2 zombies killed

Lorata was determined to pretend that fall hadn't just happened, but she couldn't do that until after she had managed to get her feet back under her. Sliding back away from the zombie that had taken her down, she slashed out frantically and finally managed to clear enough space to stand again.

Even from a distance, Kursha could tell that blueblood was frustrated. Though she had not lost her vigour, less and less of her attacks landed. Unfortunately, Elidae and Lorata remained in the thick of it, and risked being rundown and overwhelmed. Kursha stuck his tongue in the side of his cheek, as he lined up his shots. Three shots fired, almost indistinguishable from each other, followed by the rattle of empty shell casings. A second later, there were six more shots. The last of the daywalkers dropped to the floor in almost perfect unison.

Ejecting the second set of shell casings, Kursha sauntered over to Sarcel. He plugged six rounds lazily into the dock, before swinging the chamber back into the barrel of the rifle. Looking up, he offered the blueblood a sly grin. “If you'd like I can offer you a few tips,” he teased.

"We need to keep moving." She said curtly, which essentially equated to 'I don't have time for this right now. More daywalkers could appear at any moment, and looking around the team... she worried. They would definitely face harder adversaries the deeper in they went.

Her boots--hefty as they were--traversed the ground with a startling silence as she walked forward.

Swallowing hard, Elidae followed behind the leads of their team and kept her eyes wide open, ready for any attack. Her lookstubs seemed to dart this way and that, and she even turned her body a full 360 to look behind them. It might have looked a bit paranoid, but paranoia is better than being unprepared.

"Looks like there's more, up ahead!" She might have been stating the obvious, but Elidae wanted to help everyone be on their game. She sidled up next to Lorata, giving her a wary glance.

Lorata counts zombies. There are 28!

It was kind of interesting, watching the way the Captain and Sarcel spoke to each other. Had they been like that back before? She couldn't remember. There wasn't really all that much time to spend thinking on it, though, because there was movement up ahead down the corridor. "Twenty-eight of them this time," she announced, squinting. Yes, she was sure of the count.

“You've got good lookstubs,” Kursha said to Lorata with a grin, at the same time that his own eyes morphed into crosshairs. Even if the seadweller had grown up since their last venture, he could not resist trying to impress her. “Take it from me,” he added.

Beside him, he heard Sarcel load her rifle, and a second later the explosion of gunfire. Kursha winced at the sound. As he raised the rifle to his shoulder and lined up his own shot, he muttered to the blueblood out of the corner of his mouth. “Lighten up a little. They're watching.” With a nudge of his head, he gestured to Lorata and Elidae.

"Then start taking this seriously..." She murmured under her breath, loud enough for Kursha to hear, but not so much that it would be a disruption to Lorata and Elidae. She loaded her gun, punched another zombie, watched in satisfaction as it came apart from the shot of her spread. She was trying to do her mission here.

Luckily this group was going down fairly easily, though she knew that was in large part thanks to just how many the Captain seemed to be able to take down at a time. It was a bit hard sometimes to get her own kills in, even. How sad was it to stab at a daywalker only to watch it fall down before you even hit it?

Despite the uncertainty with how her team had been handling itself, Elidae kept up her enthusiasm and determination. "Everyone is doing so great! This is easy as cake, right?!" Elidae yelled over the gunfire and gurgling daywalkers, ignoring the groans and squelches of mutilated, decaying flesh. A head she had freshly snipped off rolled in the direction of the others.

The daywalkers dropped even more quickly than the last group had. “Oh? Is that what you think?” Kursha said. The grin that stretched across his face could not have been any wider. “I'm counting twenty-six, right now. What are you at, Cincil?” As Elidae and Lorata picked out the last of them, Kursha breezed past Sarcel.

“You're absolutely right,” he told the yellowblood, clapping a hand on her shoulder. “It's almost too easy. Between you and me though...” He dropped his voice into a stage whisper, and gestured for Lorata to come closer. “I think we're showing the lieutenant up, and her feelings are starting to get a little hurt. Let's try to reel it in a bit, okay?” With a nod and a wink, he patted both on the back, then turned to face Sarcel.

“Hey, great news, lieutenant! Everyone's decided to let you take the next one all by yourself! How's that sound?” The greenblood radiated pure, sadistic glee.

