    chapter 1:

I woke up and looked at my bedside table. My clock read 4:45. I sighed.

Might as well get up if I couldn’t sleep. I got out of my bed and jumped out of my bedroom window. Once I was out, I climbed up the tiles to the top of the roof.

It might take some time to get used to my new neighborhood but I know everything will be much worse since I’m a freshman at a different school. At least at my old home, I had friends and if I stayed, I would have some friends in high school too. But my mother insisted to go and live with my older siblings while they attended college.

I lied down on my back and closed my eyes. I wish we didn’t move here. I miss my old home.

I turned to my side and saw that the neighbor’s light was already on. Their front door opened and a girl with blonde hair stepped out with a huge smile on her face. Behind her was a shirtless boy.

I looked away immediately. Guess what they were doing.

High school is going to be weird I guess. Besides the schoolwork, I’ll be going through so much peer pressure. Parties, sex, and possibly drugs. But my sister, Rachel, and my brother, Don, said that high school was awesome. Rachel and Don are fraternal twins and they were both in the popular clique. But that is why high school was so easy; it was because of their popularity.

And if you are wondering why I am so worried about high school even though my older siblings were the rulers, it is because I am the black sheep of my family.

I turned to my side again and saw that the blonde girl was gone and the boy was still standing outside. I froze.

He was staring at me. I pretty sure he is. His eyes led to me.

He smirked at me and it was only instinct to turn away from embarrassment but I didn’t. I stood up, folded my arms, and glared at him. And to my satisfaction, he smiled at me and held up his hands in surrender. I smiled and shook my head. I mouthed the word ‘pervert’ and went back into my room.

I guess my neighbor gets attention easily; he even got mine. I looked at my clock once again and it read 5:30.

I should go back to bed. I have nothing else better to do.

    -10:30 am-

I yawned as I walked down the stairs and stretched my muscles causing me to yawn again. “Good morning bed head.” Don and Rachel said in unison. Don was watching TV while Rachel cooked up some pancakes.

“Well whatever. I just woke up at 4 something then went back to sleep.”

“Hope that you were sleeping alone.” Don teased. But I wasn’t sure if he was teasing me cause he sounded serious at the same time.

“No. I just went to the roof and watched the sky.”

“Well, good. Okay, get over here you two and eat.” My sister placed a stack of pancakes on the table and Don immediately sat at the table. He took twelve flapjacks and smothered it with maple syrup. I sighed and slowly walked to the table half asleep. I took a seat across from Don and took two pancakes to my plate. I put some syrup on my fluffy pancakes and began cutting into a small triangle while Don shoved two whole pancakes at a time into his throat.

“I am amazed that you can eat like a hog every single day and stay in such shape.” Rachel shook her head.

“Well thank you for the compliment!” Don said happily.

“That’s not a compliment you idiot.” I said as I chewed my breakfast.

“Well if you must know, I exercise. It’s a pretty simple answer.”

“I wouldn’t think you would have a simple answer for your pig lifestyle.” I remarked.

Don didn’t hear me over his loud and obnoxious chewing. I finished my plate and put it in the dishwasher. I headed back upstairs but the phone rang.

    I froze.

I could hear my siblings smirk behind me. “I’ll get it!” Rachel said cheerily.

“I’ll just be in my room!” I yelled back.

“Oh no you don’t!” Don yelled. I screamed and ran up the stairs but Don grabbed my wrist and pulled me into his arms. He carried me bridal style and dragged me back down to the living room. “Mom would be devastated to not know what’s going on with you. Go and talk to her.” Don said evilly.

“But you know how mom gets!” I whined. “You know if she never knew she would miss me this much then she shouldn’t have sent me off with you guys! No! I don’t want to talk~!”

Rachel put the phone to my ear and I groaned. “Hello mother.” I said bitterly.

“Hello dear! How is everything? Are they treating you well? Oh! I miss you so much!” I tuned out pretty much everything after that. I just threw out some ‘yups’ and ‘yeahs’ into the conversation while mom kept blabbering.

After 30 long minutes, my mother said goodbye and was left with my brother and sister laughing at me. “I feel so sorry for you! Mom drowns you in her annoying words and such.” Rachel laughed as she hugged me in mockery.

“So what did she lecture you about this time?” Don asked.

“Well, since I am starting high school soon, she warned me about some stuff I might get pressured into doing.” I nonchalantly hoping they wouldn’t ask any further questions.

“And what are they?” Don asked eagerly.

“Well . . .sex.” I prepared myself from being bombarded with laughs.

They burst into tears as they laughed at me. “What did she say?” Rachel asked.

“Like to be safe and losing your virginity before marriage is sluttish. And that guys are horn dogs.”

    “We are not!” Don defended.

Rachel rolled her eyes. “Well, not matter how weird the subject is, that was important to talk about. Seriously Raine, be careful at high school. Guys will do anything to have that. Trust me, I know.”

“Because you were literally selling yourself.” Don muttered.

