Amethyst, now more than a bit peeved about the amount of damage she'd taken, turned to her last opponent with impatience and the determination to make this a quick battle. It took a moment to distinguish the single conscious pokemon amongst the pile of its fainted comrades but, eventually, she spotted the Nidoqueen, the only pokemon she'd yet to go against and was only just now stirring to its feet. Amethyst didn't give it a chance to even clear its mind, let alone take a step forward, before she struck it with a psychic attack that had it crumbling to its feet, falling back to the ground with a heavy thud.

With Alexandra's hand held in the tight grip of the stranger she had no choice but to continue running with her and her companion, their pace only slowing down when all three were out of breath and in the busiest part of the city. Alexandra placed a hand onto the nearest wall to begin leaning heavily against it, her vision swimming as her chest rose and fell quickly. Ten minutes later and the three, with Alexandra's pokemon, were sitting in a café, empty save for a waitress that had just left with their orders. After recovering, for the most part, from their mad dash the two strangers, who revealed themselves as Aja and Jay-- siblings, they'd suggested going to the nearest café to recuperate, rest and explain just why they were being chased. "It's because of this." Aja pulled out a map, one of the six regions from the looks of it, and placed it onto the table. There were marks made amongst the maps, two circles on each of the regions-- though there seemed to be an 'x' in the middle of the two in Kalos and Johto. "I'm sorry, but you'll need to extrapolate. I assume you two are using this as a... guide of sorts, but for what?"
Aja drew back then gave her brother a look, who simply returned the expression with a soft shrug. He had yet to say a word since he and his sister had run into Alexandra, though he continued to make glances at the brunette and, whenever they made eye contact, he made sure to offer a smile. A silent conversation seemed to pass between the siblings and, once concluded, Aja turned back to look at Alexandra. "There's something there that we want," she answered vaguely and began to roll up the map, tucking it away gently back into the small bag she carried with her. "Those pokemon you fought, they belong to a treasure hunter named Kane. He stole this map from us, and when we tried to get it back... well, you saw what happened." Before Alexandra could begin questioning them once more the waitress returned with a tray full of drinks, placing them down onto the table with a soft smile before she went off once more. Alexandra took her glass softly, her fingers curling around the smooth cylinder before she brought it to her lips to take a sip from. This.. well, she certainly hadn't expected to suddenly be caught up in some... treasure hunt of some kind.

Even with the multiple questions crowding her mind Alexandra was forced to keep them at bay, Jay and Aja were obviously more interested in their food, once it arrived, and it'd be far easier to get information out of them when their mouths weren't full of food. She ate quietly, pausing only when she checked on Caldo and Xion to see if they had enough food as well. Of course, she'd need to feed her other pokemon right now, but a café wasn't necessarily the best place to let out all twelve. She'd make sure to let them all eat when she went to the pokecenter.
Another thirty minutes passed and all three humans, and Alexandra's two pokemon, had finished eating. Now all that was left to do was to pay the bill. "So." Aja stretched herself gently before she picked up her glass to take a sip from it. "I can tell you have questions, but, I'm sorry, we can't answer them all." Alexandra, shocked, opened her mouth to protest. "We need to get going anyway. Kane could still very well be in the city, and we don't want to be caught by him. I suggest you leave soon, and if you have business here make it short. Even if Kane didn't see you, his pokemon definitely did." Alexandra, who for once was at a loss for words, simply pursed her lips as she listened to this information. "I was going to challenge Maylene," she admitted. "But, I shall heed your words and try and leave soon after I finish my battle with her."
Aja nodded slowly before she moved to withdraw something from her bag, revealing a plate to which she handed to Alexandra. "Maylene's a fighting type leader, right? There's a good chance you'll have a flying type on you, so here. Think of this as a thank you gift for saving our tails." The brunette took the item carefully, and while she looked it over Aja and Jay stood to their feet. "It was nice meeting you, Alexandra~ Stay safe, alright." Alexandra looked up, prepared to issue out a thank you and goodbye, but by the time she'd lifted her head the siblings were already out the door. She pursed her lips before she shook her head, making to stand and pay for her meal. She'd only just gotten her wallet out, however, when the waitress returned to inform her that her meal had already been paid, by Jay.
"Oh, I see." Alexandra nodded slowly then slipped her wallet back into her bag, reaching back to grab Aja's gift and tuck it underneath her arm. "Have a good day then." With Caldo and Xion by her side she headed for the door, mind split between dwelling on the last hour and the strategy she needed to make for her battle against Maylene.

