When Terrence raised his hand to wave it, Trey barely managed to hide a flinch. He couldn't help it. However, his face split back into a smile when he saw that Terrence was saying he could travel with him. Relief flooded through him and he felt the pressure he had felt in his chest for most of the trip ease a bit. He felt like he could breathe easier since he had ran away from Unova. Terrence didn't walk particularly fast so after running out of Twinleaf to catch up with him Trey was able to keep up and walk at a more normal pace. It felt...nice having the companionship. Trey had been traveling alone and while it definitely felt freeing and safer than being with people sometimes, he realized he had been getting lonely. So he fell into step with Terrence and looked back when the older boy said he hadn't given much thought to what pokemon he would use. That surprised him a little bit. Terrence looked to Trey like someone who just knew what to do - a lot more than Trey did- even as having just met him Trey knew he had started looking up to the other boy since the events of the dreamworld. He hadn't thought that maybe Terrence didn't have a plan just like Trey did. "Right" he said worrying his lip between his teeth when Terrence said that they had time to come up with a plan. It still made him nervous...with Chance and Lyra being the only ones he had outside of Vita. He kept listening as Terrence said the gym was a rock type one ( that he hadn't known) and the the best bet were water, grass, fighting, ground and steel ( that...he sorta knew...he knew water beat rock as it had been in the lessons his father had drilled into him and also that fighting did but he had forgotten some of the other types) "So I guess" he said pushing thoughts of his father and past aside "I guess Vita then?" he said petting the Snivy on his shoulder fondly. Vita gave a 'Vi!' of affirmation which made Trey smile. Vita seemed entirely confident she could take on the gym by herself and it chased some of the worry away. He glanced at Terrence as they walked about to ask if he knew how much the gyms paid for battling (that was another reason he felt he had to take the gym. He couldn't ask his father or anyone really for anything and while he was fine going on a meal a day, he needed to provide for his pokemon and he knew he was running low and would run out of food eventually) but felt a twinge of worry when he noticed the boy looked ...tired and like he was struggling a bit. He opened his mouth to ask if Terrence was okay, but Terrence quickly told Trey he should train for a bit here. Trey shut his mouth and thought on that. He wanted to ask if Terrence was okay but found he couldn't really say no to the suggestion. "yeah..." he said eyes back down, though he was more comforted than he cared to admit that Terrence saying he would be right there ( wow he was kind of clingy huh) "yeah I..yeah you're right." he said. He stopped for a bit considering Terrence as he sat in the shade and released Lyra. The little fox pokemon yipped questioningly and stretched at finally being out of her pokeball. "Lyra why don't you stay with Terrence" he said petting his newest pokemon "we're gonna be training and-" Lyra didn't need to be told twice, bolting back to Terrence's side the moment the word 'training' was uttered. Lyra really didn't like training...it was probably for the best that the first gym was rock. Feeling a bit better about leaving Terrence now ( if ..if something happened Lyra could come find him right? And also Trey hated being alone so having company would be nice right?) he surveyed the town to find someone to train. "I...I won't go far" he said to Terrence as Lyra curled up unconcernedly -glad to be out of her ball- somewhere between asking for permission and letting him know out of consideration.

Trey looked around before seeing some of the grass move...right to train he needed to battle. Right. 'Vi' Vita said touching his face with a vine ( she always did that...reached for physical contact, seemed to know when he needed the grounding) he felt a swell of affection for the little vine pokemon. "Okay let's..let's find you a battle" he said swallowing past the discomfort the word gave him. He had Vita with him, he had never had Vita with him before his journey. That alone made a difference. Besides that, Terrence was watching him and Trey realized he really wanted the older boy to continue to think favorably of him. Steeling himself with these thoughts, he walked into the grass.

