• She said,
    “Wing-men are for cowards
    Love notes are cliché “

So I went on out to show her,
My feelings in a whole new way.

I gave her five red roses,
My full attention and a pen,

My hints were way to subtle,
    But I’d always try again.

Was that a delighted laugh I heard,
    Show me an encouraging grin.

It gave me hope, deep in my throat,
I thought I might just win.

“But love,” she said, “is just too silly in
    Frivolous times like these,

    All anyone ever thinks about
Is of stupid birds and the bees.”

    Looking back, I think about
    Why’d we both pretend
But it’s too late these high school years
We knew would one day end.