The interaction between Kursha and Sarcel somewhat came across as alarming. Elidae knew Kursha liked to tease, but she could also tell it was drastically affecting the dynamic of the team-particularly with Sarcel. "Captain!" Elidae jogged up beside him and put a hand on his arm, and gave him a smile. She was quiet for a moment, her eyes reflecting back somewhat of a warning. "Why don't I check down here? If its clear, I'll give you this hand signal!" Elidae put up a classic 'peace' sign while her face seemed to sparkle in the grim darkness.

She then moved quickly down the hall, keeping her hand on hilt. As she neared the corner, Elidae peaked for a moment, then turned back. No? She looked again to see the hall empty.

Looking back to the three small, dark figures, she put up her two fingers.

Sarcel gawked incredulously before storming off. Whatever, she was done playing games. Instead, she almost stomped her way right into a door. Thankfully she didn't clobber into it; instead she waited (painstakingly) for the rest of her team to catch up. "There's a door here." Her tone was nothing but professional now, "If anyone would like to have a look."

Lorata looks at that door.

Oh! A door. After all the ships she had been through, Lorata could now say without a doubt that she hated whoever had thought up the locking and trapping mechanisms for these ships. But she wasn't about to say she'd been having trouble with them in front of this group. "This seems to be trapped," she announced, glancing around to see if anyone else wanted to deal with that.

Kursha was at an impasse. Too much, Elidae told him by the look in her eyes, as she placed a hand on his arm. He trusted her judgement, and wanted to heed her warning. Yet the temptation to rile the blueblood gripped him almost as strongly as his moirail.

After dismantling the trap, Kursha opened the door. He stood off to one side, gesturing the others inside. “After you,” he said, with a pointed grin at Sarcel.

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.
The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!
You have encountered a ...

Dice 1
1. ... Insatiable ... (-2 to all attacks)
2. ... Gushing ... (-1 on accuracy rolls)
3. ... Volatile ... (-2 on all accuracy rolls)
4. ... Nightmarish ... (-1 to all attacks)
Dice 2
1. ... Regenerating ... (regains 2 HP per player attack, excluding bonus attacks)
2. ... Bladed ... (3 extra dmg taken for each round in battle)
3. ... Psionic ... (using artifacts/ability/items deals 6 dmg to the entire party)
4. ... Mutating... (each member of the party takes 4 damage each time a party member deals max damage(highest roll possible))
Dice 3
1. ... Reanimated Subjugglator!
2. ... Wailing Abomination!
3. ... Hulking Commander!
4. ... Distorted Masses!
MINIBOSS STARTING HP: 40/40
If you rolled a 1, take 6 dmg.
If you rolled a 2, take 5 dmg.
If you rolled a 3, take 5 dmg.
If you rolled a 4, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 5, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 6, take 3 dmg.
If all party members reach 0hp, look below:
You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room,
you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached.
Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:

If this is your first, second or third mini-boss fight look below:

If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can close your eyes and draw on inner reserves to keep going. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Restore 1d10+3 OR 1/3rd (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Restore 1d8+2 OR 1/4th (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are training your skill: Restore 1d6+1 hp.
You cannot roll the dice then choose the flat restoration, one must be picked beforehand.

If a member of your team is a trained Troll Relations or Leadership specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can manage to cheer, rally, or cajole your teammates into finding more energy. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+3 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+2 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are training your skill: Each team member restores 1d4+1 (rolled separately) hp.

If this is your fourth mini-boss fight, you have reached one of the steering systems! Roll 1d4 in the spoiler below:

1 - The other teams appear to have been successful in their endeavors. There's enough power available for you to reengage the system. The entire room illuminates and roars with life. It's perhaps dangerous to hang around in here too long, but in the meantime the amount of energy in the air makes you feel powerful.
2 - The tendrils of the ship's wiring look like a crime scene, or perhaps a particularly gory nest. Headquarters gives you harried instructions to shut down and isolate the area before the whole ship goes up in flames.
3 - An undead helmsman is still tethered to the center console. They don't have the ability to provide power, but their presence is preventing the back-up systems from triggering. You remove the zombie and the system reengages successfully.
4 - The room is dark and cold, but with instructions from headquarters and the efforts of the teams on the other decks, the system has enough power to reboot itself. The ship begins to thrum with life. It makes your horns tingle and your hair stand on end.
Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!