Trey couldn't help but jump back when a brown blur came at them from the grass. A bidoof...okay he could handle a bidoof. Right? "Vita use...um-" He swallowed and took a breath trying to recall the attacks his starter could use. Vita for her part had none of her trainer's hesitance. Trey was her trainer. He was hers. And he needed her to be able to battle well. If he couldn't fight back the fear he always carried around like a Geodude then she'd have to fight for him until he did. With a Vi! the little leaf pokemon took out her vines, swiping at the opposing Bidoof-only hesitating for a bit when the Bidoof gave a growl attack. "The..that" Trey finished lamely "right use that" Vita smiled back at her trainer, feeling pride flood her when the boy smiled at her. As long as she could keep him smiling...as long as he was okay she would fight for him.

With the bidoof fainted, Trey considered what to do. He felt bad to have had to hurt the creature. On the heels of that, his father had always said having multiple pokemon was a good thing. He winced internally as he thought about what the man would say if he knew what his current party was like. He also remembered his siblings and other trainers at the battle tent saying Bidoof was a useless pokemon, that it was good for nothing. Before he knew what he was doing, Trey took out a pokeball and threw it. Vita looked back at her trainer questioningly but didn't seem to mind the decicion. "We need more teammates" he said by way of explaining as he walked to the pokeball once it stopped shaking "and we did sort of knock it out."

Picking up the pokeball, Trey smiled to himself. This wasn't his first pokemon, that honor belonged to Chance but it was the first pokemon he had caught in this region. He had frozen up in battle but Vita...Vita had been amazing. She really had made the difference. "You were so great" he told the little grass type picking it up and hugging it close. Suddenly one of his pokeball started shaking. Trey took it out only to see Chance come out of it. "Chance?" he said to the lilipup The puppy pokemon barked once and started running "no not again" he said trying to catch it.

Trey ran after Chance worried that he would have a similar situation to the one in the dream world. Why can't he behavehe thought, and then remembering Ivy's words, why can't I be the kind of trainer that he listens to. The only pokemon that seemed to consistently listen to him was Vita, and Trey was pretty sure she chose to do that-and pretty sure he didn't know why she chose to do it. As if sensing his thoughts, Vita decided to take matters into her own hands and jumped off her trainer's shoulder. "Vita!" The little leaf pokemon grabbed Chance in her vines, essentially lifting him off the ground in a makeshift harness. Chance whined and tried to wriggle but Vita didn't give. Vi! You can't be doing this the pokemon said though she knew Trey couldn't understand her. It was Chance she was talking to anyways. "Chance you can't just-" Trey started unknowingly echoing the words of his starter he stopped however when Chance looked at him. The puppy pokemon had...to no one's surprise, puppy eyes and Trey found himself losing against them. He really was just a puppy wasn't he. Younger than Vita probably. "Just....just please stop running off like that" he said without much conviction ( or belief he'd be listened to for that matter) Chance squirmed a bit more before licking at his trainer's hand. "No...you're staying there" Trey said laughing a bit. With that he turned and started walking back to Terrence, Vita following him with Chance held aloft by her vines.

Trey found himself stopping by the pokemon center before going back to Terrence. He wanted to heal up his new pokemon, so he could show him to the other boy. It was...it was new, having someone to tell what had happened in his day to. So far he had traveled alone. Sure he talked to Vita but...well she was mostly there when things happened. Thinking of Terrence brought back his worry, he had looked tired and... something else but 'tired' was the word that came to mind. He reached into his bag. He had...some money. It was supposed to last him for this town but... Wait how was he gonna pickpocket and dine and dash without Terrence there oh no Reigniting in the panic, Trey made a decision and headed for the vending machine.

