That your new pokemon?” he asked, gesturing to Lucy, who gave a friendly wave in greeting. Mel flashed her a smile, already proud of her starter. ”Yeah, this is Lucy,” she confirmed, looking back to her friend. ”Lucy, huh…? Well, nice to meet you, Lucy,” he greeted, giving a goofy grin and a toasting gesture with his popsicle, ”Welcome to the gang. The trip from Twinleaf to Sandgem was an uneventful one, save for when Grayson received a reply from Azalea and he quickly sent a text back, but it was better that way; at least in Grayson's opinion. The male still had his phone out in his hand when an audible crack rang out into the air, which was a sound that even garnered his attention. Turning his phone he turned around quickly, eye snapping to the egg in Styx's arms. Just as he'd thought, there was a large crack streaking down the middle of the egg, where as earlier the surface had been smooth and polished. "Finally."
Grayson reached out to take the egg, only to be interrupted by a sudden appearance of an.. admittedly dopey looking pokemon; of course, now a pokemon had to decide to show itself. Not bothering to scan the beaver Grayson simply released Morta, who locked eyes immediately with the beaver, before he slipped the egg out of Styx's hold and pulled it to his person. It was about time he figured out what this egg contained...

Once Morta had taken care of the Bidoof, coming out of the battle without a single scratch on her, she didn't stop there and took the initiative to find another pokemon to fight against. Even if she didn't have Grayson's permission she knew he wouldn't have objected, after all he'd been the one to suggest she do some training; save for Tartarus, she was the weakest pokemon on his team, and it was something neither would allow to remain. It didn't take long before the eager Gengar found another opponent, a young Shinx who had yet to notice her presence. With a silent chuckle Morta snuck up on the lion cub, delivering a lick that caused the feline's fur to spark and a shiver to run down its back. With a growl it spun around and lashed out blindly, Morta only chuckling as she quickly phased through the pokemon and retaliated with another lick. She didn't bother to stick around to actually see the Shinx faint, instead moving forward to find another opponent.
As Morta went about terrorizing the local wildlife, Grayson waited patiently for the egg in his arms to hatch, at one point even going as far as to brush his bang out of his eye so that he could watch with both eyes. The egg shook, trembled, and even jumped before a large crack appeared at the very top of the egg before a sizable chunk fell away, a head becoming visible. "..Kit?" Ears popped out next, the extremities twitching in the air before, slowly, the rest of the pokemon's body appeared from out of the egg. With wide eyes it stared up at Grayson, hovering in the air for a millisecond before, with a mewl, it dropped like a rock, right back into Grayson's arms. The human, with his bang sliding back over his right eye, stared down at the feline in his arms, his expression unreadable.

Grayson continued to stare down at the kitten in his arms, taking in its every feature, before without warning he lifted it up in his arms--Lion King style--and pursed his lips curiously. Deciding to try an experiment he concentrated on the baby pokemon before sending out a telepathic message, "hey." It wasn't anything too complex, and although it was unexpected he made sure not to actually shout into the kit's mind. That didn't seem to matter, unfortunately, as it still gave a cry of surprise before it curled in on itself, surprised. Grayson remained unperturbed. "Calm down, I'm not going to hurt you." The kit's ear twitched, but other than that it offered no movement. "You don't need to be afraid," he insisted, and after a full minute the pokemon finally unfurled itself, its gaze uncertain but no longer fearful.
"Good." Switching to verbal communication Grayson dropped his arms back before he shifted the pokemon to cradle it in the crook of his left arm, using his right hand to reach back and pull out his pokedex. Flipping the computer open he brought it in front of the kitten, who stared at the strange device quietly before stretching its paws out in its direction. With a grunt Grayson kept the pokedex out of the pokemon's reach then scanned it, waiting for its information to load up before he brought it up for him to look at. A Magikit, was it? Interesting. He'd heard of the elusive witchlings, them and their evolved form, but this was the first time he'd ever seen one; it brought to question just where the hell his sister had found this egg.
Not bothering to try and figure that out, at least not right then, Grayson refocused his attention back to the pokedex, reading over the small entry they had for Magikit, and the more personal information that involved his, before he snapped it shut and looked down at the Magikit, who stared back up at him silently. "Your name will come later," he started, momentarily lifting his head up at the sound of a pokemon's cry of pain; Morta seemed to be having fun. "But, know that I'm your trainer. We'll forgo the training right now and instead work on teachin' you... the life basics, I guess." Did it understand him? Curious, Grayson concentrated once more before giving the Magikit's mind a light probing, pleased to find that it was currently working to digest the information it'd received. Good.

With things settled it was time to head out of the city and to-- hm, now that he thought about it, he actually didn't know where he should go next. He knew where he wanted to go, and the general direction of the location, but the roads he needed to take to actually get there... he should've grabbed a map. Suppressing a yawn Grayson decided he wasn't too distraught about potentially becoming lost, not enough to go back to try and locate a map at least, and looked forward. The road ahead only had one direction, North, so for now at least he knew where to head.
"Morta, let's get going!" Grayson lifted Magikit up to place him on his shoulder, the feline understanding enough to know what he'd need to do to prevent himself from tumbling off and taking a grip of the male's hoodie. While Morta stalked back to him Grayson turned his attention back to his other two pokemon, his gaze lingering on Litwick, before he indicated for them to start moving as well. Once out of the tall grass Morta took her usual position, sinking back into Grayson's shadow with narrowed eyes flickering back and forth, just to make sure she hadn't missed a pokemon.

He was almost in Twinleaf, which meant he was one town away from the nearest train station and only hours away from returning to Kanto. Grayson breathed out slowly and quietly then lifted one hand up to rub at his eyes, on his shoulder Aita began to squirm. The pale teen didn't even bother to lift his hand from off his eyes and instead simply nodded his head, giving his permission for the Magikit to take on whatever had caught his attention. He waited, pressing the pad of his thumb against the corner of his eye, and once the cries of Aita's opponent rang out, indicating its defeat, Grayson dropped his hand to the ground and looked out.
"Huh." Grayson found himself huffing in mild amusement when he noticed that Aita had defeated another one of those Spinarak, the all black with a red hourglass, which meant he had to do his job and actually catch it; research and all that. With this in mind he gave a lackadaisical underhanded tossed to capture the spider, and once the pokeball had grown still Grayson dropped down to scoop it up. Now he had another pokemon to send, wasn't he just a good little grunt.
(As a note, this capture was purely for rp purposes. This Spinarak will never be used.)