With a plan now made Alexandra made her way to the pokecenter to heal and feed up her pokemon. After a quick visit to Nurse Joy the brunette made her way to the cafeteria, where she enlisted the help of Caldo and Xion, who had already eaten, in grabbing enough food for the rest of her team and placing it onto the nearest table. Once she had everything all settled she released the rest of her team, moving back a bit so that there was enough room for everyone. Alexandra sat down in a nearby chair, giving herself time to relax before her battle against Maylene, and took the time to check her XTransceiver, a smile briefly flitting her lips when she saw that she had a reply from Marx. Stopping to pet Siemens, who had taken it upon himself to eating his few pellets on his trainer's shoulder, she began typing out her response.
Text to Marx: Maylene specializes in fighting types. I believe I've prepared myself and my pokemon as much as I can-- I'll be using four pokemon with type advantages against Maylene's own pokemon. Thank you for the vote of confidence, it's appreciated. Hopefully, the next time I text you, I'll have my third badge.
After sending the message Alexandra sat back, trying to figure out any last minute tweaks she could make to her team. After a bit of thought she called Amethyst over to her and from her bag handed, and unwrapped, three rare candies. While the Espeon delicately chewed her confections Alexandra tried to convince Siemens to allow her to borrow his expert belt. "I promise that I'll return it to you, Siemens, and that it will be taken care of," she coaxed him then gave him a soft scratch on the head. With a defeated squeak he conceded, allowing Alexandra to untie the belt from around his body and in turn tie it around Amethyst's left paw. With that done there was only one thing left and after sending Amethyst back to her food she called forth Comet, gently taking the Shell Bell necklace from around his neck and replacing it with the Sky plate Aja had gifted her.
"There." Alexandra nodded to herself before she returned to petting Siemens, now confident in her ability to win her battle against Maylene. She waited for the rest of her team to finish eating before she returned all but Siemens, in an attempt to make up for taking his item. The Joltik, with another squeak, rubbed himself against his trainer's cheek in appreciation. At the very least, he'd get to see this battle.

With Siemens perched on her shoulder Alexandra made her way to the gym, going over her tactic one last time. She felt more than ready, but there was a probability that things could go horribly wrong and she ended up losing, and although she wouldn't necessarily be crushed by a loss it wasn't... preferred. The brunette was interested in this renaissance fair Marx kept mentioning, and it'd been a while since she'd been to a fair of sorts; the last one she'd gone to had been over a year ago, and it was actually where she'd met Marx and Rose-- Xion and Slade too.
Alexandra pushed open the doors of the gym, at the same time pushing back any thoughts that weren't battle related, and looked around trying to spot Maylene amongst the multiple boxing rings situated around the building. The sound of hands and feet beating against other bodies and the like filled the air, as did the smell of sweat and the cries of multiple people. This was a... literal gym, and appropriate for a fighting type gym leader, she supposed. Gathering herself Alexandra began the task of skirting around the rings and declining, multiple times, to get in the ring with a few of the other gym goers. Finally she managed to find Maylene, the pink haired girl in the process of hitting a Wing Chun, her feet and hands practically flying as she hit the bars over and over.
"Pardon me," Alexandra started, slowly. "Are you Maylene? I'd like to challenge you--""HIIYAAA!" Maylene spun around, punching the air directly in front of Alexandra. The brunette blinked, eyes widening, before she took a cautionary step back. "You're here for a battle? Excellent, my pokemon are in need of a work out." The young girl beat her fist into an open palm with determination. "Let's begin!"

Alexandra smiled softly as the battle was concluded, her eyes instantly fluttering up to the air to watch Comet complete a victory lap around the sky, his injuries nonexistent despite the battle he'd just endured. "Thank you very much." The brunette bowed to Maylene as she congratulated her, taking her winnings after she'd straightened up. With one hand full with both the badge and TM she used the other to pull out Comet's pokeball and return the gleeful pokemon. "Oh! And before you go, you might want to take this." Alexandra looked back at the gym leader as she spoke, eyes roaming over her extended hand to see that she held one more disc out to her. "It's Fly, I figured you'd appreciate having a faster mode of transportation besides the trains." With a chuckle the pinkette turned away, heading off to heal her pokemon and resume her training.
With her business now officially concluded Alexandra made her leave, one hand reaching back to scratch Siemens gently on the head. She drew back, however, when she felt a soft vibration and saw that she'd received a text from Rose. What convenient timing. Alexandra began to type out a reply as she moved around the rings, once again politely declining the multiple offers she received to join the few remaining martial artists in the ring. Goodness, what were with these people?