After bidoof was healed Trey instantly let it out. Kneeling down he reached out a hand, not yet touhcing the pokemon but smiling when it didn't seem to spook. "How bout you come with us?" he said. The bidoof made a sound of affirmation and feeling emboldened Trey actually did pet it. "Come on, I want you to meet someone" the boy said leaving teh center with the bidoof and Vita ( still carrying Chance in her vines) trotting up behind him. The moment he stepped out of the center however, a shadow swiped down at Vita, knocking her and Chance backwards. "Vita!" Trey had just enough of a fast reflex to scoop up Chance before the puppy could run off again. The rest of his attention was fixed on his starter. "Vita..." he took a breath trying not to panic at the fact that Vita had taken a hit "use...use tackle" he said finally. Vita nooded and did as told, tackling the other pokemon with as much strenght as she had. "A..are you okay?" he asked Vita once the wild pokemon had been taken care of. Vita nodded giving a 'Vi' tho Trey decided he'd still give her a potion when they got back. "Okay let's....let's go to Terrence" 'Vi' the green pokemon agreed.
He found Terrence in the same place he had left him, Lyra a curled-up ball of red next to him. "H-hey" he said "I uh..I trained and uh...I caught someone?" at his nudge, Benji peeked out from behind his legs. "His name's Benji" he said smiling down at the Bidoof "and oh yeah you..you remember Chance" he said looking down at the squirming pokemon still in his arms. Chance yipped at Terrence, apparently oblivious to the fact that the last time he met the boy he had almost caused them to get trampled. Trey put him down after the puppy pokemon squirmed a bit more and Chance inmeditatly ran at Lyra, tackling her and effectively engaging her in a game of chase and tag. At least he wasn't running off Trey figured. "I uh...I got you something" Trey said looking down but presenting a bag with the pokemon center on it. In it, Terrence would find three different types of cold teas, the kind that came in cans like sodas. "It's just I figured you could use it because like we've been walking a lot" Trey said still staring just at the bag. It had felt like a good idea at the time ( and still did because...well Terrence was his friend and Trey wanted to help if he could in any way he might need) but he was suddenly aware Terrence could very much not like it "and it..I didn't know which flavor you like so I got you three to chose from" He hoped Terrence liked them...he hoped that they helped with...whatever might have him feeling so tired.

