It was Punkie's turn to skip ahead, and so skip she did. She hummed various children's songs, complete with a beautiful sprinkling of holy wordy on top. She sang things like "row row row the goddaned boat!" "marry had a ******** lamb" and various others. They should have re-written the songs with the correct words, but well, maybe Punkie would go back and do that. Make it a wiggler project.

Sinter glanced over, or around, Tamiya's shoulder to catch a glimpse of whatever was sparkling in her hand. "Huh..." It was always unsettling to find reminders that the daywalkers aboard the ships were once people. However, Sinter was becoming rather numb to the feeling of being unsettled. He wondered briefly whether or not this was a good thing.

"Hm?" Sinter looked beyond Tamiya, distracting himself. "It appears this block goes even further back. There's an adjacent room."

Frossa finds Photon Sheild Technology!
barrier technology lost to the sweeps. +5 hp to all party members. Shields cannot be healed back once lost, and are depleted before 'regular' hp.


"Hey, what do you think these things do?" Frossa turned over several disks she had found in her hands, blowing them off. She coughed a little amidst the puff of dust. "To activate sheild..." she read outloud. "Oh!"

She hit a button on one of the discs. It let out a small beep, then cloaked her in a filmly blue light. "Ooooooooh! It still works!" Frossa held her arms out, spinning as she admired herself. "Sparkly!
"Take these, everyone!" Frossa handed out the remaining discs, eager to show the others how to activate them. "It looks so cool~!" Many camera shots of each troll were taken.

Another open room! It was fortuitous that the group could have some respite before continuing on this wild adventure. Tamiya followed closely, still feeling rather creeped out by her suspicions despite being equipped with two darling bandaids.

"Mm. What did you find?" Tamiya mused. She looked over Frossa's treasures and gasped. "Miracles!!" Immediately she went to equip herself, feeling a bit fuzzy as the shield took effect. "Excellent work."

Feeling more confident now, the clown stepped away into the hall. "Mm. Another door down that way. Are we all ready for our next battle?"

The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!

If this is your fourth mini-boss fight, you have reached one of the steering systems! Roll 1d4 in the spoiler below:

1 - The other teams appear to have been successful in their endeavors. There's enough power available for you to reengage the system. The entire room illuminates and roars with life. It's perhaps dangerous to hang around in here too long, but in the meantime the amount of energy in the air makes you feel powerful.
2 - The tendrils of the ship's wiring look like a crime scene, or perhaps a particularly gory nest. Headquarters gives you harried instructions to shut down and isolate the area before the whole ship goes up in flames.
3 - An undead helmsman is still tethered to the center console. They don't have the ability to provide power, but their presence is preventing the back-up systems from triggering. You remove the zombie and the system reengages successfully.
4 - The room is dark and cold, but with instructions from headquarters and the efforts of the teams on the other decks, the system has enough power to reboot itself. The ship begins to thrum with life. It makes your horns tingle and your hair stand on end.
Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

Punkie braced for the blow. There was always a counterattack after the initial attack of her own. Its like the boss has some gross extra arm or something. But, it didnt come. Punkie looked up in surprise, a happy grin on her face. "A gift from the Messiahs!" She hollered. "A miracle from the dark depths of the ******** great carnival!" She lowered her body into an attack stance, ready for the next round. "A prize from the goddamned dart game."

The figure that emerged from the room was a frightful sight; a combat ghoul, with blades sticking in terrifying directions. The sound that emerged from this particular daywalker put Tamiya's hairs on end.

"Punkie, be careful!" Tamiya commanded. She watched as the protege burst through the lines, her shield immediately going down. Soon after, Tamiya was hit by the blades of the abomination. She sailed backwards, the blades piercing through her shield and slashing her across the chest.

"Ghhhk..."

Her fury couldn't be stopped. Hurt but not put down, Tamiya resurged. She held her injured arms away from the fray, still seriously damaged from the foray with the writhing masses. All the same, with no risk there was no reward. A flurry of strikes landed on each blade, and finally landed upon the skull of the abomination.

A figure lurched foreward from the shadows. Another mutated daywalker; but this time, it was just one. The blades were intimidating, and Frossa found herself thankful for the umpteenth time that her weapon was long ranged.

Punkie advanced without command from either herself or Tamiya. Frossa clicked her tongue in annoyance. She lowered the camera, once again flipping open the tripod, and advanced on the battle herself. She skittered behind Punkie, rebounding a hit from one of the abomination's many blades with a grunt, and called over to the orangeblood.

"It's lovely that you're so eager to bathe in blood for the glory of Alternia, but I must insist you match our pace! It's my job to keep your organs inside you, and that requires cooperation."

After lecturing Punkie, Frossa returned her full attention to the abomination before her. Dropping into an attack stance, she circled the creature slowly, swinging the ball of her flail back and forth like a pendulum.

She waited and kept her peripherals locked on the daywalker's limbs, sidestepping around a few lurching swipes of it's blades. Her curls bounced. When the abomination tilted backwards to recollect their momentum after a particularily lopsided swing, Frossa struck- lashing her flail out and around the abomination's ankles, sending it toppling over. It landed, a flurry of shrieks and blades.

"Now's your time to get in there~!" She called out, punching the air with her free hand.

Well it wasn't undulating. Sinter had no idea what caused this particular daywalker to end up this way. It was as though its skeleton had mutated beyond the confines of its skin. The creature wailed as though it could feel every piercing. Sinter winced at the noise alone. He wanted to cry too.

Tamiya and Punkie rushed into battle. Sinter followed suit, more from concern for them than a sound tactical decision. The blades carved through Punkie's shield. Tamiya's flickered out in turn as she tumbled backwards. Sinter found himself centered before the abomination.

His attempted parry was weak in the face of an opponent with such an indiscernible physique. Where he shoved off one blade, several more sliced his arms and torso. He flinched on instinct, though the shield took the brunt of the hit. Sinter was spared, but only temporarily.

Sinter does 0 damage!

Frossa, meanwhile, landed a direct hit. Amid the flurry of blades, she'd swept the legs out from underneath the creature. Sinter straightened to attention. The beast hit the ground and Sinter leaped forward.

His sword sunk into the downed daywalker's chest beneath the sternum. Sinter twisted the blade for good measure as he wrenched his weapon free. With his foot stamped on the abdomen of the creature for leverage, he ripped himself away. Muddled blood of an inscrutably dark color spattered the floor. "It's not dead yet!"

Sinter does 5 damage!

"Its almost ******** there!" Punkie yelled as her daggers poked holes in the thing. She could feel its unlife slipping from an already dead body. Its movements slowed, the liquids that sputtered from it seemed to slow a small bit, as if it were running out of them. "Strike strong and ******** hard!" Punkie said to the troll that took the spot she had just occupied.
