    the otherworld.
The otherworld, known as other ashdown, is a perfect copy of Ashdown layered over the real city like a snug pair of gloves. It's always raining, always misty, and seasons seem to run counter to what you'd expect from Ashdown. If the real world is in the throes of summer, the otherworld is in the chilliest depths of winter. (It never snows in other ashdown.) Weirder, the world is completely devoid of life, as far as anyone knows. There are shadows at the corner of your eyes, though, and a strange feeling of a bigger storm brewing.

There's common graffiti in the world of other ashdown, though no one will own up to putting it there. A strange crest can be seen in many degrees of simplification upon the walls and sidewalks of the other ashdown.

Portals into other ashdown take many forms: doors are a common one, as are stairs. However, the most common is barely even noticeable at all. Other ashdown often blends similarly into its more vibrant twin, leading people to stop suddenly and realize they're not where they're meant to be.

    heliodora's demesne.

There is a place within the forest where the forgotten one rests. This is her demesne, her place, and she is attended by her handmaiden.

No weapons are allowed, no ill intent welcome, and should you come here with either of those things may find yourself never seeing this place or worse.

You will hear the stream first as you search the forest, the trickling of water, and then you shall find the grove of mangroves out of season and out of place. There sits Our Heliodora, a spring of water at her foot and ice that grows as part of her.

    the library.

From the outside it looks like it would be the same library that you visit in Ashdown. That feeling fades the moment you touch the handle to try and open the door. The library is not open to just anyone, the handle not giving until it's the right time.

You don't know when that is but the library does.

        It always knows.

The inside of the library is unlike the rest of other ashdown, you might even think it part of some ancient abandoned fairytale castle. Blue skies and sunlight flicker through the broken parts of the roof and the crumbling walls have shelf upon shelf of books in varying stages of disrepair that could offer you the information you seek. If you can find your way. Navigation of the library is tricky past the open entry area. Doors do not always lead you to the same place twice and other times the way through a room isn't even a door.

For now the doors are not opened to you, held shut by some force but perhaps if you visit with a purpose ...

    rider-waite college campus.

There is an empty overgrown field, as if the college had never been there in the first place. If you try to approach something keeps you out. A field, a barrier, a force field ... whatever it is, it's unsettling that where Rider-Waite campus should be is an empty abandoned field.

        You cannot get to it.

You can only look at it.

Sometimes as you turn away you it seems like there's something at the edge of your vision. When you turn to look it's still just the field.

        It's only a little creepy.

    ashdown central high school.

Where once Ashdown Central High stood there is nothing but a long destroyed building, rubble and debris strewn everywhere.

On one of the largest pieces of rubble you can just barely make out a building name. It's faded with age but the longer you stare at it, the longer you try and read it, it starts to look as if that lettering is not quite right. Perhaps that it is even written in a bright, vivid red ...

Nothing makes sense here. Some pieces of the rubble looking ancient, other pieces looking as if they are from a brand new building. The moment you try to approach you'll find yourself forced back with a sickening feeling in the pit of your stomach facing away from the ruined building.

This place is not for you.

        Not yet.

    the garden.

No path in town will take you to the Garden, only the scent on the wind leading you. It is different for each person and no one can say the scent is the same, but it is how they find themselves within its embrace. A tall stone wall encloses it; a vine covered wrought iron gate will swing open at the slightest push.

If you follow the pebbled path of stone and soft ground, you will find yourself getting lost in the scenery. There are colors and hues that are not found any other place than here from the plants and the flowers and the trees that call this place home.

Should you wander long enough you may hear the whispers of the garden. Lovers walked here once, they say, cradled in our embrace ...

    house of mirrors.

There are no doors that leads you to this place. There are no windows that will open to let in even a breeze. Should you ever find yourself here you will only find room after room of mirrors. Your reflection is your only company here.

Those things you do not wish to hear, those things you wish to forget, those things you may not wish to acknowledge.

Here everything is laid to bare.

    the hospital.

        Nature retreats.

The building that was in disrepair and falling apart seems to be healing itself and becoming whole once more. One can venture into the other ashdown version of the hospital to find that it is nothing like it’s counterpart. Mossy and cavernous rooms are interspersed with hospital rooms that look as if they come from different eras of time. There is an overwhelming feeling of life, of living, and no one leaves without feeling as if they've been boosted just a little.

Small wispy spiders make this place home, webbing visible from every nook and cranny. You are mostly ignored by them, though they mean you no harm.

Within the deepest parts you will find a hole. Should you be able to make your way down there is a system of tunnels that lead to cavern covered in plants, webbing, and crystals …

If the path is opened to you.

    ashdown police department.

The doors open and it looks right. There is the front desk but there is no one there. A phone sits behind it (and sometimes it rings but there is never a voice there; pray there is not a voice there) and abandoned files are scattered.

Where the desks are, where the officers work, is where it starts to be noticed. That something is off. This place has been abandoned by both time and people. Paperwork is scattered, desks are in disarray, and nothing looks like it really matches at all.

It is not so bad, not really. Just eerie for anyone who has known this place in Ashdown.

At least until one tries to go to the basement. The doors are chained shut; there is no access. Touching the door leads to an uneasy feeling as if something is staring you down. Darkness seeping out from underneath the door, sometimes the shadows flickering like there is fire behind it.

You don't know what is behind the door but whatever it is ...

        You are not welcome.