Terrence looked over as Trey said that he should use Vita at the gym battle. He pursed his lips before nodding "Vita would be a good choice, since they're a grass type" he confirmed. He felt a bit guilty cutting Trey off, but he really needed the boy to leave. His illness was rearing it's ugly head, and he didn't want Trey to get caught up in it. He felt his chest pang a bit in regret as Trey practically wilted as he agreed with training. He wanted to take it back, but he held his tongue. It was for the best, he didn't want Trey to worry about him all the time if he found out. He wouldn't make Trey carry that responsibility, it wasn't his to begin with. He refused to be a burden, that was the last thing he'd ever be.
He stubbornly reassured himself that this was the right choice, even if it did make him seem like he was giving Trey the cold shoulder. He had to hide a wince as Trey fumbled with his words before he released one of his pokemon. Lifting a bow, he watched as what seemed to be a small fox pokemon yip at it's trainer to inquire why it was sent out. If Terrence remembered correctly it seemed to be Vulpix. He watched as they interacted, and learned that the pokemon's name was Lyra. It was a cute name, and Terrence thought it suited the little fox. He was a little confused when Trey asked Lyra to stay with him, it didn't really make sense... wasn't he going out to train why would he leave one of his pokemon behind?
Before he could even get a word out, Lyra all but bolted over to him. He blinked as the furry pokemon looked up at him as if asking for his permission to get closer. He chuckled weakly, giving a small nod in approval. It didn't take long for Lyra to snuggle up to his side, and get comfortable. Odd, perhaps Lyra didn't like training? It was obvious from it's behavior that it didn't want to do anything that involved the word training. Still he couldn't blame Lyra, he didn't exactly like training or battling either. He watched as Trey left, stating that he wouldn't go far. Good, Terrence didn't want him to go too far or he wouldn't be able to help him if he really needed it. It was perfect because now he could tend to himself without raising Trey's suspicions that something was terribly wrong.
As soon as Trey was out of sight, Terrence let down his facade. He panted heavily, gaping for air as he tried desperately to reach into his bag. Sweat dripped down his neck, and breathing was getting so much harder now. His shaky hands eventually found what he was looking for, and he quickly pulled the inhaler towards his mouth. He took three deep puffs of his medication, his body shaking uncontrollably as he tried to get his attack under control. He was worried for a second there, he'd almost passed out before he could tend to himself. He gasped for a few more minutes before he started to feel relief from the medications effect. He sighed, shivering a bit as he waited out the rest of the attack. He looked down at Lyra weakly, lifting a finger up to his lips "it's a secret ok? Don't tell anyone what happened, I don't want anyone to worry... you don't want to make Trey sad do you?" he asked softly, before scratching behind Lyra's ear gently.
Thankfully his attack wasn't too severe, otherwise he'd have probably needed to go to the hospital. He blinked as he heard Ivy huff at him"this is what happens when you don't heed my warnings" she clipped unhappily. Terrence flushed a bit embarrassed "I know... I know but I couldn't let Trey find out, can't you sense he's under a lot of stress already? I can't add more onto that. I don't know what's hurting him, but he's struggling so how can I let him find out about my condition? I won't become a bigger burden then I already am Ivy" he hissed. Ivy pursed her lips, clearly not pleased by his response but held her tongue. Silence remained between the two for a long time before Ivy spoke up again"He's going to find out eventually Terrence... and when he does how do you think he's going to feel? He won't know how to help you or what illness you have. How is he going to help you when you won't be able to help yourself one day?" she questioned softly.
Terrence tensed and frowned "If I have my way it'll never come to that" he responded stubbornly. Ivy stomped her hooves angrily "you stubborn child! Can't you see this isn't something you should hide! One day you're going to get in over your head and kill yourself!" she stated angrily. Terrence snapped his head to look at her, his mouth open to argue but he coughed violently instead. He pressed a hand to his mouth, and the other hand on his chest. He gasped and coughed violently for a minute or two before it eventually died down. He looked weakly over at Ivy, and felt a pang of regret when he noticed the worry laced on her eyes "Not... not now Ivy we'll... talk about this later ok? Not now... please" he begged. Ivy looked down, before huffing "very well, but this conversation is far from over young man" she said, before moving to lay behind him.
No more words were said between the two as Terrence all but collapsed back against Ivy's side. He let out a shaky breath, as he cuddled closer to Ivy's warmth. He made sure that Lyra was comfortable at his side as well, before he felt his eyes droop downwards. Ivy nuzzled her head gently against his cheek, before he finally drifted to sleep. He didn't know how long he nodded off for, but a slight nudge from Ivy alerted him that someone was coming his way "it seems that child has returned" Ivy commented. He mumbled incoherent words as his eyelids slowly fluttered open.
He sat up a bit, his back still resting against Ivy as he looked over to see Trey walking back over to them. He tilted his head to the side as Trey stated that he got him something. Curious, he slowly took that bag he was handed and looked inside. There were three different kind of teas, and he was surprised the Trey had figured out that tea was his preference. He hummed as he took one out "thank you, you didn't have to you know. How did your training go?" he asked, smiling softly at him.
He hoped Trey wasn't suspecting him because of this. Still he was thankful, his throat did feel awfully parched. He'd have to make Trey a good dinner as repayment for the drinks. He opened the can before taking a small sip from it "No I appreciate it, I like all kinds of different teas so I'm sure I'll enjoy all these... do you want to drink one too?" he asked curiously. Thankfully he was feeling much better, so he was positive that Trey wouldn't pick up on anything.

