"Oh, how about this one?" Amonee looked over the flyer and ran his finger along one of the jokes. It was kind of fun that they'd found something like this. A little piece of history and a little something special to keep things light and fun! These old ships got dreary and scary the longer you stayed on them.

"Why wasn't the key invited to the party?" The group advanced down the hallway some before stopping in front of a closed door. "Because he was a little door key!" Maybe not the nicest joke but he thought it might make the elitist sirens laugh.

"Oh geez!" Nucleo smiled at Amonee's terrible joke. As the jadeblood tried to entertain the girls, Nucleo paused and examined the door. It didn't look right. He frowned while investigating a silver mechanism on the door before straightening up to deliver the bad news.

"It's trapped. Maybe we can use that scanner I found earlier." The greenblood suggested, pulling it out. Predictably, Austri reached over and snagged it to give it a try. He would be annoyed expect it was a relief for her to simply accept it without any smart remarks. In fact she seemed to be behaving pretty well! Maybe they could get through this mission without any problems.

      Austri watched the rest of them wander before hearing Amonee speak up and tell a fairly funny joke-- It was a little shocking, for sure, hearing him tell a cute yet insulting joke, but it was fitting, and the greenblood punched Amonee's shoulder lightly after that. "Good joke~ I found it hilarious, hehe~" She grabbed the scanner they'd found earlier, eager to help out, but-- It was simply unsolvable. Or maybe she was just tired. She was probably just tired. Austri squinted at the unopenable door. "Hm. It's~ Not really opening~"

Lorata tries to disarm!

"A little door key!" Lorata repeated the punchline with a delighted laugh, giving Amonee a bright smile before Austri's struggles with the scanner caught her attention.

"The scanner didn't work!?" Lorata glanced back at the trapped door with a brief grimace, then shook her head and smiled again. She was in a good mood tonight, and one of her Sirens was here to back her up!

"Well that's fine, I'll just disarm it myself! We don't need that old tech!" She fiddled with the mechanism a moment, and then there was a beep. A light by the door turned green. That was good, right? Hesitantly, she opened it.

"Um... something doesn't seem right..." Amonee was not convinced that the door had been properly disarmed. He wanted to believe in Lorata's skills but there was something unsettling about the string of beeps that had played after her fiddling. It had almost sounded... musical. He peered into the door and frowned.

"I mean, I think the door is disarmed! Haha, of course! But something else in the room is giving bad vibes." He had to be careful not to bruise her ego or Austri would probably beat him up.

Lorata goes through the door and hopes her partisan will hold most of the ceiling off of her

Lorata couldn't let any of them go through. Not Nucleo, who would remember her order from the last time they'd faced a trapped ceiling if he knew what was good for him, not Amonee, and definitely not Austri. She couldn't ever watch Austri go through that again. So, before the decision could come to any discussion, the seadweller steeled herself, straightened proudly, and walked through the doorway.

The little light turned red. The was an ominous crack from above. She ducked, hoping the point of her partisan would keep enough debris off of her to keep from serious harm. The ceiling gave way, parting to dump a veritable mountain of confetti on top of the seadweller. It was too much confetti, sweeping her off her feet with a shriek and burying her immediately. The sudden blare of honking circus music made it impossible to get through the thought process of how anyone had managed to pack that up there in the first place.

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.

The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!

You have encountered a ...



Dice 1

1. ... Enraged... (-1 to all attacks)

2. ... Jawless... (+1 on accuracy rolls)

3. ... Putrid... (-1 on all accuracy rolls)

4. ... Decomposing ... (+1 on all attacks)

Dice 2

1. ... Skeletal... (-5 miniboss HP)

2. ... Bellicose... (players take 2x the amount of damage on their first turn)

3. ... Armoured... (only 2 players per turn may use a special artifact/ability/item)

4. ... Burning... (take an extra 1 dmg each time you deal max damage (highest roll possible for weapon or damage-dealing skill))

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*

2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*

If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.

      Lorata strode in and managed to avoid taking too much damage, something the greenblood was thankful for, especially because Austri was still not feeling too hot. At most, she could probably push through her pain, but Austri was ready for anything-- Thankfully, it was just a typical small fry. Er, typical, powerful small fry. Austri threw quick, practiced kick at a couple of the zombie gerbils-- They were nothing like her own zombie gerbil, feral and wild, nothing like her sweet baby. The greenblood did not hesitate to attack them all.

      Austri cracked her knuckles and prepared herself for a great hit, stretching her arms before first aiming a weak punch at the monsters, then throwing a couple more kicks at a few of them. She would've enjoyed them if they were as well behaved as her cute little dude bro, but the teen really just wanted to destroy them all. Why were there so many of them anyways?!

Nucleo wanted to protest at Lorata's choice but held himself back. She was the commander here. He had to listen to her. Plus after how upset she'd gotten on that previous ship... he didn't want to make her make that face again. He stayed back and was forced to watch her fall to the trap.

... of confetti?

That wasn't nearly as bad! He was a little peeved that he'd almost been taken out by his ceiling trap but ultimately was just glad to see she was alright. If that's how life wanted to play, he was alright with it. And now it was time to fight gerbils! Again...

"Whoa!" He learned quick he'd also have to dodge Austri's attacks, weaving around her as they pummeled gerbils in close combat!

Amonee watched Austri thrash around the battlefront in awe. Although he was trying to learn from her and ought to be used to seeing the powers, they were still kind of incredible and also terrifying. He was used to gentle magic like Nucleo's clones and Caiden's illusions. Several of his friends had healing abilities as well. But Austri was pure destruction and force.

"Sorry, cutting in!" He pounced on a couple of the gerbils and smashed them with his club. It was kind of gross to fight gerbils and watch them die but it had to be done. They needed to look for the data and stuff that Panili had asked for. He would not risk another failure like the last time.

The blade of a partisan suddenly pierced through the confetti mountain. It swept in an arc then disappeared again before a hand clawed itself out. Lorata emerged, frazzled and furious, and then, of course, immediately saw gerbils. She would make them pay for this. She launched into a series of relentless attacks, confetti still flying off of her.

Lorata reached up to pull more confetti off of her head as it streamed down within sight, her fingers brushing the power button of her goggles as she did so. Hearing the hum of it powering up, she slid them on and continued wreaking havoc. Finally, finally, they were all dead.

Lorata nodded as Austri praised everyone for their work, her expression still stony. After a long moment, she marched up to the three greenbloods, staring at them all very seriously. Then, abruptly drooping a little, she made a plaintive whine. "Is it still in my hair?" She hated this room.