"Apparently he's being hit on by another guy at the fair, who is starting to think that he's making me up, so it's pretty awkward for him." She giggled. "Awkward for him being the key words here, it's very amusing to me, but he's suffered enough so I suppose I should try to hurry and save his dignity." Isis explained before sending Nocturne into the air so they could head towards Veilstone.
Once they had landed in front of the apartment building, Isis let Zero lead her up through to room 2-6 and open the door. Sure enough, when they made their way inside, there were two costumes laid out with sticky notes attached, labeling them whose costume was who's. Isis picked up her set and smiled. "I'll go change in the bedroom." Isis suggested, making her way over to the room and closing the door so she could get dressed. It took her some time to figure out how to arrange and put on the foam armor, but eventually she had equipped it properly along with the cape, and afterwards she undid her ponyta tails, letting her hair down to put the headband accessory in. After storing her clothes and hairbands away in her bag, she took another look in the mirror to see if everything fit properly. It was quite a nice costume, she would make sure to be careful with this one. Satisfied, Isis stepped out of the room and made her way back into the living room to see if Zero was ready yet, and what his costume looked like. ✿ ❀

[Character Entrance] Zero chuckled at Isis' explanation, already imagining Leon, in full costume being hit on by another guy who doubted the girlfriend excuse. Given, he had no frame of reference, so in his head it was just a costume Machina wore with Leon's head plastered over his and just another Leon doing the flirting, but still. "And we're sure he's even into human girls? He seems to get a lot of attention from 'other sources'." He joked, before the pair took off and headed towards Veilstone.
After they landed, it didn't take long for the pair of trainers to ascend the stairs and reach the second floor of the apartment building his friend's lived in, and even less time to get to their door and unlock it. Once inside, the two picked up their costumes and separated to change, Nova going off to the kitchen so Zero had some privacy in the main room. While Isis changed in the bedroom, he quickly changed out of his normal clothes and into the costume. Rather than the foam armor that Isis had, his was more reflective of light armor, a long, sharp coat that extended down to his ankles, with a plain shirt and a leather vest underneath, as well as a facemask that covered everything up to his eyes. To complete the look, a stylish, if tattered tricorn hat went onto his head, almost covering his eyes as the brim extended forward. It made him look... Much older, weirdly enough. When Isis finally entered the room again, he'd adjusted one of the gloves covering his hand and turned to her, holding his arms outstretched. "How do I look?"

"I'm sure, but that doesn't mean I can't tease him as if I weren't~" She grinned mischievously. He always got so worked up when she suggested he was into pretty lopunny, it was adorable. Soon the conversation was derailed, since they had arrived in Veilstone, so it was time to head into Machina and Andreas' apartment for their costumes. Isis got dressed into her foam princess armor, and came back out of her changing room to find Zero practically covered in dark cloth and leather. He asked her for her opinion, but Isis just shook her head and laughed, approaching her friend. "Handsome, but I can hardly see you." She mused, pulling his facemask down slowly until she could see his face again. "There.... Better." Isis suggested, her hand resting on his shoulder for a moment as she smiled softly up at him.
Blinking, Isis pulled away, realizing what she was doing and regretting it immediately. "U-um.... We should probably get going then...." She muttered lamely. Arceus, she was an idiot.... She needed to stop doing things like that, but.... It was easier said than done.... Easy to say she should just cast aside the feelings she had developed for Zero over two years because she was dating Leon now. She was just so.... Frustrated with herself. Zero laughed a bit as Isis commented on the mask covering his face, but found himself pausing when she grew closer. She reached up and carefully pulled down his mask, revealing what was covered as she rested a hand on his shoulder. So close and with such a familiar smile, Zero almost instinctively returned the gesture, a soft smile spreading across his face. For an instant, he forgot about the world around him, and had tunnel vision for the girl in front of him.
Unfortunately, reality would not be ignored, and at about the same time they realized what they were doing, and the two stepped away from each other. Partially to hide his blush and partially to keep his composure, he pulled up his mask again, leaving only his eyes and the hair that cascaded down from his hat to be seen by the world. "Isis..." He balled his fists and looked downward, inhaling deeply as he needed a moment to think. "Isis... Are you sure you want me to come with you for this?" He finally asked his purple gaze rising back up to meet her. "I...know you don't mean to tease me like that, but..."

✿ ❀Isis had turned away from Zero, quickly starting for the door so they could leave and get going to the fair, but Zero's voice calling her name made her pause, tensing as she waited for Zero to sort out his thoughts. "...Yes?" She asked hesitantly, knowing that she probably wasn't going to like whatever he said next, but wanting to know nonetheless. After a moment, he asked if she was sure he wanted him to come along to the fair. "I..... I don't know....." She admitted quietly, bringing her arms up to hug herself somewhat, the guilt she felt earlier growing exponentially when he suggested that he knew she didn't mean to keep teasing him like that. "No, I don't mean to. I'm sorry.... It's just.... Hard." Isis said with great difficulty, giving a bit of a forced, shallow laugh. It felt hard to breathe, she was biting her bottom lip so hard, she had to remind herself to stop before it started bleeding. "I'm really selfish aren't I...? Wanting to keep you in my life, knowing that it hurts you.... Knowing that I'm going to probably keep hurting you by doing stupid things like this...." She said shakily, wiping a tear from her cheek. "I want to say I can't help myself, but that's a lie.... I could stop, I guess I just don't want to..... Haha...." She grimaced. "I love you, and I don't think that's ever going to change... But I love Leon too, and I can't just.... Arceus, why can't these things ever be simple....?" She gave another bitter laugh. She couldn't even look at Zero. She didn't deserve to, stringing him along like this, giving him hope that they had a chance still even though Isis knew she wouldn't be leaving Leon unless things weren't working out between them. She felt like the scum of the earth. ✿ ❀