Trey let out a breath of relief when Terrence seemed to like the tea. He didn't realize it until that moment, but he had been worried that...what? That Terrence didn't like it? That he'd be upset for some reason? Though he smiled geniinely when Terrence said he liked teas.
"Oh if...if it's okay with you" he said when Terrence offered him one of them. He went for the lychee one since the boy had a guilty pressure for sweets. Tea might help with the building headache he could feel coming come to think of it. He had been getting them on and off since leaving his father's.
He looked back up at Terrence (his eyes had been on the tea and then on the floor) when he asked how training had been. "Oh, it was good!" he said eyes lighting up "Vita was great, though she did get hurt a bit...actually I should-" he dug around in his canvas bag for one of the potions he had been given by professor Jupiter. 'Vi! vi' Vita said crossing her arms. She clearly didn't think her injuries were anything to worry about though it did flinch after saying that. Trey rolled his eyes fondly but sprayed the little pokemon nonetheless "and I caught Benji here" he said petting the little bidoof "you know a lot of people say they're not that great but I think...I think I can take a chance on him" he couldn't help but look back at Terrence after that...he wasn't used to giving out opinions and not being worried about what would happen after. It was then his eyes landed on Ivy. Trey's stance became more submissive as he remembered the legendary wasn't too fond of him. Just then Chance who had been playing with Lyra bumped into Ivy looking up with a 'pup'? and making Trey wince. Yeah that...probably didn't help. "Umm...h-hi" he said to the legendary pokemon.
Lyra for her part was staring at Terrence quizically. The little pokemon had understood that what had happened had to be kept secret from Trey but didn't really understand why ( she knew Vita wouldn't have agreed but Lyra...well Terrence had been kind to her and she could tell he liked her trainer, maybe he had a reason?)

Eudora, who wasn't a runner by any means, slowed from her sprint into a jog, and then finally a fast walk. By the time they arrived in Sandgem, both she and Henry were only panting lightly instead of outright dry heaving; an improvement from when they'd stepped outside of Lake Verity. Now, as they entered the fairly populated town (still a small town, just not as small as Twinleaf), Eudora pointed them to a small, red-roofed building. "A pokemon center," she said simply and continued her stroll there. Huffing and puffing, Henry grumbled to himself and purposefully lagged behind her: he was still upset about the whole 'capturing his rival' thing. Running like mad had helped him cool down, but with his face still stinging it was impossible to forget the slight entirely.
Walloping an unsuspecting Starly did help though.
Through the automatic door and after waiting in a short line of 2, Eudora approached the front counter with a polite smile. "Good afternoon," she greeted the nurse, a pretty young woman with bright pink hair tucked neatly underneath a medical cap. The nurse returned her greeting and raised an empty metal tray expectantly. "Right, sure!" Eudora pulled out the new pokemon's pokeball and set it down on the tray before she looked over her shoulder. "C'mon, Henry," she urged but continued when the Piplup didn't budge from his corner, "She's going to make your face stop hurting." As determined as she'd been to get here, Eudora had remembered to look back at her pokemon throughout their mad dash: she'd seen the way he'd clutched or patted his face.
That did the trick, and Henry peeled himself off the wall with the speed of a Shellos. "It's usually more helpful to have the pokemon already in their ball," the nurse suggested, gently. "Oh, uh, yeah. Sorry about that." Duh, that made sense, but Eudora did also notice the kindness of her opinion; clearly, she'd seen her fair share of 'quirky' pokemon. Eudora returned Henry before he was even halfway across the lobby—geeeeeeez, he knew how to pout—and spun around after to place his pokeball beside the first.

