to others. Despite his vanity, there are good intentions lurking underneath. He just needs time and some guidance to be able to express how much he cares in a more positive way and maybe let go of the reins someday. Despite being cold and prickly at first glance, Kwelin helps anyone who asks him for anything because it is his duty to aid the rest of Alternia and because he wants to be around people and just doesn't know how to make that happen.
He does have a few hobbies when he's not studying or scolding people. Kwelin enjoys a game of chess and regularly looks for skilled opponents. He also likes collecting high quality pens and rare stamps that are kept in a neatly organized binder. People who disrespect his collections are to be heavily scolded and possibly sued for emotional damages. Kwelin also spends a lot of time cleaning his apartment and finds cleaning to be relaxing.
Strengths:
reliable - Kwelin works hard at everything he does in order to master any skill he determines he needs. As a result, he is incredibly good at a select couple of talents and other trolls can depend on him to do what he says he will. If he owes a favor to someone, he will make good on his word in order to foster good relationships and survive bad ones. Others can count on him and he's willing to put in his legwork to get a good reputation even if that means putting up with some crummy requests. He'd rather be used than attacked.
controlling- In order to get what he wants, Kwelin micromanages every situation towards the best outcome for him (or to benefit those on his good side and harm others that he doesn't like). Typically he is trying to spin whatever he's requesting to sound like 'the most logical solution'. Kwelin relies on the assumption that other trolls are not as well versed in laws as he is to dispute what he says. Being overly controlling might put some people off but it's worth it if he can get his way in the end and that's what matters the most to Kwelin. This control stems from his self enforced duty to either help lowbloods or please highbloods and he wants to run the scene in order to manipulate the outcome.
Flaws:
stubborn - Sometimes you need to know when to give up. If only Kwelin understood this. He can fight on until the bitter end of something and it's not always worth it. He overexerts himself in his studying and investigating constantly which leads to poor overall health. Kwelin also goes too far in arguments and debates out of an obsessive need to find the truth and can damage relationships by prioritizing logic over emotions.
harsh - He has good intentions to help the trolls he cares about but his personality is very self-centered in that he believes he knows what is best. Because of this, he tries to dominate and control things to the point of coming across very rude and sometimes talks down to others. This can come across as cold and mean-spirited and strains his relationships with gentler sensitive trolls. Kwelin struggles with this aspect of himself and wishes he weren't so hard on others as he does want to make friends but it's just so hard.
Weapon: fancy letter opener, used like a dagger essentially
Appearance: link. He wears a fancy one piece made to look like a suit over a nice dress shirt and tie. His suit is in his navy blood color but everything else is black and white basically. The shoes are just nice black dress shoes. Wears glasses. His horns look like ink pen tips and stick out of the side of his head (not the top).
Home: Kwelin lives in New Hemisect City in a nice apartment downtown in the middle of all the action. It is very clean and usually looks as if trolls don't actually live there. Cleanliness is a big deal for Kwelin and he keeps the place spotless. It has a minimalist design but the few things he does have are very expensive and high quality (mostly nice kitchen appliances and a handsome sturdy desk). There is a room for his lusus that is noticeably different from the rest of the hive as it is covered in gaudy flashy belongings and furniture. Most of the money has been poured into this room and Kwelin seems to enjoy the cheerful and excitable reactions that his lusus gives when he buys him stuff. It might be kind of sad to have to buy love but for a socially awkward guy like Kwelin, it's more successful than using his sour personality.
Kwelin is not home very often, instead studying law and politics at the library most of the time. You could say it's like a second home away from home for him. He'd like to open up an office but needs to grow a bit first and get some certification.
Lusus: A small white weasel that goes by the name Pawpa. He is a sneaky crafty lusus that enjoys teaching his child how to uncover the truth of something and simultaneously cover it back up again. In order to cheat, you have to fully understand what is actually going on and so he encourages Kwelin to be curious and investigative for the sole purpose of being able to fully control any situation he's in because he knows all the facts. Kwelin has seen Pawpa get away with a lot of s**t and is starting to wonder if his lusus will get out of control and get them in trouble. He's seen trolls get arrested for committing too many crimes and doesn't want to end up like that. So he's taken an interest in laws in order to understand what they need to do to avoid getting locked up.
Pawpa is a lusus with expensive tastes. Anything gaudy shiny or flashy, he's gotta have. Any new hobby, he's got to have all the tools. Any new show he's interested in, he needs all the episodes on DVD. Pawpa is incredibly impulsive and begs and whines to Kwelin to get him all the lovely things in the world. Kwelin goes along with these requests because it makes Pawpa happy and seems to make Pawpa love him. Kwelin struggles to make friends for affection and companionship so he complies with anything Pawpa wants so at least his lusus will stick around.
Due to his bloodcolor and Pawpa's "findings", Kwelin has lived a comfortable life getting basically anything he might want. He is grateful for the care his lusus shows him but sometimes wonders if he's being trained to carry on Pawpa's legacy in order to support Pawpa down the line rather than because his lusus cares deeply for him.
Pawpa is very fast and can fit in small places easily. He will manipulate the environment around Kwelin to keep enemies from attacking the boy or will wrap his body across someone's face to obscure their vision so his child can escape. This lusus is no stranger to fights but does try to avoid them because he'd rather be looking for a new shiny toy than throwing down with every troll in their way. The hemospectrum is useful and something to be exploited because of the benefits it grants Kwelin as a highblood so he keeps feeding the boy propaganda supporting it.