    “That auction was for charity!”

“Yeah, I bet those football players loved being entertained by you washing their cars. I also noticed that you were very enthusiastic about it too.”

    Rachel rolled her eyes. “Whatever.”

“And if any guy bothers you, just call your big bro over here.” I smiled at him. “Well I don’t think I have to worry about boys. I mean Raine, you’re not a boy magnet.”

I growled and punched him in the gut. “Ha! That didn’t hurt. My abs are steal.”

I smirked. “Oh, really? Lets check your pressure points.”

“Huh?” I quickly hit one of his pressure points on his neck and he fell to the ground fast asleep.

“Raine! I hope you didn’t kill him. Gosh, I can’t believe you even know this stuff. You are absolutely weird.”

“He deserves it. And besides, weird is good.” I remarked. I went into the bathroom and took my black bathrobe in with me. I was about to take my robe off when I noticed a person across from me. My neighbor was watching me from behind his bedroom window.

“Oh my God.” I quickly closed the curtains but showed him the finger first. I turned on the shower and let the hot water run. I checked the curtain again and saw that he was still staring at me but he had a sketchpad in his hand.

It had something written on it. ‘Wanna give me a show little miss?’

I growled and showed him both fingers and closed the curtains.

    That perv!

High school guys seem like jerks! Well, the guys at my old middle school were jerks too but less perverted.

I took off my robe and hopped into the shower. The scent of lavender filled the room and the steam fogged the glass and mirror. After 30 minutes, I stepped out and dried myself off. I walked out of the bathroom and walk into my room to find a list and a handbook.

    “What’s this?”

I picked up the list and read that it had my school supplies that I need for school and the handbook was for school too.

Since I was extremely bored, I decided to actually read the handbook. But I won’t bore you with the details. I’m not that cruel.

I changed into some red skinny jeans and a white toki doki shirt that had a print of the skeletal couple on it.

I went back downstairs and sat on the couch. “Are you going somewhere?” Don asked.

“If I was going somewhere than I wouldn’t be sitting on this couch dummy!”

“Well, I’m just saying. You’re dressed and all.”

“Well where would I go? I have no friends and I don’t know where the mall is.”

“If you want to make friends, then go meet our next door neighbor. They have a son. I hear he’s popular at your school.”

“Oh joy! I bet he would feel so much better if he hangs out with a lame freshman. Besides, he seems like a total jerk for staring at me while I was about to shower.” I grumbled.

“WHAT?! No way. This guy is dead! That little perv!” Don stood up looking frantic. “Okay, I’m going to find my drill and go over to that house and screw that guys-”

“No, its okay Don. I can handle myself.” I looked around the house. “But today seems like its gonna be really boring. Can you give me some cash and drive me to the mall? Might as well get to know this town.”

“Uh, sure. Hold on. I’ll get the car keys.”

“Okay, I’ll just get my school supply list.”

My brother stopped and began to laugh. “You are such a loser. Its still summer, you’re bored to death, and you want to spend your day at the mall shopping for school supplies?”

I scowled at him. “You know, I can make you die hitting a certain pressure point on your neck.”

His eyes became big and gave him an evil smile. “Right. Okay.” He said uneasily.

He shoved past me as he got the car keys and muttered, “Freak.”

I wanted to hit him but I decided not to. I have tortured my brother enough for one day.

    . . .

Don dropped me off at the mall and said that he’ll pick me up at 6.

I walked in and sat down on one of the benches to check my phone.

I got one message from Marcel. She was one of my friends back at my old home.

‘Hey! I am so sorry I didn’t call you earlier! My mom has been drowning me in work. She’s making me review some subjects for school. How lame right? And I’ve been busy with guitar lessons too. Are you still playing piano? By the way, I miss you! /: D!’

I smiled. At least I’m missed.

    I put my phone away.

I stood up but something hard knocked me back down into my wooden seat. “Ow.” I rubbed my head and looked up.

“I’m sorry. My rock hard abs are very dangerous.”

    “Uh, you.” I said venomously.

It was my neighbor who I bumped into.

    “Yes. Its me.”

“What do you want? Ya little perv.”

“Me? A perv?” he asked in disbelief. “You’re the one who was practically taking your clothes off.”

“I was in the shower and you were watching from your window!!!” I yelled.

That brought a ton of attention. I glared at all the people who stared. They immediately looked away. “Look, just leave me alone. Go find another girl to bang or something.”

“Who said I was ever gonna bang you? I was just flirting with you out of pity.”

“Well don’t. You know, I can kill you if I wanted. So my advice to you, stay out of my life.” I shoved past him.

I heard him smirk from behind me.

I groaned and tried to ignore him as I walked away.

“Hey, what’s your name?” he called out from behind me.

    I stopped. “What’s yours?”

    “Collin Grey. Now you?”

    “No way stud.”

“Hm, nice.” He chuckled. I rolled my eyes and continued to walk away . . .