Eudora, figuring she'd have a few minutes to herself, hadn't even left the counter when the nurse whipped back around with the tray. "Thank you for waiting. Here are your pokemon." Eudora had to pry her tongue off the roof of her mouth and cut her look of shock with a quick smile before she dared to speak. "Thank you," she said as she hurriedly swept the two pokeballs into her arm. The copper-skinned woman inclined her head towards the name tag that hung from the right corner of the nurse's pink and white uniform. "Nurse... Joy."
Eudora hung around just long enough to catch Nurse Joy's bright smile and then she was speeding out of the Center with her mouth twisted up. "She probably thinks you're an idiot," one thought crooned.
"Phuuuuhhh," she exhaled as she stepped back outside, swinging her arms back and forth to release the nervous energy suddenly coursing through her. In each hand she held a pokeball—because who used their pockets?—and actively resisted the urge to begin tossing both into the air. Henry probably wouldn't appreciate it if she dropped his ball and he came bursting out. The same went for her new pokemon, probably.
Absently, Eudora rubbed her thumb over the pokeball she was pretty sure wasn't Henry's. Two whole pokemon now, and this one she'd actually caught! Momma was gonna be proud when she told her. "Oh? This?" she voiced aloud, practicing her speech already. "This is... uh, Bob." Oof, that wasn't gonna stick. "I caught him by the lake, all by myself. With Henry's help of course. Hm? Henry? Of course you can see him too!" Eudora placed a hand to her puffed out chest and gave an exaggerated, playful laugh. "So, in summary: I'm killing--"
"Excuse me?"
She spun around, pokeball-clasped-hand thrown out to protect herself from the... bewildered, and slightly sweaty grocery store employee? Eudora pursed her lips in confusion but kept her 'weapon' brandished. The young man, around her age, cleared his throat and dabbed at the sweat rolling down his temple. "So-sorry." He sucked in a breath. "Are-are you Eudora Jones?"

It proooobably wasn't a good idea to confirm her identity without first confirming his, that's how you people were assassinated, after all. Eudora eyed the name tag dangling from the cashier's dark blue apron, and then squinted when his heaving chest blurred the letters. Johnn– Johnny? No, Johnnie–with an ie. Johnnie—with an ie—was a white guy in his late teens, whose wispy brown baby hairs stuck to his forehead while the rest of his hair defied gravity in a style that reminded Eudora of asparagus. He didn't look like someone who'd been sent to kill her; but then again, the best never did. With her lips gently pursed, Eudora decided to wait and answer him until after Johnnie had caught his breath. And, from the way he was greedily sucking in air, she was sure he was grateful.
While he did that, she flexed her fingers against Henry's pokeball, and was then startled when it cracked open and the proud Piplup popped out. Eudora gave him an easy smile and a half-wave before she lifted her dark eyes back to Johnnie; and if she just so happened to ignore his death glare—and had, maybe, an idea of why he was glaring—in the process, it was pure coincidence.
He'd stopped gasping at this point anyway. Johnnie nodded his head and then cleared his throat, he was thankful but still needed an answer. Eudora nodded back at him. If he was an assassin, he wasn't the super athletic type and she felt a bit more confident with Henry now out. "Uh, yeah. That's me. Can I...I mean, is there something you need?"
Johnnie breathed a sigh of relief before reaching for something behind his back — "It's a gun; you're gonna die" — and held out a clumpy, disfigured parcel wrapped in an ugly neon blue with iridescent orange polka dots paper. Eudora's face fell. "This lady, uh, this tall lady, with a—uhm—afro? came in earlier and said we had to deliver this package to you." Already, Eudora was nodding her head solemnly, understandingly, as a face appeared in her mind. "She made it very clear that this needed to be hand-delivered and that you'd probably come by here today. So, ah, here you are, Miss Eudora!"
The young woman gave a gentle smile as she accepted her mail with her right hand, and used the left to push her glasses back up her nose. "Thank you, Johnnie. I'll let her know I got it," Eudora assured, and bit back a smile when the teen released a much bigger sigh.
"Er, have a great afternoon!" she called to him after. Johnnie stopped just long enough to raise a hand in farewell before continuing his trudge back to his place of employment.