Zero's gaze was unsteady as he looked to his companion, instinctively wanting to turn away and stare at the ground when the air grew thick and heavy, but he forced himself to look ahead. He found himself immobile, unable to act or say anything as Isis was clearly hurting just as much, perhaps even moreso. He balled his fists and cursed himself in his mind, chastising his inability to do anything in this situation. He felt his legs waver as she said he did love him, but she also felt that way for Leon, and there was no simple way to resolve any of this. He knew this, he was all too painfully aware of all of this... Yet still, he could do nothing. Every moment he hurt, he knew it was no easier for Isis, and there was nothing he could do to fix that. He wanted to act, he wanted to help... He wanted to fix all of this, but... All he could do is stand there and shake, fighting every bone in his body it threatened to collapse to his knees, unable to handle the sheer weight of all of this. He gritted his teeth and shut his eyes, feeling the knot in his throat as the words refused to come out.
Move.
His eyes snapped open, and in an instant, his body was steady. A cold sweat had washed over him, but despite that, his composure returned.
March forward, without delay. Stand tall and hold firm, so those before you might release their burdens.
There they were again; the echos in his mind. The phantom voices that willed him forward in the Distortion World.
If you cannot bear the weight, what can those shouldering it with you hope for?
It all went by so fast, but in the couple of seconds since Isis' last question Zero found himself steady again, his mind strangely clear as he looked at his companion without faltering. Nova watched from the side, surprised as well as a profound stillness enveloped her trainer, but before they could linger on the cause, Zero stepped forward.
"I can't answer that, sadly," He admitted, approaching his friend. He moved beside her, pressing his open palm into her back as he looked ahead, trying to not pressure the blonde with his gaze. "None of this is easy or simple... There's nothing we can change by this point that won't hurt someone involved." He took a deep breath, keeping his hand on Isis' back as he spoke. "Perhaps, in another time, in another place, things might've been different. Things wouldn't have happened the way they did, and we'd still have our simple little adventure to march on through without worry. But that's not where we are now." The digits of his free hand twitched slightly, as if the instinct to ball into a fist flashed only briefly before disappearing. "By now, I don't know if there's a way we can get back to the course we were on back then. Our paths may very well be forced to diverge from each other sooner or later, and regardless of what happens in the end, someone will be hurt..."
He took another breath, resting his eyes for just a moment. A phantom danced across his eyelids for just a moment, but it was gone in an instant before his eyes opened again. "But we'll need to walk it just the same. No matter how much I'll get hurt, no matter how many scars I'll be forced to bare... And even should the time finally come that I might disappear..." He paused, just shy of flinching at the thought, but he continued. "But I will still be here. The part of me that's with you won't fade so easily, and no matter how far our paths might take us away from each other... It'll keep pushing you forward." He finally turned his head to look at Isis, a warm, soft smile visible underneath his mask. "I will always be there to help bear the burden."
With that, he took his hand off of Isis, and started walking forward towards the door. "There very well might come a day when I can't handle the weight of all of this, but even if that comes to pass..." He opened the door while still facing away from Isis, his back almost seeming so distant despite being a few feet away. "I will still come, no matter the distance and no matter what has happened... I will always return when you need me." He exited the room and held the door as he turned back to face Isis, waiting for her so they could finally head out towards the fair. Noticing Zero didn't grab them though, Nova picked up and brought along one of the props that was left out for them, which was a small, toy pistol, that almost resembled a small blunderbuss meant to go with Zero's costume.

✿ ❀Isis tensed lightly as she felt Zero place his hand on her back, but soon relaxed again, unable to help feeling a little defensive. She didn't expect him to know the answer to these problems, but at least he reaffirmed her thoughts and feelings on the matter. What was done was done, and changing anything now would only hurt everyone involved. Besides, no matter which path she had taken, people would get hurt, so it wasn't going to be easier. She didn't like hearing him talking about the possibility of fading away, but at the very least, he didn't seem to either, so at least he was implying that he wouldn't be the one responsible for said potential disappearance, and that was a little reassuring. Still, as he walked out the door, Isis was a little hesitant to leave, letting Nova grab another part of Zero's costume and make her way out the door after Zero. Then it was Isis' turn, and after inhaling deeply, she stepped out of the door as well, and kept walking forward until they were out of the building, and making their way towards the fair. ✿ ❀