Once Johnnie was gone, Eudora turned her attention to her clumpy package with pursed lips. "Let's not stand in the middle of the street," she said, gesturing for Henry to follow her. She hadn't noticed it on her way into the town, but the air here had a salty scent that reminded her of home. "Wanna hit up the beach for a bit?" Eudora asked. Sure, they had just left the lake. But this was just a pitstop— and the ocean was ten times better than the lake.
Guided by Sandgem's signs, Henry was the first to stumble onto the sand, with Eudora a few steps behind. While he made a beeline for the waves, she lingered behind to slip out her socks and sneakers, one foot at a time: hobbling and hopping across the sand, the young woman hooked her thumb into the back of her sock and wiggled out of it and her shoe. Once she was barefoot, Eudora made her way down the shoreline. She didn't go far and plopped herself down with a hearty sigh. "Alright, Ragine." Eudora plucked at the corners of the wrapping paper, still in awe over how ugly it was and why it reminded her of the circus. "Let's see what you sent me."
Three cans of lemonade, a few bags of chips, a pokeball, and a rainbow crystal now sat at her feet. Eudora turned her last gift over in her hand, letting the light reflect off the crystal and, at one point, right into her eye. "Tch." She winced and smacked her lips as she brought the gem down but kept her grip on it; it was pretty. "Piplup?" Dripping seawater, Henry shuffled up to his trainer. "How was your swim?" Henry shook himself in response, sending salty water droplets everywhere and fluffing out his feathers. Eudora took that as a "yes", and that he was still mad at her for capturing the pokemon from before.
Who knew something this small could hold a grudge this big?
"Here." She held her hand to him, the crystal sparkling between her fingers. "Hold this for me." Eudora waited patiently for the Piplup's curiosity to win over his pride before she passed it to him. With her other hand, she grabbed the pokeball Ragine had included. Now seemed a good time to check it out; the food and drink would come after. Suddenly antsy, the young woman rolled the capsule over her palm and then the back of her hand. She was getting a lot of new pokemon all at once, and while she wasn't scared or overwhelmed, it was a lot to process.
"PIP-LUP!" Henry's shocked cry pulled Eudora from her trance, and she blinked, bewildered, before shrinking back and covering her eyes as a rainbow light enveloped them.

White spots obscured Eudora's vision as she flailed blindly—and probably, stupidly—in the sand. Without being able to see, she could only listen to Henry's panicked shouts and imagine what was happening. "Henry?" Some unknown enemy was attacking them. "Henry?!" He was being kidnapped. "HENRY?!"She was being kidnapped. Eudora's frightened calls reached a fevered pitch seconds before she tripped over her feet and fell, face-first, into the sand.
She jumped to her feet, hacking and spitting, and pulled herself into the fighting position she vaguely remembered from the one defense class she and her mother had taken the summer before. "LEAVE US ALONE!" Eudora screamed just as the last white spot faded. She whipped her head about with her right fist raised and ready to delve out punishment but found no one else around, and her once-heroic cry echoed across the empty beach. "...What?" Eudora looked to Henry, did a double-take, and then ducked her head down as her cheeks grew warm. "...Let's move down a little," the young woman muttered, her feet already carrying her away. There wasn't anyone else around, but there were still a few houses close by, and she refused to stick around in case someone poked their head out to check on the loon, yelling at nothing.
Once they were far away, Eudora turned her full and undivided attention to her partner. "What happened?" she asked, eyeing Henry's new colors. The trainer nodded her head slowly, understandingly, as Henry explained himself. "Mm mm." She bobbed her head again, cupping her chin as she did. While she did this, Eudora ran the last few minutes back in her head: Henry'd still had his regular colors when he came back from his swim, then she'd given him that rainbow shard to hold— her eyes widened in realization. "The crystal!"
Henry stopped mid-rant and nodded. Yes, the crystal. Wasn't it obvious?
"Maybe it's not permanent?" Eudora ventured. "I'll have to call Ragine and ask her. But, for now, let's think of this as a good thing!" Henry squinted, skeptical. "The colors look good on you. And, now we match! A Black woman with a black — and white — pokemon!" She flashed a smile and kept it until it outshined her partner's doubt. He crossed his flippers over his chest and nodded reluctantly, eyes downcast to look at his feet, which had even changed. Eudora patted his head comfortingly.
